Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Cloud Nine. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own Ducktales, Disney and Jymn Magon do.
(Scrooge's Mansion)
Sam was by no means an idiot when it came to thinks like intelligence. He was competent, smart to a degree of being able to give Gyro a run for his money if only by a small degree… his mechanical skill was also used to help the Spear of Selene before its first and only test drive.
He was clueless on things in Duckberg currently, the fact that his children wanted to go somewhere that Sam continued to forget the name of didn't help.
Sam looked up from his phone at Della. He was glad at the very least they weren't trying to outdo each other to the point where Sam questioned if they would stop.
It did help that Della had nothing to do at the moment, being drained by making sure Huey didn't smash the console into pieces as he went back to try again.
Sam had jokingly stated it reminded him EXACTLY who he was the child of.
Della glared at him tauntingly before going back to looking at the paintings, several of which featured her, Scrooge and Donald on missions.
"Hey, Sam? How come you never used to want to go on missions a lot? You have way more than enough muscle." Della asked, Sam looked up from his phone, caught off guard by the question.
It wasn't that he didn't know, it was that it puzzled him how Della couldn't know.
"Because A. you never asked me a lot and said I should stay back with the others… B. Because you fly like a madwoman and I do not wish to die." Della rolled her eyes at this accusation of her marvelous skills in piloting.
Sam was also mostly joking, Della was a perfect pilot, which made him question his need to be present to help fix the plane.
He had been around even when it was clear Della had learned her lesson about wasting time flying and crashing and such.
Maybe the man just liked keeping him around, or it was cheaper to keep him on and such. Sam never asked because he never found good times to do it… and he stopped caring after a while all together in fact.
"There's also the fact that you never wanted me to. You always used to say I'd break an arm or get skull fractures or something so terrible it would prevent me from ever functioning perfectly again." Sam said before shaking his head with amusement and looking at Della head on as she sat closer.
"Yeah well, I couldn't let the big dumb doofus my husband is, get ripped apart by angry jackals or traps or eaten by sharks or something like that." Sam rolled his eyes as Della leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Should I point out I used to live in Australia? The city with super-sized sharks, snakes, crocs, deadly plants… literally everything on the planet that could do me in?" Sam asked her as she hummed and nodded with clear amusement in her eyes.
Sam and Della were very close despite their playful pretend arguments and pretending to be bitter enemies years ago.
It was enough to fool Scrooge who never expected them at ALL to be in love till they came out and told him themselves they had been dating for months and came to ask his approval.
Donald had a hissy fit, only for Della to get into an argument with her older brother that she was able to make her own choices. Sam had decided to stay out of that family drama as his voice being added to the mix would only make things worse, something that he knew from his own cousin when she wanted to be married.
Sam never did hear back from her, making him frown.
"Yeah… and you always used to tell me 'well I'm much worse because I get really scary when I'm mad and I can be really evil to people I'm mad at.'" Della teased as her husband turned to look at her.
"I do not sound like that." Sam said, poking her nose as she smirked at her husband and went to open her mouth again.
Sam silenced her lips with his own as Della wrapped her around her husband's neck.
She missed her family. She missed her children, she missed Sam, she missed the feeling of dirt under her feet and not lunar rocks or the metal of her own ship.
"EW!" came the cry that broke the duo apart as Dewey looked at the couple before Sam rolled his eyes with clear joy in them.
His son would grow up loving someone, and they'd go to his wedding.
But first Sam would figure out what his children wanted when they went out on another adventure.
But for now? He'd spend time with his wife, he missed them all.
