Bonus 2: Summer is for fun

Author's note: This scene would take place in the summer of the second year of college and is totally invented by me.

[Yuiga's house. In the morning]

Hanae: Nariyuki, we still have many watermelons, why don't you give a few to Kirisu sensei, she lives nearby, doesn't she?

Nariyuki: Yes, her apartment is a five minute away, so I'll take them on the way to the library.

[Mafuyu's apartment]

Nariyuki: (Knocks on door)

Mafuyu: (Opens)

Nariyuki: (Leaving the heavy box on the floor and looking up unintentionally from bottom to top. She's wearing summer pajamas, shorts and a shirt)

Mafuyu: (Looking at him with a murderous gaze) (Threatening) Yuiga-kun?

Nariyuki: (Embarrassed) Sorry, sensei, I didn't mean to! ...It's just that... (Flushed) I was surprised to see you like this... as you always wear an old tracksuit...

Mafuyu: (Upset) It's too hot for that. Why did you come?

Nariyuki: My mother won a raffle at the supermarket and I brought you this (shows her the inside of the box).

Mafuyu: (A little surprised) Watermelons! Thank you! Would you mind leaving the box inside?

Nariyuki: (Closing and taking the box) Sure.

Mafuyu: Here is fine.

Nariyuki: (Drops the box in the kitchen)

Mafuyu: Come in, I'll invite you a drink to thank you for the gift.

Nariyuki: Don't worry. Besides, if I don't hurry, there won't be a single free place in the library, and it's too hot to study at home.

Mafuyu: Why don't you stay here? I have to go out and buy some things, so you'll have the whole apartment to yourself, and you can put in the air conditioning.

Nariyuki: But-

Mafuyu: Don't worry about anything, it's the least I can do after all you've done for me.

Nariyuki: (Smiles) Thank you, sensei. (He sits down and takes out his books) (Smiles) So many memories... (Looks around, is surprised and thinks: "Wow, it's all clean and tidy! I wonder if she has been using the notebook I gave her?")

Mafuyu: (Serves him a glass and leaves the jar on the table) Here you have, it's a cocktail I made this morning.

Nariyuki: (Surprised) Eh... Sensei, are you sure about that? I mean... I'm not 20 yet.

Mafuyu: (Looks at him) Stupid, it's a fruit juice cocktail. (Nariyuki laughs a little, relieved) I would never give alcohol to a minor, especially when he has to study.

Nariyuki: Thank you, sensei. (Tastes it and is surprised) Mmm! Yummy! (Mafuyu smiles) It's actually homemade?

Mafuyu: (Throws him a murderous glance)

Nariyuki: (Embarrassed) Sorry, I shouldn't have asked that. (He starts to study)

(...)

Mafuyu: (Leaves the bathroom in a short white dress, tight to the chest and sheer in the bottom)

Nariyuki: (Stares at her astonished and blushes)

Mafuyu: (She realizes, blushes and looks away)

Nariyuki: Sorry. I've never seen you dressed informally before, when we met last summer...

Mafuyu: When we met last summer I was on the way to school, not to the supermarket. (Putting on a pair of sandals to go out) She takes advantage of the time to study.

(...)

(Mafuyu arrives with the heavy bags and Nariyuki helps her)

Mafuyu: Thank you.

Nariyuki: (Serves her a glass of cocktail)

Mafuyu: (Taking the glass) Thank you. (Drinks it all at once) If you don't mind, Yuiga-kun, I'm going to take a shower before I place things, it's too hot in the street. You just concentrate on your studies.

(...)

[Around 13:00]

Nariyuki: (Looks at the clock and puts away the books) Sensei, I'm think I'm leaving, it's a bit late, thank you for inviting me to study.

Mafuyu: (Comes out of the kitchen with the apron on and the spatula in her hand) (Disappointed) Leaving? I have already prepared the food, I made for two.

Nariyuki: (Surprised) For two? Thank you.

Mafuyu: Can you clean the table while I serve the food?

Nariyuki: Sure.

Mafuyu: (Bringing the bowls)

Nariyuki: (Tastes it and surprises a bit) Wow! You've really improved a lot in the kitchen in this time, sensei.

Mafuyu: (Smiles slightly)

Nariyuki: (Laughs) Maybe I should teach Furuhashi now.

Mafuyu: If you want you can come here tomorrow to study and cook something together.

Nariyuki: (Surprised) Are you serious?

Mafuyu: Sure.

Nariyuki: (Pulling out his cell phone) I'm going to text Furuhashi.

Nariyuki: Hi, Furuhashi! I came to Kirisu sensei's apartment to bring her the left watermelons and she just asked me if you would like to come tomorrow to study and cook at her house, like that time when we were preparing for entrance exam

Fumino: 😮 It's everything ok?

Nariyuki: Sure! Why?

Fumino: It's weird that she just said that. We're not her students anymore. Maybe she misses us? Or maybe she has no one to make plans with and is bored at home alone?

Nariyuki: Both reasons sound quite sad and pathetic 😅. Anyway, do you want to come tomorrow?

I'd love to, but I can't 😭. My dad has a seminar and I can't get out 😔 💡❗ Hey! How about study and cook at my house? My dad won't be arriving till Saturday noon. We can also invite Uruka, Ricchan, Sekijou and Kominami-senpai

Nariyuki: That's a good idea!

Fumino: And at night we can have a sleep-over to play Rizu's games and see the stars 😍 And on Friday we can go to the beach, so we can exercise and study, it's a win-win 😉

Nariyuki: Well, maybe that's a bit too much 😅

Mafuyu: What did Furuhashi tell you?

Nariyuki: She told me that her father is at a seminar until Saturday and she can't leave the house, but that we can all go and study there if we like.

Mafuyu: To Furuhashi's house? That's a good idea, it's bigger than my apartment and it has at a proper table, so you can study better there.

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) Furuhashi also suggested having a sleepover to play Rizu's games, see the stars and go to the beach, but...

Mafuyu: That's a good idea.

Nariyuki: (Surprised) What?

Mafuyu: Ogata's games involve emotional and psychological aspects of the human beings, in one way or another it will help her practice or review and it will allow us to check her progress in her studies; and the same goes with the stars for Furuhashi, she can explain to us things she has learned in college while we enjoy a beautiful starry night sky. And I think the beach is a good idea too, Takemoto can practice and we can help you and Ogata. Also, if we choose a quiet beach, you'll be able to study too.

Nariyuki: (Surprised) Wow, sensei, you really know how to see the potential in things. To be honest, I thought you'd say no.

Mafuyu: Why would I? It's all advantages, and besides, it's the best way to make the most of your summer vacation. Studying like this will be more fun, and not all learning has to be related to studying. Sport and cooking are two essential areas for everyday life, and learning about other subjects is always interesting.

(...)

[In the evening]

Nariyuki: (leaving) Thank you for inviting me to study today, sensei, I made good use of the day and it was fun. See you tomorrow. Don't forget to prepare a bag with everything you need. And if you have two swimsuits, bring a spare just in case.

Mafuyu: (Blushes embarrassed) Forget about that, Yuiga-kun, I should never have had a blunder like that.

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) See you tomorrow, sensei.

Mafuyu: Good night. (Closes the door and smiles)

(...)

[In the morning. In front of Fumino's house]

(All arrive)

Asumi: (Laughs mischievously) Oh, that's Mafuyu sensei, what are you doing here?

Mafuyu: Furuhashi invited me.

Fumino: (Comes out to meet them) (Smiling and happy) Hi everyone, come in.

(They come in)

Uruka: (Happy) It's as big as I remember!

Mafuyu: (A little surprised) Wow, Furuhashi, you have a beautiful house.

Fumino: (Smiles) It's not that great.

Asumi: (A little surprised) This place is bigger than our house and clinic together.

Fumino: (Laughs a little)

Nariyuki: (Taking out the books) Well, let's study.

(...)

(They study while Mafuyu reads a book, breaking her concentration from time to time to look at them)

(...)

(About six o'clock)

Fumino: (Closing the book) What would you like to eat?

Rizu: Udon.

Fumino: (Laughs a little)

Nariyuki: Anything is fine.

Fumino: Why don't we start by choosing what we're going to eat tomorrow? That way we don't repeat. When you spend the day at the beach you have to bring a lot of food and snacks, so the best thing is that everyone says something and that way we have a little bit of everything.

Nariyuki: Okay. I say sandwiches.

Asumi: Onigiris.

Sawako: Skewers.

Uruka: Fried chicken.

Fumino: French fries.

Mafuyu: Watermelon.

Rizu: Kakigori.

Fumino: I think it's a good menu. The skewers, the fried chicken and the onigiris can be made tonight, so tomorrow we only have to make the sandwiches.

Nariyuki: Good idea. I'll start by washing the vegetables for the skewers.

Mafuyu: That's a lot, I'll give you a hand.

Fumino: I'll put the rice for the rice balls on the rice cooker.

Uruka: I'll start with the fried chicken.

Rizu: I'm going to prepare udon for dinner.

Sawako: I'll help you, Rizu Ogata.

Asumi: I'll clear up and set the table and then help Furuhashi.

(...)

(While cooking)

Uruka: It's fun to make food together.

Nariyuki: Yes, it's really fun and relaxing. And doing something together after all this time... makes me happy.

Asumi: (In mocking tone) Wow, are you nostalgic, Kohai?

Mafuyu: (Smiles wistfully) I feel the same way; we haven't done anything like this since your graduation trip.

Rizu: That's right!

Fumino: Let's hope there are no incidents this time (laughs).

Nariyuki: Don't worry, as long as you stay away from knives and Kirisu sensei doesn't trip over anyone or fall down the stairs everything will be fine (laughs).

Fumino and Mafuyu: (Hitting Nariyuki with a cloth and pouting upset)

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) What?

Mafuyu: (Justifying herself) That time it was because I was wearing a yukata.

Fumino: Now that you mention the yukata, there's going to be a matsuri on Friday night, how about we all go?

Uruka: Great!

Rizu: I have to go; my father is going to put the udon stand at the festival this year as well.

Asumi: And my father the first aids station. (Looking at Mafuyu and Nariyuki with a crooked grin) Although I hope I won't see any of you here this year.

Sawako: I'll be with Rizu, helping them with the stall (dreamer) and enjoying how beautiful my girlfriend is dressed in a yukata.

(Everyone is a little surprised)

Rizu: (Blushes)

Asumi: (Gives them a mischievous smile)

Uruka: (Surprised) Gi-girlfriend? (Happy) Since when?

Sawako: (Looking at the clock) (Excited) Since one year, seventeen days, one hour and twenty-four minutes ago.

(Everyone looks at her perplexed by her fanaticism)

Nariyuki: I already told my mother that I would go with the twins, because she's going to work that night.

Mafuyu: And I agreed to go with Miharu.

Fumino: Well, then we'll all go, even if we disperse a little bit we can agree to watch the fireworks together.

Mafuyu: (Lows her head and smiles)

Nariyuki: (Looks at his hand, closes it and looks at Mafuyu)

(...)

(They play while eating the udon prepared by Rizu and Sawako)

Nariyuki: I'll start. (Draws a card) "What's the difference between living and existing? (Thinks) For me it's the purpose. As long as you have dreams to fulfill and goals to achieve and you fight for them, you'll have a meaningful life.

Rizu: Good answer.

Mafuyu: My turn. (Draws a card) "When did you realize you had entered adulthood?" (Thinks) I think it was the first time I wasn't able to meet my own and other people's expectations, and I fell apart. Seeing that I had no one to count on and no one to talk to about my problems and concerns, I realized not only that I was alone, but also that I was going to have to get by on my own because I was an adult and had no one by my side.

Rizu: (Surprised) Wow, Kirisu sensei, I never thought I'd hear you say something like that.

Asumi: (Surprised) You have not only been sincere, but you have also admit your mistakes and told us about your past.

Mafuyu: (Smiles sadly) Thanks to the mistakes of my past I know what I want in the present.

Rizu: (Surprised) And one thing, Kirisu sensei, do you still feel that way?

Mafuyu: (Thinks) (Serious) Well, when I hesitate or when I fail I still come down a little bit, like everyone else. But not like the first time, now it's much easier for me to overcome difficult situations.

Rizu: And do you still feel that you're alone and have no one to count on?

Mafuyu: (Lows her head)

Rizu: (Waits) (Seeing that she doesn't answer) Kirisu sensei, you haven't answered my question.

Mafuyu: I'm just not sure of the answer. (She stands up) I just need time to think about it. (She leaves)

Nariyuki: (He gets up and goes after her)

(Nariyuki finds Mafuyu sitting in the garden, head against her knees)

Nariyuki: Sensei...

Mafuyu: Leave me alone, Yuiga-kun.

Nariyuki: No, I won't do that. That was exactly the problem. I'm sorry.

Mafuyu: (Raises her head to look at him) What are you talking about?

Nariyuki: It's obvious that if you haven't answered to the question, it's because you now feel the same way again. (Makes a small pause) Or am I wrong? (Waits, but Mafuyu doesn't give him an answer) Even though I am at university now, I want you to know that you can count on me if you need me. And I know that you are not the type of person who shares her feelings and concerns with others easily, but if you ever need to, you can talk to me if you want to. And I'm sure Miharu would be very happy if you open your heart and talk to her when you are down or worried about something too. I know her personality doesn't inspire confidence, but you are sisters after all, and I know from experience that when one sibling needs help, the other sibling will be there for you.

Mafuyu: (Smiles) Thank you, Yuiga-kun.

Nariyuki: Sometimes keeping things to yourself only hurts you more, so it's better to talk about it. Now that you've answered the question, sensei, I think it's time for us to go back, they're probably waiting for us to draws the next card. Now that you have answered the question, sensei, I think it is time for us to come back, they are probably waiting for us to draw the next card. And besides, our dinner is going to get cold (smiles).

(She stands up and they enter)

Nariyuki: You can draw the next card now.

Uruka: Okay. It's my turn.

(Fumino looks at Mafuyu and then at Nariyuki)

Uruka: (Draws a card) "What's the craziest thing you've ever done for love?" (Smiles sadly and looks at Nariyuki) Give up.

Nariyuki: (Turns his face uneasy)

Sawako: My turn. (Draws a card) "Do you consider yourself a happy person?" (Without even having to think about it) "Happy"? I'm living the best moment of my life: I'm studying at the university the degree I want, my teachers and classmates are amazing, for a year and a half I've been living in the same apartment as the perfect and unique Rizu Ogata, I study and eat in the cafeteria with Rizu Ogata and now we've been a couple for a year, seventeen days, two hours and twenty-seven minutes.

Rizu: According to this game and what I've studied in Psychology, Sawako has a slight level of obsession with me (Nariyuki thinks: "Just slight?"), she tends to idealize me and her affection for me is sincere even though it can sometimes be insane. But despite those problems, she is a happy person who values what she has around her.

(Everyone is a little surprised to hear this)

Sawako: "Problems"?

Rizu: Yes, problems, a normal person doesn't count the hours and minutes since she started dating her her girlfriend, nor have a monument in her room in her honor.

Fumino: (Laughs a little) Next question. (Draws a card) "If we learn from our mistakes, why are we afraid to make them? (Thinks) I think it's because of the fear of failure, but not because of the fact of failure itself, but because of what it involves: not meeting our expectations, disappointing those people who believed in us, the fear of not achieving what we want, the fear of what people will say, the consequences of failure...

Rizu: Yes, I think it is that.

Asumi: It's my turn (Draws a card). "What are your fears?" Well, I guess failing as a doctor. I wouldn't want to see a patient suffer from a bad diagnosis or inadequate treatment, or worst, to die from a disease that had a cure.

Nariyuki: (Quietly, almost as a whisper) You're missing one thing.

Asumi: (Annoyed) Shut up, Kohai!

Rizu: What else are you afraid of, Kominami-senpai?

Asumi: (Annoyed) Nothing!

Rizu: There's nothing wrong with admitting it. I used to be afraid of can't be able to understand people and study what I wanted, and I'm overcome that now. But I'm still scared of paranormal things, even though Misao-chan wasn't that scary.

Asumi: (Confused) "Misao-chan"?

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) It's a long story.

Rizu: It's my turn now, but first you have to finish answering the question, Kominami-senpai. If you don't do it, I'll ask Nariyuki directly.

Asumi: (Annoyed) All right, all right! I don't like rodents. (Annoyed) I said it! Are you happy now?!

Rizu: Yes. It's a normal fear and not much different from Kirisu sensei's fear of cock-

Mafuyu: (Unsettled) Don't say it! Don't you dare name those filthy creatures, Ogata-san!

Rizu: Your fears are understandable, but you both still react like two kids. (Asumi and Mafuyu pout, annoyed) But I understand you, just thinking about ghosts scares me. (Draws a card) "When was the last time you cried in front of someone else? And alone?" (Think) Well, in from of someone else, yesterday, when Sawako and I saw a movie at the cinema. And alone... I don't really remember; it's been a long time since I've feel actually lonely. If I'm upset about something, I talk it over with Sawako, and we usually watch series and movies together, so when I get emotional, I'm not alone either.

Nariyuki: Now it's my turn again. (Draws a card) "What would you do if you won the lottery? (Without even stopping to think about it) I'd buy a better house for my family, and if there was any money left, I'd use the rest to help Mizuki pay for college.

Rizu: You're a good son, a good brother, a good friend, a good classmate and a good person. You always think of others first.

Nariyuki: (Smiles)

Mafuyu: My turn. (Draws a card) "If you were to die tonight without being able to communicate with anyone, what would you regret most about not having told anyone? Why haven't you told that person yet? (Without even stopping to think) Passes the turn.

Rizu: That's not allowed in this game.

Mafuyu: In that case I don't mind admitting my defeat.

Rizu: You can't lose in this game, and you can't win either. It's a game to practice what I know about psychology and to get to know others. So answer the question.

Mafuyu: I'd rather die.

Rizu: Kirisu sensei, don't force me to give you alcohol to talk. If I had to make a diagnosis I would say without a doubt that you are a person who tends to repress her feelings and emotions, who doesn't share her thoughts and problems with others and who acts like a cold person because she doesn't like to be seen as someone vulnerable. (Mafuyu surprises a bit) I don't know you well enough to be sure about it, and I don't know much about your past, but your problems are probably due to some kind of emotional trauma. If you're not going to see a psychologist, you should at least open up to us.

Mafuyu: (Annoyed) Of course, so you can laugh at me.

Nariyuki: No one will laugh, sensei.

Rizu: We are all human and we all have obsessions, fears and traumas as well as dreams and ambitions. Being an adult doesn't mean you have to hide them or be weaker if you admit them. In fact, it's better to learn how to handle emotions from childhood and to talk about things, otherwise we become adults with problems. So if you don't mind, answer the question.

Mafuyu: (Resigned) Okay... Well, what I would regret most is not having told the people I love how important they are to me. And why I haven't told them I suppose it's for fear of how they might react and for fear that it might change something between us.

Asumi: (Mischievous) Uhh... The last part sounds like you're in love with someone, Mafuyu sensei...

Mafuyu: (Annoyed and upset) See?! That's why I didn't want to say anything!

Rizu: (Looks at Asumi serious and upset) If you bother her again, I'll throw you out of Fumino's house.

Asumi: (She leaves her speechless)

Rizu: (Looking at Mafuyu) Ignoring Kominami-senpai's comment, which doesn't necessarily have to be true, I think that in your case it's normal to think that way. You're a rather reticent person and don't usually show your emotions. You act cold with us for three years and didn't tell us how you really felt until after we had finished our exams and entered the university we wanted. If you act in the same way with your family, you are probably right to think that. If you're the same cold as a daughter than as a teacher, your parents and sister would probably be scared if you suddenly told them that you love them and how important they are to you, they'd probably think you were drunk or dying or something similar. If you want to change that, I recommend you open up gradually. There is more than one way to show love, and not all of them are equally obvious. A simple visit to your parents' house, a call or a message to meet a friend you haven't seen for a while, or giving a gift or a compliment to someone you care about are also ways to show affection to the people you love.

Mafuyu: (Surprised, smiles) Thank you, Ogata-san. And I'm sorry, I was wrong about you. Thanks to your own efforts and Yuiga-kun's help, you managed to get into the degree you wanted and you have have made progress and learned a lot since then. I'm proud of both of you, of Yuiga for achieving what I didn't even bother to try because I thought it was impossible, and of you for all the progress you've made in these two and a half years, I'm sure that when you finish your degree you'll be a good psychologist.

Rizu: (Moved) Sensei...

Nariyuki: (Smiles touched as he watches Mafuyu open up and Ogata-san gets emotional to hear what she thinks)

Asumi: (Mischievous) And do you think the same about the rest?

Mafuyu: Well, I know Yuiga-kun has is made to be teacher and his choice is vocational despite his influences, Takemoto has always proved to be an excellent swimmer and Sekijou has always stood out in the field of chemistry. I know Furuhashi loves the stars and I expect that tonight we will check if she is qualified to be a good astronomer and you, Kominami, I suppose you have experience and previous knowledge because of your parents' work, but I cannot judge for myself yet either.

Asumi: (Smiles) And you better not, sensei. I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

Mafuyu: (Smiles)

Uruka: Well, answered that question I guess it's my turn. (Draws a card) "What do you do when you feel sad, and angry? (Think a little) Well, in both cases it would be the same: cry or scream, eat, swim and talk to my friends. I think it's not healthy to repress emotions. Eating and swimming always cheers me up, and talk to my friends always helps me because we find a solution together.

Rizu: I think it's a healthy way to deal with problems, as long as the food isn't all junk.

Uruka: (Laughs) No, why eat junk food when you can cook something yourself or eat your mother's delicious home-cooked food?

Nariyuki: (Smiles) That's true, when I'm tired or down, Mizuki's food always cheers me up.

Uruka: (Smiles) See? That's what I mean, nothing like home-cooked food.

Rizu: Right, when I'm sad or angry I always eat udon, and the food that Sawako and Sawako's mom prepare is delicious.

Sawako: (Smiles) That's right! Now it's my turn. (Draws a card) "Which of the people here would you have liked to meet since you were a child? (Without even thinking about it) Rizu Ogata, of course! It would have been great to be friends since childhood and go to kindergarten, school and middle school together and study and play together every day after school and in holidays.

Fumino: (Laughs a little) (Draws a card) "What makes you happy?" Well, that's easy: eat, sleep, look at the stars, learn about topics I like, read, write and study or make fun plans with friends.

Asumi: (Smiles) Okay, my turn. (Draws a card) "How would you describe yourself in a few words?" (Thinks a little) Well, persistent, hard-working, teaser and a little stubborn.

Rizu: My turn. (Draws a card) "What makes you feel upset?" (Thinks) Not understanding things or people's feelings, losing in games all the time and people being rude to me or having bad intentions.

Fumino: (Emits a shout of emotion and everyone is startled)

Mafuyu: What's happened?

Fumino: The stars are showing! Let's go to the roof, quickly!

(Everyone goes up and Nariyuki takes a blanket)

Fumino: (Arrives running excited and stares at the stars)

(Everyone sits down to look at the stars and Fumino starts telling them facts and explanations)

(...)

Mafuyu: (Dropping over Yuiga's shoulder half asleep, smiles) Furuhashi, I'm sure you'll be a good astronomer. (She falls asleep)

Nariyuki: (Realizes she fell asleep on his shoulder) Sensei...!

Asumi: (Laughs mischievously) Wow, you're pretty lucky, Kohai.

Fumino: Why don't we stay here and sleep tonight?

Uruka: On the rooftop?

Fumino: Yes.

Asumi: I think that's a good idea.

Sawako: (With Rizu sleeping on her shoulder) Sleeping under the stars with Rizu Ogata? (Excited) How romantic! It's like a dream come true...

Uruka: I'll go get some pillows and blankets.

Fumino: I'll show you where I keep them.

Asumi: I'll give you a hand. Kohai, you'd better not move.

(...)

[In the morning, around five o'clock in the morning]

(Rizu sleeps hugging Sawako, Uruka sleeps with her back to Asumi and hugging Nariyuki, Fumino babbles in his sleep over the stars and Mafuyu sleeps holding one of Nariyuki's hands)

Asumi: (Wakes up and turns around) (Mischievous) Wow, you're pretty lucky, Kohai.

Nariyuki: (Wakes up) (Half asleep) Huh?

Asumi: (Pointing at them)

Nariyuki: (Startles) Wh-What is it?!

(Wakes up everyone unintentionally, except Fumino)

Mafuyu and Uruka: (Half asleep) Huh?

Rizu: Nariyuki, you're yelling too much, it's still early.

Sawako: (Threatening) Don't scare Rizu again, or I'll make you regret.

Asumi: That reminds me, we didn't have a pillow fight. It's a must at any sleepover. (Looks mischievously at Mafuyu and Rizu out of the corner of her eye) Bad luck some of you fell asleep quickly.

Uruka: I have an idea! (She runs out and comes back with a bunch of pillows) (She leaves them on the floor and throws one to Nariyuki and one to Fumino) It's time to get up, Fuminocchi!

Fumino: (Wakes up a bit startled and settles down) (Joking) Do you wanna play? (She throws the pillow at her with a wicked smile)

Rizu: Be careful not to throw any of them out of the house or into the garden.

Uruka: Don't be a party pooper, Rizurin. (Throws pillow at her)

Rizu: (Pouts and throws pillows at Uruka and Sawako)

Mafuyu: (Sighs) And who's going to wash all this later?

Asumi: Don't be bitter, sensei. Have some fun. (Throws pillow at her)

Uruka: It's true, sensei, just because you're an adult doesn't mean you're not allowed to play. (Throws pillow at him)

Mafuyu: (Resigned) If this is what you want... (Smiles evilly and throws a pillow at each one, with force)

Nariyuki: (Smiling and thinking: "I'm glad to see that everyone is having fun, even Ogata and Kirisu sensei are playing without any worries, that makes me happy. And on the other hand, they all look adorable") (Smiles)

Asumi: What are you thinking about, pervert Kohai?

(Everyone throws a pillow at Nariyuki and he throws them back)

(...)

Fumino: (Tired) Hey, don't you think it's time for breakfast yet?

Rizu: (Even more tired) Yes, but something cold, please.

Mafuyu: We can make smoothies and crepes or frozen fruit ice cream.

Uruka: I choose ice cream.

Asumi: Yes, but with toppings.

Fumino: Fine! Kirisu sensei, Ogata and Sekijou can make the ice creams for breakfast while Uruka and I make the sandwiches for lunch. Nariyuki, Kominami-senpai, can you collect the pillows, change the covers and wash them?

Nariyuki: Yes, no problem. I'll put the blankets in the washer too. Today is hot, they'll dry quickly.

Mafuyu: What kind of ice cream do you want?

Fumino: Chocolate.

Rizu: Mango.

Uruka: Mango too.

Asumi: I'll have strawberry.

Nariyuki: Chocolate.

Sawako: Mango.

Mafuyu: 3 chocolate, 2 strawberry and 3 mango then.

Rizu: No, chocolate is two, one for Nariyuki and one for Fumino.

Mafuyu: No, it's three: one for Yuiga and two for Furuhashi.

Fumino: (Looks at her)

Mafuyu: You don't have to be a genius to realize that you always have seconds.

(...)

(Everyone eats breakfast)

Fumino: (Surprised) Mmmmm! It's so good!

Asumi: That's not bad for you, sensei.

Mafuyu: (Staring at her upset) What do you mean by that?

Asumi: (Laughs) Nothing, nothing.

(...)

(They are outside with everything ready to go to the beach)

Mafuyu: Oops, I didn't realize, the car is for five and we are seven. If we didn't have food, two could go in the trunk.

Asumi: No need to do anything illegal or improper, sensei, I have the scooter.

Nariyuki: (Quickly) I'll go with you.

Asumi: (Laughs mischievously) Kohai, you're so daring.

Nariyuki: It's not what you think. I just don't want to feel sick when we arrive to the beach.

Asumi: Sensei, please drive slowly at least during the outbound journey, I don't want to eat mochi, crumbs and watermelon juice when we get there.

(...)

(They arrive. Uruka runs out of the car, takes off her clothes and jumps into the water)

Asumi: If a wave takes her clothes, I won't run to avoid it.

Nariyuki: We've been through worse.

(Mafuyu and Asumi blush as they remember)

Sawako: (Taking Ogata by the arm) Come on, Rizu Ogata, I'll show you how to swim.

Asumi: I want to dive a bit.

Mafuyu: Yuiga-kun, how's your swimming going? Have you improved any since high school?

Nariyuki: (Laughs a little) I don't think so.

Mafuyu: Okay, come with me, I'll help you.

Nariyuki: (Nervously) Huh?

(...)

Asumi: (Dives, but stops when she sees a seaweed, smiles mischievously and picks it up; comes up to breath, sink again and throws the seaweed at Nariyuki's foot)

Nariyuki: (Screams scared and jumps over Mafuyu, making both of them sink and swallow water)

Asumi: (Surfacing, laughing a lot) You've fallen for the old algae trick, Kohai. (She shows it to him) You should have seen your faces.

(...)

(Asumi studies in the sand while Fumino takes a nap and the rest are still in the water)

(...)

[At noon]

(All come for lunch)

Uruka: How are those classes going?

Rizu: Bad.

Mafuyu: Yuiga is slowly progressing.

Nariyuki: Yes, but after Kominami-senpai's joke I don't even want to see the onigiris.

Uruka: (She is perplexed because she didn't realize because she was swimming far away) Huh?

Fumino: (Excited) This is my favorite time of day.

(All have lunch together) (After lunch, they study for a couple of hours)

Uruka: (Frustrated) Ugh, I can't wait anymore! I'm going back to water!

Mafuyu: I think I'll go too.

Nariyuki: I want to study a bit more.

Rizu: Me too. Kirisu sensei, Sawako, you can swim now, it'll be more difficult with us later.

Mafuyu: Okay.

Asumi: How about a swimming competition? Takemoto, you're out, it's just for amateurs.

Fumino: Sounds fun!

Sawako: I'm in.

Mafuyu: (Resigned) Whatever.

(...)

Asumi: If I had known I was going to lose, I wouldn't have said anything.

Fumino: You didn't lose, you finished third, and you can't blame yourself, Sekijou and Kirisu sensei are very fast.

Sawako: I have a lot of energy.

Mafuyu: You should use it properly to help Ogata. To be honest, the fact that she and Yuiga-kun can't swim at almost 20 is pretty embarrassing.

(...)

[In the afternoon]

(They play at splitting watermelon and eat watermelon)

(...)

(Around six o'clock)

Rizu: I have to go back now; my father has probably been waiting for me for a long time. I'm going to text him.

(All look at their phones)

Nariyuki and Mafuyu: (Surprised) 15 messages and 20 missed calls?!

Asumi: Have you two thought about introducing your sisters? I'm sure they'd get along well.

(...)

(In front of Mafuyu's apartment)

Miharu: (Dressed in a pink and green yukata) (Nervous) Nee-sama! Finally! I've been waiting here for almost an hour! Haven't you seen any of my messages and calls?

Mafuyu: Yes, I saw them right before I came, but I thought it was faster to come directly rather than wasting time answering.

Miharu: You had me worried. Where were you?

Mafuyu: I went to the beach with some friends.

Miharu: (Surprised) That's not usual for you, (smiles) but I'm glad you were having fun, did you have a good time?

Mafuyu: Yes, but let's hurry, I have to take a shower and get ready before the matsuri.

Miharu: I'll help you with the yukata, and I can do your hair while you do your make-up.

(...)

Mafuyu: (Leaves shower in towel)

Miharu: (Surprised) Nee-sama! You're all burnt out! Didn't you use sun cream?

Mafuyu: (While helping her put on the yukata) Of course I did. I think it was too many hours...

(Miharu adjusts his obi and Mafuyu emits one of his classic screams)

Miharu: (In reproach) Nee-sama...!

Mafuyu: Sorry, it hurts. (She shouts again)

(...)

(Miharu and Mafuyu leave for the matsuri)

Hazuki and Kazuki: Mafuyu chan!

(Both turn around)

Nariyuki: Miharu, Kirisu sensei!

Mafuyu: Yuiga-kun, you're all burned!

Kazuki: (Laughs) Yeah, Onii-chan looks like a raccoon.

Miharu: Onii-chan? Are they your siblings?

Hazuki: Yes, I'm Hazuki, the older twin.

Kazuki: And I'm Kazuki, the younger twin.

Hazuki: You're Mafuyu-chan's sister?

Miharu: Yes, I'm Miharu, her younger sister.

Kazuki: You resemble each other a lot.

Hazuki: Yes, but now Mafuyu-chan has shorter hair and a red face.

Nariyuki: Yeah, I see you got burned on the beach too, sensei.

Mafuyu: Yes, it's horrible.

Nariyuki: Horrible why? It gives you a young and healthy image, you look like a teen girl in love. (Mafuyu blushes) Besides, you both look beautiful today, you look great in your yukatas.

(They blush)

Hazuki: Yeah, they look like models.

(...)

(They meets Fumino and Uruka at the matsuri)

Uruka and Fumino: Nariyuki!

Hazuki and Kazuki: Uruka-nee-chan, Fumi-nee-chan!

Nariyuki: Hi, Uruka; hi Furuhashi.

Miharu: Furuhashi? But wasn't this girl your sister?

Kazuki: No, our sister is Mizuki-nee-chan.

Nariyuki: It's a long story, but to sum up, they are both friends.

Uruka: And you must be Miharu Kirisu, Kirisu sensei's sister, right?

Miharu: Yes, I am.

Hazuki: (Pulling Nariyuki) Nii-chan, let's play some games.

Nariyuki: All right, all right...

(Everyone plays the game of catching fish with the net, shooting games, trying on masks and looking at craft stalls)

Kazuki: Nii-chan, I'm hungry.

Fumino: Let's go get some udon at Ricchan's stand!

(...)

Rizu: Whoa! What are you all doing here?

Uruka: We came to see you and to buy some udon.

Mr. Ogata: Rizu-tama, Sawa-chin, why don't you take a break after preparing the udon for your friends and have dinner all together?

Rizu: Okay, thank you, Dad.

Nariyuki: Would you mind preparing two more? I'd like to take a bowl to Kominami-senpai and her father.

Sawako: No problem!

(Nariyuki and Uruka carefully carry one bowl each and Fumino carries two for herself)

Asumi: (Seeing them) (Annoyed) I tell you I didn't want to see you here this year! Now tell me, who was it this time?

Nariyuki: Don't worry, we're all fine, we just came to bring you some udon for dinner, we figured you'd be busy.

Soujiro: (Excited) I couldn't expect less from my daughter's boyfriend.

Miharu: (Surprised and indignant) Bo-boyfriend?

Nariyuki: (Quietly) It's not what it looks like, I swear, I'll explain you later.

Asumi: (Taking the bowl) Thank you, Kohai.

Soujiro: Asumi, why don't you take a break and have dinner with your friends? It's almost fireworks time, and there are almost no people, I can manage on my own.

Asumi: Thanks, Dad.

(...)

(They has dinner together while watching the fireworks. Mafuyu intentionally puts her hand on the wall and grazes Nariyuki's hand, making him look, blush and think about the high school cultural festival)
