At that same time, Garth was showing Tesla his schematics for the sonic lance. "This is what I want to build."
"Interesting," Tesla replied. "What century are you from, if you don't mind me asking."
"The 40th," Garth replied. "Normally, we would use trisilicate, never mind asking, you won't know what that is, but it's not available here. I was wondering if your transmitted electricity can do the job."
"It's possible," Tesla said. "However, you might have to make some changes to this sonic lance of yours."
"Hey, I'm an engineer," Garth said. "This is my field."
"Good, let's go over the details then."
OOOOOOOO
Sarah Jane, Lynda, and Olga were now at a nearby tavern. "They've done an excellent job at recreating the era," Sarah Jane said as she looked around.
"I guess they want to be reminded of home," Lynda said.
"Da, it is like the world I knew," Olga said.
"That's right, you come from 19th Century New York," Sarah Jane said.
"Russia originally," Olga replied. "Sometimes I wonder what happened there, after I came here."
"You still had family and friends in Russia?" Sarah Jane cautiously asked.
"Da."
Should I tell her about the revolution? Sarah Jane thought. About Lenin? Stalin? The purges? World War II? The 20th Century had not been kind to Olga's homeland, and, even in the 21st, it was still struggling to emerge from the long, dark night the previous century had cast it into. Sarah Jane was about to start telling Olga all this, when she was rescued when Garth came running into the tavern. Never before was Sarah Jane so glad to see Garth Eckersley.
"We can do it!" Garth said as he arrived at the table. "We can make the sonic lance!"
"That is wonderful news!" Olga said as she jumped up and hugged Garth.
"Indeed it is," Garth replied, blushing slightly. "This calls for a celebration. Drinks for everyone, on me!"
"Uh, Garth, everything here is free," Lynda said, laughing. "But it's the thought that counts."
