Chapter Sixteen
Dust settled around her, thick like the collection from a vacuum. Plaster board, and other debris scattered around her. The ringing in her ears was deafening, echoing in her head. The archway to the lounge blocked by rubble of an opposite wall. She hit her head, the blood trickling down her face bringing her back to reality, feeling the sticky red liquid as she touched her cheek. The ringing wouldn't stop, constantly like a siren chasing her, never leaving. Eyes squeezed tightly shut, trying desperately to block out the sounds. Distant cries and muffled voices travelled through the building, footsteps running, the pounding of feet hitting the floors. Slowly it became quieter, the sounds of others running away from her. The exit from the venue was the opposite direction to where she went. She had headed for the back, not the front…help was running further away. She felt it, the stab in her stomach, the cramps so excruciating even her mind couldn't ignore it. Cries leaving her throat, as hot tears stung, mixing with the blood. Water had pooled beneath her, pressure building inside her, realisation hitting her. Her baby was coming, and she was trapped, alone and in pain, no one would hear her cry.
Tony opened his eyes, his head spinning as he pulled himself up. Looking around him he saw Georgie lying in the corner, debris on top of her body, trapping her underneath, not moving. Panic filled Tony, his body shaking as he stood. His first thought was Ziva, where was she, was she safe? He had to go find her, his stomach flipping with somersaults and nausea as he pictured the worst. His eyes hurt as did his head. Somehow, he had escaped relatively unscathed. A gash down his arm and no doubt some bruising, a dizzy head but nothing else. He climbed over part of the ceiling that had fallen with the impact. His mind raced with what had happened. Georgie was still, barely a breath visible. Tony crouched next to her, his hand reaching to feel for a pulse. It was weak but it was there.
"Georgie"
Nothing.
"Georgie, come on open your eyes"
He pleaded with the women, unable to just walk away. He needed to find Ziva, but he couldn't leave this woman to die.
"Come on"
With a shaky breath he pushed back her hair, her face dirty and bloody. He searched her body for serious injuries but found very little. The rubble on top of her upper body didn't appear to cause much bleeding but he couldn't be sure of internal injuries. The gash to her head seemed the worst case, knocked out cold. His heart raced as he gently shook the woman in front of him, talking loudly trying to help he regain consciousness.
"T..tt"
"Hey, hey it's Tony, Georgie open your eyes"
The woman on the floor looked up through hooded lids, her eyes not focussing and quickly fluttering shut.
"No, no, look at me"
"H…hur..t"
"I know, I am going to get help"
"Mmm…n…no"
"I have to, you need to stay awake okay?"
He could see the fear in her eyes, but he was no use just sitting with her. He could walk, he could find someone to help her.
"I will bring help" He repeated, patting her hand and standing.
He ran out the room, being careful of the debris that scattered everywhere. He could see the main hall, the curtains pulled down opening up the space. Guests were running in all directions, some helping others while some just headed for the exit. Tony scanned the room, his chest hurting from fear.
"ZIVA!" He screamed; eyes tickled with tears.
Their table was not where it once was, the room had been totally blasted from the impact of no doubt a bomb. It was strange, the room had almost just been pushed backwards, the impact nearer the front. He looked around, the panic building and making it harder to breath.
"Tony!"
He spun round, trying to find the voice that called him.
"McGee?"
Tim ran to Tony, he was sporting a cut to his head but seemed generally okay, save for a limp no doubt from a fall.
"Where's Ziva?"
"I don't know Tony"
"What do you mean, she was with you?"
Tony was screaming, his face in McGee's all sense of calm thrown out the window.
"She went to get air, she was holding her stomach" McGee admitted, feeling horrendous for not following her.
Tony stared through McGee, trying to wrap his mind around the situation. He could only see red, fuming that his friend had let Ziva go alone.
"I need to find Ziva" Tony snapped, pushing McGee aside. Georgie is in the men's she's hurt, do something and get help" Tony yelled.
"Tony I'm sorry!" McGee cried out as Tony ran away.
Gibbs was pushing past guests, police and paramedics, trying to reach the front where his team was, stopped only by Fornell who was first on the scene.
"Get out my way"
"The building is unstable Jethro"
"Tobias, move or I shoot you"
Fornell sighed, he was not stupid, so he allowed Gibbs through, following behind with his team to work on getting everyone out. Gibbs ran to the table they had sat at, like Tony, he found it across the room, Tony's jacket was still on its chair. He scanned the room, praying his team were okay and just helping others.
"Boss"
Gibbs turned to find McGee stood before him, face pale and eyes tearful, full of shock and fear.
"McGee, you okay?"
"I think so"
"Where's Tony and Ziva…Georgie?"
Tim swallowed hard, trying his best to focus. He was dazed, confused and felt sick with guilt. He was doing all he could not to cry.
"McGee!"
"Georgie is in the men's, she's injured, I erm…I sent help"
"Fine, Tony and Ziva?"
Gibbs voice was desperate, he cared that Georgie was safe, but it was his true team members he worried about.
"Ziva, she didn't feel great…she went for air out the back…"
"Mcgee!"
"She didn't return, Tony…he is so mad, I should have gone with her"
"It's okay Tim, you weren't to know" Gibbs said calmly.
"I need to find them boss"
"You need to get checked out Tim…"
"No, I should have been with Ziva, I am going to find them"
Gibbs couldn't argue, he would do the same. He patted Tim on the back and pushed him forward, happy that he was not physically to injured. The two of them running through the back trying to locate their team.
Ziva was crying in agony, her stomach contracting and cramping in an unbearable pain, combined with the dizziness and head wound she felt awful. She had somehow propped herself up and into a position better for the inevitable. She screamed against each contraction, praying that someone would find her and get her to a hospital soon. Guilt wracked her as she wished she had stayed home, but that was soon mixed with a fear like no other, not just for herself and her baby but for Tony. There was no way for her to know what part of the building was hit the worst. All she knew was the room she sat in was disturbed but intact, the entrance blocked from the distant hit. Nausea hit her from the pain and fear that Tony was hurt somewhere, alone. If she had just looked in the men's, they might have been together. As tears trickled her face, wetting the drying blood, she heard the distant sound of footsteps and shouts. This time they were heading her way. As the sounds grew closer, she recognised the voice, her name being cried from Tony. His lungs screaming with all he had. It broke her heart to her his voice crack as it did.
"T…Tony!" She cried through another contraction.
Silence fell except for the very distant rumble of guest screams and sirens. She wondered if she had been mistaken, had she really heard him.
"TONY!" she cried once more.
Thumping of shoes hit the floor and then she heard him.
"ZIVA, ZIVA I'M HERE!"
"TONY, IN HERE!"
The back and forth screaming became louder and louder, mixed with Ziva's cries as she felt her baby coming. The contraction growing worse and the pressure to push building.
Tony could hear her voice, her cries behind a blockage of supporting wall's that had fallen from the blast. There was a gap to get through, big enough for most but not obvious to Ziva from her side.
"Babe, I'm here, hold tight"
"Tony, hurry…the baby's coming"
Fear filled him further, his mind racing to catch up with reality. Every possible problem that could occur hit him, worry causing nausea to settle deep inside.
"I'm here, hold on"
He used his hands to move some debris, creating a bigger gap to get through without causing anything else to collapse. His phone broken in the explosion he stood no chance of calling for help. As scrapes marred his hands and his shirt tore on a nail, he managed to get through, his eyes burning with tears as he saw Ziva. Heart racing that she was alive, but still petrified by her state. She was curled forward, crying through the pain, holding her stomach as she resisted pushing. Blood dried down her face and her legs cut and bruised. Dust turning her brown locks grey.
"Baby, I'm here, I got you"
His words soothed her a little as he held her in his arms, her body relaxing ever so slightly before tensing through another contraction.
"We need to get you out of here" Tony whispered.
"No, no Tony" Ziva cried, biting her lip in pain.
"Babe…"
"There's no time, the baby's coming now!"
Ziva's eyes only spoke the fear from within her, her hand gripping Tony's in a vice like grip. Face red from pain, tears and blood.
"You need a hospital"
"I need to push Tony; you need to help me" Ziva cried as the fear for her baby's life settled in the pit of her stomach.
Tony looked to her with tears In his eyes, worry across his face as he furrowed his brow. He didn't know how to deliver a baby, worry hitting him like a truck at the mere thought of doing something wrong.
"Zee"
"Arghhhhhh" Ziva whined, contorting into a ball.
"Okay, okay…breath, we got this"
Tony repeated this a few times, unsure if he was telling himself of Ziva. He edged down her body, moving her legs in place and removing her underwear. He had no idea what he was doing, but he tried to control his breathing, not wanting to scare Ziva anymore than she already was.
"Arghhhhhhh"
"Come on you got this, push baby"
"AHHHHHHHH!"
Gibbs and McGee ran down the corridors when they heard screaming. It sounded familiar, making both men stop in their tracks.
"Boss"
"Ziver"
The men ran, not stopping to look back, just following the sounds of cries. Both knew instantly what predicament Ziva and Tony were in. The got to the debris Tony had moved aside, moving through it to see Tony holding their baby girl to his chest, Ziva crying and panicked and Tony staring at Gibbs wide eyed and petrified.
"She…she's not crying" Tony choked out, tears cascading freely down his cheeks.
