And once again, I am brought back to FTZ!
But like the last few times, just for this chapter and then it's back to TLI! Since this is the last chapter of the Betty arc I figured I should finish things up ya know? Get that sweet satisfaction of completing an arc, hehe.
Also, a few things. One, go check out Marius Wales on Devianart! He made a drawing of Betty so if ya wanna see what she looks like go to his page, he did an amazing job on that and he does lots of other cool stuff as well!
Second, if you want a voice for Betty either Alyson Stoner or Tara Strong, pick your poison.
And third, my friend Petrus is taking a well-deserved break from things for a while so I'm using Grammarly to make corrections and stuff for chapters so hopefully that goes well. And if there is any corrections that need to be made please PM them to me. PM! Ya hear that? PM, not a review.
And with all that said, hope you enjoy the finale of the Betty arc.
Cue: Might+U
"Because…I made a promise." Despite the pain, despite all the blood leaking out of his body and the bruises he's taken, his clothes torn and ripped, he refused to fall down in defeat. "I promised the queen I would protect Betty…I promised Betty I'd take her to Fairy Tail…and I promised I'd defeat you. So long as there's breath in my body…I WON'T LET ANY OF THEM DOWN! DO YOU HEAR ME?! I WON'T DIE TO THE LIKES OF YOU! NOT WITH SO MUCH ON THE LINE!"
"You're a fool!" Jaakuna yelled as he began gathering up magic energy in his palms. "You think you can defeat me with your body like that!"
"All I need…" Zane then rose a single fist into the air. "IS ONE FIST!" With all his might, Zane flew towards Jaakuna. With his right fist reared back, gathering up energy in his hand, Zane speed towards the demon with the full intent on delivering the killing blow. He just needed to get in close.
But Jaakuna was doing all he could to make sure that didn't happen. The demon kept firing blast of chaos magic after blast of chaos magic. But somehow this boy had managed to evade each and everyone. 'I don't understand!' Jaakuna yelled in his mind as each blast missed Zane, the boy gathering up more and more energy in his right fist. 'How could he still be moving like this?! He should at least be unconscious! What's driving him?! What…'
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!
Jaakuna found himself doing one last thing he's never done before. Freeze in fear. Suddenly, surrounding Zane as he closed in with his fist now out, was an outline of the great ape Oozaru. Its sharp teeth visible as it roared and its blood-red eyes forcing Jaakuna to cease his attack as one question ran through his mind.
'What is he?!'
"THIS IS IT! EVERYTHING I'VE GOT!" Zane yelled as he inched closer and closer to Jaakuna who had suddenly ceased his attacks. "FOR BETTY! QUEEN BRIANNA! THE OZRA! AND EVERYONE WHO'S SUFFERED BECAUSE OF YOU!"
"KAI-O-KEN TIME SEVEN!"
The aura of Kai-O-Ken burning off him more ferocious then ever, Zane was mere inches away from Jaakuna as he directed all power into his fist and-
Betty finally found herself walking up. Her eyes opening up, she quickly realized her arms and legs were bound and unable to move. But she could still look around. And what she saw was truly a sight to behold.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Zane screamed…as he proceeded to blow right through Jaakuna. Zane built up so much power, he not only impaled Jaakuna with his fist, but left a giant hole in his body big enough for Zane to fly through.
Betty couldn't believe it. Zane successfully killed Jaakuna. He got her revenge. He avenged her mother. "Zane…" Betty muttered as a single tear went down her eye, a smile coming to her mouth as she watched the demon meet its end.
"Thank you."
End Music
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" Zane let out a mighty scream as he successfully impaled the demon of Zeref. With a wound on Jaakuna that he couldn't possibly recover from, Zane deactivated Kai-O-Ken and, despite his body in pain due to both taking Jaakuna's attack as well as pushing all the way to Kai-O-Ken times 7, put on a big grin. "I won!" Zane cheered and even laughed a bit. "I DID IT!"
'Betty…' Zane thought as he soon found himself falling to the ground. 'Brianna…I won your revenge!' And with that, Zane landed belly first on the ground. But despite the pain he found himself in, he never let the smile on his face fad. He did it, he got revenge for Betty, her mother, and all of the Ozra people. He defeated Jaakuna!
Speaking of whom, the demon also found himself landing belly first on the ground. Well, the term belly used loosely due to the fact that Jaakuna's whole stomach was destroyed by Zane. With a wound like that, the demon was only able to stay together for a few more moments. Jaakuna growled as he tried to stand up and attack Zane again, but it was a completely fruitless effort. Jaakuna fell limp as the light faded from his eyes. His body rippled like a liquid before ultimately becoming that, the demon's body melting and turning into a puddle of a motionless black liquid.
"He's dead…he's really dead…" Betty, still stuck to the wall, smiled as more happy tears came out of her eyes. Even if she just learned of it this day, the impact of this demon destroying everything she knew and loved hit extremely hard. And now Jaakuna was dead. Her mom was avenged. All thanks to the Fairy Tail wizard Zane.
Just then cracking sounds were heard causing Betty to love to bindings that kept her pinned to the wall. She didn't get to look at them for long though as, once he was gone, the bindings holding her were destroyed and Betty found herself falling right into the water. "WOAH!" The 11-year-old let out as she made a loud splash in the water.
Not wasting another second, Betty stretched her arm out of the water and clung onto the edge of the platform and pulled herself up. "Zane!" Betty called out to the monkey tailed boy and quickly rushed to his side. She soon wrapped around Zane and pulled him closer to her. "Zane are you-"
"GAAAAAAAHHH!" Zane screamed in pain due to the pressure Betty was putting onto his already injured and exhausted body. "BETTY!"
"Ah! Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" Betty apologized as she removed her arms from Zane and set him back down on the ground to let him rest. "I-I'm sorry I d-didn't-I just-I-I wanted to…thank you. Thank you so much Zane…you actually did it…"
"Hehe…I promised you I would kill him…" Zane managed to laugh out, even from the pain that caused him. But he was used to pain and wasn't gonna let a little thing like that stop him from reminding Betty of his promises. "Now I only have one promise left to fulfill…ya ready to go to Fairy Tail?"
Betty sniffled a little. This was really happening. The next chapter of her life was about to start. Just like the boy in front of her, she was going to be a wizard of the Fairy Tail guild. "Yeah…" Betty said with a small smile as she wiped away from tears from her eyes. "I am."
Zane chuckled a bit was about to make an attempt to get up…only to wince in pain as he felt his muscles working against him. He really overdid it with this one. Looking back on it, maybe Kai-O-Ken times 7 was a little much, times four would have done finished the job just fine. But what was done, was done. He would just have to wait here and rest for a bit until he had the strength to get up again…
At least that was the original plan.
Suddenly, coming from The Diamond Heart itself, was a white glow that cast down on both Zane and Betty. Despite the sudden light, Betty and Zane didn't find themselves wincing at it. The light didn't hurt their eyes one bit, heck, it actually felt really nice. The light gave them both a warm and comforting feeling…and it was only emphasized as the light proceeded to heal the two up. "Woah…" They let out in amazement as any sort of wounds the both of them had soon disappeared thanks to the hearts light. Zane even felt his energy returning and stronger than ever as per usual when he recovered from being heavily injured.
"WOOHOO!" Zane cheered as he used his arms to boost him off the ground and into the air. Betty laughed a bit at Zane's energy as the monkey tailed boy did a few flips in the air before landing back down on his feet. Not a single scrap or drop of blood on him, plus his clothes were all fixed now! Bonus! "Alright! As my uncle would say, I feel like a new man!"
Betty giggled a bit, and couldn't help but blush as she watched Zane flex a bit, and looked up to absorb more of the healing rays of light with her eyes…only to gasp at what she saw. "The heart…" Zane looked to Betty with a raised brow as she said that and saw the girl was looking up. Zane soon found himself gasping with widened eyes at the scene.
The Diamon Heart was lowering from its position at the top of the room. The power source of the entire Ozra people slowly floating down to the two children. Specifically, Zane. Zane suddenly felt as if his hands were moving by themselves as they reached forward withheld out hands. Hands that soon found themselves holding The Diamond Heart. "What the…" Zane let out as he and Betty stared at the object in the boy's hands with sparkling eyes. By touching the heart, Zane could feel how much magic energy was stored inside. "What's going on?"
"Consider it your reward for everything you've done for us."
A new and familiar voice suddenly spoke up, making both kid's eyes widen. The voice was especially familiar to Betty as she soon felt even more tears coming to her eyes. "That voice…" Zane and Betty said in unison, Betty's voice having a bit of a squeak to it as more water came down to her cheeks. Before either could say anything about it, a new light came into the room.
Appearing before Zane and Betty was the orb of light that Zane first encountered when he woke up in the temple. And the Strauss boy remembered who exactly was the orb of light. Just as it appeared, the orb turned into her true form. The queen of the Ozra people and Betty's mother, Brianna. "M…Mommy!" Betty quickly lunged towards the ghost with her arms extended and ready to give her mother the biggest and tightest hug ever.
A hug that Brianna was more than happy to receive and return. The ghost of the queen wrapped her ghostly arms around her daughter and spun around a few times, tears coming to the ghost's eyes as she held on tight to her precious baby girl. "Betty!" Brianna cried as she and Betty held each other tightly. Despite Brianna's ghostly white body, Betty never felt warmer in her passed mother's arms. "I'm so glad to see you're alright! My precious baby!"
"Mom…" Betty removed her tear covered face away from her mother's chest and looked to her face. At least as much as she could. Getting a better look at her mother, Betty saw that she was translucent, white, floating…a ghost. "A-Are…a-a-are y-you really…"
Brianna's smile turned sad as she nodded her head at her daughter, confirming the sad news. "I'm afraid so sweetie." This caused more tears to fall down the princess's eyes as she once again buried her face in her mom's ghostly chest. If there wasn't enough proof that her mom was dead, this was just a nail in the coffin. But the ghost of Brianna was quick to comfort her daughter as she softly patted her head. "Please, stop crying Betty. You know how much I hate it when you're sad…"
"B-But…you…and…..everyone else…" Betty managed to squeak out in between sobs. She held onto tighter to the ghost of her mother, afraid that if she loosened up for even a second that she was would truly lose her mom forever. "They're…all…."
"Hush my child." Brianna comforted Betty with a soft smile as she removed her daughter's head from her chest and moved Betty's head so that she was looking right into Brianna's eyes, the least translucent part of her body, and continued giving her that warm and motherly smile. "While it is true that we lost our lives, we still far from gone. Look."
Betty, with eyes still flooded with tears, rose a brow…before the room start to light up with many, many sources. Dozens, possibly hundreds, of orbs of light similar to the one Brianna was mere moments ago filled the room. And just like Brianna, these orbs soon gained a new form…people. Each one of these orbs of light turned into a spirit of one of the Ozra people. "Wow…" Zane let out at seeing the once in a lifetime scene, all the ghosts in the room looking at Betty and giving her smiles along with the occasional waves.
Betty was completely speechless. Everyone she knew was right here in the room with her. It didn't matter to her if they were all ghost or not, they were here and giving her looks that told her that everything was alright. The 11-year-old covered her mouth with her hands at the touching display as her mother spoke up again. "With Jaakuna defeated, our spirits can finally move on to the afterlife in peace. While he may not be in the same realm anymore, all of us will always be with you. Through good times and bad times, laughter, pain, happiness, and sadness. Even if you can't see us, there will never be a single second where we won't be there for you." Betty found herself crying harder and louder as Brianna lowered her head down so she could connect her and her daughter's foreheads.
Just then all the ghosts around the room slowly started to disappear one by one. Most likely finally headed into the afterlife so they can rest in peace. Zane looked around with an amazed expression as the ghost made their long-awaited trip to the afterlife. He even saw as some of the ghosts cast him a thankful look before disappearing. "And you young Zane." Zane snapped his head over to queen Brianna as the passed queen sent him a soft and thankful look. "I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us. Please, continuing watching after my daughter and make sure she's safe."
"Heh, you don't need to worry." Zane reassured the queen as he spun around The Diamond Heart on his finger for a second like a basketball before tossing it up and catching it and then holding it under his arm. "When she's in Fairy Tail, she'll have tons of people watching over her like she's family."
"I'm so glad to hear that." Queen Brianna said as a single tear escaped her eye. This tear fell off her face and turned into particles of light as it fell. Soon after that…Queen Brianna's started to fade. As soon as the rest of the Ozra people headed to wherever passed souls went, the queen was the last to start to make the trip. So with what little time she had left, Brianna cupped her daughter's chin so that they were looking into each other's eyes. "And Betty, my sweet, innocent Betty." Brianna began making Betty sniffle a bit as her cheeks turned pink. "I ask only one thing of you. Please…don't stop smiling."
"H-Huh…" Betty let out as her eyes widened a bit.
"You heard me young lady." Brianna giggled a bit as she booped her daughters' nose with her fading hand. "Nothing in my life brings me more joy than seeing you smile. Whether it's seeing you skipping through the halls, telling a joke, or just giving someone a smile to brighten their day, nothing makes me happier than seeing you spread that joy you always have with you to others with nothing but your smile. So please, never lose it. No matter what may happen."
Betty sniffled even more as she watched her mothers form slowly fade. Brianna's last moments in the mortal world fading right in front of her. But still, if that was her mother's last request…then she would do her best to make her mom happy. So, despite the tears falling down her eyes, Betty put a smile on her face. A shaky smile, but a smile nonetheless and that was more than enough for Brianna. "I will…" Betty squeaked out as she continued to keep her smile on.
Brianna, with only a few seconds left, did one last thing before she left. Placed a kiss on her daughters' forehead. "Goodbye, Betty." Brianna said tearfully as she took her Betty's hand into her own one last time. "I…love….you….." With those last three meaningful words, Brianna completely disappeared from this realm. Her soul at peace and in the afterlife where she could always look over her daughter.
Once she was gone, Betty simply stood in place as if she was frozen and unable to move. Zane watched this from a few feet away and frowned a bit. He could practically feel how upset the Ozra princess was. Having to say goodbye to both her people and her mother must have really taken an emotional toll on her. Who knows how long it would before she was ready to-
"Well, what are we waiting for silly?" Zane was taken back a bit as Betty suddenly turned to him. Her eyes were red and puffy and tears stained her face but despite that, the 11-year-old had a giant smile on her face and anticipation in her eyes. If it weren't for her eyes and stained cheeks, one wouldn't have been able to tell she was just bawling her eyes out just a minute ago. "We got a guild to get back to don't we?!"
"Uh, well, yeah but…" Zane stuttered a bit at Betty's sudden change of mood. While he didn't exactly want Betty to be sad, that's kinda what he was expecting. How does one go from mourning the loss of everyone they knew to smiling and waiting to get on the road. "Sorry just wasn't expecting the whole pep up is all…"
At hearing this, Betty lowered her head a bit as her smile turned a bit more somber. "Don't get me wrong. I…I'm still really messed up about all this. I probably always will be. Even if they see me…I'll never get to see them again. That kiss from my mother…it'll be the last time I receive one." Betty started explaining, making Zane regret asking her. He probably should have just left well enough alone. Thankfully though, this regret didn't last long as Zane watched Betty put on a bigger and happier smile. "But…my mother wants me to keep smiling and dog-gone-it I'm gonna do it! Even if I can't see her, I'm gonna do my best to make her happy! Plus, I remember what you told me about Fairy Tail. How you all share everything, even sadness. And if I'm sad, then everyone else is gonna be sad and I don't want that! The first thing I want everyone to see when I come to the guild is my bright happy smile so that they will be happy too!"
Zane found his mouth gaping a little bit at Betty's words. The amount of will power to pull off something like that off was incredibly impressive. Heck, he doubted he could do something…no, he knew he couldn't pull something like that off. Zane knew he could lose control of his emotions quite often so maybe he could learn a thing or two from her. "Heh, yeah you're right." Zane gave a hearty chuckle as he held The Diamon Heart closer to him. "Look at you, it's like you've already been a lifelong member."
Betty couldn't help but giggle a bit as her pale cheeks turned pink. "Well come on then silly-billy!" Betty then stretched her arm towards Zane and grabbed the Strauss boys' free arm and retracted her arm at the base to pull herself towards Zane. "I actually wanna be apart of the family! So let's go, go, go, go!"
Zane chuckled at Betty's pure enthusiasm that he swore was infectious. While he knew Betty was and will always be sad about the events that had just taken place, he also knew that she was gonna be ok. She had a new family waiting for her back in Magnolia. "Alright, then let's go! Keep your hand on my shoulder." Betty did a little more than that and wrapped her entire arm around Zane's. Zane then reached into his pocket and pulled out the teleportation/communication lacrima Jenny had given him. Activating it, Zane spoke into the small orb. "Check, check, this is Zane. Aunt Jenny, do you read me?"
Betty rose a confused eyebrow at Zane speaking into the lacrima, but soon gasped as a female's voice spoke through the lacrima. "I'm here Zane!" Zane smiled at hearing Jenny's voice. It was a massive relief to hear it. Honestly, he's felt like he's been in this temple for days at this point. "So do you got the heart?"
"Better believe it." Zane bragged with a grin on his face as he tossed the heart up and down. Considering he had to fight a demon that copied his body to get it, he couldn't help but be a little prideful in acquiring the heart. "Got what we came for and we're ready to be warped out." While Zane could instant transmission back to the lake's surface using Jenny's energy as a beacon, he was sure that his aunt Jenny put a lot of work into the lacrima's she gave him to use so he'll let her have this.
"Alright then I'll just activate the beacon and you can-" Jenny cut herself off as she realized exactly what Zane said and grew confused. "Wait did you say we're?"
Zane didn't get a chance to enter that question as both he and Betty were teleported out of the temple.

Missing an arm rise up from the black puddle they left behind.
Back on the surface of Earthland, on the shore of the lack, was Jenny Realight. The Blue Pegasus woman had stationed herself at the area where she had sent Zane off to go get The Diamond Heart. And currently, the woman was…confused. Zane had just communicated with her on the lacrima she had given him and the start of their little mission. And Zane said we're ready to leave. We're. As in both Zane and another person.
But that didn't make any sense. Zane went to the temple all by himself. Who could he have with him, it's not like anyone was still alive inside the sunken temple…right? Well, it was a good thing she didn't put any money on that statement because she was soon proven wrong.
Thanks to her beacon lacrima, teleporting right in front of her was Zane…as well as girl with pale skin, pink hair, and pink hairs. Everyone was silent as Jenny blinked and rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things as Betty gave Jenny a sheepish wave. "Soooooo…" Finally breaking the silence was Zane as he presented The Diamond Heart to Jenny. "I can explain."
"Woooooooooow…" And that rather awkward moment, the trio of Zane, Betty, and Jenny proceeded to head back to the train station. While they were on their way, Zane and Betty informed Jenny in on everything that went down in the temple. To Zane meeting the ghost of queen Brianna, Zane waking up Betty, and of course about how the demon of Zeref Jaakuna was the reason the Ozra people 'mysteriously' disappeared.
Well, Zane and Betty were telling the story. At least until they got into town. That was when Betty found herself fascinated with every single thing her eyes came across. To the point where Zane and Jenny had to drag her away from a few places to keep her from either getting lost or potentially angering someone. Luckily despite this Zane was still able to give details about everything to Jenny. Including his fight with Jaakuna and the demon taking his look. "Just…please don't tell mom I fought a demon…again." Zane pleaded with his surrogate aunt, knowing how his mother would react to him fighting a demon practically right after taking on Deliora.
"Relax, your secret is safe with me. What are cool aunts for." Jenny gave Zane a wink allowing the monkey tailed boy to sigh in relief. While Jenny and Mira were good friends, Jenny had to admit that Mira had gotten way to protective of Zane. The young Strauss boy was a fighter through and through and would only continue to grow stronger and stronger. Mira had to realize that sooner or later and allow Zane to get into dangerous scenarios. "But still, that's pretty intense. I guess that explains why you don't have a shadow anymore."
"Huh?" Zane looked behind him and, sure enough, his shadow was still gone. Despite the sun's rays hitting him with all they've got, Zane's body did not cast a shadow on the ground. While Zane was a bit confused, he thought once he defeated Jaakuna he would get his shadow back, he didn't really mind it much. Not like a shadow matter all too much. "Weird. Ah well, nothing really lost. Got the heart, got Betty, and killed my second demon. I'm a roll!"
"Got that right!" Jenny patted Zane's head as well as give his hair a little ruffle. Giggling, Jenny then looked to Betty who seemed mesmerized by a few fruits and veggie's stands they passed, as well as drool practically erupting from her mouth from a candy store they saw, the Blue Pegasus member couldn't help but try something. "Ya know Betty, I know Zane said he was gonna take ya to Fairy Tail but Blue Pegasus could always use a few cute girls like yourself in our ranks~"
"Hey!" Zane quickly started glaring at Jenny. She was trying to persuade Betty to join freaking Blue Pegasus, how dare she! "Some cool aunt you are!"
"I'm the coolest aunt." Jenny retorted as she stunk her tongue out playfully at Zane. The Blue Pegasus member then turned to Betty and continued her persuasion attempts. "So what do you say Betty?"
"Mmmmmm, no thanks!" Betty gave a single second of thought to the offer before quickly denying it. Her blunt tone making Jenny pout and Zane snicker. "I appreciate the offer but Zane was the one to help me with everything. And a guild with Zane in it is the guild I wanna be in."
"Ah well, had to try." Jenny shrugged at her loss but wasn't to upset by it. Really, she expected Betty to stick with Zane and Fairy Tail. Just then Jenny smiled at Zane as she remembered something. "That reminds me, I did a little bit of clothes shopping while you were down there and I got you something."
Zane deadpanned at Jenny a little bit. He probably should have suspected she would do something like that. It was Jenny after all and she would always take the chance to visit any cloths store she passed. But his deadpan soon turned to a smile as Jenny pulled out a long-sleeved black jacket with the kanji for 'POWER' on the back in gold. "Oh sweet!" Jenny handed the now eager Zane his brand-new hoodie which he quickly put on. "Thanks Aunt Jenny! Black cloths till death!"
"I knew you'd like it." Jenny winked at him before crouching down and giving him a sly smirk. "Soooooo, who's the coolest aunt?~"
Zane rolled his eyes before giving his surrogate aunt a kiss on the cheek. "You are." Jenny was satisfied with this answer and nodded her head before continuing to walk forward.
"D'aaaaaaaaaawwww." Betty let out at the display she just witnessed. But Betty's attention was soon focused on something else. Luckily, it was the trio's destination so they didn't have to worry her by dragging her away. "What's that?!"
Chuckling a bit at Betty's reaction, Jenny spoke up with an explanation. "That's a train Betty." The Blue Pegasus member told Betty as she pointed to the series of cars on the rails with a big engine in the beginning. For a second there she nearly forgot that Betty both originally live in a time before trains and in an area that wouldn't even have them. "It's essentially a series of cars connected to rails that are used to travel from one place to another. And it's what we're gonna be using to get to Magnolia."
"Ooooooooh! Coolio!" Betty cheered as she started bouncing up and down in place. "My very first train ride! This is so exciting! Are you excited? Because I'm excited! Maybe not as exciting as the –" Betty had to stop talking for a breath moment to take a large breath before immediately going back to talking. "But this is still super duper exciting! I wonder what the cars look like on the inside are they-"
Betty continued talking as if she as on a sugar high. They would probably believe it if she was actually considering she just radiated a positive and energetic aura. "I get your excited Betty but let's just slow it down a bit." Zane chuckled a bit as he put a hand to Betty's shoulder to get her to stop talking, he swore she was practically vibrating. "We gotta get out tickets first and then we can get on the train."
"Okie doki loki!" Betty said as she skipped behind Zane and Jenny to the station. All the while her feet made a squeaking sound every time they hit the ground.
After getting their train tickets, Zane, Betty, and Jenny were quick to board the train. When they got on board Betty's eyes quickly turned to stars as she got a look at the inside of a train car. "Ooooooo! Fancy!" As Betty stretched her neck out to get a good look at every inch of the train car, they failed to notice the door on the opposite end of train car open up and reveal…a bunch of boxes. Specifically, someone carrying a stack of boxes that hid their face. Finally, Betty had enough of a look around and retracted both her neck and head to their normal positions and jumped, literally, into the nearest seat. "Comfy!"
"Heh, my friend Natsu would disagree with that." Zane couldn't help but joke. It didn't matter how soft or nice a train seat was, if it was moving Natsu would feel like dying due to his insane motion sickness. "But I'm sure you'll handle it a lot better then-"
"Whaaaa!"
Suddenly a loud high-pitched squeaking sound got everyone's attention. Look to it, they saw that however was carrying all the boxes ended up tripping…sending all their things into the air. "Woah!" Zane, with his lightning-fast reflexes, was quick to come to the stranger's aid in catching all their boxes and even a few bags. With his right-hand Zane caught about seven of the boxes, five in his left, and even two on his right foot and used his tail to catch the few bags there were. Based on the shape of the boxes and how light they were, he guessed that each of the items he caught had clothes in them. "Whew, that was a close one."
"Dang! Nice moves there Zane!" Betty complimented as Jenny clapped her hands a little bit.
"W-Wow…" Looking down at the person that ended up tripping…Zane couldn't help but find himself blushing a bit. On the floor right in front of him was a 12-year-old girl. She had brown eyes and dark blue hair was done up in twin-tails with some purple clips. She wore a light magenta long-sleeved top-skirt combo with purple highlights on the cuffs of her sleeves as well as some vertical highlights on the front of the top along with a purple ribbon on her extremely petite chest. She also had black stockings that wend halfway past her knees and white sandals.
Both Zane and this girl felt themselves looking into each other's eyes in silence for a few seconds. For some reason, it seemed like they couldn't look away from each other. But suddenly the blue-haired girl's face exploded with red as she stood up and straightened up her outfit and gave Zane a bow. "T-T-T-T-Thank y-you so m-much!" The girl stuttered shyly and she clenched her eyes shut, completely embarrassed with herself for starring at the boy that was nice enough to catch all her stuff before they fell. "S-S-S-Sorry a-about t-t-t-that. I-I c-can b-b-be k-kinda c-clumsy sometimes…"
"Oh d-don't sweat it!" Zane even found himself stuttering a little bit and prayed that the girl in front of him didn't catch him starring at her. The Strauss boy then tossed all the boxes he caught into the air in a way that they all stacked up again and fell into both of his hands in a stable stack with his tail still holding her bags. "Couldn't just let all this stuff fall ya know? If ya want I can help carry all this to your seat."
"O-Oh n-no I couldn't ask ya to do that." Especially after she checked him out she thought to herself, scolding herself for the shameless act. This boy was kind, and quick enough, to catch all the stuff she dropped like a clumsy oaf and then proceeded to stare at him. She didn't think she deserved anymore of his help. "I…I'd hate to inconvenience you…"
Zane couldn't help but find it a little cute as she tried to hide her face behind pigtails and shook his head. "Hey, it's no big deal, really. I insist!" Zane reassured her as he proceeded to use a single arm to lift the boxes and raised his arm and down to show how effortlessly he was able to lift up all the boxes with one arm. "Come on, where are you sitting?"
"Well…alright." The girl relented as she felt Zane wasn't gonna take no for an answer. But she still smiled as she couldn't help but feel touched at how much he wanted to help her. "I'm assigned to sit in the next car, is that fine?"
"Totally!" Zane reassured the blue-haired girl before turning to Jenny and Betty. "I'll be right back guys."
"Aye, aye captain!" Betty reassured Zane as she saluted while crossing her eyes goofily with her tongue hanging out."
Meanwhile, Jenny giggled as she looked between Zane and this girl. She caught sight of both of them looking at each other and the gears quickly started turning in the Blue Pegasus woman's head. "Oh it's perfectly alright." Jenny told the two 12-year-olds before shooting them a wink. "You two kids have fun~"
Both Zane and the blue-haired girl found themselves blushing from his statement. The girl especially as her face was practically radiating heat with steam releasing from her ears. "C-Come on l-lets go!" Zane immediately began making his way to the next car with the blue-haired girl following, her movements a bit robotic at the moment. Zane growled a bit as he heard both Jenny and Betty giggling in the background and quickly used his free arm to open the door leading to the next car, letting the girl go first. "Sorry about that. My Aunt Jenny has a very…active imagination."
"I-I-I-I-It's o-o-o-ok…r-r-really…" The girl violently stuttered as she tried her best to make her faces temperature go down. The girl then opened up the door to the next car and allowed Zane to go in first. She really was amazed at how well he was carrying everything of hers with just one arm. She had a habit of buying a little too much whenever she went shopping by herself and that left her with a large stack of boxes and bags she struggled to carry. "T-T-Thanks a-again for helping me with my things. Hehehe, I always b-buy more then I p-planned…"
"If you think this is nuts, you should see my mom when she goes clothes shopping. We have to renovate the closest to make more space every time." Zane joked which managed to get a laugh out of the blue-haired girl. And like everything else about her so far, Zane couldn't help but find it adorable. "Oh yeah, I don't think I've introduced myself yet. I'm Zane, Zane Strauss."
"I'm Wendy." The blue-haired girl now known as Wendy properly introduced herself to the monkey tailed boy. "Wendy Marvell! It's really nice to meet you Zane."
"Same here Wendy." Zane said as Wendy found a place to seat in the new train car. Even though he was just originally planning on helping Wendy with her boxes and bags, he found himself sitting right next to her and placing all of her stuff on the end of the seat next to him. And Wendy didn't complain one bit about this as she smiled at the black-haired boy. "So what brings you here Wendy? Just clothes shopping?"
"Well not exactly, I was actually here on a bit of a job." Wendy answered a bit sheepishly as she looked at her own hands for a moment. She couldn't help but feel a bit shy at the moment due to the position she was in. "I may not look like it but I'm actually a guild wizard."
"Oh sweet! Me too actually!" Zane told the blue-haired girl making her smile at the news. "What kind of job were you on?"
"Um, w-well, it w-wasn't really a-anything to big…" She explained to the monkey tailed boy shyly as she continued to look down at her hands. "I-I-I was just h-helping a f-f-farmer gather u-up some f-fruits and v-veggies from his crop. I bet you go on a lot more exciting jobs…"
"Hey come on, don't say that." Zane reassured her as he put a hand on the blue-haired girls' shoulder. An act causing her to quietly squeak and blush. "All jobs are important, you shouldn't talk about yourself and work like that. I 100% your perfectly capable and strong."
"R-Really…" Wendy's eyes widened a bit at Zane's compliment. That was one of the last things she expected Zane to say about her, especially since they just met. "You…think I'm strong?"
"Of course! I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true." Zane spoke with 100% honesty. Even without using his energy sensing, he could tell there was something special about Wendy. He couldn't quite put his finger on it but it almost felt familiar in a way.
"Wow…thanks…" Wendy's eyes practically sparkled a bit as she looked at Zane. She quickly blinked and shook her head to get rid of that so that way she could look at Zane normally and not have him think she was some kind of creep. "So what about you? What are you doing here? Also on a job?"
"Uuuuum…sort of." Zane answered after a moment of thinking about it. While this wasn't an official job, it wasn't exactly just running errands either. "More like a mission I guess you could say. Alright now where do I begin…ok so I got this idea for a new more intense way to train…"
ONE TRAIN RIDE LATER
"Wow! I can't believe you went through all that!" Before the two 12-year-olds knew it, they talked for practically the entirety of Zane's train ride. And over the course of that train ride, Zane told Wendy about his entire journey through the Ozra temple from his need for The Diamond Heart to killing Jaakuna. "You actually fought against one of Zeref's demons…and won too! Zane you're amazing!"
"Aw shucks." Zane blushed a bit from her compliment and scratched his cheek a bit. While this is how he normally acted whenever someone complimented him…there was a little nice tingly feeling when Wendy did it. "So now I'm talking Betty back to my guild and my Aunt Jenny is gonna help with the gravity chamber now that we have a power source for it."
"Attention all passengers." Interrupting the kids in their conversation was the conductor's voice coming through the intercom lacrima's in the car. "We have reached the Magnolia train station."
"Wait?! What?!" Looking out the window, Zane was rather shocked to see that they were indeed at the Magnolia train station. Did he and Wendy seriously end up talking for the entire train ride? Guess he owed Betty and Jenny a bit of an apology…still, not a single regret. "Wow, how time flies huh?"
"Guess this means you have to go now?" Wendy asked as she tried her best not to frown at the news. She was really enjoying getting to talk with the Strauss boy and was hoping to get to know him a little more. A nod from Zane confirmed this and Wendy did her best not to look down. "Well…maybe we can meet up again sometime? I really enjoyed getting to meet you Zane."
"Yeah me to Wendy, and I'd like that!" Zane told her with a big toothy grin on his face. And this grin quickly made Wendy start to blush and look away lest Zane see her redden cheeks. "If you're ever in my part of town don't be afraid to give me a call. Or if you need help with something."
"Y-Yeah! S-S-Same to y-you." Wendy started a bit as she gave Zane a goodbye wave. "I'll…I-I'll see you later Zane."
"See ya later Wendy." Zane gave his last goodbye to the blue-haired maiden. With that, Zane made his way off the train and into Magnolia station. Soon after he left, the train took off once again to its next destination, all the while a pair of brown eyes looked upon him as much as they could before the train left.
"Now where are they…" Zane was quick to look for where Betty and Jenny were. It didn't take long for the young Strauss to find them as he saw both Betty and Jenny only a few yards away from him…looking right at him and giving him a sly smirk. "Hey guys! Sorry I never came back I kinda got caught up with talking to…" Zane cut himself off when he noticed the looks the two girls were sending him. "What? Why're you looking at me like that?"
"Oh no reason~" Betty was quick to stand next to Zane and enlarge her arm to pat his hand in a way that completely covered it with each pat. "And don't worry about it good sir, who are we to tear ya away from your girlfriend~"
Zane's eyes widened as he quickly pushed Betty away from him. He was gonna put a stop to these thoughts now! "Nope! No! No! No! No!" Zane quickly repeated as he started glaring at the two girls. But all this did for them was to make them start giggling. "She is not my girlfriend! Don't even think that! And I swear to freaking Kami if you tell me mom this no one will find your bodies!"
The two girls simply giggled some more as Jenny spoke up. "Oh come Zaney~" Jenny nudged her surrogate nephew a little before ruffling his hair. "No one likes a boy in denial~"
"Ok that's it." Zane then lightly shoved Jenny back making the Blue Pegasus pout a little. But the look on her face told Zane that it wasn't an actual pout and that she was only continuing to mess with him. "Aunt Jenny, you go back to the house and get to work on the gravity chamber. Betty, I'll come and show you Fairy Tail. This discussion is over!"
Zane then proceeded to stomp off in the direction of the guild. All the while Jenny and Betty watched with smug smirks on their faces. "It so isn't over." Betty said as she and Jenny shared a fist bump. "Catch ya later Jen-Jen!" With that, Betty went to go catch up with Zane and see for herself what the guild she would be joining today would be like.
"Alright Betty, here's something my friend Natsu likes to do a lot…"
CRASH!
"WE MADE IT BACK ALIVE!"
With a kick, Zane opened up the door to Fairy Tail nice and wide to give Betty a clear view of the guild. As usual Fairy Tail was just as merrier as ever with wizards scattered about the tables drinking, telling stories, or just laughing with each other. Cana was downing an entire barrel of beer as usual, Levy was reading a book as Jet and Droy fought over her while she wasn't looking, Elfman was shouting about how dang manly he was, and Makarov was sitting criss-cross on the bar counter. Meanwhile on another table…
"What?! Say that about me again ya damn pyro! I dare you!" Yep, to absolutely no one's surprise, Gray and Natsu were at it once again. Spouting insults at each other as they collided forehead. "Cause I guarantee you're not gonna like what happens next!"
"Oh yeah!? Wanna put your money where your mouth is?!" Natsu yelled back as he pushes his forehead against Gray's and tried to overpower the ice mage. "I'll take you on anywhere any time streaker!"
"You looking for a fight dragon breath?!"
"I just said anywhere anytime ice princess!"
Meanwhile at the same table, Lucy watched the two getting into what was probably their 5th squabble today as she had Plue on her lap. "Don't you two ever get tired of trading playground insults?" Lucy sighed out with the boys not even responding to what she said. "And not even paying attention to me…"
"That's funny." Happy commented as he sat right on the table munching on a fish. "Usual we have trouble keeping your voice out of our heads."
"Watch it ya damn cat!" Lucy yelled at the blue fuzzball as a tick mark came to her face.
"NATSU! GRAY!" The booming voice made Natsu and Gray freeze in fear, and making Lucy turn to the source with a smile, as the scarlet knight herself Erza Scarlet made herself present. In each of Titania's hands was a plate of strawberry cake but despite the sweet treats in her hands, the S-Class mage had a sour expression on her face due to Natsu and Gray fighting yet again today. "You two had better not be fighting again!"
"F-F-F-Fighting? Us?" Gray stammered as he and Natsu quickly went buddy-buddy mode in order to escape the wrath of Erza Scarlet. "Pfft, no way! R-Right N-N-Natsu?"
"Aye!" Natsu squeaked in a similar manner to Happy, all the while sweating bullets.
Erza narrowed her eyes at the two, making them flinch, before giving a satisfied nod and sitting down next to Lucy. "Here Lucy." Erza placed one of the pieces of cake she had in front of Lucy. A gesture that made everyone nearby who saw and heard it gasp. Was Erza…sharing her cake with someone? Willingly?! "I thought you might like a piece."
"Aw, thanks Erza." Lucy accepted a fork Erza handed her and dug into the cake. All the while Erza's gesture left a shade of pink on the blond's cheeks.
"Erza is actually sharing cake…" Happy let out with a completely shocked expression on his face. He even ended up dropping his fish due to this. "The universe must be broken!"
"Yep, this is Fairy Tail." Zane said as he and Betty witnessed all of the antics of the guild first hand. Turning, he saw the girl struggling to stay in place. Stars filled her eyes, her legs were moving up and down and her arms were constantly stretching out and retracting. "I take it you like what you see?"
"This…is…so….."Just then Betty brought her hands forward and stretched only her fingers out. The fingers all coiled around each other in a spiral motion until all ten of Betty's fingers formed into a large megaphone-like shape. Zane's eyes widened as he realized what Betty was going to do and covered his ears. Betty then took a deep breath and shouted right into her finger megaphone…
"AWESOOOOOOOME!"
Betty's shout, amplified by her self-made megaphone, rang throughout the entire guild. It was so intense that a few things, and even people, got blown away all due to her sheer enthusiasm. Needless to say, this got everyone in the guild looking their way. But before anyone could say anything, Betty was quick to make herself known to the entire guild.
"ATTENTION FAIRY TAIL!" After retracting her fingers back to their normal size and shape, Betty started spinning around at high speeds. All the way she extended her legs to make herself taller and taller with her spinning making her legs coil together. "YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND…"
Betty then started retracting her legs…from the bottom. As Betty stopped spinning her top half, her bottom half started spinning in the opposite direction as they rose up to meet up with the rest of her body. Once her legs were no longer coiled together and back to normal length, she quickly angled herself so that way her feet were against the wall. Using the wooden wall as a springboard, Betty launched herself to back the floor with her target being the middle of the guild. Once she made it to the floor, she proceeded to do a knee slide while holding her arms out as a way of presenting herself.
"BETTY IS HERE!"
With a giant grin on her face and everyone's eyes on Betty, Zane walked up next to the pink-haired girl. "Hey everyone!" Zane announced with a smirk on her face. "I found someone new for the guild!"
As Zane prepared for all the inevitable questions about Betty from all of his guildmates, Makarov simply chuckled after taking a swing of his beer mug. "Well, things sure are getting interesting around here." The old master muttered to himself.
All the while he kept an eye on Betty and the sheer amount of untapped magic power within her.
Heheh, and with that comes the conclusion of the Betty arc. This was a really fun one to write, introduced a new villain and hero and both with very interesting things going for them. Believe me, once she starts getting into fights and such Betty's cartoon powers and really gonna be shown in their hilarious glory. But don't worry, I'm not gonna make her OP.
But speaking of power, every now and then starting now, I'm gonna start including things at the end of the chapter...
