Chapter 19

Raccoon City- Underground Lab

Annette Birkin's POV

Everything was going smoothly. In about four to six months, my husband's new virus will be ready. It will be perfect. This is our lives work. We have put a large amount of hours, making this virus, as well as other viruses for Umbrella. But not anymore. Tho I doubt we will be full free of them. They are too powerful.

"How's it going Will?" I ask walking into his work area.

He doesn't even look up. "Going slow, but it's the only way. It's got to be perfect."

To most, what we are doing can be considered overkill or just overthinking it. But when four viruses all fail, cause they went out of the lab to fast, to be tested on more than just plants and bugs. You start to want to hide your findings. After talking with Will, I went back to my work area. It seemed like a normal day. Sherry was in the room with me.

I smile at her. "Sherry, I have something for you."

She smiles back at me as she walks over to me. I hold out a large locket. I really hope she doesn't lose it. "It's beautiful mom." Her voice is a little high.

I open it. "I want you to have this, so you know mom and dad are always with you. And that we love you so much."

Looking up, I see in the monitor a group of me, walking around our lab. I pick Sherry up and head for the emergency elevator. I knew Sherry was scared and confused by what she was asking me. But it didn't matter. Sherry needed to get out of here. Now.

"Sherry, I need you to run and hide. When you find a spot, don't make a sound. Do not lose that locket. I love you. Now go Sherry." I say sending her up to the police station.

As soon as she was out of sight, I ran back to Will's area. I was too late for . they were outside his door. Thinking quick, I head for my area and turn on the monitor. I can see everything and hear everything.

"I will never give it to you! It's my virus! Not your! Not Umbrella's!" Will yells.

"Do not make me use force, Birkin." Their voice was muffled. So you can't tell if they were male or female.

Will picks up something, not sure what but it makes the others laugh at me."Fine. Have it your way." The masked person then points a gun at Will.

I could see Will getting nervous by the minute and trying to find a way out of there. I wanted to help him, but I was afraid I would make things worse. All I could do was watch as Will made an attempt at attacking one of the men in front of him. They shot him several times. He hits the table behind him and then stays still on the floor. I had to wait for them to get what they wanted and leave. It took them about ten minutes to leave but I waited five more minutes before I ran to Will.

He was barely alive. "Will speak to me, what should I do?"

He pushes me aside. "There's nothing you can do!" He yells as he goes through his pocket.

I watch as he takes something out and injects himself. "What the hell was that?"

"Run away." Was all he said before his eyes closed for the last time.

Staring at him, for a few seconds, before heading to my computers, I need to put everything onto a removable hard drive and then destroy the main frame. As it was downloading the information something large broke out of Will's lab. I couldn't see what it was, but I knew it was lose.

Sewers- 200 yards from William Birkin's Lab

HUNK's POV

I hate it when things went from being a good plan to a horrible plan. William Birkin didn't have to make this into a big issue. All I wanted was the virus. It wasn't that big of a deal. Once he was down, I grabbed this black case on his desk. As well as a syringe containing something into my pocket.

"Do you feel that?" Someone said from behind me.

Slowing down a bit, I could feel a slight tremor and if I listen very carefully I could hear the sound of bricks falling. This isn't good. Something is following us and it's big.

"Everyone split up. Now." I tell them calmly.

Within seconds we all split up and hope we can lose whatever it is. Two guys decided to follow me. Didn't bother me, just as long as they don't slow me down. I had just turned a corner when something knocked down the wall a few feet away from where I am. Carefully looking around the corner, I see what looks like Birkin, but couldn't be. He was dead. Then it hits me. He had the virus on him as well.

"Run!" The guys yell, moments before Birkin smacks his hand into their backs.

I hear them scream as Birkin starts smashing his hand into the men. As for the case, I couldn't see it, so I had to assume it's been destroyed. There wasn't anything i could do now, just get out.

Sewers

A rat's POV

There's a new smell in the air. It smells a little sweet. They can't resist. From every corner of the sewers they all run in the same direction. For what they find is something that taste sweeter than garbage. As they eat it up, some of it gets washed down the pipes and go into the drinking water. As the rats finished their meal, they scurry off. They start feeling something foreign and scary. Something that sparks a new feeling and a new drive.

Raccoon City Park

Tina Parker's POV

What a great date. First a nice dinner, then a horror movie, and now a nice walk in the park. I couldn't ask for anything better. He turns to me, puts his arm around my wrist and brings me in. We stare into each other's eyes, my heart begins to pound and he looks away.

"There's a group of rats watching us." Joe says.

He's starting to get a look of curiosity. Turning around I see them. Five very big rats staring at us. It creeped me out. I mean, I'm not afraid of rats, I was creeped out by the way they were looking at us. Like they wanted to kill us. I blink once and one of the rats was missing.

"There's one missing." I look around. "Where did it go?"

"Relax, it's just a rat Tina." Joe tells me, right before he screams.

Reacting to it, I see the missing rat biting Joe in the foot. I run at it and kick it. "We should get out of here." I tell him already heading for town.

"I'm not gonna argue with you." He tries to walk with me.

We start moving as fast as we could. I look back and see the rats running after us. "We need to run Joe!" I yell trying to get him to run with me.

Once he see them, he ignores the pain and runs with me. I wasn't sure where to go, seeing as they can go anywhere. I was getting tired and really short of breathe. Risking a look back behind me, I don't see any of the rats. Thank you.

"They're not following us." I look over at Joe.

His face is pale, there's more sweat on him and he's out of breathe. He starts to cough up blood. Getting him to the nearest hospital, they take him. And like me they couldn't understand how a rat bite could cause all of this. Standing next to him as he gets worse. An hour later they tell me, he's dead. I look at them and cry. But I stop when I hear a bloodcurdling scream. It was coming from Joe's room.

"He's alive?" I run to his room.

When I get there, I see something that makes my stomach turn. I scream causing Joe to let go of the nurse. Who now has a chunk of skin missing from her neck. Running away, I see a few more sites like it. It's everywhere. The ones that die, get up, kill those who are nearest to them, and find new ones. And the new ones that get killed get up and start killing. What was going on? I'm getting closer to the front door, when three dead people block the way out, I just can't believe this is happening to me. I'm there for too long and something grabs me. Then bites me in the neck. I fall forward and land on my back. As I feel the life drain from me, the last image I see is Joe standing over me, with my fresh blood running down his chin.

Jill's Apartment

Jill's POV

It was all over the news. Mass murder in the main hospital. No one was left alive and from what the police say, those that were doing the killings were all reported to be deceased. This all sounded like it was coming from a cheap horror movie. Billy had already called me. He was out of town and by the time he got back there was a road block at every entrance to the city. Something big was happening and it was coming soon.

"We interrupt your daily program to bring you this important announcement." It was on every channel.

Soon this guy comes on. "By now you have notice that this in on every channel, all communication coming and going from Raccoon City will be terminated until the situation is resolved. We ask that you stay away from open windows and do not open the door to anyone. More information will be given when it becomes available. That's all." The screen goes black.

"What kind of information is that?" I ask myself.

I couldn't see how our plan was going to work now that the army is involved. Something told me that things were going to hell, very soon.

Outside Raccoon City

Wesker's POV

So it happened again. Another outbreak. Only this one was more public, tho it didn't get out for others to see. Yet, I had to get in there and get that virus Will was working on before Umbrella gets their hands on it. And we all know what happens when they get it. But then again, Will isn't that stupid to get caught.

"Time to wait for a bit and watch things unfold." I say as I jump on the nearest house.

The army didn't bring anything big in. Just men with big guns. It's just too beautiful to watch. Hours go by and a few people are found wandering the streets. The police are unsure on how to approach them. When one walks over to the closest person to him, he says a few words before he gets attacked. Soon, the the police won't even go near another person. Shooting whoever gets in their way.

"In a few hours, there will be no one alive to stop me." I smile as the sound of gunfire starts up all over the city.

Sitting back, I open a bottle of beer, and relax as the virus starts to spread like wildfire. Within the first hour, those that were really ill, changed the fastest. Those who were healthy but got bitten had about an hour before they changed. And well for the rest, they were doomed. Between the walking dead, the dogs, a new enemy was walking into Raccoon City. they don't stand a chance.

Third floor- Computer Lab

Joseph's POV

When we first started this, I thought this was going to be a piece of cake. But after awhile you start realizing that it was going to be a lot harder than it looks. Until I came across a few computers. They were in use, but the person using it, had to go and help with some of the specimens. Thinking quick, I looked around the room, I found a few removeable hard drives.

"Sweet." I picked them up, plugged them in, and to my surprise they were empty.

Good. now I can attempt to find all the files we need. Or I could just transfer everything and get the hell out of here. Giving the computer the command to transfer everything, it said it would take about an hour to do it. I watched the door and every now and then see how far the transfer is going. At one point the counter said it would take 56 hours and then the next minute three hours. It was getting annoying.

"Stop watching the clock Joseph. Watch the door." I tell myself.

An hour and a half goes by and the computer is telling me that the one hard drive is full and there is 78% done. Moving fast, I plug in the second drive and continue the transfer.

"Joseph, we're done this floor. Where are you?" Chris asks using the radio.

I'm about to answer when I hear a noise. I quickly turn off my radio, grab the full hard drive, and find a place to hide. Seconds later this guy walks in.

"Hey, we may need you back here again." Someone calls through his radio.

Trying to breathe, I turn my radio back on, as I head back to the computer. "Guys, I believe I have all we need. I'm just waiting for the transfer to be complet. Then I will meet you in ten." The computer showed 90% done.

"Excellent news. Can't wait to see it." Nathan responds.

As I wait, I see these files on creatures that Umbrella had made, and where they were located. Not bothering to read it, I stuff it in my bag. Once the transfer is done, I put the hard drives in and attempt to erase the record that I was even in there. But I knew it would take too long so I left. I truly hope that by the time they find out, we will be far away or Umbrella is being taken down.

Sara's Apartment

Kevin's POV

The shit has hit the fan. Big time. There is not one spot in the city where you don't hear gunshots or screams. I was very happy that Sara did some modifications to her apartment. All windows were boarded up, the front door has a heavy duty lock, and the best part was we had a lot of ammo. Oh and she has a generator for when the power goes out. I didn't know how long this was going to take or if it was going to end. There was only Richard, Sara, and I. We weren't able to save anyone. The military called for martial law right away and soon after they were shooting on sight.

"So does anyone have a plan?" I ask just as a new set of gunshots start.

"Not sure. Need to know what we are dealing with." She gets up. "There's something different about those gunshots."

"What do you mean, Sara?" Richard asks, getting up as well.

"Follow me." She looks at me and motions for both of us to go with her.

She leads us to this room, with four monitors. As she turned them on, I knew what they were for. Each monitor showed a different part of the building as well as the outside. Everything looked kind of normal, and then I saw it. Or a blur of something out there.

"Did you see that?" I ask pointing to the monitor showing the building's front door.

We all watch and wait. Then it showed itself. I could see that Richard and Sara have seen it before, but this was new to me. What the hell is it? It looks like a large frog with really big claws.

"How did they get here?" Richard says watching the monitor like a hawk.

"I wish I knew. Maybe from the mansion in the woods." Sara says looking at him.

Looking at the others, I see three more. "Guys, I see three more."

They look at it, and have worried looks on their faces. We stayed quiet as they started to hit both the front door and back door. But sadly the people that stayed in the building couldn't do the same. For the next hour and a half we hide in silence as the people around us, once again screamed before they died.

Helicopter- Outside Raccoon City

Carlos' POV

We've been told there hasn't been any word from Raccoon City for about a week now, and we have been called in, to see what's going on. As well as help whoever we can. When we got there, everything looked quiet and peaceful. Breathing in, I close my eyes and waited to land. God I hope whatever comes at me, I can handle. Once we land, I jump out of the helicopter and start looking around for anything that can harm us.

The helicopter leaves. "Alright, let's move." This Russian says, as we all start to move.

This can't be right! Or can it? I just couldn't believe what I was seeing or hearing. Nothing. Not even a single sound. It's been over two hours now, and we haven't found anything. This was pointless.

"Civilian!" Someone yells.

We all look ahead of us and see someone walking slowly at us. Everyone lowers their guns. Two guys walk over, to see if the civilian is okay. As I look around, I start seeing more come out. All around us.

"More civilians!" Another guy yells out. Yes, I have no clue what their names are.

Before any of us can make a move towards the new ones, two screams can be heard. We all look to see out two men being attacked by several civilians. Mesmerized by the sight, we all forget about the other civilians near us, till it's too late.

"Help me!" The guy next to me yells as this chick digs her teeth into his neck.

My reaction to this was pushing her away but it ended there. The base never told us what to do, if the civilians turned into 'zombies'.

"This way!" There's just two other guys left out of twelve.

Running behind them, while carrying this guy, was really hard. He died on us, we didn't waste time trying to find cover. I just pray that there was someone left alive in this city.

Umbrella HQ- Europe

Things were getting out of hand in Raccoon City, and now an outbreak of the T-Virus. And as far as they knew no one survived. But they were still not happy about it. They wanted to test their new toy on the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. As they thought of losing large data and money crossed their mind, something happened. A S.T.A.R.S. member lived. Not one, but two. And they were close. The head of Umbrella smiled as he turned to the monitor in the lab.

"Prepare him to be woken up." He calmly speaks with an english accent.

"Right away sir." The line goes dead.

Looking down at his laptop, the head of Umbrella types in two missions for his 'pet' to do. The first, to retrieve a sample of the G-Virus. The second, is to kill any members of S.T.A.R.S., by any means necessary. It didn't take Umbrella's new toy long to receive its missions and start heading to Raccoon City from a lab near by. Everything is saw, Umbrella saw. They didn't want to miss a thing.

Wandering around Raccoon City

Brad's POV

I have no idea, how I got past the large walls that surrounded Raccoon City. if wasn't for Umbrella coming after us, I wouldn't return here. Willingly.

"This is going to take too long." I say to myself as I walk around.

The odds of them staying here was small. I mean why stay in a town that's doomed. It didn't make sense to me. I was going to give it about ten minutes before I left, but there was something ahead of me.

"S.T.A.R.S."

Every inch of my body told me to run away and hope my feet will get me there before I die. I wasn't sure if it was after me or I was just being scared. All I knew was I had to get away. No place came to mind at first and yet I somehow found my way to the police station.

"Brad?"

I look near the front door and there they were, "Jill, thank god I found you!" I yell and ran over to her.

"Why are you here?" She looked shocked.

"I was in hiding when Umbrella came after me. So I came here to warn you." I could tell that she was taken back by this.

"That was sw-" I stop her.

"There's more Jill. When I got here, I ran into something. Not sure what it is, all I know it's big and it says only one thing." I start saying, but stopped.

The look on Jill's face said it all. Whatever I saw was now behind me. And the last thing I see is it's face before it kills me.

"S.T.A.R.S."
