A few days have passed after rescuing Queen Moustoria from Ratigan. The Illustrated London Mouse had a photograph of Basil and Dawson on the front page and were both knighted by the Queen on the twenty-first of June with the headline reading, Queen Honours Detective, and most of the information included, Queen Praises Detective Basil, Medal to be Given, and Time Runs Out for Ratigan. Basil used it to replace to portrait of Ratigan.

"To be thanked by the Queen, herself," Dawson said, amazed. "How very thrilling. Eh, Basil?"

Basil smiled in content, as he placed Ratigan's prized bell on the mantle next to the paper, to remind him of completing his goal and bringing Ratigan to justice.

"All in a day's work Doctor," Basil agreed.

Mr. Flaversham and his two daughters spent a few days with Basil and Dawson to celebrate. But today, they would be going back home to their toy store and get it fixed up. Hiram was wearing a blue trench coat and bowler hat. Little Olivia was back in her coat, scarf, and hat, and Genevieve was back in her sky blue dress, with her coat and hat. Genevieve had a bandage on her arm from Ratigan's scratches and more wrapped around her abdomen. The scratches on her abdomen would be able to fade away with no scarring, although she would have scars on her arm.

"Oh Dr. Dawson, you were wonderful," Olivia said.

The little girl's sweet comment caused the doctor to chuckle. The eldest girl giggled too, and she felt a heavy weight was lifted off from her heart, knowing that her mother had been avenged.

"At least now, Mother can finally rest in peace," Genevieve said.

"Indeed," Hiram agreed; he pulled out his pocket watch and grew surprised of the time. "Oh my, we're late to catch our train! Come along girls."

"Yes, Father," Olivia said.

"We'll be right with you," Genevieve added.

Olivia wrapped her arms around Basil's waist and wanted to give him one more hug before going home.

"Goodbye, Basil," the little girl said, and sniffled, she was on the verge of tears. "I…I'll never forget you."

Genevieve was touched at the moment, and felt tears forming in her eyes. She shook them away and came up to Basil. A kind smile appeared on Basil's face as he tenderly placed his hands on the child's shoulders.

"Nor I you, Miss… Miss Flanghanger."

Olivia grew surprised, but she shook her head away and smiled. Genevieve made a quiet snort, rolled her eyes, but she gave a smile. She knew that the detective was only joking.

"Whatever," Dawson said, chuckling.

Genevieve walked up to the detective, and hugged him too. She wrapped her arms around his torso, and rested her head on his chest. Basil returned the hug and held her close.

"Basil, thank you. You've helped my family, the Queen, and Dawson. But most of all, you've helped me. I felt that my heart began to repair fully and you've helped me move on from my past. I'll admit I mess up sometimes, and I'd give anything to fix up my mistakes. I won't forget you too."

"I shall never forget you too, Genevieve," Basil replied.

The oldest sister separated from the hug from her beloved detective. The same one who comforted her, protected her, and loved her as well.

"Goodbye Doctor Dawson," Olivia said.

"Goodbye, and thank you," Genevieve added.

"Goodbye my dears," the doctor said as he gave Olivia a pat on the head.

Olivia and Genevieve made their way up to the small staircase to the front door, and they looked at the two men one last time.

"Goodbye," Olivia whispered as Genevieve gave a wave. The two sisters left the flat and closed the door.

Once the girls have left, Basil couldn't help but feel blue about the Flaversham's parting. "Well uh…ahem…" He sniffled, and tried not to let out his emotions. "Not a bad little girl actually; and her sister's not such a bad young lady too."

"Not at all," Dawson agreed, he went to put on his hat and coat, and sighed. "Well, it's time I was on my way too."

"But…um…" Basil stammered, he didn't want the doctor to leave. He was especially starting to miss Genevieve also. "But I thought…"

"Well, the case is over and… perhaps it's… perhaps it's best I found my own living quarters," Dawson finished as he pulled on his jacket.

"But…" Basil tried to object, but he continued to think in his deep thoughts of the friends he made, and found the love of his life. He regretted not telling Genevieve about his feelings for her.

Outside on the street, the Flaversham family was making their way back home. But only one member felt sad, Genevieve couldn't help herself. Although she was happy her father was safe and will be going back home soon with him and her sister, she couldn't help but feel sorrowful for leaving Basil. Mr. Flaversham noticed the distressed look on her face.

"Genevieve, are you all right, darling?" Hiram asked.

"Father, I don't know what's gotten over me," she admitted. "Something tells me that I should go back to Basil, but I know I have a life with you and Livi, and I'm not old enough yet to start my own life. I feel that I'd be selfish, if I abandoned you two if I were to live with Basil."

"Oh sweetheart," the father said, comforting his oldest daughter. "You're not being selfish. I know that you've been through troubling times, and you and Olivia were brave enough to look for me. Sometimes, we all have to make choices that will make sense and to make us happy. If this is what you want to do…"

"But Daddy, I don't want to leave you and Olivia alone in the toy store! I belong there! Who will watch Olivia when I'm not around? What if nothing works out? Or…."

"It's okay, Genevieve," Her father said, hugging her. "I will always watch Olivia, and she'll be okay. You're also welcome to visit us, and we'll always visit you too. I think you've been developing feelings for Basil, haven't you?"

"I… I think so," the girl replied, nodding and blushed too. She looked down at her little sister, who was giving a sad smile. Genevieve knelt down and looked at Olivia's blue eyes.

"Livi, are you sure you'll be okay without me?"

"I'll be okay Ginny," the little girl said. "As long I have Daddy on my side, I'll be fine. Basil will keep you good company."

Genevieve began to follow her heart, and felt the summer breeze float through her hair as it guided hers to Basil's home. That was the moment when she looked back and realized where her true path in life was. She looked back at her family, as Hiram gave her a reassuring smile.

"Go on," he said, gently.

"I will go back to Basil," she admitted and looked back at her family and gave them another hug. "I promise that I'll write and visit you, as much as I can."

Hiram gave a smile, he was proud of Genevieve. He was proud that she grew braver and stronger, ever since her last heartbreak. Had it not been for this event, Genevieve would have still been bitter about love. Genevieve gave her family one more hug, and slowly separated from them.

"We'll see you soon, Ginny," Olivia said.

"Aye, come along Olivia, let's go home," Hiram said. "Goodbye Genevieve and good luck."

Then Mr. Flaversham and Olivia began to make their way towards home and Genevieve waved back at them. The girl turned back to Baker Street and hurried to the front door of Basil's flat. She knocked on the door. Seconds later, the door was opened and Dawson grew surprised to see the oldest Flaversham sister back.

"Genevieve!" Dawson exclaimed with surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I had to come back," she replied. She looked in to see Basil's solemn face turned into shock and surprise. The young girl made her way to the detective and gave him a smile. Although the detective was confused, but deep down he was glad that Genevieve came back to him.

"Genevieve," Basil stammered. "Why did you come back?"

The girl gathered up her courage and decided to confess the truth to him.

"I realized that I had to come back to you Basil. Basil, do you want to know what the best part of this adventure was?" she asked.

"No, what was it?" Basil asked, raising his eyebrow.

"I got the chance to fall in love, all over again. But this time, it was you I have fallen in love with."

Basil's green eyes lit up, the girl really was in love with him. At that moment, he needed to confess his feelings to her also too. He placed his hands on Genevieve's shoulders and looked into her beautiful brown orbs.

"I think this adventure has brought us closer together too," the detective agreed. "To be honest, I love you too."

At that moment, Basil and Genevieve leaned into each other and had their first kiss. Never had Genevieve had felt this deep connection, other than her former suitors, and that this feeling of love was so true. Dawson gave them a feeling of adoration and smiled to see that the detective and the toymaker's daughter had fallen in love.

The two separated from their hug and kiss, and had a feeling that they would have a future together. They both looked at Dawson.

"So Doctor, what are your plans now?" the girl asked.

"Well Genevieve," he said. "I'll have to look for my own living quarters and try to settle down."

"But…" Basil stammered, the girl could tell that the detective didn't want Dawson to leave, as he was now in their friend group. Basil and Genevieve's thoughts were interrupted by a knocking on the front door, and snapped them back into reality.

"Now, who could that be?" Basil asked, with a little bit of irritation in his tone.

Dawson went over to the door and opened it. The visitor was a lady mouse with blue eyes and was dressed in an elegant green dress and hat; the poor lady had an expression filled with sorrow.

"Is… Is this the home of the famous Basil of Baker Street?" the lady asked, taking out a handkerchief and was extremely distressed.

"Indeed it is miss," Dawson said, tipping off his bowler hat politely with a smile. His smile then disappeared when he noticed her forlorn expression. "You look as if you're in some trouble?"

"Oh, I am," The poor lady mouse bursts into tears, as she used her handkerchief to dry her tears. "I am."

"Then you've come precisely to the right place," Dawson reassured.

"Ah," Basil appeared, behind Dawson with Genevieve behind him, and used the opportunity to convince the doctor to stay. "Allow me to introduce my trusted associate, Dr. Dawson, with whom I do all my cases. Isn't that right, Doctor?" he asked, consistently.

"Huh? What?" Dawson stammered, growing surprised by the detective's offer. He turned back to Basil, as the slim detective held out his hand kindly as an offer for partnership. Dawson gladly shook Basil's hand and accepted the offer. "Yes, yes. By all means."

Genevieve came up to the woman and attempted to comfort her and said, "It's all right miss, please tell us what happened?"

Basil noticed how the girl was comforting to the lady mouse, and feel that she can be helpful on his cases.

"Oh, and this is my new assistant and helpful partner, Ms. Genevieve Flapjacks," he said, placing his hands on Genevieve's shoulders.

The girl gave him a stink eye, but she rolled her eyes and smiled; she realized he was only joking about her last name. He gave a chuckle, and adjusted his necktie, before he became serious again to the lady mouse. "As you can see Dawson and Genevieve, this young lady has just arrived from the Hampstead District…"

As he continued to speak Toby was sitting outside from Basil's flat and his ear was lifted so he can listen to the detective's discovery. The basset hound nodded and smiled as he continued to listen with interest. Up from above, Sherlock Holmes was playing his violin from the upstairs window in his home.

"…and is troubled about the disappearance of an emerald ring missing from the third finger of her right hand," Basil continued on. "Now, tell me the story and pray, be precise."

From that time on, Dawson and Genevieve joined with Basil on his cases, becoming a close team. And over the years, they've had many cases together. As promised, Genevieve kept paying visits to her family, and in return they visited her, along with Basil and Dawson. During the next four years, Basil and Genevieve's love grew stronger than ever before, and they married in the spring and had two sons: Samson and Joshua and adopted a little girl named Lucy. But Genevieve would always look back on the first case with the most fondness; her introduction to the love of her life, Basil of Baker Street... the Great Mouse Detective.
