Lukas's POV
Moving over to his floo and grabbed powder from the jar before calling out, "Huntik Foundation Headquarters, Germany, Alec Metz!"
Then he kneeled down to stick his head through. Metz's office had not changed much from when he was a boy. There were a few less trinkets around it and only a few pictures of Dante.
Metz was sitting at his desk checking over reports. It took him a long moment to realize that he was being floo called. Lukas knew it had to be a surprise for the elder seeker. Wizards rarely wanted anything to do with seekers nowadays. Though his face brightened considerably when he saw who was floo calling.
Metz stood and went around the side of the desk so he could converse easily with Lukas. The man asked curiosity flashing through his eyes, "Lukas what can I do for you?"
Lukas replied seriously, "Its not something we can exactly discuss over a floo connection. You never know who is listening in. Would you be able to come through?"
Metz stepped closer as he said, "Yes I can. Step back."
Lukas did as he was bid stepping back to allow Metz to come through. A moment later the fire flared green and Metz stepped through. He brushed the ash from his clothes before facing Lukas and Severus. The boy looked between them question in his eyes.
Lukas asked carefully, "Severus can I tell him what you told me? Alone I will not easily be able to get you from your father's care. Metz is widely respected all across the world. With his help, we would have a higher chance at this."
Severus glanced at the man doubtfully before asking, "Do you trust him?"
Lukas smiled slightly as he replied, "With my life. Severus, I promise you that nothing you will say will be used against you. We will make sure that you are safe and happy as best we can."
The three of them sat in the chairs and after a moment Severus explained to them what his father did. With each passing sentence, he felt the rage within him grow. Maybe he should look up spells that could hide his presence and magical signature. Then he could make the man feel every ounce of pain he inflicted on Severus.
Ever since his own childhood, he could not stand child abuse of any kind. It didnt matter if you were pureblood, muggle-born, or muggle. It wasn't right to harm a child for any reason.
When Severus finished he looked exhausted. Not that Lukas blamed him. Telling someone about your situation especially as bad as his was took a lot out of you. It took immense trust between them.
Metz questioned tapping his pen on the pad he had been writing on, "Severus can you summon a titan and use a seeker power?"
The boy nodded before he said, "Yes sir."
It took a moment for Lukas to realize what Metz was going to do. He asked for clarification, "You plan to make him a Huntik Foundation member?"
Metz replied, "Yes. As a member of the Foundation, any rank 2 or higher member can act as his guardian. He would have to take the test tonight if were to stop Albus from sending him back."
Lukas sighed, "I can act as the third party to sign off on the ranking test. Being a rank 1 it shouldn't be an issue if I sign for it."
Severus questioned carefully, "What are you talking about? What are we going to do? How will this help me?"
"Its seeker law," Lukas answered causing Severus to blink in surprise before his mask returned, "Seekers of a low rank must have a mentor. Most of the lower-ranking seekers are underage, to begin with. Seeker law would give your mentor the same as parental rights over you. It makes things much easier if you were to be injured on a mission. It also allows us to take a seeker out of an abusive environment. The only problem is that seeker law only works with the Guilds. So a freelance seeker like myself could not activate seeker law. This is why I called Metz as the Chairman of the Foundation he doesn't have to go through the hoops and hurdles that others would. His application for guardianship over a minor child in the Foundation would automatically be accepted."
"That's why you want me to take a ranking test. So that I can officially join the Foundation."
Lukas nodded carefully. This was it. Either they tried to do it this way or they were back to square one. He still didn't know how he was going to save Eileen Prince from her husband. It was easier to save a seeker child than it was to save an adult. Adults were notoriously stubborn and strong-willed. Being of the Prince bloodline she would be both of those things.
He was so lost in his thoughts that he almost missed Severus agreeing to be tested. This would be good for the boy. Being a Guild member would be good for his confidence. Confidence was key in their line of work. Without it, they could fail to summon a titan. In turn that could end their very lives. Metz would take good care of him just as he had done for Lukas as a child. Before the curse had taken him at least.
The first step of the test was for Severus to use a seeker power. A simple but strong boltflare later proved that he could perform a seeker power. That was the easy part of the test. Next was where most people failed their first time.
Severus took a deep breath to center himself. Then he pulled out the amulet from his pocket.
He invoked his seeker magic filling the room raw and untamed, "Defend me, Linirus!"
A lynx-like titan with grey-colored armor formed ready to immediately defend its master. It seemed Severus not only could summon his titan but he had mastered the bond. It was an extraordinary feat for someone with so little practice. He was proud of the boy.
When Linirus was sent back Metz declared, "You are now a rank 7 seeker. It's not much but you will grow stronger with time. I'll do an emergency filing of the paperwork. Though I do have to ask. Will you accept me as your seeker mentor and guardian? I swear to you that I will never willingly strike you out of anger. There will be bruises from training but nothing that will scar or leave lasting damage."
"I will," declared Severus, "But what about my mother? She won't survive if this continues. He will end up killing her."
Lukas answered, "I'll be visiting there tomorrow. If she will allow me to I'll remove her from the house. If not then I'll be asking around with some of my friends who know the law better than myself. Possibly even contacting Lord Prince if it comes down to it."
"Okay. Thank you, professor."
Lukas smiled slightly, "Of course. You are my student and I will do everything I can to protect you."
