Costume Party
{SAMANTHA}
Samantha: Hey, Joker, is there such a thing as dreams that reveal the future?
Joker shuffled his deck and drew a card, then read it out loud.
Joker: 'Yes, oh troubled one.'
Joker looked up, the light from the globe on the table making his face look scary. I shivered and held out my hand. He took it and rubbed my palm. His eyes closed slowly.
Joker: Your future is very foggy... Smells like vanilla... It will become very dark... soon...
The batteries in the globe died, leaving us in complete darkness.
Samantha: Uh... You were right... Here's some spare batteries.
I used my other hand to fish through one of my pockets and handed him the batteries. Joker sighed.
Joker: Thanks.
He replaced the batteries in the globe and it turned back on. Joker then returned my hand to me.
Joker: Be careful of blue-haired individuals.
Samantha: Why?
Joker: I saw one in your blood stream... I mean, in your future! Yeah.
I stared at the fortune teller in front of me. He sighed and rolled his eyes.
Joker: Just place your hand on the globe, please.
I did as he suggested and placed my hand on the globe. A vibration came from the globe.
Joker: Ignore that, it's just an earthquake in the Middle East.
I slowly rubbed the glass and then pulled my hand away. Joker grabbed a sack of flour and started whacking it against the table. Fake smoke filled the tent.
Joker: *cough* *cough* Ack, flour... We need a better fake smoke substance... Anyway, look at the globe and tell me what you see.
The fake smoke finally settled down. I stared at the flour-dusted globe.
Samantha: Got a something to wipe it off with?
Joker, who was also flour-dusted, shrugged.
Joker: Use your hands.
I held up my floury hands. Joker rolled his eyes.
Samantha: You look kinda cool with the flour in your hair.
Joker brushed flour off himself.
Joker: What a mess... At least I'm not in charge of cleaning.
I brushed flour off the globe, then stared into it. Joker reached over and brushed flour off me. I glanced up briefly with a questioning look.
Joker: I like your sister.
Samantha: Knew that... Just, why are you brushing flour off me?
Joker: You might have a date... And being messy on a date is bad... What time is it?
I stared at the base of the globe.
Samantha: Almost time for the party.
Joker: Can I dismiss myself soon?
Samantha: I see... my house!
Joker snickered.
Joker: Really?
Samantha: Yeah... Now I'm homesick...
Joker reached over and patted my shoulder gently.
Joker: The great fortune teller is sad for you... Can I go get changed for the party?
I looked up from the globe, and nodded. Joker stood and grabbed my wrist.
Joker: Come on! We have dates, so we don't want to keep them waiting!
I was dragged out of the tent and back to the nearby gingerbread house. Fenny opened the door and let us in.
Fenny: You guys need any help?
Samantha: No, I'm good... I need to sneak back into Luke's house and get my costume on...
Joker went to the bathroom and came back in his costume.
Joker: Ready.
Samantha: Spinner will love it... But there's something missing.
Fenny nodded, and we smirked at each other.
Joker made an annoyed noise, and I petted his head.
Samantha: Thanks, Fenny, the cat candy was very useful.
Joker's cat ears wiggled under my hands, and I touched them.
Samantha: So soft...
Joker whacked my hand away.
Joker: Hey, that tickles... Only Spinner's allowed to touch them!
Samantha: Hey... Want to cause some mischief, Joker?
Joker's ears perked up.
Joker: What kind?
I snuck through the window in Kaito's room. Kaito was napping in his pajamas... or maybe he just hadn't managed to get up yet today. His shirt was coming off and I tried not to stare too much. I snuck into his closet. Kaito remained asleep as I changed into some of his clothes. I snuck back out and observed the sleeping boy again.
Samantha: (Hmm... Wonder where the markers are...) Kai-Kai?
He didn't respond. I left his room and headed to the tea party. Alicia greeted me with a wry smile.
Alicia: Is Kaito going to be mad?
Samantha: Not if he continues sleeping like he is.
Alicia: So... He was sleeping?
Samantha: Yeah.
Alicia: You didn't watch him? Does he look cute when he sleeps?
Samantha: I'm not his stalker. I guess...
Alicia: Most girls would stare, but you just... Argh. Just what runs through that head of yours?
Samantha: Lots of stupid jokes... And maybe some random vocaloid songs.
Alicia: Why'd I even ask...
Samantha: I don't know.
{KAITO}
When I awoke, the window was oddly open and a cool night breeze came through it. I crawled out of a mess of blankets and walked over to my open closet door.
Kaito: (Samantha was here... Am I mad or not?) Again?
I walked down stairs, still in my pajamas. I stopped a few steps from the bottom.
Kaito: (Where is my shirt? Is it normal to lose your shirt in your sleep?) Luke?
The kitchen light was on and Luke stood by the sink washing tea party dishes. He looked up from his work.
Luke: Hi, sleepyhead.
I found a seat at the counter and watched him work. Outside, I could see lots of stuff happening. It looked like someone had pie in their face. Luke was wearing something random from his closet. He calmly served me ice cream and watched me devour it.
Luke: You slept all day... You know that, right?
Kaito: And I want to sleep some more.
Luke: Why?
Kaito: I was awake for three days because of a caffeinated lollipop. I kinda want to make up for that missing sleep...
Luke shrugged.
Luke: Suit yourself.
I finished and nodded to the door. The back door.
Kaito: I'm gonna step outside.
Luke: Use the front door.
I raised my eyebrow.
Luke: A crazy party is happening out there... If you want to get back to bed then I wouldn't recommend going out there... And if you are going out there, please get a shirt on.
Luke finished what he was saying before heading upstairs. I rubbed the rest of the sleep from my eyes, and grabbed the back door handle. I stepped outside and headed to the forest. Samantha attacked me.
Samantha: Kai-Kai!
Kaito: Mantha-chan!
I yelped her name in surprise, and I barely managed to keep my balance.
Kaito: Careful... I don't really want to fall over.
Samantha pulled my coat off her shoulders and hung it over mine. Her ears were slightly pink, and she hugged me.
Samantha: Keep a shirt on or something, Kai-Kai.
Kaito: (Why does everyone want me to wear a shirt?) Sure, whatever.
I zipped my coat up, and Samantha visibly relaxed. I glanced back at the tea party area. Spinner was hugging Joker, who looked happy. The wizards were shooting fireworks, and two cats ran away from a horde of wuggles... both cats were screaming really loudly.
Samantha: Can I hug you again?
Kaito: Sure.
She wrapped her arms around me and buried her face in my chest. I watched her silently.
Samantha: You smell nice...
Kaito: Hmm.
Samantha: Like vanilla.
Kaito: Really?
Samantha: Yeah...
She hugged tighter, and I felt my chest start to hurt.
Kaito: A little gentler please, I don't really want to see a doctor.
Samantha: I wonder what I smell like...
Kaito: You smell like you.
Samantha: You're no fun.
Kaito: Hmm.
Samantha: And you're too quiet.
I rubbed the top of her head.
Kaito: I have nothing to say.
Samantha sighed.
Nothing to talk about this time. Except apologizing for taking so long to get another chapter up... All ej's fault.
(Sorry about that, Sushi-sama. Sorry, readers... Here, have a random unrelated explanation. 'Kaikai' is a ship name for Kaito x himself, and 'Kai-Kai' is just a nickname for Samantha to call him.)
Sushi out! And ej will try to get you guys more chapters soon.
(*salutes*)
