A/N: So, I had a couple of one-shot ideas, just wanted to ask about what you guys think about it. They sounded too weird, but here it isXD 'the Devil is a Bartender', where Maou met Emi in a bar, 'the Devil is the Caretaker', just as what the title says, and the most cringiest of all, 'the Devil is a Firefighter". Tell me if they're really weird. And, enjoy this chapter. MaouEmi fans might get angry from a couple of scenes here, but it'll get better, I swear

She takes it back. Pee-brain has not changed at all. Deep down, he has a long, long, long, way to go if he thinks she'll just erase him out of her death list.
Now that she has established that the idiot next to her can be trusted enough that she doesn't have to worry about mincing him down into bite-sized demon lord snacks, and that he has proven to her that he's not actually 100% stupid (just, maybe, 99%), she realized that if there's one thing that didn't changed about him, it's his unbelievable ability to be amazingly dense.
While walking, she dropped hints by saying things like, 'I still feel chilly', or, 'my left shoulder is cold', but even after all that, he still kept on smiling and grinning like the total goofball he was.
Can't he tell that he's not holding the umbrella right that up until now half of her body was still wet?
Her temper almost bursted out of its bubble when a black, Toyota car drove past them, and the dirty water from a puddle splashed the side of her jeans.
Oh. My. Freaking. God.
Alright, that's it. She can't stand this anymore.
"Maou, could you please tell me why umbrellas were invented?"
He had the gull to act all confused, but he seemed to decide to just roll with it.
"I thought they were some kind of magical shield before", she thought it was from the start, too. "That's when I still didn't know magic didn't exist here"
Calm down. Idiots require special attention, don't forget.
She felt herself shiver again, causing her to scoot in a bit underneath the umbrella so she could do the honors of protecting herself, but when she got closer, he moved further to the side, and her shoulder was once again back in the rain.
Was he doing this on purpose? It looks to her that he's really asking for a full-Hero-special-beat-down.
She tried her best not to let her annoyance show on her face. She's been itching to take away the umbrella and just start running back to her apartment, taking advantage of his still recovering body.
But, since, he was kind enough to follow her outside like a creepy stalker, she decided to go against the idea.
"Umbrellas were made to shield us from the rain", she said it as slowly as possible in case he was having a difficult time comprehending her sentence.
"Annnndddd?"
She gestured to the damped part of her green blouse. "Care to explain why I'm wet as a newborn babe?"
His eyes scanned around her body, and he finally noticed her current dilemma.
If he ends up asking that she was wet this whole time, and that she should've just told him, she'll smack him.
"You were wet this whole time? You should've just said so-"
SMACK.
She smacked him, hard, and he stumbled a bit from the sudden attack.
Emi expected him to say one of his old-fashioned complaints about how much of a war freak person she was while growling like a feral dog, but then he did the unthinkable.
He laughed.
"You think this is funny? Does seeing me freeze to death that funny?"
He shook his head as they trudged along the pavement, massaging his slightly defined jaw in a boyish manner.
"It's nothing…"
"Just scooch over a bit, you ding-dong"
"Would it kill you to say 'please'?"
He brought himself closer to her, shoulders touching, and the warmth coming from his body tickled her skin. She moved in a bit to try and get some more, and she found herself intertwining her fingers with his again.
He didn't seem to mind her sudden boldness, but she could tell from the stiffness of his body that he still wasn't prepared with her actions.
If Emi could see herself right now, she'd be blushing. She has no idea what came into her and she just took his hand like it was the most normal thing to do. It's so unlike her.
She could just say that she needed to get closer to him so she won't get wet. But, he'll definitely say 'that's a stupid excuse'. Well, her fists might have a better excuse to give him.
She couldn't say what exactly they were as of the moment. She got too hung up on worrying about Rika that she had almost forgotten about what happened to them back at the amusement park.
As much as she wanted to erase the kiss out of her mind, along with the out of the blue, love confessions, she never really planned out how to approach Maou about the things running inside of her.
Dealing with guns and bombs sort of makes it hard to focus on one topic after the other.
Yes, there's no hiding the secret that she likes Maou now. No, not to the point of loving him.
She only realized it before at the Ferris wheel, but there's one more thing that bothered her more than the rest.
There's just so many things wrong with the Hero having feelings for the demon lord.
So, so many, that it left a great, empty void in the pit of her chest.
"You still mad at me?"
Maybe, she went too far with smacking him.
She shrugged. "A little"
"Well, okay then, miss polka dots"
"Polka dots?"
The first thing that went through her head was her new polka dot cushion that she saw on sale. Did he somehow see it?
"Two words", he couldn't hide away the grin on his face as she tried to make sense of whatever weirdness he's about to say. "Look. At. Clothes"
"That's three words-eh?"
It all made sense now. Her clothes. And, she was all drenched.
Without even looking down, she crossed her arms over her chest, embarrassed. Why didn't this guy say anything from the beginning!?
"White suits you much better"
Another smack.
They made their way up through the flight of stairs. It only took about a few steps and Maou was already clutching at his sides (serves him right for being such a huge pervert), and when they made it on the 2nd floor, he begged for them to take a time-out.
"Come on, hurry up. I'm making puddles over here"
He glared at her as he leaned against the wall, holding onto his knees, and a small pang of guilt washed over her. Only a little, though. Lecher.
"It's not my fault we were running around earlier, otherwise I wouldn't have to be like this"
Her nose was starting to get itchy, and she could feel the urge to sneeze. Please don't catch a cold now. She already skipped out on work today. Taking another day off wasn't really that ideal.
"There's something I've been meaning to ask you", he stood up straight, serious, and she raised an eyebrow. Since he had just helped her earlier, she decided to ask him.
He shuffled around like a kid who got caught stealing candy out of a jar, anxious, and it got her curious as to what led him to be this way. Nothing good, maybe.
"You got three seconds for me to start walking"
His eyes widened, and he scratched the side of his chin. She saw him bit down on his lip, and she waited for him to speak up.
"It's about what happened back in the-"
"Maou-san! Yusa-san!"
They turned their heads towards the direction of the voice.
Chiho stood at the top of the stairs, wearing the same clothes she wore the day she went 'shopping' with the others back in the mall.
The poor girl couldn't sit still when she learned about the attack on the news, so she escaped her shift and went running towards the train station, but as soon as she arrived, the police stationed outside were already arresting all of the terrorists.
Emi called her, told her what happened, and while Maou had been unconscious, she'd visit every now and then.
Chiho asked if the others were okay, and she was just relieved to see them all in one piece.
Um, not all, though.
She hopped down towards them, skipping past a step before landing into the platform they were in, before immediately engulfing Maou into a huge hug.
"Maou-san! You're okay! I've been worried sick about you!"
He grinned, ruffling her hair, and even though Emi knew that this was nothing but a happy reunion between two friends, something in her didn't like the way the young girl just latched on her coworker.
"Sorry for making you worry, Chi, but I'm in perfect shape now", as if, "ready to go to work tomorrow"
Chiho gasped, and then she proceeded on scolding her friend. "You can't just go to work already! Suzuno-chan told me you just woke up this morning!"
She turned to Emi, silently asking for her to back her up, when she noticed her shivering again.
"Yusa-san, why are you all wet?"
"Long story short, my, uh, umbrella got lost?"
It was lost, but not in the way she thinks.
She got confused. Either way, she seemed to have accepted her vague answer. She returned her attention back to Maou, beaming at him.
"While having Maou-san back at work seems nice, don't you think your top-most priority right now is resting?"
She rocked back and forth with her hands behind her back. That heavy feeling was still there, but it was slowly disappearing the moment they stepped away from their hug.
"Well, how about you two go so some catching up while I go back inside and shower?"
Leaving them both alone with each other unnerved her, but she's pretty sure they had a lot of things they wanted to talk about. Also, she wasn't sure what she'd do if she stayed too much with her.
If she can't erase the kiss, then Chiho obviously wouldn't.
She thought she might've damaged their friendship, but not once has she directed any kind of hostility to her.
Emi couldn't tell if she's pretending that she's not bothered by it or not. She'll confront her about it, but not yet. What she needed was to have a talk with Maou.
She jogged up the stairs, smiling at the younger female. "You guys can talk inside if you want"
"Nah, here is fine", Maou waved her off, and she went back inside the comfort of her flat.
She found Suzuno and Alas=Ramus dead asleep on her bed, and she took a picture of the whole cutesy scene.
She stepped out of the bathroom, happy to be rid of the smell of rain on her skin and replaced by the scent of fresh soap.
She slipped on a blue top and some jeans, and she went to the kitchen to make herself some hot cocoa, when she saw Ashiya standing next to the counter. Waiting for her.
This can't be happening.
How could she have forgotten that this, this broke guy also knows about the kiss?
She wanted to hang herself for being so stupid that she had let something like this to happen. Maou's stupidity must be really contagious.
Ashiya gestured for her to come closer, and before she knew it, her legs took her to her closet door. She took out her jar of cocoa powder, setting it on top of the counter. That's when she heard him talk.
"Please do not be wary of me, Hero Emilia"
She turned to look at him and crossed her arms, doubtful. He's obviously here to ambush her about what happened back in the mall, confirm if the kiss was real or not.
But, then, the grim look on his face softened, and he whispered.
"I have only something to ask of you"
A favor? She wanted to ask if he's not going to ask about the kiss. Did he lose some of his memories and now he doesn't remember a thing about it? Best to not remind him.
"Go on"
"What are your thoughts about my liege?"
Emi had never seen Ashiya this so direct. It made her nervous, especially from how he presented his question like he was accusing her of something.
She tried to act composed. She couldn't think of a good answer, but then, she didn't have to worry herself about it when he spoke again.
"Maou-sama has been different lately"
He unconsciously smiled to himself, as if he remembered something pleasant.
"I have no idea what happened that lead him to be like this, but if there's one thing I'm certain, this was all because of you"
So, it's really her fault? The more he talked, the more vague he sounded, and she has no idea if she should be flattered, or anxious about this. She's feeling both, actually.
He saw how uncomfortable she was getting, and he straightened himself up.
"He seems to be very fond about you. I cannot go against my master's wishes, as much as I don't like you-"
"The feeling's mutual"
"But, whatever happens, I'd like you to please consider the consequences of your future actions"
This she understands. It's not like she never even thought about it.
The Hero and the demon lord? They'll always be enemies. If people back in Ente Island learned about her feelings, things won't end well.
People like Emerada wouldn't stand for her doing all of this. No one will
But, she's also Emi Yusa. And, he's also Sadao MaouEven if it's wrong, she'll believe in him. If anyone opposes, she'll change all of that.
"I know that, so don't worry"
He started walking away, and before he left, she told him one last thing.
"You're worried about us, right?"
"Correction: I'm worried about my lord"
She faced him, and with a determined look in her eyes, she said.
"I've got something on my mind, too. But you won't like it"

Maou: He's back!
Ashiya: When will he stop! (Hugs Maou)
Emi: Pack your bags. He lives not far from here.
Suzuno: (sharpening a knife)
Meanwhile:
Sicnarf: Aww, my laptop broke again.
