2 Years Later...
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" she asked softly as they stood on the deck of Hammersley
"Kate I think it's time" he smiled assuring her
"And what if things don't go exactly the way we want?" she sighed as he turned to face her
"Things never go the way we expect Kate if we always knew how things were going to happen we wouldn't be here" he smiled as they stood in front of their friends and family
"On the count of 3?" she asked with a smile
"On the count of 3" he repeated as they held onto a balloon
"3, 2, 1" everyone shouted as they popped the balloon and pink confetti went everywhere
"I KNEW IT!" Nikki yelled as Mike pulled Kate into a strong hug
"Looks like we're finally getting some of that McGregor beauty" Mike grinned as he placed a kiss on Kate's cheek
"Well I don't think I can handle another child of ours with Flynn charm" she smiled back as he moved his hand down and placed it on her 8-month Pregnant belly
"It was a bit touch and go there, but we made it and just 2 more weeks our little girl will be here" he answered as he felt a kick in return
"And that's my cue, I'll be right back" she grinned as she moved past him to head into the ship for the bathroom.
"You know normally people have a gender reveal when there around 5 or 6 months not when their almost about to drop" Nikki grinned as she made her way over to Mike who was overlooking the water
"We didn't want to do it so early just…"
"In case you lost her" she smiled sadly
"Surprisingly this Pregnancy has been a lot easier than Wyatt's" he shrugged slightly
"And how's Kate coping with the whole not working side of things?"
"It's doing her head in, Maxine offered her a position at NAVCOM but she hasn't made up her mind yet and I guess with not sleeping I think she's just ready for little Melinda to get here" he smirked as he spotted Kate making her way back out when she was stopped by 2Dads and Charge
"Melinda?" Nikki said confused
"Right… Ah it's the name we chose and actually we've got a very special middle name for her" he smiled
"Nikki" Kate answered walking up behind them
"Hmm?" she asked turning to face her as Mike wrapped an arm around Kate's back
"Her middle name is Nikki after her Godmother" Kate smiled
"You want me to be her Godmother?" she asked as she began to tear up she pulled them both into a hug
"There's no one else we'd want Nikki" Mike answered softly rubbing her back as she had her head rested between them.
...
"So how does it feel?" Swaine asked softly as he sat next to Kate hours later as she rested on the wharf her feet hanging over the side
"Sorry?" she replied confused as her hands rested on her stomach
"Having another baby, how does it feel?" he smirked nudging her arm
"Unreal, to think just 2 years ago I almost died and then a year later after Mike and I…"
"Rekindled your romance" he grinned
"Yeah I found out I was Pregnant" she smiled looking down at her belly
"How long until the little one comes along?" he asked taking a sip of his beer
"2 weeks, and I'm ready to have her out" she laughed
"Oh come on it can't be that bad" he replied as she raised her eyebrow at him
"Really, imagine a bowling ball constantly pushing on your bladder, or not being able to sleep because you can't get comfortable"
"Okay I get it"
"Oh and not to mention if I sneeze or laugh to hard I…"
"I get it!" he said laughing as he quickly stopped her she grinned at him as she shifted to rest her head against his shoulder
"Did you ever think we'd be here?" she asked softly as they watched the waves roll in
"What you Pregnant again or you no longer working on Hammersley?" he answered resting his head slightly on hers
"Both?" she shrugged slightly
"Kate… You decided to do what was right for you and leaving Hammersley is what you needed to do to move forward, but I did hear Maxine offered you a job at NAVCOM"
"Yeah… I don't know if I want to go back to be honest, I love getting to stay at home with Wyatt every day or getting a chance to clean and stuff when he's at school not to mention the surprise visits Mike does at lunch time twice a week"
"I don't want to hear that!" he grinned as she laughed slightly
"It won't be the same without you Kate" he said sadly
"They'll be fine, I mean everyone did get their favourite CO back"
"Might Mike Flynn back behind Hammersley hey, was that you're idea or his?" he asked softly
"We both decided, Maxine couldn't find a permanent CO after the whole Baker situation and I could see how much he wanted to go back out"
"Just to be clear Kate, you were always my favourite CO" he smiled as she moved back she to look at him
"Thanks Chris…" she smiled weakly placing a hand on his cheek
"I love you Kate, not sure how I'm going to cope without my little sister bossing me around" he grinned
"When have I ever not bossed you around"
"You take good care of my niece once she's born won't you?"
"Of course and she's going to know all about her Uncle Chris" she smiled brushing the tear off his cheek with her thumb
"Oh I wish I could be around to watch her grow up" he replied wrapping an arm around her back as she rested her head on his shoulder again
"You will always be here with us" she whispered sadly
"I hope your right" he rubbed her arm as he looked out at the water again
"Swaine…" she said sadly moving her head up as she looked into his tear filled eyes
"Yeah…"
"I love you too big brother" she smiled softly as he kissed her forehead she closed her eyes.
"Kate dinners ready time to wake up…" he said softly as he knelt next to the couch
"Mmm?" she mumbled as she opened her eyes
"You okay?" he asked confused as she looked up at him
"I… I saw Swaine" she replied confused
"Swaine? How I mean…"
"How long was I asleep?" she asked confused swinging her legs around the couch as she sat up
"A few hours" he replied sitting next to her as he brushed a piece of hair behind her ear
"It was a dream?" she said confused as she looked at Mike sadly
"What did he say?" he asked as he began running his hand through her hair
"He told me to take good care of Melinda and he wished he could be here to meet her" she sighed sadly
"Kate…"
"I… I miss him so much" she whispered as he moved to pull her into a hug she looked at the photo that rested on the coffee table it was of Wyatt, Swaine, Mike and herself as they all smiled at the camera Kate was holding up an ultrasound photo, it was taken in hospital while he was there for his treatment; Cancer… a brain tumour they hadn't caught it quick enough and the treatment didn't work he was the first person they revealed to that they were expecting another child
"How has it already been six months since we lost him…" Mike sighed as he looked at the photo
"It felt so real we were watching the water, I thought… I thought it was real" she said between the tears
"It was real Kate, he was visiting you to tell you he's been with you this whole time, and he'll be here when our beautiful little girl is born in 2 weeks" he smiled sadly as he kissed the top of her head
"Dad" Wyatt asked confused as he stood near the stairs
"We'll be right there Wyatt" he nodded to assure him everything was okay
"Come on let's get you some food" he said rubbing her back as she shifted to stand he followed suite he wrapped an arm around her back
"What did you guys make?" she asked as they walked towards the kitchen table where Wyatt was placing a plate down
"Lasagna" Wyatt smiled as Kate stopped next to him
"It looks delicious" Kate answered as she looked at her now 13-year-old son
"Dad helped a little" he grinned as Kate pulled him into a hug
"I love you guys, I know since… Well I know I've been a pain since losing Chris"
"You took it harder than anyone else Mum he wasn't just you're friend he…" Wyatt replied as he hugged his mum tightly
"He was special to everyone" she answered as Mike placed a hand on her back
"More so to you Kate, he was your brother and he always looked out for you" he said softly as she let Wyatt go he moved to sit down
"Thank you" she brushed her hand across Mike's cheek
"You better eat I'm sure Mel is starving in there" he grinned slightly as he moved his head down and kissed her softly
"I love you" she whispered against his lips
"And I love you" he replied moving back as he pulled her chair out for her.
