Chapter 17:Good Day For Marrying You
Sofia's POV
It had been five months since my mothers had announced that they had decided to get married again. Today was the D-day, the day when they were going once again to unite their lives and show their love to the rest of the world.
They had rented a large mansion a few hundred miles from New York and in that magical place they would get married. This had the advantage of allowing all their friends to come from Seattle and not have to find a hotel.
A little before the beginning of the ceremony, all the guests settled in the garden of the manor house where the wedding venue had been set up. April had taken care of all the arrangements and she had done a magnificent job.
The whole altar had been strewn with white flowers, flower petals had been placed everywhere, and the chairs on which the guests sat had been covered with white and gold sheets.
Five minutes later, the moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived: they both walked down the aisle, hand in hand. They were so beautiful, I knew very well that their tears were nothing but tears of happiness.
After this moment that shone with happiness and emotion, they both arrived in front of the priest and it was then that the ceremony could finally start.
"Ladies and gentlemen, if we are gathered here today," he started, "it is to celebrate the union and the love that exists between Arizona and Callie. One could say that getting married a second time is probably not a good thing to do, that it adds pressure, that if it didn't work the first time it will never work. However, I disagree with that. To me, it's a very good thing. First of all, it exempts me from saying the things that have already been said during their first wedding."
On hearing the joke that the priest had just said, the whole audience began to laugh. That man was really funny.
"Second, that means Arizona and Callie have found the courage and dedication not to give up on their marriage completely. The two of them made mistakes which led to their divorce, but they fought back and rebuilt something solid. We all need to be inspired by what they did and what they are doing."
Besides being funny, the man was telling the truth. Both my mothers had fought to make this work and this marriage was the culmination of their struggle.
"We will now proceed to the exchange of vows." The priest announced.
"For years and years," Mummy began by putting the ring on Mama's finger, "I considered that life was only worth living or that you only deserved love under certain conditions: if you were useful, if you saved children, if you served your country, if you helped the people around you. It was also hard for me to get attached to people, I probably considered that people only mattered during the time they were near me and that the bond would be broken as soon as I left. Calliope, the last few years have shown me that I was wrong. They showed me that real bonds or feelings continue even when we are apart, that they continue even in adversity. Even though we've been apart, even though we've fought, know that I have never stopped loving you and I will never stop loving you, Calliope."
"Arizona, my love," Mama continued, putting the ring on Mummy's finger, "you are the person who makes me happy, who makes all my awakenings magical, who understands me better than anyone else and who teaches me a little more about myself every day. You taught me to see the world in an optimistic way and you showed me that fairy tales exist. You are the person who makes me happy every day and I hope to be that person for you too."
"You are that person for me." Mummy interrupted her.
"I pledge to spend every day of my life making our relationship shine, writing your name in the heavens, and making sure we have the best family in the world. I pledge that the end of our fairy tale will not be "They divorced after a few years," but "They lived happily ever after and had many children"."
"Thank you for these greetings and thank you for sharing the love you have for each other." The priest said, visibly moved by their vows. "We will now proceed to the exchange of consents. Arizona Robbins, do you take Calliope Iphigenia Torres to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to be faithful to her in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, to love and honour her every day of your life?"
"I do." Mummy replied without taking his eyes off Mama.
"Calliope Iphigenia Torres, do you take Arizona Robbins to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to be faithful to her in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, to love and honour her every day of your life?"
"I do!"
"In that case," the priest concluded, "you may kiss the bride!"
Callie's POV
We had finally done it; we were married again and had finally returned to the status that suited us best. During the party, while I was dancing with Sofia, Arizona came up to me, put a kiss on my cheek and then offered to go look at the stars in the mansion garden. The three of us lay down.
"Sweetheart," Arizona asked me, "were you really serious when you said you wanted to have a lot of kids with me?"
"Of course I was serious, I want a child with you."
"Why don't we try again?"
"We could try again."
