Dumbledore stood proudly at the front of the hall, gazing out at the sea of faces gathered there. The ever-present twinkle in his eyes brighter than ever in the presence of their guests.

"This year Hogwarts will play host to a legendary event: the Triwizard Tournament. During which time a single student gets to represent his or her school in a series of magical contests. Eternal glory awaits the student who wins the tournament."

"May the odds be ever in your favour." Rhona declared in a high-pitched lilt prompting a few laughs.

Some of the girls from Beauxbatons Academy who were sat at the table glanced around confused.

"Can you please explain?" One asked the boy beside her.

The Hufflepuff just shrugged. "She's quoting something." He wasn't sure what exactly, but in the last year the students of Hogwarts had all learned, if a muggleborn says something seemingly random that other muggleborn's laugh at, then they are probably quoting something.

At the front of the room the Goblet of fire was unveiled.

At the back of the room, unnoticed by the distracted crowd, a creature called Momo crept from the doors to the head of the Hufflepuff table, her wide round eyes seeking a familiar face in the crowd.

They had only met a few hours ago on the train but Momo already knew the human Abigale was her best friend and had been very disappointed when the girl had asked her to wait in the dormitory whilst she attended the welcome feast. And right after she had taught her this lovely new shape and given her such a nice name too. It was boring in the dormitory alone. She wanted to play with her friend some more.

So, here she was.

And there Abigale was.

Momo's already wide smile stretched further.

The strange looking creature made its way along the table towards her friend, one Hogwarts student almost choked on his pumpkin juice as he caught sight of her. A few others began to notice the creature as she made her way down the row, and it was a testament to how much the previous year had accustomed these teens to the sight of such weird and terrifying beings, that none of them made a sound beyond an initial gasp of surprise. Instead they watched quietly to see what would happen next. Several began to grin in anticipation.

The majority of the room remained focused on the Headmaster who was explaining the rules of the tournament, those who had seen the boggart watched with apt attention as she reached Abigale and slipped onto the bench beside her.

The fourth year Hufflepuff gave a squeak of shock as her boggart appeared at her side.

"Momo" She whispered, eyes almost as round as the creatures in her panic. "I told you to stay put."

Unfortunately, her hissed chastisement drew the attention of the Beauxbatons girls to Momo's other side, who turned to glance at them only to find herself face to face with that ghastly nightmare of a face.

Whatever Dumbledore had been saying was promptly drowned out by an ear-splitting scream, then another, then another, as more and more people turned to see.

Amidst the chaos several Hogwarts students were seen laughing their heads off.

At the head table Professor McGonagall passed a small pouch of coins to Professor Snape who took it with a smug smile. "I told you it wasn't over." He jeered.

The transfiguration teacher rolled her eyes "Yes well, I suppose it was too much to hope that they were gone for good."

"and how convenient that Lupin has manged to jump ship leaving us with the trouble he brought."

"I suppose its Professor Moody's turn to defend us all from the horrors of our own students deranged minds this year."

"I suppose it is."

"Should we warn him?"

Both turned to glance at the defence teacher who was being swept up in the crowd of panicked students and guests from the other schools trying to regain order.

"He'll figure it out." Snape shrugged, helping himself to a goblet of wine.

Later that evening as they discussed the matter aboard their ship, the Durmstrang students decided that the incident must have been set up deliberately as a prank by the Hogwarts students and even though the Beauxbatons had been the first targeted, they themselves had not been unaffected.

The insult could not be allowed to slide.

Durmstrang was one of the highest achieving institutes of the dark arts. If Hogwarts wanted a fight, they were going to get one.

After all they reasoned, Hogwarts was a soft school, filled with muggleborns and wizards like Dumbledore preaching the greater good and how 'love and understanding' was the answer. They had no idea what true darkness looked like. Not like the Durmstrang's did.

The tournament was just a game. This was war.

Thank you ifeoluwaakinniran for commenting about Momo in a review leading me to a highly disturbing google search that I could have lived without. Good God she is creepy. I would definitely scream if I turned to find her next to me.
