Chapter 17
Susan leaned back from the kiss and did her best not to look like a blushing mess. A part of what had happened just felt right and she knew that but she was still getting used to the notion that she was in love.
She had plenty of boys back in England tell her she was pretty but that was all any of them saw, Simon was different. He knew pretty, and he knew that there were more important things in life. Of course that fact that he also said that she was beautiful didn't hurt.
She leaned a little more into his arm and closed her eyes to relax. She understood why Simon couldn't say the words yet. The last time he had fallen in love with someone it ended with Narnia suffering under the reign of the White Witch.
But she also knew that SImon was recovering. She could see it in the way his eyes stared at the world. He used to look like he was still hating himself for what he had done. But in the last few days his eyes had a new kind of light to them. It was the light she could only assume went out in Texas, that he spent years traveling the world trying to re-light.
And now after over a hundred years he had succeeded. Narnia was made safer by his presence, and her life was made complete. She felt Simon's head snap around to look at the door and she lifted her own head to do likewise.
She suspected that there was going to be several old habits for Simon's life that would never change. His distrust of any door he couldn't see was most likely one of them.
When she looked she saw an empty door but she heard the sound of light walking. That notion of being spied on during an intimate moment annoyed Susan who promptly got up went over to the door and after slowly peeking out into the hall closed the door all the way. "I think Lucy was spying on us?"
Her words were both a statement and a question. She wasn't sure if it was a bad thing that Lucy was watching them but she had a bad feeling that it may cause problems. "Let's hope that she keeps tight lips when she's talking to your brother, I don't think he likes me very much." Simon added
He was right. Peter had lost quite a bit of trust in the blacksmith when he learned of Simon's past. Returning to her spot from before Susan looked back out over the sunset Susan said. " well he is just going to have to get used to it."
She could feel Simon's eyes looking down at her with pride, and she liked the way that felt. She wondered what parts of her would Simon change. She knew that it was going to happen. Just as she had helped Simon to let people into his life (something she could tell he was terrified of by the way he pretended to flirt with her when they met).
Pushing such thoughts aside for the time being Susan snuggled in a little closer to Simon who in turn tightened his arm around her shoulders. They had sat like that until the sun had finally dropped below the horizon. Susan wanted to stay here until the end of time but she needed to go. They needed to find a way to get Peter to allow them to get married before they could start spending their nights together. Otherwise the gossip mongers of Cair Paravel would take notice and they would be the talk of the town.
Looking back at Simon who seemed to have fallen asleep Susan made a decision. The gossip mongers were of no importance to her. Their stories and elaborate rumors were just that, and as such they had no meaning to her.
She was happy and based on the smile that was spreading over Simon's face so was he. She got comfy and went to settle her mind. Drawing her legs up under her she sat down on the couch resting her head on Simon's chest. She allowed the rhythmic beating of his heart to ease her into sleep.
It was official, she was in love with Simon Moses Novac. And the sooner she conceived Peter that they should get married the better.
Hey everyone this is the writer of Out Of Nowhere. I saw some of the reviews that seemed worried about the story so I figured I would get a short little chapter out. It's not much but it's the best I can do in an hour. I don't like leaving things unfinished. My laptop was giving me trouble for a few weeks but I should be back to my once a month schedule soon.
