Ch 17 The Kraang Invasion
The two Earth Defense fighters along with the Futtokuran fighter flew out of the hangar bay and started toward New York City, a few moments later, the trio was joined by the EDC shuttlecraft. "Donnie," Raph called out over his communication's link, "Your shuttle has no weapons so stay behind us and stay low."
"Copy that Raph," Donnie responded.
"So where exactly in New York is this power cell?" Leo asked.
"Under a large stone slab in a place that was once called Washington Square," Donnie responded, "The Utroms planted it there after they rid Earth of Kraang Prime since it was one of the few places left standing."
"But it's surrounded by tons of rubble," Mikey muttered thoughtfully, "So just like last time when we went to the archives, we'll have to park some distance away."
"Okay," Leo said, "So we need to get to Washington Square and make sure the Kraang haven't had a chance to get there before us."
"And if they are there," Casey now spoke up, "Donnie, you and Mikey need to think of a way to stop them."
"How long till we reach the area?" Leo asked.
"It normally takes an hour to get there but since we're going at top speed, we should reach the area in thirty minutes," Donnie told him.
Raph huffed in annoyance, "Maybe sooner if you all would stop talking and just focus on…."
"Does anyone else see those lights coming at us?" Casey asked as he peered intently through the Kraang fog.
"Oh no," Leo muttered and the others were certain they could detect a small amount of apprehension in his voice.
"What is it Leo?" Mikey asked fearfully.
"Those are Kraang Stealth Ships!" Leo yelled, "The Kraang, they are here!"
"And it looks like there's more than one ship coming at us!" Casey yelled out.
"What?" Raph yelled back, "Casey! Evasive maneuvers, evasive maneuvers!"
"Everyone look out!" Leo yelled as he watched the front of the ship begin to light up, "It's getting ready to use it's laser rays!"
As the two stealth ships came at them, a lightning bolt suddenly shot out from the ship causing the four ships to quickly dodge in an effort to keep from getting blasted. Donnie forced the shuttle craft to keep on target as the stealth ships suddenly turned around and headed straight toward them.
"They're after the shuttle!" Casey yelled.
"Fire Casey!" Raph ordered.
"Take that Kraang chump!" Casey yelled as he and Raph flew toward the two ships with their lasers firing at them.
"Donnie, you and Mikey get to the power cell," Leo told them, "If there are two Kraang ships, there could be more and that means they could have already gotten to the Square."
"On our way!" Donnie responded and Leo watched through the dense Kraang fog as the shuttle flew toward the ground.
"Captain!" Raph yelled angrily, "I said I'm in charge!"
"Do you really think that's something we should be arguing about right now?" Leo demanded.
"Raph, on you're right!" Casey yelled.
"Casey, look out!" Leo yelled.
Raph quickly flanked his craft to the left as the Kraang stealth ship came up behind him on his right, "You're not getting me that easily alien scum."
Meanwhile, Casey maneuvered his craft around in an attempt to shake the second stealth ship, "Leo, do you know how to use the weapons on that Futtokuran fighter?" He asked as he dodged another lightning blast.
"Hold on, I'm still trying to get used to this thing," Leo told him as he looked over the console in an attempt to find the weapons system. There were only three buttons on the maneuvering stick and he decided to press one after the other, a smile of satisfaction crossed his lips upon seeing lasers blasting out from under the wings, "Got it!" He said triumphantly, he quickly flew to Raph's side, "Now let's bring them down."
"He's still on my tail!" Raph yelled.
"Mine too!" Casey yelled back.
"Hang on guys," Leo told them as he came up behind one Kraang ship, "I'm coming," As he lined up his target, he couldn't help but wonder why the rest of the Earth's defense pilots had not yet joined them, "Where's the rest of your men colonel?" He demanded as he fired on his target.
"We are still ten minutes away Captain," A voice called out over their radios.
Leo couldn't help but smile, "Usagi?" He said in surprise, "You're a pilot too?"
"I fight with my brothers to save Earth Leonardo-san," The rabbit responded, "Besides warrior, there is still much I would like to talk to you about as well as show you the dojo, I've been told you are well trained in the art of ninjutsu."
Leo flanked his ship to the right, "Yes, well..."
"Can we just concentrate on dealing with the Kraang and make dates for another time please!" Raph yelled, "And Usagi, you and the rest of the men, just get here!"
For the next several minutes, the sky was lit up with lightning bolts and laser blast as Raph, Leo and Casey attempted to keep the Kraang stealth ships from going after the shuttle. After several long minutes, they finally managed to bring the Kraang down several miles away from Washington Square.
"Well that takes care of those two…but look!" Casey yelled out.
"Oh no," Raph moaned as more stealth ships flew from the ground toward them, "There's more?!" He let out a low growl, "How?" He yelled to no one in particular, "How did we not realize they were getting past us?!"
"It's like I told you," Leo called back as he maneuvered his ship along with the other two to face off with the Kraang, "When the Kraang ships are cloaked, their signals cannot be detected."
"If four got past, then there's a probability more may have too," Raph wondered.
"That gateway is pretty large," Leo mused, "It is possible several could have gotten through without our knowledge."
"Well, I guess that's something we'll have to ask them," Casey stated angrily as he prepared to fire, "If we're lucky enough to bring them down."
The three fighters battled back and forth in an attempt to keep the Kraang from getting past them, but as they continued to fire, one thing became very apparent, "Raph, why aren't these guys going after Leo?" Casey wondered.
"I don't know Captain," Raph responded sarcastically, "Why don't you ask them?"
"It must be because I'm in the Futtokuran fighter ship," Leo said, "They must think I'm on their side so of course they won't attack me!"
"Great, we can use that to our advantage till the rest of the troops get here," Raph said, "Cover us and keep blasting!"
Leo smiled devilishly, "Aye, aye, Colonel," He said as he got one of the Kraang within his blasting sight.
While the fighters were lighting up the sky with their laser show, just below, Donnie and Mikey had landed the shuttle and were putting their gear on. They stepped outside and started toward the square with their weapons in hand and their eyes looking around making sure no mutant creatures were lurking about.
"Hopefully that's the last of the Kraang ships and they can take them down," Mikey said nervously as he pressed himself closer to Donnie's side.
"I don't get it," Donnie whispered, "Where are all the inhabitants?" He looked around the ruins, "Why aren't there any creatures coming after us?" He had just turned to look behind him when he felt Mikey suddenly grab his arm.
"I think I know why they're not here D," Mikey whispered hoarsely. Donnie turned to see what had Mikey stopping in his tracks, "It's because they already are." Mikey pointed straight in front of them where several Kraang droids were already at the square and pounding away at the slab in an effort to break it apart to get to the power cell.
"Once Kraang has destroyed that which is known as the block of slab, Kraang will be able to remove that which is known as the power cell and remove the field that surrounds the planet known as Earth." One of the Kraang stated as they continued to pound at the slab.
"They're almost through Donnie," Mikey whispered urgently as they slowly crept up on the Kraang.
"I know," Donnie removed his bo, "Just get ready to fight."
The two turtles slowly started toward the Kraang, "There's gotta be half a dozen of them D," Mikey whispered nervously as they moved from one broken building to the other in an attempt to get closer. He pulled out his nun-chucks and started twirling them.
"I know Mikey," Donnie muttered in clear annoyance as they made it to another large cluster of rubble; his hand shook nervously as he unbuttoned his holster and prepared his laser gun, "Just stay focused and follow my lead.' The two nodded toward each other and with a loud yell, jumped out from their hiding place and ran toward the Kraang. But before they could get close, the two found themselves immobilized a few feet from where the Kraang stood.
"Donnie!" Mikey cried out as he attempted to move, "What's going on? I can't move!"
"I…I don't know," Donnie replied anxiously as he watched two of the Kraang walk toward them with long silver laser guns pointed at them.
"Kraang has captured that which is known as earthling mutants," One Kraang droid said, "The gravitational ray will keep them that which is known as immobilized."
"Let us go Kraang freak!" Mikey demanded.
"Kraang refuses to allow that which is known as mutants to go that which is known as anywhere," The Kraang droid pointed the gun toward the two turtles.
"Guys!" Donnie called out to the others, "Were in trouble!"
"We copy that Donnie!" Raph yelled. He looked into the distance and could see several more lights heading toward them, "There's are people," He stated, "Leo, the Kraang won't go after you so go help them out, we'll take care of these two ships and anymore that come our way!"
Copy that Raph," Leo replied, "I'm on my way!" Leo maneuvered his ship to where Donnie and Mikey had landed the shuttle, 'Donnie and Mikey are too close to where the Kraang are,' Leo realized as he soared close to Washington Square, 'I can't fire so I'll have to land and try to free them some other way.'
As Leo continued his way toward land, Donnie and Mikey watched with fearful eyes as the Kraang finally broke through the stone slab, "Kraang has broken through that which is known as the slab of stone," The two turtles struggled in vain to release themselves as one of the Kraang disappeared into the tunnel beneath the slab and emerge several moments later holding a power cell, "Kraang has retrieved that which is known as the power cell," The Kraang droid held up a glowing tube for all to see.
"The Power Cell is ours," Another Kraang droid stated triumphantly, "The Power Cell!" The others chanted.
"That which is known as the field of force that surrounds that which is known as Earth is known as no more!" One droid came forward holding a metal sphere, "Begin that which is known as the signal!" One Kraang yelled out. Donnie and Mikey watched as the Kraang droid threw a metal ball in the air and began to spin rapidly. "That which is known as the beacon will transmit that which is known as the signal and alert the Technodrome to do that which is known as invade!" A sudden loud whirling noise had the two turtles looking upward.
As Leo slowly made his descent, a loud noise above had him looking up to the sky to see the other fighters coming from a distance when his eyes held another frightening sight, "Guys!" He watched as the Kraang began to scurry, "What the hell is that thing?!" He yelled, "It looks like a giant flying ice cream cone!"
"A what?" Mikey asked in puzzlement, "You know, one of these days Leo has got to show us all these things he keeps talking about," He muttered.
"Focus on the current situation Mikey...WOAH!" Donnie cried out as he and Mikey suddenly fell forward, "Were free!" They exclaimed. The two turtles looked up to see a large cone like ship coming into view.
"Kraang!" One droid yelled out, "It is that which is known as Triceratons! Kraang must do that which is known as running!"
"Oh no!" Mikey cried out, "It's the Triceraton Warship!"
"Triceraton Warship?" Leo looked from the large ship to them curiously, "Why do you make it sound like a bad thing? I thought they were on our side."
"The Triceratons are on our side," Donnie told him as they gathered their weapons, "But there's a small army called the Triceraton Republic that is against the treaty and that's their ship!"
"But they're still against the Kraang as well, right?" Leo looked up just as several ships suddenly detached themselves from the warship. He was just about to land when a laser beam shot out at him forcing him to put his ship back into the air, "What the hell?" Leo demanded, "They're firing at me?" He looked back at Donnie and Mikey and, seeing they had broken free, flew away from them, "You two find the Kraang, get the power cell back and find a way to bring the force field back up," Leo told them, "We'll try to find a way to keep all these aliens from taking over the world!"
High above the Earth, Raph, Casey and the rest of the pilots watched as a large metal sphere suddenly appeared high in the sky along with the Triceraton Warship and began flying toward them.
"What is that thing?!" Casey yelled out.
Leo turned as he heard Casey cry out, "It's the Kraang Technodrome!" Leo replied, "Raph, you and the rest of your fighters keep that thing from landing!" He yelled, "I'll be there in a moment to….ahhhhh!" Leo screamed out as he felt a large surge of energy suddenly go through his spacecraft. Leo slumped forward over his console as a wave of dizziness caused him to black out.
Out of the corner of his eye, Raph had seen Leo's ship blasted by one of the Triceraton's destroyers, "LEO!" He yelled and watched in horror as Leo's craft spiraled out of control and was now plummeting toward Earth.
