It didnt take us long to realize that a holiday had been long overdue. Apart from taking single days off here and there we hardly ever consumed our vacation days and I felt almost grateful to Cavanaugh for having us pushed into this. It had also been a lucky coincidence that my mother had called just that night.
I could only hope that Cavanaugh got the bullying problem smoothed out till our return next week. "A penny for your thought." Jane said with a smile and nudged me. We were sitting on a small wall, eating some ice cream after eating some lobster for dinner at one of the best restaurants in town. The evening was mild and showed the perfect ending to a nice day in which I had dragged Jane to an old light house.
At first, she had wined that she wanted to stay in bed. I chuckled when I recalled how she had pulled the blanket over her head and cursed. But once we had been in the car for the short drive to the starting point of our hike, her mood had improved remarkably.
The walk to the lighthouse had been fun. We had collected some shells and watched the birds. Upon arriving at the now empty light house Jane had started wandering around looking for a way into the lost place. The building was clearly old and dangerous, but it hadn't kept us from exploring the inside closely.
Satisfied with our adventure we had sat down to the picnic tables and enjoyed the sandwiches we had bought at a gas station before leaving town. She had happily let me google mouth her about lighthouses and shipwrecks which were supposedly lying in the sea nearby while munching on her chicken sandwich.
The rough wind of the coast had blown trough our hairs and we had taken a short nap in the grass before going back home to shower and get ready for dinner.
I glanced at her from the side. "Why would you pay a penny for my thought?" I questioned in surprise, noticing a giggle. She wiped some lost ice cream from the corner of my mouth by kissing me. "It's a proverb." She said with a smile.
"Oh!" I replied while memorizing the new information. "Well, I just thought how we had really needed a vacation and how we should go on vacation more often." I replied honestly.
"You might be right there." She said after some reflection. "If I take all the vacation days I have I could stay home until Christmas." She said with a smirk. "Can't say that I find this thought unappealing."
I silently calculated how long I could stay at home if I took all my vacation days at once and came to Christmas as well. We could go on a cruise or Europe I offered. "Wherever you want to go, Maur. I would follow you to the end of the world." Jane paused. "Well maybe not into the Antarctica. And not on any club vacation." Her eyebrows were raised, and I laughed as I put my hand into hers. "Okay. I'll bear that in mind for the future." I said, taking a bite from my cone.
"I might actually call Cavanaugh and ask him for next week off." She took up our talk from earlier when we sat on the deck later. The sun was setting covering everything in the most beautiful lights. I glanced at the wine which was shining in the glass and nodded. "I think that I could also take the next week off." I said after some reflection.
I relaxed into my chair trying to imagine having two weeks off, spending them vacationing with Jane here in Cape Cod. I loved the idea and said so.
"Maur, you are probably the only person in the world who would describe spending two weeks with me on vacation as relaxing and wonderful." Jane said with a mocking face while finishing her ice cream. There was a short pause before I replied. "And, as it happens, you are the only person I can think of who wouldn't mind doing the same with me."
"Awesome. So, if our relationship survives these two weeks, we run off to Vegas and get secretly married." Jane said with a wink.
"Sorry, won't happen Jane." I smirked not sure whether she was joking or serious. Logically seen it would make sense that we tied the knot if we really made it – of which by the way I had no doubt seeing as to how we were standing together and basically always had been.
Her face almost turned into a disappointed pout so I hurried to explain. "Not that I wouldn't want to marry you, but I had such a wedding before. It would be nice to have at least some relatives celebrate it with us."
"Well that shouldn't be a problem." She shrugged. "I'm sure your parents would come and then we have Frankie and Tommy and Korsak and Kiki." She counted the people off on her fingers with such a serious face that it made me smile. "Let's talk about this after a proper proposal and the next two weeks." I stated with a grin.
"A proper proposal?" she shrieked playfully. "Hell, you are really picky." She took a sip of her beer and snorted playfully.
R&I
The next morning, I was awoken to breakfast in bed and by a sweet kiss. I pulled Jane down onto me with a humming sound while our lips danced together. She didn't object as our tongues started to touch and my hand moved under the hem of her shirt.
After our love making, we settled against the headboard to enjoy our breakfast. The fact that the coffee was cold by now seemed a fair price for the joy we had earlier.
"So, what do you want to do today?" I asked after swallowing the last bite.
"Ah, you know, I thought we could do tourist stuff." Jane said vaguely with a grin. "Something tells me that you already have a plan." I nudged her. "Maybe. Just get dressed. I think you are going to like it." Her grin made me laugh. "Okay." I said jumping out of bed.
Half an hour later we were cruising the streets with Jane behind the wheel. I thought that I would never grow old of her surprises and enthusiasm to surprise me. Whenever Jane had an idea, I could be sure that it was good. So, I waited in anticipation where our journey would lead us. It could be anything from a museum to the silliest site.
Having spent a lot of time at Cape Cod when I was a child, I knew a few places. But not the one Jane took me to now. Cape Cods finest Crime museum it said in big letters over an old farmhouse. My eyebrows shot up as I glanced at her.
"Is there more than one?" I questioned with a giggle. "Not as far as I know. Do you like it, or shall we skip this station to go to the next? They supposedly have autopsy instruments from the 18hundreds in this museum though." She advertised.
"Well, in this case we are almost obliged to go inside, right?" I replied already unbuckling my seatbelt. After paying 2 Dollars entrance fee, we found ourselves in a labyrinth of corridors. Each room was dedicated to another grim crime of the Cods past.
Although I wasn't sure if all of the exposits were authentic. The blood stains on one of the shirts looked suspiciously fake. I felt Janes arms being wrapped around my waite from behind me and her chin came to rest on my shoulders after kissing my neck.
I took my time to glance at the objects even though I was already finished with the room, just to stay in her embrace a bit longer before we moved on.
All in all, it was an interesting museum though and when we stepped out into the sunshine, pulling down our sunglasses I wondered where Jane would take me next. We hopped into the car and ended up at another farmhouse harboring a motorcycle museum. "I figured that you have already seen all the art galleries and typical museums with your parents, so I decided to find the ones you haven't seen." She smirked as our fingers enlaced.
The motorcycle museum was followed by some lunch at a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere. When it came to next point on our agenda, I was glad to have chosen my new Levis, t-shirt and sneakers because it was a quad-rental.
"Pretty cool, ha?" she asked me while we were standing in the garage. I saw that they had all kind of quads, even some for kids. "Always wanted to do that." She smiled like a child under the Christmas tree. I squeezed her hand, happy about her happiness. God knew that the last days had been hard enough and that we deserved some good times.
It didn't take us long to choose each one we liked. The shop owner was very helpful by driving out the Quads of the garage. "Every trail is marked with signs. You can't go wrong. Blue is the easiest one, red is what we call exciting and black is for pro's" he instructed us, and I already knew which one we would chose.
It was fun, but I was sure that I wouldn't be able to sit for the next few days as we rode along a path with lots of bumps and rivers. "See, that's why I chose this to be the last point on today's agenda, because I knew that we wouldn't be able to go anywhere afterwards." Jane smartly said, pointing to our wet pants.
Her mane was wild and tousled from the excitement and I thought that I had never seen a cuter Jane.
"Very clever." I said with a loving laugh. If it wasn't for the detective, I would never had made such delightful experience. Grateful I stepped into her arms and planted a kiss on her mouth. "Thank you." I whispered to her surprised face.
"I'm actually glad you liked it. I was a little bit scared that you might hate me afterwards." She admitted to me when we were back in the car. I rubbed her thigh and smiled. "No, how do they say? You only live once."
Jane wore a crooked smile. "You know what is weird?" she asked as she drove down a long street. "No. What?" I questioned.
"Its weird that this is somehow the happiest time of my live and somehow also the saddest at the same time." Her face dropped and I knew that she was talking about us and Angela.
By now I wasn't so convinced that Angela would turn around anymore. "Yes, but don't they say that happiness is very often close to sadness or so?"
A small and teasing smile crossed her face. "Did you swallow some advice calendar, Maur?"
"I would hardly take these sentences as adv… Oh! You're teasing me!" I mumbled and laughed. She gave me a gentle squeeze and smiled at me. "A bit. Sorry."
"Its perfectly okay." I mirrored her smile. "I tease you too, don't i?"
"I keep asking myself if it would have been different if we had told her. You know, if she had discovered in another way." She mused out loudly, suddenly changing the topic.
"I don't think so." I replied in all honesty, placing my hand to the nap of her neck. "I like it when you do that." She mumbled without looking at me but blushing slightly. "I like all these little touches you give me." She added.
R&I
Janes plan had included some time off before dinner. Time which we spent wisely by taking a long bath to get rid of the mud from our Quad ride and caressing each other. I sat between her legs and leaned against her front side. We shared a bottle of Champagne as we talked about the day.
"That's the best vacation I ever had." I said when leading the back of her hand to my mouth for a kiss and felt Janes arm squeeze my belly. "Yeah? We haven't even started yet." She said in her deep voice, planting a kiss to the one spot behind my ear, which made my lower body react always.
We both had managed to get another week off and I reveled in the anticipation of the things to come as we made out a bit.
Afterwards we got dressed and Jane surprised me with long, white linen pants and a black oxford shirt. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and she wore sandals on her feet. "Ready?" she asked a bit breathless. No, I wasn't. I hadn't even chosen my clothes for tonight.
"Always have to wait for the women to get ready." She teased me, laying down onto the bed to watch me.
"If you want to have a beautiful lady you have to wait." I teased her while getting into a light summer dress.
"You are the most beautiful woman in the world, Maur. With and without clothes. But you are always worth to wait." She said softly.
Now it was my time to blush. Once I was dressed, she took my hand and gave me a kiss. "Lets party!" she said with a chuckle.
