This will be a continuation of the previous chapter. I just thought it would be better broken up, enjoy!
"Today we will be practicing focus," said Shargo.
"Very important for a Jedi," said Windu.
"Indeed," rumbled Shargo. "So to focus is to immerse yourself into one thing. So I will present you with a task and you must be focused on nothing but that".
Ashoka and Tyvral shrugged, it sounded easy enough.
"Close your eyes and meditate, find peace," said Shargo.
Both padawans sat and began to meditate. Shargo sat and did the same. Master Windu and Dev watched. After some time had passed Shargo opened his eyes and looked at the padawans. Both had their eyes closed and were meditating, Padawan Tano had her face scrunched up in the attempt, even without the force he could sense her frustration. Tyvral looked half-asleep a serene look on his face.
Shargo smiled, so peaceful he thought. He took a deep breath then he let a massive bellow through his crest which vibrated wildly. Tyvral and Ashoka's eyes shot open and they gave Shargo a wide-eyed look. Then they covered their ears as the deafening sound echoed through the chamber, which Dev and Windu had already done.
Shargo stopped the sound then he gave the padawans a confused smile and innocently asked them, "Why did you stop meditating?"
Both looked at him wide-eyed before Tyvral answered, "I thought there was rancor in my ear".
"Hmm, so you lost focus," said Shargo.
"It would have been hard not to master," said Ashoka.
Shargo gave her a kind smile, "You are correct of course, and now you see what it is to focus".
"How so?" asked Ashoka.
"Your mind went to many things during meditation, I could sense your frustration. However, when I spoke you were completely focused on it," said Shargo.
"A rather blunt example," commented Master Windu.
"Very true, though now that I am sure I have your attention we shall start the first lesson," said Shargo.
"Then what have we been doing," muttered Ashoka.
Shargo was shambling towards the training equipment, "I was making sure you were awake padawan. You young ones sleep quite a lot". Shargo opened a crate and removed two metal spheres. Both were fist-sized for regular beings and Shargo held them in a fist. He handed one to both Ashoka and Tyvral.
"Oh I remember this," chuckled Dev.
Shargo chuckled, "I'm sure you do".
"Oh great," muttered Tyvral.
"Push it across the floor with the force," said Shargo.
The padawans knelt down and pushed the spheres with the force. The balls rolled across the floor loudly both padawans' gazes locked onto the spheres. They stayed fixated on the spheres until they came to a stop.
Shargo grabbed two tablets from the training supplies and handed them tablets. "Now draw the path it took".
Both did to the best of their abilities and held them up for Shargo's inspection. Shargo nodded his head sagely, "Very good". He held up his hand and two more spheres flew from the training supplies and into the padawans' hands. "Let us raise the stakes shall we?"
They repeated the exercise until they got to three balls when Ashoka's lines were completely off and Tyvral only drew two lines.
"Hmm, well let us continue with three for a while, then move onto four," said Shargo.
"How many are we going up to," asked Ashoka with a wince.
Shargo smiled while Dev let out full-bellied laughter. "He's got crates of those things".
Tyvral and Ashoka shared a wide-eyed look, "What!" they said.
Shargo chuckled, and his crest was now completely yellow, "Well you must learn to focus on more than one thing at a time. If you cannot then you will pay a price".
"What price?" asked Tyvral.
Shargo chuckled, "Dev, Master Windu may I consult you for a moment". The three briefly huddled together and talked. Then all three went back to their previous places.
Shargo cleared his throat before speaking, "Very well, let us go back to one sphere".
Both padawans nodded and rolled the spheres. The spheres rolled across the room loudly before, as usual, coming to a stop. Both padawans turned to look at Shargo expectantly and saw Master Windu and Dev holding out their lightsabers which were mere inches away.
Shargo chuckled, "You did not notice them activating their lightsabers, Dev doing a cartwheel just off to your side, or Master Windu rolling a sphere of his own" and Shargo pointed to a sphere which had rolled off to the right of theirs.
Both padawans looked down at the ground crestfallen.
Shargo knelt down and lifted up their faces. "Do not be ashamed, this is why we practice. Now would you like to go again"?
"Yes Master," said both padawans looking him in his warm brown eyes.
Shargo smiled, "Then let us continue young ones".
