Nobody Listens Chapter 17: "Making Amends"

Day three of being grounded…

Della Duck came into her son's room, "Hey Dewey…." She said gently. Her son had pressed himself against the wall and was sitting there with his feathers ruffled and scruffy.

He closed his eyes.

"Dewdrop, are you okay?"

Dewey sniffled and turned the other direction.

Della hated seeing her son like this, "Dewey, it's okay. Come on, eat your dinner. You didn't eat breakfast or lunch. You must be hungry!"

He whimpered, "N-no."

Louie had taken it way better when he had been grounded. He had just accepted the fact that he had made a mistake. And at least he ate his food.

Della immediately felt her heart shatter into one million pieces. She decided to go get Webby.

Maybe she could help.

Just so happened that today Beakley had taken her to that definitely-not-secret island where young warriors totally didn't fight each other in combat.

She curled her bottom beak. So Webby was gone for the day.

Her mind drifted off to Donald.

"Hey, you're un-grounded, okay?" She kneeled down and tried to make eye-contact with him, "I think you've been taking this too hard…I'm sorry, alright?" Della told him.

"No, I think I deserve it."

He sniffled again and wiped his eyes with his sleeves. Della leaned forward and kissed his head.

"Come on now; let's go find Donald, shall we?" She said in a cheery voice.

Dewey nodded.

Della gently grabbed her son's hand.

She smiled hopefully, but Dewey didn't see it.

"I wonder what Donald's up to."

Dewey tried to speak but couldn't.

Words failed him.

He didn't deserve any of this affection and he knew it very well.

In the next chapter, we're going to see how Dewey and Donald get along. I'll post this chapter and the next chapter at the same time.
