Wade and his team arrived at the ranch. Armed men approached the van; he mumbled, exhaling a long breath this wasn't good. His boss wanted Knight and Ms. White, he didn't understand why Ms. White so crucial. No matter.
Ms. White was trouble, she and her team had decreased his business, and he was glad she was dead. No way she survived.
The passenger's door swung opened, and the man asked, "where's the girl?"
"Coop, Ms. White escaped."
Coop laughed at the two bloody men. "You have a lot of explaining to the boss."
Wade turned to his driver. "Take them to the doc."
The driver nodded.
"Get out, Wade," Coop ordered, shoving his rifle in Wade's shoulder.
Coop was average height with muscles and acted like a power-hungry war lord. Coop pulled away his weapon and leaned, grinning. "Acting brave, are you? Well, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes."
Wade didn't budge. "Could you have captured her?"
Coop yanked Wade out, slamming him against the van, twice.
"Don't mess with me, I'm three times stronger than you, shrimp. The answer is yes because you don't understand what you're dealing with," Coop stated coldly.
Coop was nothing more than hot air, and everything in his mine was a target making him a threat. Miss White was a complicated woman who could act fast in a dangerous situation. The ordeal wasn't a total waste. If she was still alive, he understood her weakness, no one knew. Michael Knight.
How she simply obeyed Knight's commands without fighting. The fear on Ms. White's face when Knight handed her to him that was an advantage he would use if he had another encounter with her. He doubted Ms. White was alive.
Wade hesitated and then entered the main house with Coop. The main living area had dark wood and walls with trophies of dead animals hanging on the walls. A chill raced down Wade's arms when he looked at the angry trophies as Coop led Wade to the office.
The office was much brighter, sunlight shined through the windows, and the floor was a light shade of wood. The oak desk sparkled from the sun's rays casting a huge shadow on the bookcase behind it, Wade stood, as a tingling sensation raced through his skin from the uncertainty.
"Wade is here and empty-handed," Coop said, standing still like a small frighten child.
Realizing their boss controlled Coop, it would make sense he was stronger than normal, Wade needed to figure out the advantage.
The figure sat in a leather tan chair facing the bookcase and motioned for Coop's silence.
Wade stood, and unsure what to do next.
Coop eyed him with a smirk, Wade longed to punch Coop.
The chair turned and faced them.
A gorgeous blonde-headed woman sat in the chair wearing a designer dress and diamond earrings." Gentlemen, we've a problem, our benefactor isn't happy that we haven't obtained the package."
" Priscilla, I would like to hear Wade's report, and why he didn't bring the package," Coop said.
"We are waiting, Mr. Wade," she said, glaring at him.
"Well, at the warehouse one of my men he used a Taser on her, and like you predicted, Ms. White was helpless like a mouse caught in the trap. On my way here, she woke up, fought, and jumped out of the moving van. She's somewhere in the desert dead."
"This isn't good, Wade. You were supposed to drugged Ms. White." Priscilla snapped.
"Ms. White fought me and my men off!" He paused, then said, "I wasn't ready for them. Somehow, they discovered my location sooner than anticipated."
"You were supposed to be ready for them at any time," Coop stated.
"Easier said than done," Wade shot back. "Knight wants his name cleared and located the missiles."
"Your failure has caused Knight and her to go hide for a while. Since he's fleeing from authorities, she'll need time to recover, and they won't be appearing anytime soon on the radar." Coop glared at Wade.
Wade pushed his shoulders back. "Coop, is dead. I'm unsure how they discovered my involvement in this little scheme of our so soon. Perhaps Amy left clues in the house in Nevada?"
Coop took a step forward. "Her house was clean from top to bottom by my team. Amy is still under the mind control drugs and obeying me!" Coop used his thumb pointing at his chest.
"No, Coop," Priscilla stated in a firm voice. "My sister is under my control. Not yours! Don't you forget that." She pointed her finger at him.
"Yes, ma'am," Coop stated.
She stood and stared at Wade. "Ms. White isn't dead, that woman has nine lives just like a cat! This delay gives us more time to prepare." She sat down, leaning back. "You sir, need to remember, you're on a verge of making millions or lose everything including your life if you mess up one more time. It's over. I'll be lenient this time. So, I highly recommend you both remember that. Now, go," she ordered and waved her hand.
Wade and Coop left the office.
"Where's Amy?" Wade asked, staring at him.
"In her room recovering from her assignment," Coop said, stepping closer. "You want to punch me, I see the craving in your eyes, but you can't because you fear me." He chuckled.
Wade's fingers gripped the taser in his jacket's pocket, but it wasn't the right time, he walked
away.
"You won't like what you find," Coop stated.
Wade entered the south wing of the house. Three nurses and the doctor were playing poker as the monitor showed Amy sitting in the corner of her room crying. He wanted to flip the table over and demanded them to assist her. Amy's sister was in charge, he was powerless, and her sister owned Amy.
The woman he loved slipped away each time when the doctor drugged Amy giving her the other identity.
Her mouth moved, Wade read her lips, she wanted Knight.
The head nurse tapped the doctor's arm alerting him. The man stood, walking to Wade.
"Amy is having a difficult time transitioning from the drug. I'm not permitted to give her the transit drugs, so I can't purge her body; she will be using her cover again."
Wade turned. "Why can't you sedate her?"
"She's under a mild sedation right now. It will help her relax, letting her mind ease back into reality. However, each time we drugged Amy, she's believing her cover and the person who she thinks she is."
"You're telling me she wants to be with Knight?" Wade asked.
"I'm not sure if it is Knight or something he represents in her subconscious level."
"That's a bunch..."
"There's a lot about the mind science doesn't understand. Amy likes who she becomes in Nevada, than her dominant identity. Perhaps, she had a hidden trauma from her childhood caused Amy to take a different path. She's making my research quite intriguing."
"Amy is a human being!"
"Really? That's funny coming from a man who sells people into slavery."
He stood. Did he sale Amy to this woman claiming to be Amy's sister for millions?
The old mayor from the Mexico village flooded his thoughts. The grandfather wouldn't allow his granddaughter marry an older man in the states, but her mother had paid him. The old man chanted in an ancient language claiming someone he loved would die.
Was this the curse?
It seemed like it.
Wade grabbed the doctor, shoving him against the wall. "I want her sedated! Now!"
"I can't!"
"Yes, you can! If you don't I'll burn your research. All your years of hard work, gone in a puff of smoke." Wade released him, noticing Amy's file, and a pack of cigarettes with a lighter on the cart. Snatching Amy's file and the lighter, he pressed the igniter, a blue flame appeared, dangling the folder over it.
"Fine! I'll tell her you ordered me too!
"I can live with that."
The nurse and the doctor entered, and Amy begged them to stay away. In a few minutes, she was sleeping in her bed. The doctor glared at him on the monitor.
They needed him alive, but once they were through he would be killed. He didn't care. He wanted Amy out of this mess.
Knight could save Amy, giving her a new life. Wade's business required people to be living and not dead. Amy's sister and Coop were planning something major, but they weren't the backers. Someone with a lot of money and influence had information on Knight and Ms. White. But who, he wondered.
"I want my file back!"
"No. It's mine now," Wade said.
"I'll call Coop!"
Wade stepped closer. "Then Coop will ask questions, which means you will have explain to Priscilla, our Boss."
He turned, the doctor yanked him back.
"Give me that file! I'll kill Amy!"
Wade dropped the file and turned, grinning, as the doctor scrambled to the scattered papers laying on the floor.
