It was two weeks before Avery finally shook off the flu. Erin took the entire time off work to care for her, but sometimes Jay, Voight, Kim or Hailey would spend a couple hours with her so that Erin could shower and catch up on things. Things had been really hectic in their lives lately, with the kidnapping, Erin getting shot and Avery being sick - Erin prayed for Avery's sake that things would calm down. She didn't want her daughter to go back to where she was a few years ago, but she could already see the nightmares becoming more frequent, she could see the constant fear in her eyes, the way she flinched when anyone touched her.

Erin had tried to get Avery in to therapy multiple times, but she'd always refuse to participate - she went for a whole 2 years after she was held by Charlie in the den but didn't say a word during any of the sessions. The best Erin could do was getting family friends to try.

It the morning and Avery was going to school for the first time in ages, and Erin was finally going back to work. Jay had been staying round and Avery knew they were going to talk to her about Jay moving in. Erin and Jay were running round getting ready for work whilst Avery sat on the sofa, yelling at them to hurry up.

"MOM! JAY! HURRY YOUR ASSES UP." Avery yelled.

"LANGUAGE YOUNG LADY!" Erin shouted back. Erin came running in to the kitchen and grabbed her keys. "Right lets go. JAYYYYY!"

Jay joined them at the door and they headed out to the car. Erin got in the driver's side, smirking at Jay who looked most displeased. Erin drove off towards Avery's school, still smiling at how Jay was so grumpy about her driving.

"Remember Aves, no Gym class. Just go to the library instead, study." Erin said, eyeing her daughter in the rear view mirror. Avery rolled her eyes.

"I know, I know." Avery said, leaning her head against the cold glass of the window. "Mom chill out."

Erin arched her eyebrow. "Are you really going to tell me to 'chill out' after what has happened these past few weeks?"

"Let's not go there again..." Avery said.

They pulled up to the school and Avery practically jumped out the car, only waving at Jay and Erin before walking off. Erin laughed, they watched her walk off in to the school. "God, when did she grow up so fast?" Erin said, pulling out of the school and heading to the precinct.

Avery decided to go straight to homeroom. She was in 12th Grade, two years ahead of the rest of her age group, so all her friends were older, but she didn't mind. Avery walked in to the classroom and immediately spotted her two best friends, Lottie and Sophia sitting round a desk. She walked over to them and they squealed when they saw her.

"AVERY!" The girls screamed, hugging her. "We missed you so so much. Where have you been?!" Lottie said.

Avery laughed and hugged them back.

Lottie was 18, she wasn't really very interested in school, and much more interested in boys. She had medium length blonde hair and bright blue eyes, she always seemed to be wearing something slutty. Avery didn't have a clue why Lottie even wanted to be friends with her, but somehow they were really close. She was loud and open

Sophia was 17, and a massive book nerd. She had long, bright ginger, curly hair and a face covered in freckles. She was way more shy than Lottie was, but Avery figured opposites attract.

"Just some stuff with my Mom's work and, then I got flu." Avery shrugged. She really didn't feel like sharing what had happened. Something in her facial expression must've changed because Sophia and Lottie looked at her in concern.

"You wanna talk about anything, Aves?" Sophia said.

She shook her head. "No it's fine."

Lottie and Sophia gave each other side glances, not sure whether or not to push further.

"Well whilst you've been gone..." Lottie started.
