AN: Some small changes were made to the last chapter following a review regarding the forced orgasm scene. I re-read it and felt that maybe it wasn't very clear how much Ana enjoyed the power exchange/punishment. It was definitely a 100 percent consensual encounter that both parties enjoyed despite the fact limits were pushed to the edge.
Chapter Twenty
Ana nervously sat in the mahogany wooden chair eyes on the Prime Minister. She was here for a telling off, she knew that and as always the PM was staring at her, her blue eyes piercing, the anger obvious in her face and rigid body. Ana tried not to appear as scared as she was, the PM could always unnerve her. She wiped her sweaty hands on her skirt, hoping this wouldn't take too long because she just wanted to get out of there. The PM sat on the edge of the desk, eyes scanning Ana, purposely trying to make her uncomfortable. This was horrendous.
"I don't like being embarrassed." She started, her voice stern. Ana gulped, maybe this would be ten times worse than she'd anticipated. "It was hard enough seeing you on Question Time going against everything we had agreed upon in Cabinet, but then you did try to recount a little, and after the terrorist incident in Liverpool and the public perception of you I had very little choice but to let it go."
Ana bit at her bottom lip, she was breathing uneasily. The energy in this room was suffocating. This was bad, she could tell, the Prime Minister was furious! The woman gripped at the edge of the mahogany desk, her knuckles turning white as though she was trying to stop herself lunging at Ana. Ana looked down at the skirt of her dress and picked at imaginary lint.
"Then I have to put up with a member of the bleeding fucking hearts party using what you said against me in the most public way." Her voice was low, threatening. "Do you know what the papers are saying about it?"
"Yes Ma'am." Ana replied she did as Kate had filled her in before they'd come here. Kate who was now sitting quietly in the back of the room with the PM's private secretary keeping notes on the conversation while doing everything she could to not draw any attention to herself.
"Why did you do it?" She asked.
"Well…" Ana took a deep breath, she hadn't been expected to have to give an explanation. "I guess there's a personal story there for me." She said, it was actually Christian's story but she wouldn't tell her that. Plus, she'd met the lady at the shelter who had benefited so much from the rehabilitation that she's been ordered to do by the court. "I guess, I know that the rehabilitation isn't successful for everyone but then I know that it is for some, and shouldn't we be thinking of them? Those who actually transform their lives?"
"But the budget Ana. The money isn't there if we're going to reduce the country's debts." The Prime Minister replied. "I vowed when I came to office that I would reduce the deficit and while it's lower than it's been in a decade my work is not done. Our work."
"I can only apologise…" Ana started but the PM's hand went up, stopping her in her tracks.
"You took a vow when you joined the Cabinet Office, one of those being Collective Responsibility. Yet, you publicly humiliate the Cabinet with your words on national tv and then it comes back in the House." The PM was on a roll and she was not going to let Ana interrupt her now. "If it was to be seen as though I allowed my Ministers to do and say whatever they wanted Collective Responsibility would fall apart and I would be seen as the Prime Minister with no control of her Government. The press would have a field day and the opposition would have something new to throw around. The biggest risk is that it would destroy public confidence in me and the Government. For that reason Ana…"
Ana knew what was coming and cast her eyes down, she didn't want to look at the woman at this moment. She was devastated.
"I no longer want you in my Cabinet."
And there it was, Ana was being fired. She nodded slowly, there was nothing she could say in response. Everything the Prime Minister had said was true and she knew this was the only possible outcome. The truth was she'd have done exactly the same in the PM's shoes. She'd have even probably done it sooner.
"You have a long and bright career ahead of you in this Party if you want it Ana. It's no secret that people have had their eyes on you to take over as leader of the Conservatives one day. However, I cannot have you undermining the Government and do nothing about it. Therefore, I will report that you have been asked to step down as the job had become too much after the terrorist incident. I will make it clear that there is a possibility of a future Cabinet Position if you want it and then if you can prove yourself by the next reshuffle I may decide that there is room for you in my Government once more. But you have to prove yourself to me and the rest of the Party Ana. You will need to step up your public appearances and make sure you spread the Government's message. Otherwise, we may have to talk to your constituency about a vote of no confidence."
Ana gawped at the Prime Minister. She'd just been fired from her Cabinet position, basically demoted and now she was being threatened with her job as an MP! How dare she do such a thing! It wasn't up to her who were Members of Parliament. It was up to the constituency who elected their representative and she had worked had to build a good reputation for herself in the local constituency party. She was even reaching a broader consensus with her activism and was seeing Labour voters turn to her. If anything rewarded she should have been because they were staring down the barrel of an increased majority!
"You can go." The Prime Minister said realising that Ana wasn't going to respond to her. It wasn't that she didn't want to, but she didn't know how. What on earth was she supposed to say? Saying nothing was better than saying something she would regret that was for sure.
Ana stood and gave the Prime Minister a curt nod before turning on her heels, as she went for the door her eyes caught on a picture hanging on the wall. Her eyes widened and she spun back to the Prime Minister who looked at her, waiting to hear what it was she wanted to say seeing as she'd turned back into the room so quickly.
"Prime Minister?" Ana started nervously. "Why do you have a picture of yourself and Christian Grey on the wall?" She asked her voice shaking, betraying her, she wanted to appear confident but was failing miserably.
"Ah your uh… boyfriend?" She spat the word boyfriend out as if it disgusted her and Ana frowned. "Yes, Christian and I go way back." She shrugged and Ana frowned, Christian appeared very young in the photograph and he'd never mentioned knowing the Prime Minister to her. "You two…" She looked over at Kate and her own Private Secretary. "This is personal get out."
Ana turned and looked, the PM's secretary left immediately but Kate hesitated, there was concern on her face because she knew that Ana shouldn't have a single conversation with the Prime Minister that wasn't recorded by her, there were too many risks. Ana needing to know what the Prime Minister was going to tell her gave Kate a small and reassuring nod, she wouldn't tell her with Kate in the room and so Kate needed to go.
The door closed with a click and Ana turned back to the Prime Minister, unsure if she wanted to hear what was going to come out of her mouth but still she needed to, her intrigue was getting the better of her.
"Are you taking care of him?" She asked, Ana's eyes widened, she wasn't sure what she was getting at. Did the Prime Minister know of Christian's sexual preferences? Was that what she meant?
"I believe so." Ana said quietly, she did try to take the best care of Christian, as much as he would let her anyway.
"He's had a hard time in life." Elena stated, Ana looked at her, there was a softness appearing on her face that Ana had never seen before. She had a soft spot for Christian! Why thought? What made him different from everyone else she corresponded with in life.
"I'm aware of his past." Ana replied dryly, did Elena Lincoln really think that Christian hadn't shared all of that with her? Did she not understand that it was why she was against the magistrate's powers Bill that had just got her fired?
"I'm sure." She nodded giving a wry smile. "Just don't be surprised if it doesn't work out well between you, Christian doesn't do relationships, he doesn't do love. You come across as the type of girl who wants true love and a happily ever after. Christian won't be able to give you that, he won't want to."
Ana couldn't believe it. Her eyes were wide with shock as she glared at the PM trying to figure out what on earth her game was. Elena didn't do anything without a game or plan. What did she want to achieve by telling Ana this?
"Christian loves me." Ana shrugged, regaining her composure. She was not going to let this woman's words upset her. She knew Christian loved her, she was certain of it.
"Christian doesn't know what love is." Elena replied firmly. "Has he said those words to you or is it just how you feel?"
"He tells me all the time and shows me." Ana stated, a small smile playing on her lips as Elena's face fell. "Christian adores me." She added, deciding to rub salt into the wound. "How do you know him anyway?" Ana questioned, seeing as she was taking such a keen interest in his relationship with Ana it was only right she knew why.
"I took him in when he was fifteen, he was homeless, I loved and cared for him as though he was my own son." Elena explained, Ana gave a nod, the penny not quite falling. "Right you can leave now." Elena said, feeling this conversation was over. Ana gave another small nod and turned on her heels again, the door practically calling her name. As she reached it and her eyes once more fell onto the smiling photo of her love and the Prime Minister the penny hit the ground with a clatter. She took him in when he was fifteen… the woman who took Christian in when he was fifteen introduced him to BDSM, made him her submissive.
Ana swallowed the bile that rose in her throat. The woman who had molested and abused the love of her life when he was a child was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Holy shit, the PM was a child abuser!
She flew out of the office, her long legs carrying her as quickly as they could, she was on autopilot. The person in charge of opening the door grabbed it, seeing Ana coming they knew she was running out and allowed her to leave without pausing to wait for it to be opened in its usual slow manner.
Kate was hot on Ana's heels, running in her stilettoes to catch up with her friend. What the hell had happened in that office when she hadn't been there to send Ana running?
She barely made it onto the pavement outside the gates of Downing Street before she started to heave and choke, the bile threatening to come out.
"Fucking hell Ana." Kate said rubbing her back as she leant against a corner, her head down towards the ground. "What the hell did she do to you?"
"Just said I was no good for Christian." Ana replied breathlessly. "Said he'd be better off if I left him." She didn't like bending the truth but she had to, she couldn't tell Kate or anyone else that the PM had sexually abused Christian when he was a child.
"Jesus, right come on let's get you home. You need to prepare your press statement for your firing." Kate said gently. Ana had forgotten she'd just been fired too. That was a bitter pill to swallow, especially now she knew the Prime Minister's connection to Christian. Her head was spinning violently, she needed to speak to Christian but then again, he hadn't told her himself. He'd always avoided telling her the name of the person who had taken him in and abused him. Maybe now wasn't the time to tell him, she needed to figure it out for herself before she confronted Christian with the truth. Elena Lincoln, the Prime Minister had molested him as a child.
