Chapter 20: A New Rivalry

"Do you believe it was a good idea, letting the boy give that crystal to the former Chinese Dragon?"

Clockwork had observed the entire events that took place since Danny came to his tower. And, once the groups returned him, the Observants came to grill him on what he did.

"Yes, yes I do. The American Dragon lives, after all." He answered

"Even so… you don't plan to get the crystal back, do you?" The second Observant asked.

"Those things are dangerous… but I'm sure the former Chinese Dragon will keep it safe." Clockwork said. "Now… I have something to take care of…"

"Are you positive this is a good idea?" The first Observant asked.

"Indeed…"

"Why let this happen?" The second asked.

"Let's just say… I am curious about how things turn out… going a bit off the rails." Clockwork says with an odd smile.

The Observants did not look please.

''I don't believe that is wise..." One of the Observants said

"This is a dangerous game, Clockwork." The lead Observant said.

"Maybe so… but I know all the ways this plays out." Clockwork said.

At Bueno Nacho

It was the day after the events that happened.

Kim and Ron were in the middle of eating an after mission meal and talking about what happened.

"I still can't believe it. A dragon and a superhero..." Ron said.

A cute one too… Kim couldn't help but think.

As Ron ate, he was curious about something.

"So… you're not afraid ghost hunters are gonna ask how you know him or where he is?" Ron asked as he sniffed the Naco in his hands.

"It was one picture, Ron." Kim said. "It's like asking if I know where Superman is just because I got a selfie with him."

Ron shrugged and took a bite out of his Naco and chewed.

"I guess so…"

That's when the Kimmunicator went off and Kim answered it.

"Go Wade."

"Uh… Kim? You got a weird message on the site." Wade said.

Kim rose one eyebrow.

"What do you mean? Is it someone asking for help?"

"Not… really…" Wade said, scratching the back of his head. "It almost looks like… a warning."

''A warning?!" Kim and Ron said.

"By who? And about what?" Ron asked.

"That's just it… I can't find an email this was sent from, not even a VPN." Wade said. "And all it is is just a few words."

Kim then got serious as she turned to the chubby genius

"Read it to me." Kim asked.

"It says… 'Soon, it's your turn'…" Wade said.

Kim blinked before looking confused.

"What?" She asked.

It was Sunday since that day and Danny was getting ready to pay someone a visit.

A new friend of his.

"You sure about this, Danny?" Sam asked.

"Yeah…" Danny said. "Plus, it might be fun." Danny says.

"I guess it's like those anime rivalries, now you two have found someone that tests your limits and you want to keep doing it." Jazz asked.

"Yeah… I guess so." Danny said with a small laugh.

"So, you really fought Jake at the museum?" Jazz asked as they walked through to the lab, their parents not home.

"Yeah," Danny said before turning to Tucker. "You scrubbed the footage, right?"

"Don't worry." Tucker said, already taking care of it, removing the footage from the museum and replacing the one online with a tap dancing monkey wearing a top hat. "I got it covered."

"So, how did you win?" Sam asked.

"Um…well..." Danny said, not knowing what to say without letting out that he sort of killed Jake. "Long story short, I overshadowed him and blasted him with a powerful Ghost Ray."

"Well, I'm not surprised that you won," Jazz commented.

"What do you mean?" Danny asked.

"Well, I talked to Jake's friends and family, so I compared his feats with yours." Jazz replied.

"I'm still surprised you think Jake could have won." Sam questioned.

"I mean… Jake is technically more skilled than me thanks to his grandfather's martial arts training and being a dragon means he can hit me even while I was intangible… but still, my powers definitely blew him out of the water." Danny said.

"Well… even though he's got the training, you likely have the better experience… especially since you've fought dragons before." Jazz said.

"Has Jake ever fought ghosts before?" Sam asked.

"A bunch of Civil War jerks… but they didn't exactly have my long list of powers. Heck, even the Box Ghost has more to offer than them." Danny said.

''For real?" Sam asked.

Danny nodded.

He then turned on the portal before turning to his friends.

"Well… I'll see you guys later." Danny said as he waved to them and entered the Ghost Portal.

''There he goes...off to New York… again." Jazz said.

"Hmpt..."

The two girls heard this and saw Tucker sulking.

They understood what it was about.

"Are you still bitter about the phone number?" Sam asked.

"Ya got that right!" Tucker said in indignation. "I don't see what Trixie can't see in me!"

Sam and Jazz shared an annoyed expression.

"I can think of a few things she CAN see…" Jazz whispered with Sam nodding.

New York City.

Jake was getting his skateboard as he walked to the door.

"I'll be back later!" Jake said.

"Have fun, honey," Susan exclaimed.

"Say Danny I said 'hi!'," Haley exclaimed.

They heard the door closed before going back to what they were doing, with Susan in the kitchen with Haley helping as Jonathan read the newspaper.

"I still can't believe Danny Phantom and Kim Possible were in town..." Jonathan said as he looked at the news. "I could have gotten an autograph from Kim Possible!"

Haley pouted as she heard the famous teen hero's name.

Sure, she's cool, and gorgeous, and famous, and heroic...Okay, I can understand why Danny would have a crush on her. Haley thought.

"So, can you tell me about this Danny?" Susan asked.

"Oh, he's so cool!" Haley gushed, blushing as she remembered everything Danny did in front of her. Ever since then, she did some research on Danny's feats, and that just made him cooler in her eyes. "He's cute, strong, heroic, and he saved me a lot!"

"He sounds like a swell boy..." Jonathan said as Haley sighed dreamily. "What kind of powers did he have?"

"Well, he can turn invisible, phase through solid objects, possess people, fire Ghost Rays and Shields, duplicate... and can make ice," Haley listed off his skills. "I also heard that he has some kind of Ghostly Wail."

"Woowee, he sounds like a dozy!" Jonathan said. "Can Dragons do all that?"

"I don't think so, at least not all of them" Susan said, shaking her head. "I can see how he was able to beat Jake. With that assortment of skills, it'll be hard to counter."

"Yeah, he's so cool..." Haley sighed.

Both her parents were not as clueless as Danny, and sighed at this.

Poor girl… Susan said.

Jake was rolling towards the train station to meet Danny, having stopped to grab a pizza. Along the way, he saw Trixie and Spud, who decided to roll with him, talking about his first fight with Danny. Once they arrived, Lao Shi and Fu were there to see him off.

"So, yeah, even though you can counter his Ghost Energy, Intangibility, Ice Powers and Duplication with you Fire and Chi, you can't really handle his Invisibility, Ghostly Wail and Overshadow." Spud said.

"Well… I'll give him this, he's faster than me." Jake said. "He did outfly a space shuttle for a bit."

"But ya hit 'em with your dragon breath." Trixie pointed out.

"Yeah… you have 30 tons of TNT in that fire." Spud pointed out.

"Yeah… but when I was in the Ghost Zone, I fought a ghost who used a medallion to turn into a dragon." Jake said.

"The Amulet of Aragon?" Lao Shi asked. "It still exists?"

"Yeah… he's got a sister who apparently did this thing where shooting fire in the sky made the clouds go away above her castle." Jake said.

"How big was the castle?" Spud asked.

"I never saw it. But from what Danny says, it sounds like it was big, had a moat and everything."

"Weird they'd have a moat when half the population can fly…" Fu said.

"Did the cloud black out the sky?" Spud asked.

"Yeah." Jake said. "That's what Danny told me.

"Well… assuming it's around 315 meters at least to darken the skies and cover the castle, her breath would have needed 7.5 kilotons of TNT to clear the skies…" Spud said. "So, if Danny's used to getting hit by dragon fire like that, you literally don't have the firepower to take him down."

Everyone stared at Spud for saying something that sounded so intelligent.

"I sometimes forget this boy is smart..." Trixie said.

"So, did Tucker call you yet?" Spud asked.

"Oh, trust me, I'm never gonna hear from him again..." Trixie said with a smirk.

"O… kay… So… I better get going." Jake said as he transformed, taking the pizza with him. "See you guys." Jake said before taking off in his train.

As everyone waved at him, Fu spoke with Lao Shi.

"So… anything on them DB Crystals?" He asked.

"Nothing. The Dragon Council has been informed, but no information is heard yet." He said. "This concerns me…"

"Maybe we're lucky and the next one to find one is someone we know, like that kid and her alien dog?" Fu asked.

"I certainly hope so…" Lao Shi said.

It was an abandoned boxing ring in the Bronx, late in the afternoon, when two figures arrived. One by going through walls, the other via the broken skyline.

Both of them reached the bleachers observing the right and took notice of the other.

"Dragon Dork…" Danny said, sounding flat.

"Phantom Punk…" Jake said, also sounding flat.

Both of them raised their right arms and then laughed, shaking hands as they each turned human again.

"Any trouble on the way?" Danny asked.

"Those moron Huntsboys and a few trouble making goblins… nothing the American Dragon can't handle." Jake said. "You?"

"Let's see… Technus, a ghost who controls technology, a ghost eel and Vlad sicked one of his pets, a four-armed bear, after me… So… a typical day." Danny said.

Both of them laughed.

After a few minutes, both boys were almost finished with the pizza Jake brought and the sodas from Danny's bag.

They were sitting at the bleachers as they spoke.

"So… Rose is coming next week for a visit?" Danny asked.

"Yeah." Jake said.

"Does she know about me?" Danny asks.

"Not yet. If you want, you and your team can come." Jake said.

"Probably not Tucker though…" Danny said. "Not only would he try… and fail… to get Rose to look at him, he's still bitter about what Trixie wrote."

Jake laughed his head off.

"1-800-YOU-WISH… Man! I only wish I saw that!" Jake said. "

Both boys laughed.

"Man… her giving him her number… you're more likely to come across an alien."

"Seen one." Jake said, holding his hand up.

"One of those that appeared from that one summer a few years ago?" Danny asked.

"No… in Hawaii… long story." Jake said. "Let's just say some of them do come in peace."

Danny smiled.

"Cool… I'd like to meet one someday…"

"Well, you pals with the American Dragon now. I'll hook you up…" Jake said.

"Unless of course they come at the last minute like Kim did…" Danny said.

That's when Jake remembered something.'

"So… you got that picture Kim took with you?" Jake asked.

Danny held his phone out proudly, showing a certain wallpaper on it.

"This answers your question?" Danny asks. "It's also my desktop."

"Dang… and people think I was obsessed over Rose…" Jake said.

"Fu told me during the party you tried to be a monk to try and get over her." Danny said.

Jake frowned at that.

"Okay… no Sloppy Joes for him…" Jake said.

Danny chuckled, soon Jake did too.

"Well… I guess it's time. You sure about this?" Danny asked.

"Yeah! Going one-on-one with you made me realize being the American Dragon doesn't mean much against your power, durability, or ghostly abilities."

"It didn't take LONG for you to fall SHORT in our Phan-tastic battle." Danny said. "Or… should I say "Fen-tastic"?"

Jake rolled his eyes.

"And to think, Kim thinks you're funny…"

"And cool." Danny reminded him.

"And she thinks you're cute too…" Jake said.

Danny straightened himself and sat up.

"Really?" Jake only smiled, causing Danny to look suspicious. "You're lying…"

"Maybe… maybe not. Either way… we gotta toughen you up to, so that you can ask her on a date."

Danny chuckled at that before noticing Jake didn't have a joking tone.

"You're serious?"

"Well… I'd say after that night, you might have a shot after all." Jake said. "I think going a few rounds might help you get less awkward around her or other babes, help step ya game up. Like that bug chick in Paris, for example."

"Doesn't she have some cat guy for a boyfriend?" Danny asked.

"Even so… you say you weak kneed with cute girls? Let's make those knees tougher. That way, you don't trip like you did with Kim."

Danny rolled her eyes.

"That part I want to forget."

"What about getting that Diablo sauce on your hand?" Jake asked.

"That too…"

Jake laughed.

"I only wish I wasn't the one who saw all that… but at least she still wanted a picture with you." Jake said.

"Yeah… she did." Danny said as he smiled in fondness.

"I guess this means your hopeless fantasy isn't as hopeless as you thought…" Jake said.

Danny just blinked before what Jake just said registered to him.

"You really think I have a shot?" Danny asked.

Jake then stood up.

"Let's find out…" Jake said as he walked to the ring.

Danny smiled.

"Alright then…"

Both boys found themselves inside the ring, both taking their places.

"I'm Goin' Ghost!"

With two energy rings, Danny Fenton became Danny Phantom.

"Dragon Up!"

With flames, Jake Long became the American Dragon.

"You sure about this, Jake?" Danny asked.

"Like I said… we gonna toughen each other up. You, so you can live out your fanboy fantasy…" Danny blushed at that. "And I get the perfect sparring partner…"

"Okay…" Danny crossed his arms. "But just because we're not under a spell… doesn't mean I'll hold back that much."

"That's fine with me…" Jake says as he pounded a fist into his hand.

Danny smirked as his hands charged.

"Good to know." He said with a smile.

Both sets of eyes had a determined glint in them.

"Ready… Phantom Punk?" Jake asked, doing a kata.

Danny smiled and motioned for Jake to come after him.

"Ready… Dragon Dork…" Danny responded.

Both of them smiled, ready to face an opponent they've come to respect as a friend and a worthy challenge.

Danny and Jake then flew at each other and rose their arms, ready to throw a punch and have a little fun, as evident by their grins.

And with that, the story's finished.

Thanks to TheWhiteTitan and Flower Princess11 for this chapter.

I might... MIGHT... adapt Ben 10 vs Danny Phantom. Still thinking about it.

Also, if the drops weren't obvious, maybe I'll adapt Stitch and/or Ladybug if they ever appear in Death Battle.

Before you ask, I'd go with Rocket Racoon as Stitch's foe. As for Ladybug? Maybe Spider-Gwen.

Again, my pick for Kim's foe is Sam from Totally Spies. If not, maybe Batgirl.

All I know is the next combatant for Death Battle is Beerus. At the time of this writing, his foe is unrevealed.

(Also, I'm not watching Death Race because it doesn't interest me at all)

So... let's sit tight and see what comes next and maybe someday Danny will return to Death Battle.

Who? Uh... Generator Rex? I don't know...

twilightnite13: He's still bitter about it.

TheWhiteTitan: If Stitch, Ladybug or Kim get a shot, I will indeed make a sequel.

FrostHunter: Thanks.

ArkhamSpider: Thank you.

Invader Johnny: Yup, Jazz got to help someone, even an ogre, with her skills.

Guest: Well... yeah, I know that. It's a popularity thing. I MIGHT...

Guest: Yup, Vlad's going to be dealing with those witches. And yeah, boy's clueless...

pokemon fan 1991: Glad you found them funny. :) And yeah, Spud's smarter than people give him credit for...

MartizS.G: Gracias.

Leonardo: Thank you, I hope for one as well. Also... I'm sure they'd freak out.

Ultimatrix bearer: Good idea, I'll look into Dark Danny's return.

Luiz4200: Yeah... I wanted to make it a 0, but Flower Princess11 thought the joke used was funnier. Also, as said, Sam from Totally Spies.

Jay the Average Fanboy: Well... she was mentioned, but no appearance. Maybe next time. I might try that story if I decided to do non-Death Battle adaptations. Also, yes I know of that show and no, I don't think Yosuke will face Danny.

Alright folks, that's it for this story. This was fun while I did it and I only hope our ghost boy will one day return to Death Battle. Take care and be safe out there.
