Meet Me At Midnight
17
Spring was right around the corner, Fuuto had just finished the last recording session for his upcoming album. His bandmates invited him to dinner to celebrate, but he declined, he was looking forward to seeing someone else...
His manager drove him home, it was 11:54 PM. "Congratulations, Fuuto," his manager exclaims.
"Thank you, Sir," Fuuto replies. Fuuto looks down at his phone and texts Ema, telling her to stay up for him. When she didn't reply within ten second, he panicked and calls her.
"H-hello?," Ema says, in a half awaken voice. Fuuto felt awful for waking her up, but he wanted to see so badly.
"I take the time out of my day to text you, the least you could do is reply faster," Fuuto says.
She yawns. "I-I'm sorry Fuuto..," she says sweetly. Fuuto felt his heart break a little.
"I'm coming home now. Stay up, I want to see you," Fuuto says gently.
"Why?," Ema asks innocently.
"Don't you want to see me?," Fuuto asks, feeling slightly offended.
"No, no, that came out wrong, I'm sorry... I-I'd love to see you."
Fuuto felt his heart spring out of his chest at her sweet words. He wasn't sure if she loved him the way he did, but in that moment, it sure felt like she did. "Good, I'll be there in ten, lo-," Fuuto clears his throat. Was I really about to say that? "See you later, babe." He hangs up.
"Who was that?," his manager asks.
"None of your business," Fuuto snaps.
His manager pauses for a minute and says: "The songs on the album... You wrote them all, correct?"
"Most of them, yeah," Fuuto responds.
"How come they're all love songs? You hate love songs," his manager says, "Are you okay, Fuuto? I don't know what's going on, but it could affect your work."
Fuuto's expression turns gloomy. "Don't be ridiculous! The theme of the album is heartbreak! Obviously they're all love songs!," Fuuto huffs.
"I know, but the message in each song is so precise and is always the same: I love her, but she'll never love me back, I can't live without her but I can't have her, because she loves another. Are you sure you're okay?," his manager asks.
"Pft! Why wouldn't I be?," Fuuto says, nonchalantly. His manager sighs.
Fuuto speeds out the car, through the yard, and up the stairs to Ema's bedroom. Fuck this elevator, I'm faster. When he reaches her front door, he's a panting, sweating mess. He takes a second to catch his breath. He turns on his phone and checks himself in his front camera, fixing his hair. He knocks at the door. "Coming!," she calls out from behind the door. He hears footsteps and the door swings open. Ema was stood in front of him, wearing shorts and an oversized a sweater, she looked adorable to him.
"Hey Fuuto!," Ema says, smiling brightly.
Fuuto genuinely smiles at her: "Come on a walk with me."
"A walk?," Ema questions innocently.
"It's midnight so not many people are out, I won't be recognized. Plus, the temperature is perfect!," Fuuto says.
"Okay sounds like a plan! Let me get dressed first," Ema says, turning around.
Fuuto grabs her wrists. "You don't have to, you know...," Fuuto smirks, looking down at her tiny shorts and bare legs.
"Fuuto!," Ema exclaims, jokingly swatting his arm. He laughs, as she slams the door in his face.
Fuuto takes Ema to the nearby park. It was obviously deserted, considering the time. The cherry blossoms were blooming, so pink leaves covered the ground, as they walked down the pathway.
"How was work?," she asks him.
"It was alright, I guess," he shrugs.
"You know, I watched the first season of that drama show," Ema says, Fuuto's eyes widen in surprise. "Fuuto was really good!," she exclaims. Fuuto smiles sadly and looks down. Ema tilts her head: "What's wrong, Fuuto?"
"The show didn't do as well as I thought it would, so my manager said I could only work as an actor part time, only taking on small roles...," Fuuto explains, looking gloomy.
Ema is sadden by the news. "I'm so sorry, Fuuto," Ema says, leaning in for a hug.
Fuuto puts his hand in front of her: "Don't pity me! It's fine! I'll work hard and become an actor full time someday! I know I will, I won't give up, I can't give up!," Fuuto says, feeling determined.
Ema smiles. "Good, and until then I'll watch every show and movie you're in, cheering you on from the other side of the screen," Ema says. Fuuto blushes. "I'm really proud of you, Fuuto. I hope you know that," Ema expresses.
"I sure hope you are, babe! I work my ass off!," Fuuto exclaims. They laugh.
Ema glances up at Fuuto, taking in his devilishly handsome features. He looked even more attractive up close than on TV, which she honestly didn't think was possible. Distracted by Fuuto's gorgeous face, she trips on a rock, but Fuuto catches her just in time.
"Careful!," he scolds, "It's dark out, so don't walk too fast. I can't be seen with Miss Two-Left-Feet, now can I?" Fuuto was still as harsh and brutally honest as always, but he was less thorny. Ema could tell he was warming up to her.
Ema giggles: "Well I don't have much of a choice now do I, Mr Daddy-Longlegs?"
Fuuto raises an eyebrow: "Did you just call me 'Daddy'?" Ema's cheeks heat up, Fuuto chuckles. "How did you know I liked being called 'Daddy', hm?," Fuuto says flirtatiously. He wraps his arm around her shoulder lovingly.
"L-lucky guess?," Ema says, feeling flustered.
Fuuto smirks. "Very lucky guess. Please humor me and call me Daddy again," Fuuto cooes, nudging her chin with his free hand.
"Fuuto! That's embarrassing!," Ema says.
"C'mon! Pleaseeee!," Fuuto begs.
Ema rolls her eyes. "D-daddy...," she says shyly.
Fuuto laughs and kisses her temple. "Your face is so adorable when you're flustered... I might just have to kiss it," Fuuto teases.
"Shut up!," she exclaims, jokingly slapping his chest. He laughs.
That weekend, Wataru and Ema sat in the living room playing the new video game Natsume had just given the latter. Ema wins for the thirteenth round straight. "UGHH!," Wataru whines, falling flat on his back. He pouts, Ema giggles.
"How about you take the race car for the next round? I've been wanting to try out a classic car anyways," Ema suggests.
"No!," Wataru declares, sitting up straight, "I need to win by skill alone!"
"You don't-"
Wataru cuts her off: "No, I will! I'm going to work hard at school and at my video games! Then I'll become a CEO, so that someday I'll be a man worthy of Onee-san's love!"
Ema's eyes widen. She giggles. "You're already a man worthy of my love, Wataru-chan," Ema says.
She kisses him on the cheek and Wataru turns as red as a tomato. "YOU'RE SO SLY, WATARU-CHAN!," Tsubaki, who's sitting on the couch, whines.
Masaomi walks over to them. He says: "Ema-chan, may I speak to you for a minute?"
Ema looks up at him and tilts her head to the left. "Sure..." She gets up and follows him outside.
"What is it, Masaomi-san?," Ema asks. Masaomi turns bright red, he places his hand over his face in an attempt to cover his blush. "Masaomi-san?," Ema questions.
In reality, Masaomi pulled Ema away because he was starting to feel jealous of Wataru spending so much time with her, but he couldn't say that. I have to make something up, quick!
"Uhhhh, do you want to go to the supermarket with me?," Masaomi asks, speaking way faster than his normal paste.
"But we just went to the supermarket yester-"
Masaomi really her off: "I REALLY NEED TO BUY SOME SQUASH!" Ema stares at him for a minute, mildly confused.
"O-okay, sure..."
Masaomi smiles and they make their way to his car.
"T-thank you for coming with me," Masaomi says nervously.
"Of course! But why are we going to that supermarket that's really far away just to buy squash?," Ema asks.
Because I want to take you away from those wolves for as long as I possibly can. "I-it's my favorite! The food selection there is wonderful!," Masaomi exclaims, clearly lying.
"Really? I think the one next to my school has a better food selection," Ema says.
Masaomi laughs nervously. I need to change the subject, now! "S-so, how's school?," Masaomi asks. Good save, Masaomi, I'm proud of you man!
"Good! I'm slowly beginning to study for finals, which are coming up in a month, so I'm really nervous about that, but other than that, everything's going smoothly!," Ema says.
"I'm glad! And don't worry about finals, you'll do great, I know you will," Masaomi reassures her. Ema blushes at Masaomi's kind words.
"Masaomi-san?," Ema says.
"Yes?"
"Can you... drive with one hand?," Ema asks cautiously.
"Yeah, why?," Masaomi asks.
"Give me your hand."
Masaomi removes his right hand from the steering wheel and Ema entwines her fingers with his. "Thank you for always being there, Masaomi-san. It means a lot," Ema says, resting her head on his shoulder. Masaomi's eyes widen, as his face begins to heat up. HOLY COW, ARE WE REALLY HOLDING HANDS? IS THIS SERIOUSLY HAPPENING? OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! "As cliche as it may sound, I can't imagine what our family would be without you," Ema adds, "You make me feel so warm and safe. It's like when you're there, I just know everything will be okay, and I know I'm not the only one who feels that way."
Masaomi's blush intensifies. "D-don't say that or I'll get a big head," Masaomi says.
"Oh, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable! I know you don't like getting complimented...," Ema says.
"N-no! It's just that... Um... N-never mind," Masaomi says.
I wonder what he was about to say...
They finally arrive at the supermarket after the hour long drive. "We're here!," Masaomi announces.
They step out of the car and Masaomi goes to grab a shopping cart. Ema's face lights up and like a little child, she jumps into the cart. "Take me to the battlefield!," she triumphantly says. Masaomi laughs and he pushes her into the supermarket.
"Okay so, squash huh?," Ema says, looking around.
Masaomi blushes a little. Did I seriously tell her that we needed to buy squash? Fucking squash? Out of all food items: squash? "Y-yeah.."
Ema tilts her head to the left: "Then why are in the dairy section?," Ema questions.
Masaomi panics. "I-I needed to buy some gouda!," he blurts out.
"O-oh... okay? Oh, there's gouda!," Ema exclaims, pointing at the cheese.
The doctor begins to question his life choices: I fucking hate gouda, why did I tell her we needed gouda? Now I have to buy it... Ukyo will obviously get suspicious and question me about why I'm buying gouda, and Tsubaki will overhear the conversation and loudly question my intentions, which will cause Azusa to yell at him to not disturb me, which will catch Kaname's attention and he'll pitch in, and Kaname will obviously tell Hikaru, who will start interrogating me about why I bought the gouda, which will cause me to crack and confess my crush on her, which when Fuuto finds out about it, will bully me about it (despite the fact that I'm almost twice his age), and Yuusuke will obviously take notice of the bullying and ask me about the crush and when I tell him, he'll freak out and yell "YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON OUR IMOUTO-CHAN?", which Subaru will overhear (because they're strangely always home at the same time), then he will tell Iori, who will tell Louis, who will definitely tell Ema while doing her hair! SHIT!
"Masaomi-san, are you okay?," Ema asks, innocently looking up at her older brother.
"W-what? Y-yes, yes! I'm great!," Masaomi says.
"Are you sure? You look a little red...," Ema comments.
"L-let's just get the gouda and the squash and go home!," Masaomi exclaims, speed walking.
The next morning, Ema decided to sleep in, since it was Sunday. She was planning on sleeping in the whole day, but her big brother Tsubaki had other plans... At 9:30 AM, he sneaks into her room (she always left the door unlocked incase Wataru needed anything) to wake her up. He kneels besides her bed and sings in her ear: "Rise and shine, Imouto-chan, Onii-san is here to make you feel good.." When the pretty brunette didn't flinch, he knew it was time for plan B. He climbs onto the bed and places his knees on either side of her body, straddling her. He places one hand on her pillow, besides her head, and brushes her bangs out of her face with the other. "Imouto-chan..," he whispers. She doesn't move a muscle.
Tsubaki leans down towards her face, his lips inches away from hers, when suddenly he feels someone grab his arm, pulling him off the sleeping girl. He stumbles back. "What do you think you're doing?," Azusa chides.
Tsubaki looks at Azusa, frowning. "It's none of your business," he hisses.
"It involves her, so it is my business," Azusa bites back, "Don't tell me you were trying to take advantage of a sleeping girl."
"I'm not handing her over to anyone, not even to you, Azusa," Tsubaki growls, "Now, if you'd be so kind to fuck off and leave us alone, I'd be very appreciative."
Azusa's hand curls into a fist. Awoken by the commotion, Ema slowly begins to wake up, unsure of what's happening right besides her bed. Azusa hisses: "I am not going anywhere until you get the fuck out of her room."
"So that you can take advantage of her when I'm gone?," Tsubaki barks.
"I am not like you, Tsubaki!" Azusa growls.
Ema sits up. "G-guys?," Ema rubs her eyes, "What's going on here?"
The twin brothers whip their heads towards the still half asleep girl. "Ema-chan!," Azusa says, startled.
"It's nothing, go back to sleep, Imouto-chan," Tsubaki cooes. Ema tilts her head, feeling confused, but shrugs it off and go back to sleep. Tsubaki and Azusa sigh. "I don't want to fight in front of her, so you win for today," Tsubaki says, walking out the door, "But, only for today."
Azusa frowns. He sighs again and walks towards the sleeping girl. He kneels down and kisses her forehead. "I'm sorry about that, Imouto-chan...," he whispers. He takes a good look at her: taking in her beautiful long eyelashes, her gorgeous brown locks, her adorable freckles, and her soft pouty pink lips... His eyes darken with lust. He wanted to kiss those lips so badly. He leans in carefully, closing his eyes. But before their lips could touch, he snaps out of his daze. Azusa shakes his head vigorously. Damnit, I'm just like him...
