It had been a year since the last time Jessie and John had seen each other. They'd both made no attempts to contact each other. Jessie had gotten a job as a waitress at the diner she frequented. She and her friend Katie were closing up for the night. Katie was in her early twenties.

"So, how'd it go last night." Jessie asked Katie asking about a date she went on the night before.

"Really good?"

"How many dates does that make now?"

"Six."

"Did you guys do anything?"

"Yes." She said smiling.

"How was it?"

"Fantastic." "How come you never date?"

"I don't have a very good track record."

"How many guys have you been with?"

"Three."

"Boyfriends?"

"My first was my boyfriend."

"Did you love him?"

"Yeah." She turned and faced away from her to wipe down the counter. "I thought the second guy liked me but it was just a summer fling."

"What about the third guy?"

"That one really hurt." "I thought he cared about me, I honestly did." She said with tears forming in her eyes. "He just used me like every body else." She sniffled.

"Are you ok?"

"I'm fine." She wiped her eyes and went to the back.

John was at Springfield College. He'd just gotten back to his dorm. He'd a couple girlfriends but none that stuck. His mind always went back to someone. He took a picture of Jessie out of a desk drawer and laid down. He missed her.

Flashback
