Blast From The Past!
Part 14:
Betrayal
After One deep breath and the mutual signal to take action, Yusei and I kicked the door open together. Busting inside with our dueli disks blazing, only to find Kalin standing over the beaten body of a security defeated.
"Kalin..." Yusei was shaken at the sight.
"Oh...it's you Yusei..." Kalin blinked before shifting his gaze to me,"And you brought Akarii too."
"Kalin...what are you doing?" asked Yusei, as he tried to make sense of the situation.
"Well what does it look like!?" Kalin laughed,"You know...I've come to realize something...if we can beat securities,then we really will have conquered all of Satellite...wouldn't you agree!?" he laughed holding out his arms,"What do you think!? You guys should join me...what do you say!?" he beamed,"Let's take these guys on!" he darted his eyes back and forth between the two of us a couple times before finally settling on my and pulling me toward him,"Akarii what do you think!?"
He asked.
"Wh-What?"
"I said some pretty horrible things to you before...I'm sorry about that." he said," You're no wannabe infact you are easily ne of the best duelists out there and I know you got some pent up unfinished business with securities too." he paused and gave me a smirk,"What do you think? Wouldn't you like to make them suffer a little for what they did to you?" he asked"For taking Kai away with no rightful good reason."
"Kai...stole..."
"So he found a couple cards lying around... I'd hardly call that stealing!" said Kalin,"If anything he had every right to keep them or give them away however he pleased, whatever happened to finders, keepers?" said Kalin,"The one thing he was guilty of stealing was food and supplies to ensure you were taken care of...would you call that fair?"
"No..."
Kalin's words made me shiver as I was forced to look back on memories of the whole ordeal. My older brother Kai, saved my life during the Zero Reverse incident that split Satellite from the city...
We lost our family, though I was little when it happened so I didn't even remember our parents, not like Kai did. He was only 10 when it happened and I was maybe around 3. It was just Kai and me for some did whatever he could to ensure we made it...including stealing food.
"Of course, it's not!" said Kalin," When you opened up and told me about Kai I really felt our connection as friends, I felt we finally really started to bond, you and me." he said," And I admired your brother for every sacrifice he was willing to make for you...I understand Akarii." He pulled me in against him in a gentle hug, this was closer to the touch of the Kalin I came to know...before all that followed.
"Fight with me, Akarii..."
His embrace was warm and welcoming, and his words wrung as heavy truths in my ears. I wanted to give in...to join him...I almost did, until...
"NO!" Yusei pulled me away from Kalin before I could return his embrace, placing a firm hold on me, holding me back into my senses.
"You're not thinking straight, Kalin!" said Yusei,"And you shouldn't manipulate Akarii into your current twisted way of thinking!" he said,"We can't expect to win against all of them!"
It seemed the commotion was drawing the Securities' attention.
"Uh oh...there's a number of them coming this way!" said Yusei,"We should head to the hide out...Akarii and Kalin, Go!" he snapped," I'll be right behind you once I gather up Jack and Crow."
"Tch." Kalin wasn't thrilled but it seemed he hadn't lost all of his sanity yet, as he quickly gripped my wrist and dragged me along running back to our hide out.
"Dammit, Securities!" Kalin snapped, "And more of them! they can't do anything without ganging up like a bunch of bullies!" he huffed.
"I'm glad you two made it back safely." said Yusei.
"Akarii!" Crow called to me and ran to hug me close. "I'm so relieved you're okay..."
"Yeah well there's a lot more securities coming so now is hardly the time to let our guard down." said Jack,"The best thing to do now would be to lay low until this all blows over."
"You can't be serious!" Kalin snapped,"I know we can't take them all at once but if we kock'em out little by little we can win!" he huffed," I know we can! We're The Enforcers, It would be no problem with us, right Akarii!? What about your brother!? Kai!"
"Don't go getting over confident!" said Crow,"And don't you dare think to draw Akarii into your delusions!" Crow's hold on me became tighter as he pulled me closer to him at the mention of Kai's name,"The last thing Kai would want would be for his little sister to follow in his footsteps!" said Crow,"Infact I'm certain that would be the last thing Kai would want for any of us!"
"You didn't even really know Kai!" said Jack,"How dare you try to use him as a weapon to convince her!?"
"They're right, Kalin." said Yusei," You might not have known him the same way we did, but I can tell you this...he'd definitely be against it."
"Yeah it's true, we're a serious team." said Crow,"But goin' up against all of them would just be suicide!" he clamed,"We may as well tie our hands get on our knees before them and say 'arrest me now'!"
"Well we won't know unless we try!" said Kalin.
"Kalin might be right..." I said bringing everyone's attention to me,"It's not like there's an infinite number of them..."
"Yeah! See!?" Kalin beamed.
"Akarii don't even think of falling into this plot!" Crow said as he gripped me by the cuff of my team vest.
"I'm just saying!" I said, breaking away from his hold,"With the way things are going right now, Crow, we might not even have a choice!"
With that everyone fell silent for a moment, seeming to seriously consider the possibility, before all three of them sighed, which seemed to make Kalin more irritated.
"Look, Rosie, I hear you." said Crow,"But we gotta think carefully before just diving into a battle like this one." he sighed straightening the scruff that he had disheveled,"The safety of Satellite is riding on our shoulders."
"Grrrh..." Kalin gave a low growl and huffed grumpily.
"At the very least, we better just stay here at the hideout today." said Jack," If we're out and about we could be spotted anytime...then we would be of no good to anyone."
But we hardly had time to rest when the sounds of sirens blared outside the hideout's windows.
"No way..." said Crow as he ran to check the scene,"There are a ton of securities out there!"
"We've been found already!?" I gasped,"Damn they work fast-"
"WE KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE! COME OUT PEACEFULLY WITH YOUR HANDS UP!"
"It's no good." said Jack,"Clearly we're surrounded..."
"Well looks like Akarii's hypothesis was right and we have no choice but to fight now!" said Kalin,"Lets just take'em out like I said! I know we can do it!"
"No, we can't." said Yusei,"There's no way..."
"What do you mean!?"
"Kalin, even if all of us fight, there's just no way we can win this one." said Yusei,"Things will get way out of hand, and innocent people could get hurt."
"So then what do you suggest we do, Yusei?" I asked, feeling out of options.
"Well first...you're gonna hide somewhere, to make sure that what happened to Kai doesn't happen to you." he said,"Come with me Akarii...I have an idea."
"Oh really, an idea?" said Jack,"How do you propose to get out of this one, mate?"
"I can't tell you guys." said Yusei. "You're just gonna have to trust me."
"I don't see we don't just do it the easy way and take'em out!" said Kalin,"I know we can do this!"
"I'm going with Yusei's plan." said Crow,"If we resist, the losses will be huge." he sighed," I just hope you know what you're doing man."
"Well, what's the plan then!?" Kalin huffed, strongly opposed, but very out numbered.
"Crow...Jack...and Kalin, You three sneak out the back without securities noticing." said Yusei," Go to the bowling alley, I'll meet you there with Akarii who will come with me. It will be too risky if I send her to try and sneak away the same way you guys do...it could increase your chances of one or all of you getting caught,. We'll have an easier time keeping her hidden in smaller numbers."
"So we're splitting up then...fine." said Crow,"Yusei you better make sure you don't do anything stupid to get you or Akarii caught, Otherwise if you let anything happen to that Girl Kai might just curse you from the grave."
"Haha, got it."
With that we all did our silent nod of agreement before splitting up. Yusei and I hung back for a bit to give them time before we started our own trek out. We crept downstairs quietly, Yusei keeping me close to him the entire time, once we hit the bottom floor safety he ducked me down into a pile of boxes and rubble for hiding and whispered.
"Listen Akarii...I think I'm just gonna turn myself in."
"What!? Yusei...you can't be serious!"
"Sorry but I am. If I say I'm the leader they will just arrest me and the rest of you can avoid trouble."
"No way I can't just let you do this!" I hissed,"Let me go in your place, the team needs you more than they need me-"
"HaHa okay, I do that and how do you expect me to face Kai again?" Yusei chuckled," 'Hi Kai sorry I broke the promise I made to keep Akarii safe and let her get arrested to save my own ass'?" he laughed lightly,and placed a hand on my head,"He'd never let that slide. Like Crow said, He'd probably curse me from the grave...and Crow, oof" he shivered,"...If I let anything happen to you at all he'd really let me have it." said Yusei,"You see how he gets whenever you come home with a new bruise...imagine his rage if I come home without you?" he tucked a loose hair behind my ear and gave me a warm smile,"I made a promise to your brother to take care of you and always protect you. We all did." said Yusei,"We officially became your brothers the day Kai got taken away...and as your brothers to follow through on our promise to Kai, we will do whatever it takes to see it through."
"Yusei..."
I could feel the sting of my tears burning in the corner of my eyes and trail down slowly on my cheeks as I sniffled softly trying to rub them away. Yusei took my hand in his and gave it a squeeze using his other to swipe the tears from my cheeks.
"When all the securities are gone, go to the bowling alley and explain what happened." he said,"You are all irreplaceable friends, so I will do whatever it takes to make sure you're safe." he said as he threw his arms around me in an endearing squeeze,"Our bond is the most important thing to me."he sighed, "I'm sorry to make you the bearer of bad news Akarii...But know that I'm counting on you... you have my back right?"
"Alaways."
"Thank you."
As he released me I watched him stand and turn to walk out the front door, once he was out I crept out myself to hide in the shadows watching for an opening...one that would allow me to bring Yusei along if possible. He stepped outside with both arms raised and stated:
"I am the leader of The Enforcers."
They all paused to listen.
"I am the one who attacked securities. Nobody else has anything to do with it."
They all paused and looked at each other.
"What are you waiting for?" asked Yusei," I am here, now arrest me."
after a few moments of awkward silence the group of uniformed goons snickered.
"It's true, our orders were to arrest the leader...which is why we have no need for you anymore...go home."
"What do you mean!?"
"Look over there~"
Yusei blinked in confusion as he followed the direction to where the securities were pointing, curious myself, I also followed with my eyes and gasped in shock.
"No Kalin!" I cried and tried to run after him.
"Akarii, NO!" Said Yusei, grabbing my arm to pull me back.
"Needless to say, we already sent back the other two who were with him." said the guard,"They tried to resist, but it was...futile." he said,"Rebelling against Securities is a serious crime...so don't expect to see your buddy anytime soon...and keep a tight hold on the little girl...or she might join him~" he smirked and Yusei shot daggers at him from his eyes.
"Yusei!" Kalin cried,"Yusei you sold me out didn;t you!?" he cried out,"You betrayed me!"
"No Kalin, I didn't! I swear! I..."
"I thought we were friends, Yusei!"
Kalin got dragged away kicking and screaming. and All you could hear was Yusei's name in his outraged cries.
