Authors note: Chapter 21. Thank you so much for reading my story! It really means a lot to me, and a lot of time goes into these chapters, so I'm really grateful that you keep reading this story (even if it takes me literal ages to update sometimes;)) And I also just wanted to mention that this is definitely not the best chapter I've ever written, but please be nice:)
Disclaimer: I do not own anything even remotely related to Supernatural, sadly:)
Chapter 21- Alpha And Omega
Sam, Dean and Valerie woke up in the abandoned power plant. Sam helped Dean stand, and Dean told him to go to Chuck, while Dean himself rushed to Castiel. Valerie followed Dean, but stayed a few feet behind him, so he had some space.
"Dean", Castiel said. Valerie's head whipped up, hearing by the tone in his voice that it was not Lucifer speaking.
"Cas? Is that you?", Dean said, holding Castiel's face between his hands.
"Lucifer is gone. Amara ripped him from my body", Castiel said, while Dean was making sure he was unharmed.
"To where?", Dean said, as he helped Castiel stand.
"I don't know", Castiel said. Valerie went over to Sam to help him with Chuck. Dean and Castiel followed her.
"Hey. Are you uhh…?", Sam said to Chuck as he kneeled next to him.
"H-how do you feel?", Valerie asked, kneeling down beside Chuck as well.
"You know when you're driving and a bug hits your windshield?", Chuck grunted in pain, "I'm the bug".
"So, what Amara said about you…", Sam said.
"Dying, yeah. Whatever she did to me, I can feel my light fade. And when it's gone…", Chuck said, sounding very weak.
"Okay, w-well tell us how to fix you", Dean said, and Valerie noticed how he was still supporting Castiel.
"You can't. I mean, I-I suppose maybe she could, but that's never going to happen", Chuck said. They heard the sound of a door opening, Chuck was clinging to Sam and Valerie as they all looked expectantly at the door, and in walked Rowena.
"So that was a gun in your pocket", Rowena said to Dean, who had drawn his gun.
"Well that was a complete and utter dog's breakfast, wasn't it?", Crowley, who had also arrived, said.
"I didn't know dogs had breakfast", Castiel said.
"Cas is back", Dean said.
"Just curious, has anyone bothered to look outside?", Rowena said. They heard a siren wailing in the distance as they all walked outside. Rowena tapped Dean on the shoulder, and they all turned around to look at the sky, which was bright red/orange, as if it was on fire.
XXX
They were all standing outside, looking up at the sky, which looked like it was on fire.
"What is it?", Dean asked.
"The sun. It looks like it's-", Valerie said.
"Dying", Castiel finished her sentence.
"Why would Amara do that?", Sam asked.
"The sun is the source of all life on earth, without it everything just… wastes away", Castiel said.
"Let's get the hell out of here", Dean said. Cuck snapped his fingers, and suddenly they were all back in the bunker.
"You", Crowley said.
"Still got something left in me. I'm not dead y-", Chuck said, but before he could finish his sentence, he collapsed against Sam again.
"Whoa, okay I got you", Sam said.
"I should probably go sit down", Chuck said, as Sam helped to a chair.
"What do we do now?", Castiel asked.
XXX
Sam, Valerie and Castiel followed Dean into the kitchen. As he grabbed a beer, Sam and Valerie looked at him with identical disapproving looks.
"I swear everytime you two do that, it gets freakier", Dean said, noting the identical expressions.
"Haha", Valerie said sarcastically, sitting down on a chair by the kitchen table. Dean took a long sip of beer.
"Really?", Sam asked.
"Really", Dean said, Sam shook his head.
"What? We hit Amara with everything we had and she walked it off", Dean said.
"So…", Sam started.
"So it's last call?", Valerie finished.
"That's right", Dean said, taking another sip of beer.
"Look, man. If you've got something for me to punch, shoot, or kill, let me know and I'll do it. I'll do it till the day i die. But how are we supposed to fix the friggin sun?", Dean continued. Dean slammed the now empty beer bottle down on the table.
"You know what? This isn't gonna be enough, I better make a run. No reason to die sober, huh?", Dean said, sighing he turned to Sam, "you want to?".
"No!", Sam said, frustrated.
"Be right back", Dean said.
"We will stay here, figure out our plan B", Sam said, nodding at Valerie, who had been silent during the brothers' exchange.
"Okay. Cas, come on", Dean said.
Suddenly, Rowena walked in.
"Teapot?", she asked, and the others were just looking at her, dumbfounded.
XXX
Sam and Valerie walked into the library.
"Samantha!", Crowley exclaimed, raising a bottle from where he was seated.
"W-what are we doing?", Sam asked.
"Nothing", Rowena said.
"Exactly", Sam said, raising his voice, "Amara is out there eating the friggin sun an-and were doing nothing!", Valerie put a hand on his shoulder to calm him down.
"You have a better idea?", Crowley asked.
"Yes! Anything. Anything is better than doing nothing", Sam said, frustrated.
"Sam. I get it. Even if we could lock Amara away, it wouldn't do any good now. I'm dying. And when I'm gone, a cosmic balance between light and dark— it's over", Chuck said.
"All right", Sam slammed the table, making Valerie jump, "if we can't cage her, we have to kill her", he looked at Valerie apologetically.
"Bingo", Crowley said.
XXX
Sam had called Dean and he and Castiel had returned to the bunker. Valerie took a quick look at Dean to confirm her suspicion that he and Castiel had gotten the chance to talk things out.
"Wait so now you wanna kill the Darkness?!", Dean asked after Sam had told him their plan.
"Look, Chuck is dying… no offense", Sam said, the last part directed at Chuck.
"No it's fine. I am dying. So we don't really have a choice. I mean, look. You've got darkness and light. You take one side away a-and-", Chuck said.
"-It upsets the scales - the whole balance of the universe", Castiel continued.
"Exactly. But you take both sides away, the scale is empty so…", Valerie said.
"Of course. There's balance", Castiel said.
"Right. Yes. Okay. Uh, and look. Hey, I'm game, but how exactly are we gonna do this? I mean, Lucifer hit her with a-a Hand of God and, well, we saw how that turned out", Dean said.
"Yeah", Sam said.
"She does seem impossible to destroy", Castiel said.
"Right. Is she, Chuck?", Valerie asked.
"Well… I mean, well… I… I-I", Chuck sighed and looked as if he was about to collapse.
"Chuck!", Dean and Castiel said simultaneously.
"All right, fine", Chuck sighed, "The Darkness might- might have a weakness… Light", he went over to Crowley and took the bottle he was holding.
"Now he tells us", Crowley said sarcastically.
"What? I just wanted to trap her. I didn't wanna murder her", Chuck said.
"Okay, but exactly how much light are we talking here?", Sam asked.
"I don't know, about 10.000 suns set to supernova give or take", Chuck said.
"Well you're God. So just God 'em up", Dean said.
"Dean, look at me. I'm not in the best shape right now".
"Okay. Uh, that's all right. Uh, we just need other ideas. Um...Rowena. What about the Book of the Damned?", Sam said.
"This is beyond…", Rowena scoffed.
"Okay, Crowley?".
"Oh I got nothing", Crowley said.
"Well, what about souls? They fuel your demon deals. Souls are living batteries. They're full of energy. They're full of light. Each one is as powerful as...100 suns?", Castiel said.
"Okay, so if we got this kind of juice, then what?", Dean asked.
"You get me enough souls… I can build a bomb", Rowena said.
"Would that do the trick?", Dean asked, turning to Chuck.
"Uhh… maybe?", Chuck said.
"Alright, plan B", Valerie said.
"So, exactly how many souls are we talking about here?", Dean asked.
"The more the better", Rowena said.
"Even if you could get that kind of firepower, what makes you think it will work?", Crowley said.
"I can ask the angels. Heaven is full of souls", Castiel said.
"Okay, uh, what else do we got?", Sam asked.
"Ghosts? I mean, they're just souls with baggage, right?", Valerie asked.
"Yeah, but we would need a whole lot of them", Sam said.
"Waverly Hills", Dean suddenly said.
"Waverly Hills Sanatorium", Valerie chuckled, "of course. Thousands died there".
"Ton of ghosts", Dean said, fist bumping Valerie, earning a slight shake of the head from Sam.
"This is desperate...and stupid", Crowley said.
"Well, desperate and stupid's pretty much all we got right now, so…", Dean said.
"Fine. I'll go raid Hell and see what's left", Crowley put his feet up on a table.
"All right", Sam clapped his hands, "Let's get to work".
XXX
Sam, Dean and Valerie were standing outside of Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
"Really think this is gonna work?", Valerie asked.
"Well, Rowena said it would", Sam answered, seeing the look of distrust on Valerie's face.
"Oh. Yeah", Dean said, then he switched to a scottish accent mimicking Rowena, "It's a Book of the Damned spell, boyos. Take this wee crystal. It'll suck up all the blimey ghosts. Just say the magic word", Valerie laughed at him and Sam just shook his head.
They were walking through the halls of the sanatorium, when they saw a ghosts appear and then disappear.
"Place really lives up to the hype, huh?", Valerie said.
"Yes it does", Dean said. They walked further into the sanatorium and entered a large room.
"Let's give the magic word a shot, because we're six. All right. Let's bust some ghosts", Dean said annoyed, while Sam layed down a salt line around the perimeter.
"Where the heck are they?", Dean asked after looking around for a moment.
"You got me", Sam said.
"Get your Casper asses out here!".
"You know what? Why don't you two finish up?", Valerie said, tossing the canister with salt to Sam, who caught it with surprise, "I'll go piss off the ghosts".
"Okay", Dean said.
Valerie was walking through the dark halls of the abandoned sanatorium.
"Okay, well this is officially the stupidest thing I've ever been a part of", she said to herself, "you know what? Nevermind, I have done more stupid things", she paused for a second, to look into an exam room. "Good God that's terrifying", she said, quickly leaving the creepy room, "and now I'm talking to myself, great".
Dean was laying down salt, when a ghost came up behind him. Sam threw salt at her and she disappeared.
"Guys!", Valerie yelled from the hallway, where she was shooting the ever growing amount of ghosts with rock salt, "I think it worked!".
"Haha!", Dean exclaimed.
They were now all in the room, fighting off the ghosts with guns and iron rods. As Dean tried to get the 'bomb' from the bag, a ghosts went at him, which sent the bomb sliding across the floor. A large ghost suddenly grabbed sam by the throat, starting to choke him. Before Valerie could help him, another ghost threw her up against the wall, making her drop her gun.
"Dean! Say the magic word!", Sam said, struggling.
"Dean hurry!", Valerie yelled.
Dean finally got a hold of the bomb and tossed it into the air.
"Haggis!", he yelled. The ghosts released their hold on Sam and Valerie before morphing into balls of light and disappearing into the bomb, which was filling with more and more ghosts.
"Go magic word", Sam said, breathing heavily.
"Huh", Valerie said, also panting.
"Yeah", Dean said.
They quickly left the sanatorium after that.
XXX
Everyone was sitting in the War Room looking dejected.
"The angels are- Heaven won't help", Castiel said.
"They know this is basically the end of everything, right?", Dean asked.
"Yes".
"And they don't care?", Sam asked.
"No that's not it- it's… They know that God is dying. they don't think we can win this, with or without souls. They're sealing heaven, and they're 'dying with dignity'", Castiel answered.
"Well that's awesome", Dean said.
"All right. Crowley what about you?", Sam asked.
"Well, I had all the souls we needed", Crowley said.
"Had? What do you mean had?", Valerie asked.
"While I was indisposed, a few of my demonic pals decided to raid my stash.", Crowley said.
"And the ones we do have, aren't enough", Castiel said. Suddenly, the electricity buzzed and the red lights went on all around the War Room.
"Well that can only be good news", Crowley said sarcastically. They all take out their weapons, turning to aim at the door on the upper level of the War Room. They heard footsteps, and suddenly Billie walked in.
"Nice digs", Billie said.
"Billie?", Sam asked.
"I'm sorry, who's Billie?", Valerie asked.
"Reaper. Wants us dead. Tons of fun", Dean said. That last part sarcastic.
"Oh so you just neglected to mention that to the person you have been living with?", Valerie said, slightly offended.
"Sorry", Sam muttered, while Valerie just shrugged.
"Crowley", Billie said as she walked past him. Crowley smirked at Billie addressing him, then he turned around and looked sheepish as he saw the other look at him questioningly.
"So, what now?", Castiel asked.
"Well, now we have the bomb, so we just got to find Amara", Dean said.
"I can track her. She's not warded anymore. Why would she be? She won", Chuck said.
"Okay, so?", Dean said.
"We need somebody to get close to her, someone with a... personal connection", Castiel looked very uncomfortable saying that, as everyone turned to look at Dean, who looked apologetically at Castiel.
"Well, what are we waiting for? How do I smuggle this thing?", Dean asked after getting an approving nod from Castiel.
"Well you could always shove it up your-", Crowley started to say.
"Hey", Dean said.
"Well you could".
"You won't carry the bomb. You'll be the bomb. I'm gonna take what's in there...and put it in here", Rowena said, placing her hand on Dean's chest. "Once you get close to her, all you have to do is press your fingers together, and boom". Sam and Valerie shared a distressed look, before looking back at Rowena and Dean.
"Okay", Dean said.
XXX
Rowena was saying some sort of incantation over the bomb, which was in her hand. She pushed her other hand towards Dean and the bomb. A stream of bright light hit Dean's chest for several seconds, making him hunch over and grunt in pain.
"Huh!", Dean said.
"Dean! Are you okay? How do you feel?", Castiel asked.
"Like my insides just got flame-broiled. Is that normal?", Dean asked.
"Oh we're so far past normal, honey", Rowena said, "You've got about an hour, maybe a wee bit more, then you're literally a walking ticking time bomb".
"Awesome", Valerie muttered, starting to feel stressed.
XXX
Sam and Dean were standing by their mothers gravesite, a distance away from the others. Valerie couldn't hear what the two brother were saying, but when Dean rejoined the group, she saw Sam press his hand to his lips, then to his mother's gravestone.
"You cool with this?", Dean asked Chuck, who was being supported by Rowena. Sam joined them, and Valerie extended a hand, which he took, she squeezed his hand briefly and then let go, turning her attention back to the others.
"-She's still my sister, my family", Chuck was answering Deans question, "I-I don't want to see her dead, but… I understand".
"Dean", Castiel said.
"Cas", Dean said. Castiel approached Dean and pulled him into a hug, which Dean accepted, looking very sad.
"Okay. Okay. All right", Dean said, patting Castiel on the back.
"I could go with you", Castiel said.
"No, no, no. No I gotta do this alone", Dean said. Then he turned to Valerie.
"Oh come on, Princess, don't be sad", Dean said, punching her arm lightly, making her chuckle.
"I'm not sad. I actually can't wait to be free of your dumbass jokes", she said. They laughed lightly for a few seconds, then they went silent. Dean looked at her for a moment, then he pulled her into a hug. She stood on her toes and buried her face in his neck, while he put his hand in her hair. Before they pulled away, Dean said to Valerie; "Listen, if- when- this works, sam- he's gonna be a mess. So look out for him, okay? Make sure he doesn't do anything stupid, you understand me?", Valerie nodded against his shoulder, "good", then they pulled away, and Valerie wiped a few tears from her face.
Dean placed a hand on Castiel's shoulder.
"Thank you for everything", Dean said to Castiel.
Sam came over to them.
"Okay, look. I want a big funeral. All right? I'm talking epic. Okay? Open bar, choir, Sabbath cover band, and Gary Busey reading the eulogy", Dean said to Sam.
"You got it", Sam said, looking devastated.
"And for my ashes, I like it here. Yeah. You know, as far as eternal resting places go", Dean looked around, then he reached into his pocket and pulled out the keys to the Impala. He hesitated for a second, collecting himself, before walking over to Sam, who shook his head with tears in his eyes.
"Come on man, you know the drill. No chick flick moments", Dean said. Sam reached for the keys, but pulled back, he put his head down for a moment, then he sniffed and took the keys.
"Yeah you love chick flicks", Sam said.
"Yeah you're right, I do. Come here", Dean pulled Sam into a tender hug. After a few seconds, they pulled away and collected themselves.
"Okay, let's do this", Dean said, turning to Chuck. Valerie went over to Sam, who put an arm around her to find support, which she happily provided by leaning her head against his shoulder. As Sam, Valerie and the others watched, Chuck snapped his fingers, making Dean disappear.
XXX
Sam, Valerie, Crowley, Rowena and Chuck pulled up to 'The Lazy Shag' bar/restaurant, which had a closed sign hanging on the door. As they got out of the car, a man walked by them holding a sign that said 'The end is near'.
"He's not wrong", Crowley said as the man passed them. Crowley looked at the sign on the door of the restaurant.
"Oh come on. One little apocalypse and they decide to close up shop. Quitters", he said. Then he snapped his fingers, and the door swung open.
"Your round, Moose", he said, motioning at Sam.
XXX
They were in The Lazy Shag watching television, where the news anchor was telling people not to panic and to stay inside.
"Boring", Crowley said, snapping his fingers, turning off the tv.
"He looks horrible", Castiel said, nodding at Chuck.
"Hey, Chuck. How are you holding up?", Sam asked, walking over to where Chuck was sitting.
"Oh aces", Chuck said sarcastically.
"You know we, um… we need you to hang on just a little bit longer", Sam said.
"I know. I'm trying", Chuck said.
"I'm gonna go get you some water", Sam said and walked over to where Valerie was standing.
"He looks like shit", she stated, which made Sam utter a slight chuckle.
"Yeah", he said.
"So, how are you feeling?", Valerie asked, looking up at Sam.
"We can deal with how I feel after Amara is dead and the sun is saved", Sam said, closing the discussion. When he turned to walk back to Chuck, he saw that Chuck had disappeared.
"Chuck?", he said.
"Chuck?!", Valerie joined, then she looked at Sam, "he's gone".
XXX
They all suddenly noticed sunlight beaming through the windows of The Lazy Shag, so they ran outside.
"He did it", Valerie muttered.
"He bloody did it", Rowena said.
"And Dean?", Castiel asked. Sam put his head down knowing what it meant.
XXX
Sam, Valerie and Castiel entered the bunker.
"Sam I'm so sorry", Castiel said.
"Yeah, if you need anything we're here", Valerie said, putting a hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Hello, hello", they suddenly heard a woman's voice say. Valerie took a step back, bumping into Castiel, and before any of them could do anything, the woman had pressed her hand against the angel banishing sigil
on the wall, and Valerie, who was standing a little too close to Castiel, was knocked out. The last thing she saw was a flash of light and Sam yelling her name, then everything went black.
Authors note: Halleluja! I finished it! I just want to say that i'm not gonna focus on Dean and Cas a lot, because this story is not about them, so I hope you're okay with that:) And we're(finally)done with season 11! We are now heading into season 12, which will be… interesting, to say the least:) Until next time y'all!
