The thought of feeling like she didn't fit in was something that she hadn't felt since her time as a kid because it was the same wasn't it? She felt the same as she did back then as she did now and that was something she loathed. Ever since the meal Peter had noticed that she had seemed a lot more distant, she was inclined on pushing him away and he did have a slight inkling that his family's harsh words resonated deep within her. He just wished she would speak to him because after all, he wasn't a mind reader. The thing was that the pregnancy no doubt enhanced everything, enhanced her emotions and enhanced her paranoia to the point where she was starting to think that she was no good for this baby but he was there making sure she was reassured making sure that she was eating and keeping her strength up and that he was there when she wanted to talk which hadn't been much since the meal which was almost two weeks ago now.

He hoped today would bring some happiness into her life, some well-deserved truth and understanding of the surroundings she was in. They were having their twenty-week scan he could tell she was excited to be finding out the gender but she had lost that sparkle which she once had and all he could put it down to was that family meal.

"I look so fat" she moans turning to her side and looking in her full-length mirror

"You look pregnant" he smiles, she sighs biting her lip "You also need to go maternity shopping"

"Well, I was thinking-"

"Now that can only mean one thing-"

"Oi," she lobs a cushion towards him "Anyway after I was rudely interrupted I was thinking we could go shopping after? Pick up some bits and bobs for the baby?"

"Yeah if you want, if you're not too tired" he smiles, she nods "Any movement yet?"

"No" she bites her lip internally worried at the fact the baby hasn't moved yet "From one of those leaflets I read it can be between sixteen and twenty-four weeks so we still have a month to go"

"Everything will be fine," he tells her knowing she was worried about it, the thing with Carla was that she was a worrier she worried about everything and he knew that some gentle reassurance wouldn't go amiss

"I know it will" she whispers, he grins sliding out of bed, she smirks taking in his appearance "You're making me want to get back in that bed with you"

"You can't keep your hands off me at the moment can you?"

"No" she sighs "Another thing this baby is doing to my body, making me want to have sex all the time"

"Fine by me" he smirks, she grins shaking her head "Now that you're ready I can get ready"

"Be quick about it otherwise I'll pin you to the bed and undress again"

They finally managed to get out of the door after eating breakfast. They were waiting in the waiting room and Carla was actively flicking through a magazine which was just annoying Peter as they were both quite nervous. He knew that she had to distract herself and that was fine but the constant page flicking and the sounds of the plasticky paper were driving him up the wall he snapped and confiscated it from her and she teased him relentlessly about his weird obsession with hating magazine paper. By the time they finished their petty squabble about the paper, they were both called in and on impulse, Carla sat up on the bench which was provided.

"Shall we have a little look then?" Susan smiles, Carla nods eagerly flinching as the cold gel was placed on her stomach "Sorry"

"It's fine" Carla flashes her a smile as their baby comes into view on the screen "Woah it's so much bigger from the last time I saw it"

"Yeah it'll grow a bit quicker now, I'm going to take some measurements and then enter them onto the system"

"Ok" Carla nods slightly turning to Peter who had tears in his eyes "You soppy beggar"

"Stop it" he chuckles weaving his fingers in and out of hers, playing with her hand "We made that, I still can't get over it"

"Well you're going to have to in a few months, baby" she chuckles, he rolls his eyes and the midwife just laughs "But everything looks good? I was worried because it hasn't moved"

"Um" Susan narrows her eyes "Baby is measuring a bit small which could explain why you haven't felt anything but hopefully it will grow in the next few months so you will start feeling things"

"Is that ok? I haven't done anything wrong?" Carla asks worriedly

"No you haven't" Susan reassures her "Like I said it will probably grow a lot more in the next few months"

"Right" Carla replies apprehensively "But everything else is ok?"

"Everything else is perfect, other than the baby being a bit small everything looks great" Susan reassures her, Carla breathes a sigh of relief "Do you want to find out the gender?"

"Yes" Carla replies with a definite nod of the head, Susan smiles getting into position

"You're having a little girl"

"A girl?" Carla gasps, Peter kisses her forehead "Seriously?"

"You wanted a girl" Peter muses, Carla nods tearfully

"I would say I'm pretty certain" Susan chuckles, Peter kisses Carla again she smiles "How about I print off some pictures for you?"

"Yeah that would be great" Peter nods watching Susan leave the room "A little girl eh?"

"Yeah I can't believe it, I'm going to have a daughter" she whispers, Peter smiles slightly "We're going to have a daughter, Peter"

"We are and I couldn't be happier"

To say that they were over the moon would be an understatement, they were both happy for their future, they were excited nervous at becoming first-time parents and that was something which they knew they would be learning something new every step of the way but they were more than ready for it. Peter decided he would treat Carla to a meal out so they went into town and had a bite to eat before hitting the shops, she didn't want to go overboard not until nearer her due date but she was determined to buy some cute little outfits and some more things for the later stages of her pregnancy so she could be more comfortable.

"So what are we looking for then?" Peter questions, Carla sighs slightly before humming

"Um I want one of those full-length pregnancy pillows I read something online that they're really helpful and comfortable" she shrugs as they come across one "Do they do it in black? I would bend down and have a look but have a melon of a baby in the way"

"Ok" he chuckles at her description pulling the colour she wanted out "This one?"

"That's perfect, it's so soft as well" she beams "I'm not going to get out of bed with this thing"

"Well you can think of that as a positive" he smirks, she playfully whacks him "What else do you want?"

"Let's be honest I need maternity jeans to stop me from whinging every time I can't find something to wear"

"I agree with that" he grins, she shoots him a look as they walk over to the clothes section "What about this?"

"Oh" she raises her eyebrows picking up the box "It goes around my bump, is it like a support for it or something?"

"Well if you read the box you will find out" he bites his lip, she punches him in the arm playfully "Oi!"

"Stop being annoying" she states, he grins "I might just get it anyway"

"Might come in handy for something" he shrugs, she nods slowly putting it in the trolley

"That'll do for now, my feet are killing me" she smiles, he pecks her on the lips "Let's pay for this and head off home"

They took the drive back to Carla's flat where they pottered around a bit before heading to work. Carla refused to have her phone on knowing the abundance of messages she would be greeted by Michelle about whether she knew the gender of the baby yet but she decided to risk turning it on and the messages came flooding in one after another, she just turned erh phone off again before starting the drive to the factory. She entered the building and Michelle and Frank came running out with a cake which made Carla frown confused as to why they were making such a big deal out of it.

"Why the cake?" she chuckles sitting at her desk, Michelle and Frank place it down on the table "You dont even know if I've found out the gender"

"That's why its blue and pink you numpty" Michelle drones "Because you're either having a boy or a girl, either way, you look at it"

"A bit stereotypical" Carla raises her eyebrows "It does smell good though and I do have a thing for icing at the moment"

"That's why we made sure there was extra icing" Frank states, Carla, rolls her eyes "Come on do you know or do you not the suspense has been killing Michelle all day"

"Excuse me!" Michelle defends herself "You've been as eager"

"Ok, maybe but do you know?"

"I do" she confirms, Frank and Michelle look on eagerly "Close your eyes"

"Ugh, Carla!" Michelle groans but she does it anyway, Frank does as well, Carla cuts two pink slices of the cake and puts them onto plates and places one of each in Michelle and Franks awaiting hands

"Open"

"It's a girl?!" Michelle exclaims, Carla nods proudly, her friend brings her in for a hug "I can't believe it!"

"Me neither, Peter and I, we're over the moon" she smirks, Frank narrows his eyes "So now we know can we get on and do some work please?"

"I seriously can't believe it" Frank replies in disbelief Carla chuckles, "I thought it was going to be a boy"

"Well it's a girl and I can't wait for her to be here really" Carla muses, Frank nods slowly "Anyway anything out of the ordinary happen when I was gone?"

"No not really" Michelle shrugs, Franks mobile goes off and he exits the room "That was a bit weird wasn't it?"

"Hm?" Carla hums frowning

"Frank, he wasn't exactly happy that you were having a girl"

"Oh, I didn't really notice and anyway it's not his baby and as long as me, Peter and my daughter are happy then that's good enough for me"

"Good, you deserve happiness" Michelle confirms, Carla grins "Anyway let's get on"

They got on and did some work and by the end fo the day Carla was really ready to call it a day, her feet were aching and her back was aching as well but she was willing to pay the price for her daughter because she came before anyone. She drove home and trudged up the stairs to her flat and was greeted by Peter who had a romantic meal set out for her, she smiled at his thoughtfulness and they enjoyed a lovely evening together. They sat and watched TV and it wasn't before long until Carla fell asleep on Peter, he carried her into the bedroom and placed her down on the bed.

"Hmm" she moans slightly, he chuckles watching her eyes flutter open "How long were I asleep for?"

"A couple of hours" he whispers, she stretches out on the bed "Do you want me to dress you in your pyjamas?"

"Too hot for pyjamas" she mumbles, he raises his eyebrows, she undresses and grabs an old shirt of his and chucks it over herself before climbing back into bed

"More like you just wanted to steal my top" he grins, she smiles to herself watching as he climbs into bed as well "And how are my two favourite girls?"

"We're good" she mumbles curling up next to him on her pregnancy pillow "This thing is so comfortable"

"Well that is the point" he grins, she smiles shifting around "I still can't get over the fact that in just over a few months we're going to have a daughter"

"I know" she smiles "I can't believe it either, it's crazy" she shakes her head in disbelief "We'll have to get the spare bedroom ready"

"Actually talking about that, I was thinking that maybe we could get somewhere else?"

"Hm?"

"Like a house? Three bedrooms, one for us, Simon and the baby"

"I guess it would be nice to have more space, let me think about it"

"Ok" he nods kissing her on the forehead, both their hands rested on her bump "How was the rest of your day?"

"Boring really apart from Frank being genuinely weird"

"How do you mean?" he asks intrigued, Carla sighs tiredly not really wanting to get into this at this time of night

"Well Frank and Michelle put this cake together, it was pink and blue, kind of like a gender reveal cake"

"That was sweet of them" he responds, she nods slowly "So the problem was?"

"Well when I told them it was a girl he just acted weird I guess, he wanted it to be a boy I think or he was expecting it I dont know" she shrugs, Peter pulls a face "Exactly what I was thinking"

"Hm that is very weird, anyway his opinion doesn't matter does it because we're happy with our daughter aren't we?"

"Exactly" she nods before yawning "Anyway I want to sleep now because I am drained"

"Well you do that, wake me if you need anything yeah?"

"I will" she smiles kissing him one last time "Night, baby"

"Night sweetheart"
