A/N: I don't like leaving things on cliffhangers, so I'm going to post this chapter and the next (soonish) in outline/summary format, so that you can get an idea of what happens (while I wait for editing inspiration for this fic to happen again).

This chapter and the next are an example of what I usually have to work with, after I've initially typed things up. The part where I have to figure out how to beat the chapter into submission, add dialogue, research the questions that I ask myself in the outline, etc. (btw, the tenses are likely all over the place).

Looker is busily calling everyone and anyone he could get through to, including the other kahunas, Kukui, Zossie and others. Looker didn't want Nanu to go alone to Resolution Cave because he didn't want the man to go alone to face a creature from their nightmares. A creature similar to the one that had nearly destroyed both of them ten tears ago.

Guzma returned to the find the police station in chaos.

Kukui, Looker, Dulse, Zossie, Kahuna Hala and Olivia, and several police officers milled around.

Short, rapid discussion, including Guzma refusing to remain behind.

Acerola is in danger, if the reports are true.

Looker has a ride Charizard to take him, and as he heads off, with the others he had called together finding their own means of transport. Looker's mind is awash with worry, incredibly concerned for Nanu, and not liking that Nanu alone right now, even if he had his Pokemon with him.

It felt too much like a trap.

Why?

Who could possibly be setting such a trap?

looker was not aware of any enemies that were still alive to cause him or Nanu any trouble.

Nanu was within sight of Resolution Cave.

*His thoughts as Honchkrow flies there, not content to wait for backup. He knew that this was impulsive on his part.

That there were so many things that could for wrong. But if Acerola was in danger, Nanu would never forgive himself for delaying any time to go find her. He was her guardian (clarification here? From anime?) so there was already some form of responsibility and obligation there.

Nanu shoved the discomfort far back in his mind over the possibility of meeting a monster from his past.

The Ultra Beast that he may have unintentionally faced off as Kahuna of Ula'Ula' Island, when Lusamine had opened up the wormholes.

*More of Nanu's thoughts as he and his Pokemon reach Resolution cave?

Sableye was out, along with Absol. Nanu had Honckrow return to its Pokeball to rest, its leg still healing from the battle with UB Blade.

There was a pang in Nanu's chest over the sight of the blue gem from Persian's forehead hanging on a cord around Sableye's neck. The gem-studded Pokemon had refused to eat it, and seemed to want it as more of a memento.

Nanu couldn't refuse it, even if he had teared up over what Sableye had wanted, once the cop had figured out how to interpret his Pokemon's hisses, growls, and waving paws.

Absol pawed the ground, its claws digging into the ground as it let out a low growl, head swinging back and forth as it observed the cavern.

All of Nanu's Pokemon became alert, but more worryingly, on edge, including Krookodile, who had come out of its Pokeball.

Nanu wasn't sure whether or not to be relieved that he had been right to bring gun.

Nanu and his Pokemon picked their way through the cavern carefully. Nanu found it odd that the wild Pokemon are scarce, but it led to the credence that there was an Ultra Beast lurking near. And that Nanu and his Pokemon were going toward a possibly very dangerous situation.

*Nanu talks to his Pokemon, forming a plan on the go.

Absol and Krookodile lead, Honchkrow keeping an eye out from behind, and Sableye perched on Nanu's shoulder, head and body quivering and jerking as it seemed to keep an eye out as well.

Nanu really felt Persian's loss now, when he noticed he had glanced down to his side several times, as if to see Persian there, walking alongside him.

Sableye gripped Nanu's shoulder, tiny claws digging in lightly, drawing Nanu to the task at hand.

*Nanu tells his Sableye he knows. Still thinks Persian is there, despite knowing it is gone. Hard to accept.

-More?

Nanu picked his way through the cave more carefully, as it was a little darker. The terrain was a little easier for his Pokemon to traverse than himself, but Nanu pushed himself to go on. Nanu had an uneasy feeling come over him the longer he doesn't see any sign of the Ultra Beast or Acerola.

A scream rang out in the distance.

Nanu stumbled over the sound, before he moved as quick as he could in the rocky environment, his Pokemon traveling further ahead more swiftly and easily.

*Nanu cautioned his Pokemon to be careful, before going silent.

Apart from Absol, Nanu knew that he and his Pokemon would treat this as a kidnapping/abduction, and proceed as they would in the past, when they had been in the International Police. But with extra caution because of the possible presence of an Ultra Beast.

Nanu felt that a person had to be responsible.

He knew it.

As far as he was aware, an Ultra Beast didn't go after humans unless they were Fallers, or that human happened to wandered too close to the UB's temporary home. Nanu was certain that Acerola was neither of these, which meant that someone was responsible for putting the young ghost-trial captain in danger. And on purpose, based off the none too subtle threat that was engraved on the teeth he and Looker had both received.

There was another scream, and then the sound of some monstrous nightmare from the past roaring (what does it sound like? Check the anime/cartoon that isn't an AMV).

Nanu and his Pokemon emerge from a narrow tunnel into an enormous cavern. Nanu stopped short when he saw it.

It was the Ultra Beast from 10 years ago, or at least, a similar beast.

*Description of Guzzlord and the way Acerola and her Pokemon are dealing with its presence (this includes Mimi but the Pokemon can't touch the Guzzlord because it is a ghost ghost). Acerola trying to avoid Guzzlord and manages to get out of the way of rubble and attacks as the UB prevented easy escape from the cavern.

Nanu and his Pokemon go into action immediately.

Krookodile and Absol go to attack the Ultra Beast in order to draw the attention off of Acerola.

Absol, Nanu and Sableye head toward Acerola.

"Acerola!" Nanu felt that time slowed as Guzzlord attacked Krookodile and Absol, before it turned toward Nanu and sent the Pokemon flying toward him.

The resulting shock-wave of the creature's attack knocked them all down.

Nanu recovered first, and, like he had done with Zossie, grasped Acerola and tossed her out of the path of danger. Nanu was relieved that a Gengar caught her, and floated in the air to keep her out of reach, more or less, from the Guzzlord.

Nanu wasn't so lucky.

He happened to be right in the path of the angry Ultra Beast now.

"Uncle Nanu!"
