That night, Jack and Annie watched down from Heaven again; at Rose walking towards the poop deck of Keldysh. Her white hair and nightgown both blew in the wind. Her feet were bare, with nothing but red nail polish on her toenails. Her hands were clutched around her chest, looking as if she were praying.
As soon as Rose reached the stern rail, she grasped her gnarly fingers over the top, and stepped up on the gunwale. Climbing up, she leaned forward to get a glimpse of the black ocean glinting far below. Rose looked down at her left hand, revealing that she was carrying the Heart of the Ocean. She hadn't revealed the true fate of the diamond to Lizzy, Mr. Lovett, or any of the crew members. Like Annie with her pocket watch, Rose had kept the Heart of the Ocean for safe keeping all these years. Rose smiled as she remembered the moment when she discovered it in Cal's coat pocket while aboard Carpathia.
With all her memories of Titanic at peace, Rose clutched onto the necklace one last time. Then, with a small squeal, she let the Heart of the Ocean fall from her hand, tossing it overboard, and into the ocean below. With the diamond gone forever, being sent back the wreck of Titanic where it belonged, Rose looked up again with a small smile, and sighed. Rose had released the Heart of the Ocean, because she believed she was finally ready to "move on" and make peace with Jack, Annie, and the other 1,500 souls who died that night.
After witnessing Rose go back to her room, and into bed, Jack remembered one of his last tips for Rose he made that tragic night.
"You're gonna die an old... an old lady, warm in her bed."
And there was Rose - now an old lady - a century-old lady - warm in her bed. She was lying down completely still. Probably sleeping peacefully... or maybe something else.
He tugged Annie's arm sleeve a little, and pulled her along. "Come on," he whispered. "We don't wanna be late."
Annie looked puzzled by this. "For what?"
"You'll see," Jack grinned, winking at her.
Annie thought about it for a few moments. Then, she grinned from ear-to-ear once she realized what her brother was talking about.
All the deceased passengers and crew were waiting at the Grand Staircase for their special upcoming occasion; Captain Smith, Thomas Andrews, Molly Brown, J. Bruce Ismay, Colonel Archibald Gracie, Fabrizio, Tommy, Helga and her parents (who had come to accept their daughter's relationship with Fabrizio), Lucy and William O'Malley and their parents, Cora and her parents, Rose's maid Trudy, John Jacob Astor, Dave and Jessica Dawson, the officers, the stewards, the musicians - everyone was there.
Cal, Mr. Lovejoy, and Ruth DeWitt-Bukator were the three of those who were not present, or even welcome, in Titanic Heaven.
Jack and Annie stood up by the clock, which read 2:20, with their backs turned towards the stairs.
Annie looked down the stairs, and grinned happily to see who was approaching them. The crowd of the ladies and gentleman down there, were greeting with warm smiles, nods, and waves.
Jack turned around as well, and smiled gratefully. He extended his hand out.
Rose, in her youthful seventeen-year-old appearance again, came up the stairs, happily accepting Jack's hand. They leaned in closer, and shared their first kiss after 84 years of separation.
Annie, the passengers, officers, crew of the RMS Titanic, and all the others smiled and applauded for the newlywed couple; Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Rose Dawson. Who else could have thought the perfect reunion/wedding would ever take place in Heaven? Titanic Heaven? Rose was finally back with her first, and originally meant-to-be, true love; Jack Dawson.
Now, Rose and Annie were legally sisters-in-law. Annie thought that this couldn't have been a more perfect ending for them. Or even better... a perfect beginning for all of them.
Annie softly began to sing, "Every night in my dreams..."
The End
