Evangeline was waiting at the door by the time she stepped into their apartment.
"So? What happened?" She jumped up and down excitedly as Lysandra flopped down on the couch.
"Come on, what was it like?" she perched on the arm of the couch.
"It was rutting hell."
Evangeline gasped indignantly, "You say I can't say things like that!"
"I know, I know, but it's true." She offered the child a tired smile. "It really was bad."
They lapsed into quiet for a moment and Lysandra tilted her head back onto the cushions with a sigh, utterly drained.
"Sooooo…"
Lysandra huffed a laugh. "So what?"
"What happened!?" came the impatient response.
"Too much."
"Pleeeease."
"Oh all right." Lysandra sat up and wrapped the girl in a hug.
"My friend won."
"Seriously?" Evangeline twisted around to look up at her. "That's it?"
She nodded.
"Then why was it so bad?"
"Because she nearly didn't, Ev."
"Why?"
"Because they cheated."
"Who? How?"
Lysandra hesitated. She was only a girl. Only a child. Yet she had experienced more than most children.
"The people she was fighting. They poisoned her wine."
A small gasp. "What with?"
Lysandra's voice was barely a whisper. All she could think of was Celaena, writhing on the ground.
"Bloodbane."
Evangeline quietened. Lysandra had taught her about poisons, about what they did. Rifthold was too dangerous a place not to.
And Bloodbane, she knew, was bad. Really bad.
"Is she… alive?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yes, gods, yes." Lysandra loosed a shuddering breath.
"How much?"
"More than enough."
Tears glistened in Lysandra's eyes.
"But… the fight – was she hurt?"
"Yes."
"Badly?"
"Very."
The girl paused for a moment.
"Is that why you wouldn't let me come?"
Lysandra only nodded.
Author's Note : I know that was a short chapter but i'm sort of jumping forwards a bit from here and that doesn't fit in anywhere else. It was just mainly to capture Lysandra's reaction as during the battle i mainly focussed on the fighting. Always remember to let me know if you have any ideas and all reviews are welcome.
