I Don't Own Minecraft
You know, for being this city for half a week now, I can say that I'm am surprised this is the first time I've been mugged here. I mean, Eline said she got attacked on her third day and considering she has a massive sword at her hip and looked like she can lift me as a weight, though really she can carry a lot more, it was a surprise that that had happened before someone tried something to the smaller, much weaker looking cat.
"Give me everything you have you mutt!" I swear, it's always mutt or bitch, it's over used, it isn't even applicable to any other demi out there besides dogs, and maybe the foxes, since they technically are apart of the canine family. So I just smiled at the man as I looked down at the knife in his hand for a moment, mostly to note the thing was already rusting, which means I don't want to get cut by it, though considering the rust just showed off how old it was. I doubt it's sharp enough to cut either way.
"Hey what's your level? Cause mine's twelve at the moment, close to thirteen as well" He looked taken aback by this, literally, he took a step back. More than probably because I bet he wasn't any higher than level seven and is just now realizing that if I'm not lying then he just picked a horrible target. Still, he drew up a brave face and made a face like he was about to spit at me before saying
"And why in the fresh hell should I tell a vermin like you that!" I just continued to smile at him and said happily.
"Oh you don't have to. I'm just curious as to if your worth is high enough to level me up, you know if I have to I kill you" I tilted my head to the side a bit, something I hear makes the innocent smile turn must more creepy. Though as the man's legs started to shake a bit, I considered briefly if it was considered a lie to say that, I mean I wasn't actually planning on killing him, but I did wonder if I did would it be enough to level me up, as I have been at level twelve for a while now...Eh, I don't consider speculations as lies, it's just a inquire after all, and that's what this is.
I was interrupted from my thoughts on the matter when I noticed the man was still in front of me. I guess just when I start to embrace it, my talent to manipulation is decreased, unfortunate in my opinion if that is the case. So I just widen my grin a bit more as I took a step towards the man...And just like that he turned tail and bolted. Personally, I blame it on the ears, even if I've learned how to turn it a bit creepy, the ears just still some how make it a bit cute which takes away from being terrifying.
I know I defended myself from being called as such in the past, but I mean come on, I wasn't trying to be scary there! It's completely different when it's my goal to be intimidating, and I don't care what anyone else says on the matter! Anyway, I should probably leave this place now, I mean I had only walked down here because I had wanted to try and find a nice tea shop I had heard from a surprisingly polite merchant I had a conversation with about food preparations.
Not sure why I was craving tea at the moment to be honest, maybe because all this world seems to have it ice tea and not any nice hot tea, something which I had developed a taste for over the years and the sudden withdraw of access to it seems to have lead to this. It wasn't like an addiction or anything, I could go just fine without it but it would be nice to have some bags of the stuff on hand to have during some of the longer nights on watch.
Not to mention I'm sure Zane would find it nice as well since we seem to share taste buds, which wasn't hard when everything is good to eat. Plus I'm sure there has to be some good tea for sleep in this world somewhere as well for when he wakes up from a particularly bad nightmare even if it doesn't help them, it should at least be soothing after such a rude awakening. At least I hope so, I'm not sure since I don't really dream at all, muchless have nightmares, well none that I can remember at any rate.
I think I read a study a while back when I had thought about majoring in psychology back when I first started college before changing my mind and went into something else, is that everyone dreams, it's just a sign of REM sleep, otherwise you would show the same signs as an insomniac from getting poor levels of rest. So as it happens, everyone dreams if they have a normal schedule in place, it's just some people, like me, never remember them. Not that I mind, I feel like my dreams would be a very strange place, even for me.
Still, I'm getting lost in thought again, something I do a lot on habit but since I've already been 'mugged' once today, maybe paying a bit more attention wouldn't kill me. At least I hope not, I mean I do already do my best to be aware of my surroundings, but I never put much stock in it unless I'm doing something with a goal in mind, like window shopping, or eavesdropping, or just enjoying the view. I'm not sure I've payed attention just to pay very close attention before just because.
And I guess I'm not starting now, because everything has a reason of some kind behind it, in this case it happens to be the fact that I don't want someone to get the drop on me because of the last couple minutes events. Because I have no doubt that the man that tried to attack me would not be telling the story of what happened, he'd probably make it should like he was some how the guy in the right in that situation or something.
Well whatever, I'm slipping back into rambling thinking again and I should stop that for at least a few minutes as I walked on, looking around for that tea shop again. Really, I wonder where in the world it is.
Zane was being a bit clingy recently, at least that's the most accurate word I could find for how he seemed to be acting. I think the separation idea was making him just stick closer to me when I was around, which to be fair was still most of the time. Still, I didn't mind to much, I just wanted to make sure he could function without me, as to be honest I missed his company as well.
I was mentioning that because he was currently walking close behind me, with a hand on my sleeve, as we moved around the village streets. I didn't mind at all as it let me know that he was still by me, not getting lost, which I think might be something that would start giving me nightmares to be honest. Though I don't think it would be that bad, I mean Dot would be with him and Dot is awesome and he is also pretty awesome so it would probably turn out alright.
Anyway, moving on from that, the reason as to why I was walking down the street at the moment through the village is because I was heading on towards the very small book store in the village. As this place doesn't actually have a proper library, at least not one that I could go into without being assaulted by at least two and a half gangs. This place really does have a problem. Mostly because for how many gangs there are doesn't make sense with the lack of violence, well, more like there is less than one would expect rather than there being none at all.
Still, either way, I find reading a bit weird when I know a room full of men are sizing me up, and I also find it a bit more than uncomfortable when it's clear only half of said men were sizing me up as a target for robbing. So going to a book store is just better all around, sure it hurts my personal funds a bit, but thankfully for me, I'm very good with numbers, which is basically all money is if you take the preconceive value from it, and as such even if I probably spend money the most frequently or one reason or another, I actually usually am the one that has the most on hand for one reason or another.
So off to there we go, plus it'll also let Zane have the chance to pick out a few books of his own, and I might as well get one for Eline as well, though I think she's slowly stopped reading as much now that she can experience life with her own eyes instead from the words of a book. Which is fine, I've been reading so much to continue to close the gap in my knowledge about this world, while Zane I think uses it as a way to better himself, while also doing it because he really enjoys it. Like how I've started to teach him how to cook. The basics of it at least.
Moving back to the reason why I was actually heading to the store in the first place was a simple one. I've only been able to dig up faint rumors about endermen in general in my history research, mostly revolving around them just being creatures that appear and disappear with not real record of much proof besides a few clear sightings over the last few hundred years. Meaning that they are very careful, so how in the world did I find one just walking about?
It was too random, as while I do believe that random chance is a possible thing, something else had to be in play here. So I'm doing background research on endermen, just to drag up whatever hidden lore can be found there. And let me tell you, there isn't much, like at all. Everything I've come up with could be as good as speculation, but I'm stubborn when I want to be or if I'm interested and I am really interested. Because of one fact. I'm a Sliver Tongue.
Yeah, that had been a shock but it made a bit of sense, of course after I figured out what a Sliver Tongue was to begin with. Apparently it's a very rare gift that allows a person to speak every language fluently, because of what I can only assume is plot reasons. It actually isn't that big of a gift because the languages in this world aren't near as vast as my old one. Only five I've been able to guesstimate. Common: the everyday language, Ender: the enderman's language, Ancient: Only really a writing and only found in certain ancient build sights, Dem: A self made code language based on Common that most Demi-humans in their lands learn for self communication, and the last one which I was guessing, a language for the inhabits of the Nether, which I properly called, Nether.
So while the gift is quite rare and only is briefly mentioned in some very selection books on the theology of languages that took a while to find, it doesn't really amount to much when you think about it. I mean, Common is something everyone speaks, Dem is just a code of it, sure it might take a while but it is completely learnable if someone cared. Ancient is a dead language that only some historians would know for ruin exploration. While both Nether and Ender is something no one really even knows exists for certain and not something I can exactly use in the overworld because it would just sound like gibberish, not to mention I can' even tell when my tongue is switch dialects.
It's all very vague and to be honest a bit of a let down with how technically not needed this ability was, though I should mention just as a side note. In a royal setting, depending on the history, like with the human and Demi high courts for their respected lands, Sliver Tongues have been known to be the most trust worthy for the role as negotiator with foreign lands or villages, because they are said to have a natural connection with all walks of life which is bound to their tongue.
At least that's what I think it is, because from my observations of the human hierarchy it would appear that a sit is there that hasn't been filled in years, almost a century now, the seat is called 'Sliver's Speak' a bit dramatic in my opinion but enough to draw conclusions from. Of course I could be completely wrong in most of that because it's mostly just guess work from a lot of half hinted clues in my reading and research but the pieces do fit the puzzle. At least for the humans, I haven't found much to support something similar with the demi race, but it seems like it would hold weight with them as well since the humans would use that person for talks with the demis.
So that's a neat bit of history that doesn't really help me but lore is fun so I don't particularly mind any. Either way, I've just gone through everything I've already learned or made an educated guessed about, so the book I'm looking for is about something else besides all that obscure shit. No I'm actually just looking to get a book on all the mobs it this world. The corrector term is monster but I'm not really sure what really falls into that category anymore.
As I know of a bunch that existed in the original game, I can't see it only being those creatures, as something as massive as demi-humans didn't exist before and I'm one myself now, so clearly the maker of this world doesn't care much about keeping true to the original source material. So I'm a bit curious about what all new creatures are there in this world that I'll have to keep an eye out on.
Plus, if there happens to be a section on endermen in the book, then that's just a nice bonus, though of course I have to hope that they have a book on the matter to begin with, so here's for hoping!
"You're mean" Eline just ignored me as we walked back from our most recent job. It wasn't much, just clearly out a small horde of zombies, at least that's what we thought it was. Turns out there was more than a small amount, probably a left over swarm from the new moon last week. Yeah that's something I learned as well, monsters like zombies spawn more frequently when there is less light, obviously, but I some how didn't factor that into the light the moon also happens to give off being a major factor. So when I decided to get my accuracy with some Firebolts, I might have attracted a few dozen extra from the light, nothing big but Eline was still a bit annoyed at me.
"And you're insane" See! This is what I'm talking about about! Mean! Still, I just said back.
"You have no way of proving that" Eline looked at me like saying that only helped her point, I see no reason why that would be the case so I chose to ignore it. Warren, though, seemed to want to get into this little squabble and said.
"True but I feel like we do have enough proof at this point to make a case at least" Now he's being mean! It's really hard to feel like the leader when all you're members are mean to you. At least Zane and Dot believe in my sanity!... Or at least don't say anything out of being nice or in the slime's case, not being able to say anything in general. Yeah. I'm going to choose to accept the former of those two options.
"I see nothing wrong with improving my Spells! Especially when it's something I'm still getting use to" Eline had a quick response ready for that one, beating Warren to the punch as she rejoined the conversation.
"Then be like the rest of us and do it when we aren't in a fight!" I thought about huffing again at that before just deciding to change my approach to try and appeal to their logical sides so they could stop focusing on my pyromania.
"I need to use it on live targets though! How else am I to assess the damage to a creature without using it on one? If I tried that one a tree then I would just burn a forest down...Besides, one of us has to be creative considering you haven't done anything besides the base limit of you're Skills" Eline suddenly stopped walking as we walked onward. Blinking, I stopped as well and turned to face her, not really knowing why she had stopped. I mean I made some good points but I don't think they were that good.
"What do you mean base limit of my Skills?" I blinked again, now wondering why she was asking. I had explained this to her, well at least the theory behind it, though judging by how confused she looked at the moment, maybe she doesn't remember because it's clear she's racking her mind trying to find when she would have figured something like that out.
"Remember how I told you about how my Spell, Darkbolt, had a cost of ten MP, but I could super charge it to get a stronger Spell from it?" She nodded at that, clearly knowing what I was talking about but wasn't sure as to why it mattered. Ok, I'm at a loss now. Did she fuck up or did I fuck up? I have no idea who's more in the wrong here to be honest. I'm going to blame myself for not pushing on it to make sure she understood all the hidden things in that statement, so I continued to explain.
"Well... It stands to reason that the same would for your Skills as well, from what you told me, Sharpness is only as a base cost, it doesn't mean that's all there is to the skill. Here, we're still a while away from the village gate. See that tree over there? Slash at it using Sharpness with all your energy points. Let's see what happens!" I wasn't expecting this to happen but I'm down with seeing what happens anyway!
"Um, yeah ok, I'm still only at about half from using Smite to make killing those undead easier but that's still a lot more than twenty points" I nodded at that, as it hadn't yet been the needed five minutes for all of our energy points to start regening. I still keep a mental count about that stuff in my head even if I don't actually need it near as much when it's night time.
So with that, I steered Zane back a few feet as I was expecting something pretty awesome, while Warren was all on his own. He deserves it for his truly cruel and unneeded words! Spitefulness aside, I watched with a small grin as Eline walked up to the tree I had pointed out while drawing on her sword. After a second the blade hummed with a faint glow, showing the clear use to Sharpness that I've long gotten use too. Only for it to sudden glow much brighter for a very short second as she swung and sliced third fourths of the way through the tree's base. Which with all the force behind it was more than enough to fall the tree the rest of the way down.
"Cool!" I couldn't help it! That was pretty awesome! With that I sped walked up to Eline and looked at the damage, noting with now very clear interest at the long slash mark on another tree, that had been behind the one she had cut down. Very interesting, so she has a projectile attack as well. Sure it costs a lot more, but wind blades are very badass, and don't conform to reality or science at all.
"Oh my gods... Did I cut through it?" I nodded happily at Eline's question to herself, as I walked up to the still standing tree and looked at the damage. Just the wind blade from the sword was still enough to cut a good two or so inches into the trunk, which says a lot since the attack was primary aimed at the first tree, this was just a show of the left over force behind that strike...Though it seems a bit much for Sharpness one.
"Did you over power Sharp I, or Sharp II? Because looking at this I think it'd would be closer to Sharpness two" She nodded at my words as I thought about to for a long moment before I suddenly snapped my fingers together as an idea struck.
"Idea! Anything over fifty, which I believe is the cost of Sharpness second causes a very sharp blade of wind to form from the direction that you slash in, while anything under that cost would increase the duration of you're base Sharpness time limit before it goes on cool down!" Eline looked at me like she had no idea where in the world I got that idea form, I just shrugged at that, I mean, it's how I would have that Skill be used in a game system like this. Make the stronger Skill have an over clock feature while giving you're original one a bonus to the time limit. It just made sense.
"I guess, that would make sense, but we're going to have to try it more later to see if you're right or not. You know, when it's day time, when it makes sense to use new untested powers" Oi! I help her out and she circles back around to the whole thing I has been trying to get the topic of conversation away from! Still, I couldn't be annoyed, I was more excited about playing around with the Specialization system again! That's always great fun.
It was a while later, not much, only about a day and a half. Nothing all that excited has happened really, though I will admit I'm glad that a lot more jobs seem to have started to open up. Mostly weren't anything special, but we were more and more going back out onto the flied to fight monsters, usually undead, sometimes creepers. The most basic monsters out there, right along side spiders.
So much so that now that we all around, in, or very close to the double digits, the exp gain is basically nothing. The curve for levels just seemed to up by a lot at the level ten mark. It's just one of those things I guess, you can shoot up when you're really low leveled but after that, really the level is more of a backseat thing to the experience that you gain from spending so much time fighting and exploring rather than the orbs you get for completing certain tasks and killing.
Though I do think it plays quite the role in society as well, if more of a hidden one. After all, looking back at that guy that robbed me, thinking back on it, I just instantly realized he was just a low leveled idiot. How? I'm not certain but I certainly have ideas to make up for it. Personally I'm choosing to go with the power level idea. You can tell if someone is dangerous or not just by being near them and feeling there level.
It's how I was aware that we were being watched back in Colwell before I was ambushed, and how I knew even before I was told that I was in a lot of trouble in that ambush when for all I would have known, all those people where way below me. I only had a guess on the Necromancers level at the time after all. Though I think it might be linked to the Wisdom score than just a natural thing everyone has access to. Though it certainly isn't hard to have since I believe my WIS was literally only average, so I might be a bit off on that count but I think it would make sense.
Then again, I've been told on many occasions now that what I think makes sense is not at all sense worthy. Well whatever, I ignored Warren and Eline then and I can ignore them now! Plus I seem to have this game system pretty accurately pegged most of the time, so I don't think something like that is where my first big mistake would be felt in. And if so, then whatever.
Like ninety percent of my thoughts are all guess work anyway when it comes to most if no all my ideas involving the lore and system of this world so I have to be wrong some times. Being smart doesn't mean being incapable of being wrong. It just lessens the likelihood of it happening, which is usually enough to get me by. Like right now, I'm guessing there is about a forty percent chance that I'm going to be running into an enderman soon.
Why? Well it's simple, I've had a few days to think on it and I've come up with a few likely conclusions as to what and why an enderman would in the village. Those aren't actually important at the moment for this specific formula I've used to determine if I would be having another encounter with the teleporty bunch. No the reason why I'm sure I'm going to run into them again is a simple matter of curiosity.
I mean, the one I ran into most likely would have gone away to walk to someone, another of their kind more than likely, and would want answers as to why I could speak a language that only they should now. Obviously Sliver Tongues aren't well known to these beings, so that will spark a lot of interest and when I factor that into the reason why I believe they are more than likely here, well a translator would most certainly be helpful in their case if I'm right, and if I'm not then, like I said, still about a forty percent chance just from that one enderman's curiosity alone.
With the reason I believe they're here, then it shoots up to a solid, seventy-ish on the percentages...Ok to be honest I'm kind of bull shitting on the likelihood of it happening, the numbers just sound right so I'm going with it because it sounds cooler. I mean I am good with numbers and fast mathematics but that's when actual numbers, not predicting outcomes and assigning a number to them, though the former I also seem to be decent at, the latter not so much.
Either way, I mention all this to say I wasn't exactly surprised when I heard a faint warble behind me, in the small alleyway I had been humming to myself in. Glancing behind me, being careful to not notice the eyes, I noted that the enderman was the same as I remembered, so more than likely it was the same one I met, but I don't exactly know how differing they can look.
"Yo!" I gave a nice short wave at them, they just looked down at me for a long moment, clearly not knowing what to do, as they seemed to think this was going to be a surprise visit. So I did the only thing that I should do in this kind of situation.
"I've been expecting you" What? I've always wanted to say that one! The enderman just looked even more confused now, so I just sighed a bit before standing up, and said simply.
"Don't worry about it, bucket list thing. Anyway, I have decided to help you in your time of need!" I was really tempted to say, 'take me to your leader' as well but that can wait for another day. Anyway, moving past that the enderman, I really have to learn their name, finally seemed to snap into focus now that I had stopped being me, aka talking about whatever I think made me sound coolest.
"What are you talking about?" I just smiled as I dusted myself off a bit from where I had been siting and said happily.
"Well I mean the fact that you lot have a wounded friend am I right?" We just stared at each other, the best we could all things considered, for a long moment.
Not sure what I could really add here to be honest, I mean I could talk about all the lore and stuff I've been stuffing into like every chapter but I don't see much of a point in doing that at the moment so I'm not. I guess I could add here that I have a lot of random things just on a massive sized notepad file full of stuff that I have to introduce but haven't gotten around to it and then forgot to talk about. Like the thing with Eline's Skill, that should have showed up ages ago but I totally forgot about it with all the other things I was talking about, like the dungeons or world history lore, then the whole thing with the illagers happened and Eline wouldn't have used her Skill there so it was pushed even more back and it was this whole thing. Honestly I have like three more examples I could talk about expect I still haven't added them in yet. Anyway, my rant about word padding aside, See ya.
