[STARFLEET SETTLEMENT]
Kathryn stared at Chakotay. "Some of the Maquis it seemed wanted to come back to our settlement and join us."
Chakotay walked up to his wife and placed a hand on her belly where the baby bump was just starting. "Can we trust them?"
Kathryn sighed. "We have all made mistakes, maybe we should forgive them their mistakes."
"We have so much to lose though."
Kathryn went up to her husband. "Henley is pregnant too Chakotay maybe she saw the error in her ways."
Chakotay drew in a deep breath. "Maybe but do we really trust them? They have already tried to destroy what we were trying to create."
She walked up to him and traced the lines of the tattoo on his face. "We had a lot more to start with from the remains of Voyager. Maybe they realized their mistake and want to come and help us create the society we've begun."
"Kathryn do we want to risk having them in our midst?"
She sighed, "Years ago when I invited the Maquis to join my crew I wasn't sure I could trust you either. What you're feeling now is what I felt then; and it all worked out for the best. Maybe we have to give them the same chance we gave you."
His lips enveloped hers. "I almost forgot what a kind generous person you were." He pulled away as he heard their daughter beginning to stir. "Let's have a meeting with what's left of the senior staff and decide how we're going to handle this."
Chakotay stared at Kathryn. Let's do this tomorrow."
Kathryn bowed her head. "Fine but when we go back to our house after we retrieve Kayla from B'Elanna and Tom – we need to talk."
Chakotay grabbed Kathryn's hand and off they went.
[JANEWAY HOUSE]
The couple made their way back to their house. Chakotay stared at his wife holing their six-month-old daughter. Soon that child would be a big sister. "Kathryn would you trust the other people from the Maquis group to join us?"
Kathryn glared at Chakotay. "I didn't trust you all when you joined my crew either; but necessity makes strange bedfellows." She sighed, "Maybe they need us as we all needed each other when we were thrown in the Delta Quadrant."
She looked at him trying to make him understand. "I didn't trust you implicitly until after you and I were stuck on New Earth for a good couple of months. We planted those Talaxian tomatoes and that was the moment we came together in my mind."
Chakotay stared at her. "When I saw you on my screen for the first time; you were so beautiful: I fell in love. I didn't want to but I did."
Kathryn had tears in her eyes as she nodded. "Like I said I didn't trust you implicitly until New Earth, I hear the angry warrior legend and I fell in love; That someone could trust me and love me that much was something that I had given up on."
He brought her close to him and kissed her lips as his hand approached her belly. He smiled at her, "So boy or girl?"
She laughed, "I have no idea."
He stared at her. "So tomorrow we bring the others into the fold?"
She drew in a deep breath. "It appears so. We have three houses that are almost complete I say we keep the Federation crew where they are and make them shared housing for the new members of the society."
Chakotay nodded, "We have to make this work."
She stared at him, "I want to visit their colony tomorrow. I have to speak to their leader and see how they want to proceed – if they want to proceed."
Chakotay nodded and took his wife upstairs for the night. They picked Kayla out of the portable playpen in the living room and took her up to the nursery.
The couple laid down and got ready for a peaceful sleep.
[0600 Next Morning – Janeway/Chakotay house]
Chakotay woke up to the sound of Kathryn losing whatever was in her stomach.
He moved the hair out of her way. "Morning sickness?"
Kathryn sat beside the toilet and nodded. "I don't have time for this, I have to make our society work today."
He nodded at her. "I understand that Kathryn, but we have to take care of you and the little peanut."
She stood up hand flattening the shirt over the baby bump.
It was at that moment that Kayla started fussing. "Well looks like someone is up." She stared at Chakotay, "Can you get her bottle ready and the cereal for her breakfast? I'll go and check if she needs a change."
Chakotay nodded and started preparing the bottle and the pablum.
As soon as Kayla's breakfast was made; he cooked some eggs and plain toast for Kathryn. "You ready to try and eat some breakfast?"
Kathryn looked at little green at the gills as she began feeding the cereal to Kayla.
Chakotay walked up to Kathryn and took over feeding Kayla. "Honey go have some tea and we'll work up how we're going to get the other colony and integrate them into our life."
She nodded and watched Kayla beginning to nod off in her high chair.
Chakotay took the child upstairs and placed her in her crib, "Okay Kathryn, Kayla is down for a nap. Let's talk about what we are going to do with the Maquis."
"I want to go to their camp and bring the Doctor with me."
Chakotay bit his tongue, "You're not going alone with the Doctor."
Kathryn sighed exasperated. "I will take Tom and Harry with me as well as the Doctor."
Chakotay was still unimpressed. "I'll stay with B'Elanna and watch Katie and Kayla."
Kathryn nodded and went to the Paris house where Tom and Harry were waiting for her. "Shall we go and try to reunite our family?"
Paris nodded, "Let's go Kat."
Kathryn smiled and ran a hand down her front trying to flatten her shirt. "Let's go."
