At 32 weeks pregnant, Lexie was sore and exhausted all the time. She was also so incredibly moody that most people avoided her unless absolutely necessary.

Mark was stressed, trying to divide his time between Lexie, work, Sofia, and Callie. He hadn't actually set foot outside the hospital since Sofia was born, unwilling to leave while his premature daughter was still in the NICU. Callie's recovery wasn't going much better, her stubbornness at times causing setbacks instead of progress.

All Mark wanted was for Callie and Sofia to get well and be able to leave the hospital before Lexie had their son. He had pushed her aside for far too much of her pregnancy, focusing mainly on Callie and Sofia, even before the accident, and he knew that Lexie deserved so much better than what he had given her.

Lexie had been all but sidelined from surgery until her due date, which was no help to her mood. Since she spent most of her time sitting and doing paperwork, she was bored out of her mind. And the boredom allowed her time to think.

Her son would be born in about eight weeks, almost two months. She would then have her 12 weeks of maternity leave before she would come back and begin her fourth year of residency.

If Lexie was being completely honest with herself, she had no idea how she would make this work. Once her leave was over, she would have to balance her career and raising her son, and even though Mark would be involved, she was still a single mom.

It annoyed her to no end that Mark would be splitting his nights between caring for their son and caring for Sofia, because even when he wasn't there, Sofia still had two parents, but when he wasn't with her, she was alone. Sure, since she lived at Meredith's she would have her sister and Derek to help, but they were in the process of adopting Zola, so they would have a child of their own to care for. Alex was there as well, but she couldn't really be reliant upon him to help with her son all of the times Mark wasn't there.

To put it simply, Lexie was stressed. She couldn't even talk to Mark about any of this because she didn't want him to think that she was asking him to choose between her and Sofia like he had with Sloane.
