Seventh Year. November 17th. Dawn. Slytherin Seventh Year Dorms
It couldn't be true. It absolutely wasn't possible.
After all, Scorpius had been chasing after Chandra Levy and Rose had just ended her tryst with Wood.
Sure, Scorpius had done something unspeakable to Wood at some point. That black eye just wasn't going away. The hospital wing had been stumped.
Still… he had his suspicions. If they were into eachother, he would have noticed, right? He was their best friend. They were together all the time. He should have noticed.
Albus laid in his four poster bed in the Seventh year Slytherin dorms. He found himself surprised that he was conscious that early. No…he had a mystery to solve. Normally, when he had a conundrum, he would find some way to wake Scorpius up as well, they would figure it out together. But…he couldn't involve Scorpius in this one.
Albus sighed and rubbed his eyes. How long did a silencing charm last? He grabbed his wand and re-up'd the spell. He needed to work this out and Merlin knows what kind of exasperated sounds he would make in the process.
What was the evidence? He needed to look at the facts :
They fought all the time. Score one to Team Hate.
They were also together a lot. Score one for Team Fancy.
They were always competing. Another point to hate.
They share a lot of things…notes, food…she took that cookie right off his plate and he never said a word. Scorpius never shared food…one point to fancy.
Rose lit him on fire that one time…that seems pretty solidly in the hate column.
Scorpius got pretty freaked out when he had told Rose that Scopius had wanked it…but that would probably make any bloke go crazy…
He bullied her hard about those OWLs, she called him a Deatheater…definitely hate…
The scorecard seemed to support hate over fancy.
Think man! Think! Albus squeezed his eyes shut.
They did fight a lot. Like A LOT. They HAVE to hate eachother…
And then something Albus had said to Scorpius came stampeding back into his memory, "Well, you know how, when you like a girl, you mess with her? Annoy her when she's around. Take her stuff…but you're really only doing it because you want her to pay attention to you? I swear, sometimes you would get so close to Rose's face that I swore you were trying to get her to snog you."
"OH. MY. GOD." Albus suddenly yelped. "HE WAS TRYING TO GET HER TO SNOG HIM!"
Albus suddenly felt horrendous. It was SO OBVIOUS. It was so obvious that he had noticed it before, HAD SAID SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE, and apparently just blew it off.
Albus sat back against his headboard and dragged his hands down his face. "BLOODY HELL!" He yelled before smacking his palm against his forehead.
That little twat has fancied her for ages. He's been finding ways to get her to pay attention to him for YEARS. Albus shook his head in disbelief of his own stupidity. They had been fighting for so long that Albus completely missed the fact that the fighting had changed as the years went by.
It wasn't the stupid little kid squabbling of their youth. It was designed. Designed to test the boundaries of their relationship.
Was Scorpius that brilliant…or that oblivious?
Albus' memory snapped back to about a year ago, the dinner they had with Christiana Thomas…the conversation where Albus first realized he was in love with her…
Dammit Albus, you can think about the Christiana Thomas situation later! This isnt your story! He thought as he switched his mind to what she had been saying.
She had told him…all of them, that Scorpius was in love. In love with a girl whom he saw everyday, spoke to every day…Damn it, Christiana had said it was SO OBVIOUS.
Albus wanted to punch himself in the face. What would he do now? What COULD he do? Was he expected to fight Scorpius? Were they supposed to be enemies now that he was trying to doink his cousin?
Honestly, was he trying to doink his cousin though? Did Scorpius even know he was into Rose? He certainly didn't behave like he usually did with the birds he was trying to seduce. There was no sweet talk, no compliments….he had literally called her a 'goblin hag' maybe a week ago….
But, maybe that was the kicker. Maybe that's what proved that he did fancy her. He treated her differently. She was special.
What to do, what to do. Albus had to be sure. He didn't want to make the mistake of accusing them of fancying eachother and then be wrong. Gods, that would make everything so weird between the three of them. He needed to investigate the situation.
Dammit Albus, get your shit together, you goblin hag!
He crossed his arms and took a deep breath. He was going to get to the bottom of this.
