Carrots and I were on our way back to the table in the living room after we had cleaned our forepaws in the bathroom. We sat down at the table - my partner took the right seat while I took the left. As soon as I rested on the chair with my ears folded and tucked behind my back, I felt my body release from its stiff position, collapsing onto the chair as if the strings of the puppet were cut. I blinked as I felt pulses in my ears as they pressed against the back of my head. I pondered why I hadn't put the noise-tuners in by now. And yeah, my ears still hurt, not from physical stress... but more from all the noise overload. My mother walked into the room with a pair of cups of water.

"Why don't I have the noise-tuners inserted again?" I inquired with a soft voice.

She shook her head as she put the cups down, "In that way, you're relying on them too much. If I recall correctly, Judith got her ears under control in less time than you did."

I scowled at her response. She wasn't wrong about that part - Carrots did suffer a head-splitting pain in her head when culprit attempted to escape. She controlled it within three hours after my mother inserted them in her ears. After that, this amnesia mammalian took them out and then tossed them back at my mother. I had worn those devices longer than she did. If I had to time it, I had them for four hours so far. Bah! My mother gave me a sly glance and smirk.

"Right now, you can easily control it without needing them, and soon, you will be able to deal with the noise like a regular mammalian," she added, turning away from me.

I released a small groan and glared at the spot where I had last seen my mother. My partner gave my shoulder playful jab. I wobbled to keep my sitting position straight then I gave her an anxiously glance and released a small growl at her. She chuckled at my small stage act. In my mind, I worked on making a strategy to help Carrots with timing and how to use the energy of her Night Sight. However, my mother's words were still fresh in my mind as I built up plans and strategies. Suddenly, I was in the alley where I found the grey vixen kneeling in front of the lamppost with her back to me, panting and huffing at her forepaws. In a flash, I was back in my mother's place, gawking at the table. I was now sitting straight instead of lounging like a dead puppet.

"Mmm," I sighed as I tried to figure why my mother's meaning.

I blinked as I started to connect the dots together: my mother suggested I think of something opposite to what I was doing with my ears. To summarize two problems; I had to keep the noise lower while Carrots put too much energy in her Night Sight. In this way, my mother wanted me to help Carrots to spend little of her energy so she wouldn't get exhausted quickly. That final piece of puzzle was now within my mind; I realized that my cop partner was exhausted by the time I reached her and had to snap her out of her astonishment. A small bowl was placed in front of me from my left, snapping me out of my deep thought and getting me to look at it. I saw my mother's left forepaw loosen up and withdraw from the bowl. The bowl was loaded with various fruits as I reflected on the morning I woke up as a rabbit. I was trying to figure out how I channeled the blockage in my ears back then.

"Hmm, ah!" the grey vixen murred beside me, following up by the noise of food being chomped down.

I flicked and winced slightly at that noise. I realized that my mother was right about not using the noise-tuners. For one illustration, I quickly pressed the inner sides of my ears against the backside of my head... and my torso. That muted the annoying noise almost immediately. My mother was telling me to rely on my natural instinct rather than on the devices all of the time. Just now, I recalled that I had to rely on my ears and memory of maps as I searched for Carrots in Nocturnal District. I continued to use that old way while I guided her back to the cruiser instead of using my newly developing sense; 'Nick's Green REU Sense'. I sighed and glanced at the bowl of fruit. I felt my partner glancing at me, which felt like she had to check on me due to my idling.

"Are you alright, Slick?" she asked.

I nodded, "Yeah, I am. All I needed to take care of the irritating noises was to close my ears downward."

"Ah... I don't think so. Not while you're in a danger situation like that time Manchas tried to eat us alive. You need to rely on your ears to get around," she counter-argued.

I sighed as I reached to grab a strawberry from the bowl. I glanced at it then tossed it into my open mouth and chewed it once I closed my mouth. I glanced at Carrots as I tried to figure out how to help her manage her energy. She had devoured her meal already and she propped her elbows on the table with her digits intertwined.

"How much energy should I use for my Night Sight?" the grey vixen asked, resting the right side of her muzzle on the back of her forepaws.

I held my breath, feeling a little shiver shoot through my backbone at her perfect timing to question my thought. I blinked as something came to my mind. There were only two good examples I could explain to her; the rented cruiser that she used and the strawberry that I just ate...

"Well, you gotta compare the size of the fruit to the bigger thing," I answered, finally finding a way to breathe again.

Her eyebrows furrowed together as her face changed into a stern gaze, "Like what?"

I blinked, turning my head towards her and stretching my arms out. I took a breath as I did so.

"The rented cruiser that you used yesterday. That's the energy you spent on your Night Sight. In that way, I used a very little bit of energy when I ate a strawberry, rather than spend all of it," I explained, almost hearing the gears in her head spinning, as if she was trying to understand my words.

I dropped my paws to my side and I could tell that she couldn't figure it out well, despite her hyperthymesia. I felt a paw on my left shoulder, drawing my attention to my mother. She was smiling at us as she took her paw off my shoulder.

"Once you finished your snacks, I would like you two to come with me to the room you haven't visited," she replied.

I blinked in confusion, "Hey, we are still exhausted from our training session—"

"This small training doesn't require muscle exercise, just mental exercise. All you need is to use your sense to understand the whole purpose behind this one," she said, cutting me off, as she moved out of my sight.

I turned my head towards the table with an astonished gaze; a gaping mouth and a pair of confused eyebrows. The grey paw suddenly grabbed the bowl in front of me and I felt her left arm wrapping my torso from behind. The next thing I knew, I was sitting on her lap, sideway with my left side to her, my arms hanging up as if to rest them on the rails, and my ears flipped away from my body in surprise. Since my ears were opening, I immediately winced slightly when pain shot through my head. I inhaled through my teeth, trying to calm myself and folded my ears onto the back of my head and torso. However with her right arm on my back, I also covered it with my ears. While I did that, Carrots glanced at me with a beam on her muzzle then looked at the fruit that she picked from the bowl.

"Say 'ah', Slick," she pleaded, which made me scowl at her.

Immediately I opened my mouth, she struck a grape into my mouth through the gape between my teeth. By the time I startled and closed my mouth, her digits were already out of my maw. She beamed brightly with her eyes closed. I slowly chewed the grape, trying to calm myself again while I rested my right paw onto hers and my left wrist behind her neck. I felt something cool against the end of my digits. Her amethyst eyes opened and turned to my face. Her mouth opened slightly, and her eyebrows wriggled. I blinked as I grabbed a fruit from the bowl then tossed it into her mouth - it was another strawberry. She closed her mouth and chewed on it, still beaming at me. She closed her eyes and pressed her nose against the left side of my muzzle lightly. I furrowed my eyebrows anxiously as she accommodated to this kind of closeness. I figured that she did her best to comfort me after a long morning. After a couple minutes of us exchanging fruits we had emptied the bowl. We got on our hind-paws and followed my mother to the room that we hadn't visited since we arrived here yesterday.

"Please make yourself at home in there," she encouraged, flickering her forepaws at the doorway to the dark room.

I pursed my lips as I stepped into the room with Carrots following behind. Once we were instructed to take our seats, my mother closed the door and the remaining light vanished as the door made a soft bang. If this was a creepy diner with four gigantic mammalians running around serving pizzas, a shiver would creep up my spine. I sighed as I lifted my ears to engage my 'Nick's Green REU Sense' and the green details of the room appeared in my sight. Since I went into the room first, I sat on the chair farthest from the door and Carrots sat on the chair between me and the door. I turned my head to her as she seemed to be focusing on getting her Night Sight turned on.

Reflecting on what I had learned, I proceeded to persuade her from straining herself again, "Ah, trying to use a little of your energy... oh, just turn it off."

She slightly flickered her head then sighed gently. I could see her eyes blinking and her lower jaw flopping, but she didn't produce any sound beside a gentle sigh. As for the ultrasound that I picked up, it was from the dishwasher in the kitchen next to this room. That explained how I was able to see anything in this room. Speaking of— this room should be the storage room stuffed with so many old things from Year 1960. Recalling how different size works, I had to pick different words or patterns to explain to my cop partner. And I just figured how to give her some idea.

"Ok, Carrots... Let's try to think of your Night Sight like your breath. Yes, just focus on it that way," I proposed a simple way to start her lesson.

While I watched her straighten her sitting position and take a deep breath, I could see my mother crossing her arms and smirking at us from beyond. I blinked, but it didn't disturb the green echolocation at all, and gently placed my left paw on her shoulder, trying my best to not break her focus.

"Slowly... slowly draw your energy into your Night Sight. Draw them as if you are taking a sip of your drink," I continued instructing her, just in time to see her eyes slightly opening.

She exhaled lightly then slowly turned her snout to me and smiled at me. I blinked again as she asked, "You can see...?"

"... Ah, yea. Actually, I can see with the echolocation," I answered, wondering why she asked that question.

I twisted my right ear to the open side of the room, which Carrots noticed and nodded in understanding. That allowed me to 'see' two directions at same time. I lifted my right forepaw to the room and exhaled lightly.

"Alright, lessee if you can pass this small exam I am setting up," I replied, starting the new lesson.

Like my partner had tested me with my hearing sense yesterday, I had to return the favor to her, but with her Night Sight. And I wanted to see if her memory was that insanely good to meed the conditions of my task. An hour since I started it I had tested her memory while keeping her energy and time as tiny as a rabbit claw. Since that day she suffered amnesia, she changed so much but she was still the same mammalian; Judy Hopps, that I knew. With amnesia added, the only thing that changed her was her personality.

"Okay. The session is over. Judith progressed very well with it. So, let's get out of here and have a noon meal," my mother declared, reaching for the door.

I quickly folded my ears and pressed the inner sides of my ears against the backside of my head and torso as soon as the door opened, letting hte light in and replacing my REU Sense with vision. We got off the seats and followed my mother back to the hall. Carrots and I returned to the table while my mother went back to the kitchen to make us meals. I sighed in dismay since I was no longer able to taste the meat.

Fortunately, my partner understood me well and spoke, "Ah, I hesitated on tasting the meat for the first time. It took me a moment to accept that I had to eat a meat sandwich back in the Nocturnal District."

"I see. But you're still on the lucky side, Fluff," I grunted, seeing that she adapted into her new species quicker than I did.

The salad bowl came to the table in front of me as my mother reminded me, "Well, it's because of her amnesia. That was the reason she adapted quicker."

I tilted my head left and right, rolled my eyes, and crossed my arms all at once. The dish of predator food was delivered to the grey vixen as she giggled at my scowling behavior.

"C'mon, you better get used to your new species sooner, otherwise you will want to sit on my lap and have me spoon-feed you," my partner jested.

I furrowed my eyebrows and growled at her as I reached to grab the fork. I started to eat while I felt my mother's eyes on me with a warm smile. That made me wonder why she was like that, but I wouldn't think that it would be pleasant to be on Carrots' lap like that again. Well, unless she needed to hold me like that time in Precinct Five. Once we emptied our meal dishes, I started to feel heavy, as if I was ready to go to bed.

"Since we had been in the lessons for a long time, I think that it's time for a small nap," I admitted, gently putting the fork in the empty bowl.

My mother collected the dishes and nodded her head, "You both better share the bed in order to keep you from breaking the peaceful atmosphere."

I snorted at her as I got on my hind-paws and walked with the grey vixen to my bedroom. Once we stood beside my bed, we glanced at it then at our bodies. I furrowed my eyebrows in disappointment as the idea of getting the bed dirty wasn't great in my book.

"Do you think we should get ourselves washed up?" she asked, noticing my gaze.

I nodded in agreement, "Yeah, but let's take it separate. You can have it first, if you wish."

She nodded and turned towards the door, taking her turn to shower. I focused on keeping myself from being overwhelmed by the noise until she came back, all fresh and clean. I picked up my clothes that I had worn last night and went to the shower to wash myself. And that felt nice after a hard work, to be honest. After I dried myself, I dressed in the night clothes and returned to my bedroom to see Carrots pulling the blanket to the foot of bed and tossing herself onto the mattress.

"Feel like a new bunny?" she teased, which got me scowling at her playfulness.

She laid on her side with her head on the pillow, facing me. I tossed my body onto the mattress in front of her and laid on my side with my back to her front and my head on the pillow, just below her giant muzzle. In that way, her right arm was under my neck. I tucked my ears between torsos along the way. I wasn't sure how easy it was to move those giant ears, but it was already second nature to me by now.

"Why don't you just lay on your back instead?" she asked.

I snorted, "And have you give me a heart attack? No thank you."

I felt her shrugging and sighing softly. Her left arm snaked over my waist and wrapped around my tummy then I closed my eyes. For some reason, I was unable to ignore the sounds, however, I found it relaxing to listen to Carrots' heartbeat. Perhaps my mother had the right idea for this method of 'sharing the bed' with my partner. I recalled a while ago when I was still a fox and she a bunny, I held her in my arms in the quiet undercover cruiser. Chief Buffalo Butt took all three of us out of Zootopia and the three of us were in the backseat. Three hours after my mother had the noise-tuners inserted into Carrots' ears, the latter wrestled them out and practically threw at my face. I gave them back to my mother and she tucked them in her purse for later use. I glanced at my partner and could see that she was now gripping my cop uniform with her left forepaw. Despite the irritating noise in her ears, she went back to sleep in my arms, but not without holding on to me to keep herself calm. She stayed like this a whole way to Bunnyburrow, but I didn't complain. Well, what I mean was that she didn't jump around and grind her teeth, but she was just lying in my arms, resting right there. That something different for a change. I turned my head to look at my mother and she reached and stroked my muzzle. It felt so real, even if it was just part of my memory… I slowly opened my eyes and saw my mother's head resting on her left forearm on the mattress just in front of my face as she stroked my rabbit muzzle. She had a dove-lovely gaze on her face at this moment. I blinked twice and she was gone by the time I was fully awake.

"Ah," I groaned, proceeding to yawn and stretch my body. My right fist went under Carrots' snout as it slid over the pillow.

That stirred her and the arm that rested over my tummy pulling off and I sat up on the bed. With the soft sound of Carrots' heartbeat echoing in my ears, I felt a very small amount of pain while they hung instead of being pressed against my head and torso. I slid off the bed, thumped onto my hind-paws, and turned to my partner as she sat up on my bed. She smiled at me with her forepaws between her thighs and I don't think I liked that smirk.

"I bet you like my heartbeat so much you conked out just like that," she teased, only to almost make me give her a permanently scowling face.

I sighed, raised my forepaw to my shoulder and jerked my reverse digit, signaling her to leave the bedroom. Once she was gone, I changed into more appropriate daytime clothes. Once I finished dressing, I left my bedroom and joined Carrots in the hall. She had also changed into the appropriate daytime clothes as well, but those were my mother's. Still, her earlier demeanor was still around, poking fun at me about the heartbeat and such. I groaned lightly as we entered the living room to join my mother.

"I see that you both feel better from your morning. So please take a walk around the block or two. Perhaps you could help her get a couple of her own clothes. I am aware that she's an independent and strong lady, but I would like you to help her out sometimes. So, git," my mother urged, gesturing at the front door.

I gave her a raised eyebrow while Carrots stepped towards the door and replied, "She means that I can't keep on borrowing her clothes as well as we need to get familiar with the social scene. We don't gotta stay away from the world and we are due to Precinct One by tomorrow morning."

I grumbled as I realized that they were right about the major details. The grey vixen and I left my mother's place and wandered down the street side by side. I wiped my nose with the back of my wrist as we approached the clothes shop - the shop that I couldn't get the name down pat anymore due to my focusing on keeping my ears from pulling my head into two. Even with my ears down and filled with Carrots' echoing heartbeat, I could hear almost everything surrounding me. At least I was glad that she reminded me of my quotation; 'Don't let 'em see you.', as it helped me stay calm despite a lot of noise. Ah, yes, the training that she helped me with yesterday and this morning had improved my grip on my hearing as well. I also heard a loud engine from behind us approaching, then it lowered to a hum and turned off immediately.

"Hey there, Hopps and Wilde," a familiar voice boomed behind us, causing us to turn around to see Officer Fangmeyer approaching us.

I smiled and gave her my sly salute, "Hello Fangmeyer."

She stood at least two and half fox bodies from us so we could see her full form without having to strain our necks. She crossed her arms and gave us a polite smirk.

"So, how's your change?" she asked.

I felt my partner's eyes on my head as I answered, "We are getting a handle on it now. By tomorrow, we will be in good condition. Knowing my mother, she will easily get us to keep our senses under control."

"Ah, that's good to know," the tigress nodded, untwined her arms, and moved closer to us. She got on her knees and wrapped us with her arms, one each.

As quickly as she hugged us, she left us and went back to her cruiser. I tugged my shirt, adjusting myself back to the comfortable atmosphere while the grey vixen crossed her arms and nodded. Suddenly, the black-striped predator reversed to me, giving us a focusing gaze.

"Oh, be sure to watch your back. There's a killer on the loose somewhere in this area," she called out.

I blinked as she got back in the cruiser. My left ear winced in reflex when my partner remarked, "I see that Fangmeyer is professional on the job compared to Nala."

For a minute, I was glad that my partner broke my thoughts on the killer. I shrugged and turned to the building, "Well, for your information, Giselle Graze Fangmeyer has been on duty longer than all three of us, including Nala Lucy Goldmuzz. But you're no different from Fangmeyer when it comes to the training and acknowledging, beside the experience. In this case, you have already surpassed her."

"Really?" Carrots exclaimed, walking with me into the clothes shop.

I blinked, "Yep. Did you check the drawer before we leave?"

I glanced at her face as she shook her head with a pair of apologizing eyebrows. I figured that the clothes that she currently wore were loaned by my mother until we got some clothes of her own… in her vixen appearance. I sighed as we trekked through the sections until we reached the small-sized animal section.

"Well, let's get at least one set of clothes just in case. If you need to know why I mention this, my mother suggested I help you out get them. Just any off-duty clothes you can find," I suggested.

She nodded, "Alright, one set of off-duty clothes would be sufficient."

I practically smirked at her new developing personality as we proceeded into the rabbit and canine section, filing through the shirts as we went. Along the way, I picked up a lot of indistinct chatter surrounding me. I paused at the hanger with lots of blue hued shirts and picked one with navy blue stripes. I glanced at it then blinked as I realized that I made a bad choice. I shook my head and hung it up. I blinked again, trying to clear my head of the indistinct chatter, and started a new conversation with Carrots on how well her mind was proceeding. We slowly approached a large storage box, which came up to my chest, that was loaded with old shirts at low prices. I hesitated as I looked over the stack of shirts in storage. That was when I suddenly picked up a new rumor from beyond. The voice was behind me from the right side. For some reason, that sounded clear compared to the rest of the chatter. The grey vixen glanced at me and noticed that my right ear twitched slightly. I realized that this rumor referred to me; 'There's a red rabbit?', 'Is he related to that wittle grey rabbit?', and stuff like tat. I glanced at my partner as I tried my best to remember all of her siblings at Bunnyburrow four months ago. I couldn't count them all.

"Do you have any siblings with red fur like mine?" I murmured to her. She blinked, glanced at the shirts in storage, and shook her head. She replied quietly, "I have several siblings that have orange fur, but they are not as red as yours."

I blinked as I tried my best to remember each and every sentence mentioned by that mammalian. One of them was like; 'Like… as red as… taking his pelt. Just watch me!'. Ah, at this point, I wished that I had hyperthymesia, like hers, to remember all those words clearly as a sunny day. The indistinct chatter was what distracted me while fear grew inside me. I slowly glanced at the grey vixen as she turned around and leaned her back on the storage box, acting casual.

While she glanced at the clothes behind me, pretending to not be in discussion with me, I replied to her softly, "It sounds like I am the first red rabbit in the city…"

I paused at that point, trying to pick up the next line from that mammalian. His tone sounded sadistic as I picked up the next line; 'Gotta bet… fifty zoollars just to rip him apart!'. That line alone made the blood in my veins cold and made me flinch with my pupils dilated in fear. Suddenly, my heart started to beat faster.

"Carrots…" I muttered to my partner as I recalled the cop outside the shop, trying to give her a clue to what was going on, "Let's send Fangmeyer a text… this mammalian's out for my pelt."

She gave me a quick nod then she attempted to turn around and pull her cPhone out at the same time. She thumped her wrist, the same one she held her phone in, on the edge to purposely drop her device into storage. She seemed panicked and put her forepaws in the storage. I glanced in another direction as I felt heat in my head. I exhaled through my nose quickly, trying to keep myself calm. I turned to the clothes rack that was placed to my left and walked to it. Once I reached it, I stopped and took a jade shirt from it to check out. I inhaled through my nose and exhaled through my mouth as I turned halfway and looked over my shoulder at the grey vixen. It was almost as if we were exchanging a message through different materials, which was the set of shirts. She lifted a green shirt and produced an Okay gesture on the shirt, but she made it look like she was analyzing it while she gave me a positive response. I waited until her amethyst eyes set on me and I winked at her. She made a quick tug into a smile and looked down at the storage. I turned my attention to the shirt I was holding.

"Not good," I muttered, insisting that I considered this shirt was a wrong choice, and put it back on the rack.

I turned back to the clothes storage with a forepaw on my forehead and walked back to the storage box. I sighed as I turned to the storage box and laid my forepaws on its edge. I could hear the hooves tipping on the floor from beyond. I could tell that those hooves belonged to an elk. For some reason, I was able to focus on a specific target this time and the indistinct chatters faded out as if they didn't exist at all. I blinked a I glanced at Carrots pulling a blue shirt from the storage. I slightly turned my head to her, seeing that she laid the shirt on her front, measuring its size. I was wondering what was up with her pulling this kind of stunt. I had forgotten how brave she was even before her amnesia. Suddenly, I felt a hot spot on my back, right in between my shoulder blades, and I started to feel scared. All the cool I had gained left posthaste. Her amethyst eyes darted to me then she threw the shirt into the storage box. I moved to her front, allowing her to slide her arms under my ears in an attempt to hug me. As soon as my muzzle collided with her left shoulder, I closed my eyes and my REU Sense came up in my sight. I could see the elk mammalian drawing out an air-pumped pistol from his trousers while he was standing between two middle-sized mammalian clothes racks appropriate for large wolves. I didn't understand why he wasn't aware that my partner already had seen him, nor that we were off-duty cops. I was sure that he would just kill both of us just for my pelt. I stiffened my hug around her as he prepared to aim his weapon at me… us, I mean.

Suddenly, his head turned then his body jerked and shook, releasing from my panic. I sighed on Carrots' shoulder softly, "Ah."

I could 'see' him being driven onto the ground and his face slammed onto the floor. That sound retreaded my REU Sense and I saw Giselle Fangmeyer's appear on top of him, wrestling the armed weapon from his fore-hoof. I finally understood why she was present - it was to capture this rabbit killer within the area, as she had once claimed. My partner and I were the bait to draw him out and we had him hook, line, and sinker. But still, that scared me enough that I would lose my fur if this continued. Something rubbed my back, which made me realize that the grey vixen was comforting me with her left forepaw.

"While you are a red fox, you hold it out like a boss. But when you are a red rabbit, you experience your first fear. I am sure you could understand the reason why I was like this when I tried to deal with… the savage jaguar…" she said, trailing off as we realized that she had recovered another slice of her old memories.

I softened my arms and pulled my head from her shoulder to look at her. While I did that, the green echolocation vanished and allowed my normal sight to take its place.

While we exchanged the astonished stare, I asked, "You remembered more of that case?"

"Yeah… especially that part where Manchas was attacking me. I also remember more details besides that, like cuffing him to the pole while he focused on attacking you. Even before that, we had to run away from him while he darted out of his house. And suspended in the air when the cops arrived. That just returned to me," she extended the details with a relaxed gaze on her face.

I blinked a I had just realized that the event in the shop triggered something in her and she recovered part of the biggest case in our life. Also, I noticed that she slowly sliced her old personality with her current one, proving that she was starting to act like her former self. I blinked as she pulled her forepaws from my body and glanced over my shoulder. I gulped and slowly turned around to see three giant mammalians standing there. I realized that they were Precinct One's cops; Officer Fangmeyer, Chief Bogo, and Officer McHorn. The funny thing is… I didn't hear them coming in, despite my hyperactive ears.

"Well, Wilde. That was a good move to call for the arrest. Who knew that your ears would come in handy like this?" the cape buffalo replied with his arms crossed.

I nodded, remembering all those mistakes Carrots had made in her days before having me involved. While she recovered from suffering amnesia and being at Bunnyburrow, I studied her files, which was the reason I made the choice to tell the on-duty officer to make an arrest. Thankfully for her new personality, it made her work for Precinct One much easier. It even met the cape buffalo's conditions as he wanted.

"So, I take it you both finally get your senses back together?" he continued, having the tigress and the rhino as his witnesses. I heard a beeping behind me and nodded, "Yes, sir. We got them under wraps and will continue to keep them stabilized upon our return to the precinct."

He nodded then waved his friends off and he left. I sighed and signaled Fangmeyer to come closer, which she did.

"Hey, Giselle… thanks for your earlier warning. Otherwise, the Chief would have a very messy situation to clean up," I informed the tigress, who knelt in front of me. She nodded, "Good to know that I got to you in time. So please enjoy your day off. See you at the precinct tomorrow."

I nodded as she got up and left. I sighed and turned to the grey vixen. She pocketed her cPhone and glanced at me. I nodded to let her speak.

"It was your mother. She entrusts you in my paws, beginning this evening," she explained, which was the reason I heard a phone beep earlier.

I lifted my paws face-up in the air and my face became a confused gaze. I couldn't understand my mother sometimes.

"And also, be sure to remember, we figured out that it was my heartbeat soothing your stress. She does not want us to lounge at her apartment any longer. So we have to get out of the nest and start to reinstall ourselves back to reality. Also, we are on the last day of our two-day vacation, so let's get to it as soon as possible," Carrots continued, suggesting that I think about our regular life.

I sighed, raising my paws higher and turned my palms to her in surrender. I turned to the same rack where I last stopped, dropped my forepaws to my sides, and reached for the jade t-shirt with shiny green triangles all over. That was the shirt I rejected earlier but now I changed my mind and accepted it. I monotoned, "Let's get that shirt you picked and laid on your che- er, torso then we'll go to pay for them. That way, we can go back to my mother to get our clothes prepared for our… date night."

"Hmm. That would be sufficient," she pondered then answered, reaching to grab the shirt she had tossed.

I raised my eyebrow at her response as we moved towards the cashier to pay for our shirts. We left the shop with shop bags. We walked back to my mother's place and went inside. Shutting the door, I opened my eyes and saw my mother laying small chest armor on my blue uniform. My partner's uniform was already arranged on the couch beside mine. I realized that she sent us out in order to get our uniforms cleaned without interruption.

"Ah, gee…" I nodded and muttered, which made my mother smile in response, "thank you for considering us. We will get a suitcase to put them in and then we are on our way."

My shoulder was slapped by the back of the grey vixen's forepaw, drawing my attention to her, as she spoke, "Your badge is on the drawer. You told me to remember where it is."

"Oh, yes. Thank you for reminding me," I replied as we jaunted to the hall.

Carrots went with my mother to the latter's bedroom for some reason. I went into my bedroom and went to my bed, where the suitcase sat underneath. I had to put in more effort to lift this suitcase since it was intended to be carried by a fox and put it on the mattress. I clicked it open then flipped the lid over. I moved to the drawers and pulled one of them that contained my young adult shirts, including a couple of button-down shirts. I heard the females coming into my bedroom. I glanced my partner, who was prepared to receive the shirts from me. I passed a couple of shirts to her and she put them in the suitcase. I noticed that she was wearing her newly purchased shirt. That explained why she went with my mother to change out of the borrowed shirt.

"I hope you don't mind the buttoned-down shirts. I had been into them when I entered adulthood," I explained.

She nodded as she packed my new shirt into the suitcase. She replied, "Sure. That would be sufficient."

I raised my eyebrow as I reached into the drawer to grab two more shirts. I wondered why she kept using that word; 'sufficient'. But I could worry about it another day, as I had to get stuff ready for tomorrow. A few minutes later our clothes lined up in the suitcase, leaving some room for the cop uniforms and the chest armor, we hauled the open suitcase and carried it through the hall. My mother was already back in the living room by the time we did this. With the suitcase set on the open seat of the couch, my mother helped us pack our uniforms. Once the suitcase was closed and latched, my partner and I received a motherly hug from my mother.

"I know that I had to stop you from being my tenants, but it doesn't mean I am preventing you from visiting me," she encouraged from she pulled from us.

I nodded, "Yeah, we will visit you sometime in the future. So, thank you for letting us settle at your place and for helping us out with our messy senses."

All three of us nodded at each other with a smile on each of our muzzles. My mother finalized, "Fare thee well."

With her gesturing at the door, Carrots and I left the building with our suitcase and flagged down a taxicab. Once we got in one, my partner gave the driver her address and we rode to her apartment. Upon our arrival, she paid the fee and we got out. I had to carry the suitcase on my back, holding its edge with my digits from beneath. It helped me to tune the noises out of my ears tucked between my torso and the suitcase as we walked towards the apartment. She reached the door and pushed it inward to let me go in first. My sight went dark when I stepped in the building.
