Hello! ! A short chapter to keep things moving. I'm a little tempted to maybe end the story here. It isn't a totally happy ending, but I think it could work as a ending. I don't want to keep writing if it's got boring now. Hmmm will have a think. Stay safe everyone.

"Unfortunately, when they got to the hospital it was clear that there was a major situation and Karev was right to call Arizona in. There had been a gas explosion in a yoga studio with a class full of pregnant woman and Karev and the on-call peds fellow had already performed two emergency C-sections by the time Arizona had scrubbed in.

She was needed to complete tricky delivery and a complex procedure on a 27 week pregnant woman with internal bleeding to try and keep the baby cooking a little longer. There were three Ped's surgeons working flat out trying to save mothers and their unborn babies. It was one of the most traumatic emergencies they had been involved in.

It was a good 5 hours before she was able to escape the operating room, and after not much sleep the night before she was feeling pretty exhausted. Unfortunately, they hadn't been able to save all the babies and it felt like a massive punch in the gut. Arizona had made sure Callie had been kept informed of what was happening and she was pleased that Mark was on hand to keep her entertained.

It killed her to be missing the valuable little time they had together before she had to leave to go back to Miami tomorrow, but it was great that Callie understood the pressures of being a surgeon.

Arizona headed to the canteen where she found Callie, Lexie and Mark in deep conversation. Her breath caught as she saw Callie's face light up the minute she saw an exhausted looking Arizona enter the room. Walking towards her the brunette wrapped her arms around the blonde giving her a big hug.

Callie knew sometimes after a tough day that the best feeling was to be held and to feel secure. It felt so right hugging Arizona again after all this time.

"Calliope… I am so sorry it took so long…it was…" Arizona struggled to find the words to explain the carnage caused by the explosion.

"I heard baby….Are you OK?" Callie asked running her hand over Arizona's hair as she hugged her even harder.

"I'm…I'll be fine…" She lied a little. She didn't want their time to be ruined, but all she wanted to do was go home, run a bath and cry a little.

"Arizona….it's OK…it's me" Callie pulled apart and looked at her ex "You don't need to put on an act for me OK?"

Arizona managed a weak smile back as she struggled to keep the tears at bay. God it felt so good to be with her again, but she was going tomorrow and they hadn't even had a discussion about what would happen after Callie went back to Miami.

Arizona reached up and placed her lips softly on Callie's and smiled warmly at the concerned face looking down at her.

"You know what….I could kill a drink right now" She said to herself as much as to Callie. If they were about to have a discussion where they admitted their lives were too complicated to make a relationship work, Arizona wanted some alcohol inside her first!

"Are you sure?" Callie asked.

"Yeap Deffo. I'm gonna go and have a real quick shower and I'll meet you in Joes in 20 mins. Invite Mark and Lexie…I won't be long OK?" Arizona said as she gave Callie a quick peck on the cheek before heading to take her shower.

As she let the water pour over her, Arizona's thoughts turned to the huge distance that separated her from Callie. Their schedules would mean that at best they could maybe see each other once every two months, and for what 48 hours. God it was so unfair. They had to find a way. She couldn't lose Callie a second time.

Twenty minutes later she walked into Joe's looking for the friends, but couldn't seem them. Arizona headed to the bar to order a drink when she felt familiar hands around her waist and turned around to be greeted by Callie's lips on hers. Mmmmm she instantly felt a little better .

Once Callie had pulled her lips away Arizona asked with a smile "Do you often go up kissing girls in bars without even so much as a hello!"

"Nope!" She smiled back "Just hot blonde Ped surgeons called Arizona Robbins" as she planted another kiss on the blonde.

"Well I'm very pleased to hear it" Arizona smiled back slipping her arm around Callie's waist as she kissed her on one of her cheeks.

"Where are you guys sitting? I couldn't see you!" Arizona asked looking over her should for Mark and Lexie.

"It's just us….as much as I've missed Mark…I didn't come all this way to spend time with him."

Arizona smiled. Despite being the one to suggest it, she was a little relieved that it was just the two of them.

"Listen….I don't know about you…but as much as Joe's has happy memories for me…especially that washroom…how would you feel about going back to my hotel, ordering a pizza and running a bath?"

Arizona could have died with happiness "Oh my god Calliope…that sounds amazing!"

Callie laughed taking Arizona by the hand they headed out of the bar to flag a taxi.

30 minutes later and they were back in Callie's room, the pizza had been ordered along with a bottle of chilled white wine and the bath was running. Callie knew how much Arizona loved a bubble bath and had already been thinking about suggestion one tonight and that was before the emergency she had been called in for.

5 minutes later and the two doctors were lying naked in the bath with a slice of pizza enjoying the sensation of the warm water on their aching bodies. Callie had felt aches in muscles that she hadn't used for a number of years after their hours of love making and so was enjoying the relaxing feeling, although maybe not as much as Arizona.

The blonde at the other end of the bath had her eyes closed and a huge smile on her face as she took a bite of the pizza slice "HEAVEN" she breathed out with a huge dimpled smile. "I feel like I've died and gone to heaven….oh no wait…" She said reaching for her wine glass and taking a large glass "…and now…now I'm there".

Callie let out a chuckle as she leant over and wiped a piece of dangling cheese off Arizona's chin. Arizona laughed "God I'm a sex god. I can't even eat pizza without getting it all over me!"

"Errrr excuse me Robbins…..you know very well that pizza is my favourite food… so you with my favourite food on you IS Sexy in my book!" Arizona smiled warmly as Callie, before taking another sip of her wine. The stress of the afternoon was evaporating from her body by the minute.

"You are so good for me Calliope….I don't know what I'll do when you're gone."

Callie let out a long groan….."It sucks that I have to go back tomorrow….I wish I could stay longer".

Arizona went quiet and stared at the bubbles rather than look at Callie. She felt so sad at the thought of the brunette leaving her and going back to Miami.

Callie took a big gulp of her wine and asked the other big question they had both been avoiding "What are we going to do Arizona?"

"I….I don't know exactly….but I do know that this….us….HAS to work. OK." Arizona still couldn't look directly at Callie as she felt the tears start to form

"But you hate long distance relationships" Callie said with a wobble in her own thinking back to the time of the possible merger when Callie had considered applying for job in Portand.

"I do!" Arizona replied "I think they are super hard...But I…" She finally found the courage to look into Callie's big brown eyes "..I love you Calliope. I love you so much. It's crazy, but I..I can't stop feeling this way…I literally can't imagine my life without you in it and don't want to….so we do everything what we have to do to make this work. OK?" She said forcefully so that Callie could hear her through the tears that started started falling down the brunette's cheeks.

Arizona had just told her she loved her and she felt so happy….but also incredibly sad that they lived so far apart.

"Arizona I love you too and I promise I will do everything within my power to make this work. WE are going to make this work. We can't fuck up again" Callie slid over to Arizona's end of the bath kissed the blonde "This is our time…it's our time".
