Bagheera

His search continued for that stupid bear. If his thoughts were right and he managed to sneak Mowgli out of the man-village after his failed attempt to convince him to stop, then he's simply putting not only his own life in danger, but the man-cub's as well.

He had taken to the jungle floor instead of through the branches, not wishing to encounter another unsuspecting denizen like the night before. Running as quickly as he could, his physique was far better than that of Baloo's, who would frequently let himself go for days without moving a muscle outside of drinking water. What a lazy one he was; but despite all the complaints he had about Baloo, he did understand one thing about him.

He missed Mowgli too.

It was fun watching the man-cub grow up in the jungle, go from a defenseless baby into a defenseless boy. Observing him climbing trees and figuring out what was good to eat and what wasn't. He had plenty of good memories with Mowgli that he looked back on fondly. But to bring him to the jungle again despite the danger that awaited him. Well, that was far too risky of a proposition.

But something else disturbed Bagheera as well.

When he awoke, nestled on the branch as he yawned, stretched his limbs, and made sure to get his muscles ready to pounce, a familiar voice grumbled from underneath the branches. Careful to lean forward, seeing who it was, he realized that it was Shere Khan.

"That lying snake. He told me that they would be at the ruins or the swamp. I went to both and found no one there." The tiger growled as he pushed through the luscious green ferns of the jungle, mumbling something else that caught Bagheera's attention. "I should've had that girl for dinner instead of giving her up to him."

Girl.

His heart plummeted, and he sank back into laying down on the branch. He put his paws over his head, putting the dots together in an instant.

If Mowgli had escaped the man-village and come back, then the girl who would have followed him might have been the very same one who lured him in. The thought filled him with dread. Not only did he have to deal with Baloo, but now a man-cub had been killed on their watch. She must have ran into Kaa shortly after they had their conversation.

Oh what a dreadful morning it was.

Rushing over the river, Bagheera had to find them. Tell Mowgli about what had happened, and then berate Baloo on his irresponsible actions that put the entire jungle in danger.

The heat of the day did little to calm Bagheera down.
