Chapter 21: The Festival Begins!
2 weeks, was a short time for the students of the first year. The students were getting ready to show the world their strength and prove themselves to the world. Apart from preparing themselves for the sports festival, the students were also practicing for their music show. The preparations were going on for the festival were on full throttle even on the day before the festival. However, one of our heroes doesn't seem so cheery...
Day of the Sports Festival
Izuku, his friends, his classmates and the rest of the first years were all lined up in the sides, waiting for the announcement. At the podium that looked over the whole stadium, Aizawa and Mic were sitting at the announcers desk waiting for the signal to start.
"Aaaalllllright, Folks. We are ready to begin this year's sports festival. I am your announcer, the DJ hero Present Mic and with me, I have the one, the only, the grumpy mummy, Eraserhead."
"Do I have to be here?" Aizawa said, deadpanned.
"Yes yes you do Eraser." Mic said. "Now back to the festival. Let me introduce your referee for this year, the R-rated hero, Midnight," She walked up to the stage.
"Alright," midnight said. "Let's introduce the participants, first we have the class, that survived a villain attack on their first week here, the heroics class 1-A. Next, we have an equally awesome class who still needs some screen time class 1-B, next we have the general education courses 1-C and 1-D, the business classes 1-E and 1-F and finally the support course 1-G and 1-H." as
As the classes were announced the students walked out, 1-A being led by Izuku, 1-B being led by Kendo and the rest of the classes being lead by their class rep.
"Now, I call the first-year representative, from the heroics course, 1-A class rep, Izuku Midoriya!" Midnight said. Izuku was surprised by this. "Come on Deku, get up there!" Katsuki said, pushing him up.
Izuku is slightly shocked, but puts a brave face and walks up the stairs, taking the mic from midnight and turning to the rest of the school and the audience.
"Hello, everyone. now I know most of you must be thinking that I am your, quote-unquote representative, just because I got first on the entrance exams, and I know it is unfair but this sports festival is your chance to shine and show the world that, You. Are. Here. take this as an open challenge or take this as a chance to learn whatever you take this to be, give it your best because I know for sure that we are going to give it ours. So everyone, let's all go beyond."
"PLUS ULTRA!"
Izuku returned to his class, as the crowd cheered on and clapped at his speech. All Might shed a tear from his eye. "I'm so proud of him."
"Alright, with such an energetic speech by our representative, we move on to the first event of today that is" midnight spun a wheel next to her.
The wheel stopped on the obstacle race. "Our first event is the Obstacle Race! I request all the students to make their way to the entrance. There are signs that will point you to the entrance. You have 10 minutes to get ready and get to the entrance. The event shall start shortly. Oh and for everyone watching at home, don't leave your seats, there is a surprise in store for all of you after the second event."
Before the event everyone was getting prepared. "God this sucks," Mina said, "I wish I could've worn my hero costume instead of these gym uniforms." Izuku looked to Kenshi who was feeling down. "Are you alright?" he asked, approaching him. Kenshi looked to Izuku. "Oh… I'm fine," he said.
Izuku then went to Momo. "What's bothering him?" he asked. "I'm not sure," Momo said, "He's been like this since last week." Kenshi remembered what happened after band practice.
He forgot a guitar pick and went back to grab it. He overheard talking. He followed the sound and saw Momo talking with…. Todoroki. She looked like she was laughing. The next thing he saw broke his heart inside. Momo hugged Todoroki. He couldn't bear to look anymore and walked away.
Just the thought of that memory was enough to bring a tear to his eye. Someone else approached him. "Midoriya I told you I'm fi…." he said before looking. It was Todoroki. "Hey, Momo says you seemed down since last week," he said, "Do you mind if we talk for a minute." Kenshi thought for a second. "Sure," he said.
Later they were outside where others couldn't see them. "So I'm not usually one to ask about someone's feelings, but... what's going on?" Todoroki asked. "It's nothing," Kenshi said, "Something just happened along the way and I've been feeling down about it. I don't know if-"
"It's Momo isn't it?" Todoroki asked. Kenshi was shocked that the half and half quirk user figured him out so quickly. He then looked down to the floor. "Yes," he said.
"It's obvious that you're crazy about her," Todoroki said, "You think I haven't seen you talking with her all the time?" "Well, you like her too," Kenshi said, "Since that's the case I decided to stay out of the way."
"That's not…. Really the case," Todoroki said, "I just needed a female's perspective on dating. There's somebody else." "Wait, what?" Kenshi asked. "Yea, it's kind of embarrassing to talk about," Todoroki said, "But you seemed down after seeing me with her, and I figured I should clear things out. I'm not trying to steal your crush." Kenshi smiled.
"Thanks for talking with me about this," Kenshi said, "I feel a lot better knowing this." "A little word of advice," Todoroki said, "Don't wait. Tell her how you feel when you get the chance." Kenshi nodded. He then embraced Todoroki in a hug. He was surprised at first but then hugged back. Later Kenshi and Todoroki went back to the waiting room.
"Jojo, you're back," Mina said. Momo approached him. "Is everything ok now?" she asked. He smiled and nodded. "I was just down about something but Todoroki talked to me about it and now I'm good. I'm sorry if I worried anybody" Momo smiled. "That's good," she said.
Todoroki returns, walking up to Izuku, "Midoriya, objectively speaking you are clearly one of the classes strongest if not the strongest student, and being his son, you definitely will have a lot of attention on your so this is my war declaration to you because I am going to win." Izuku began to go Full Cowl.
"Woah, there Todoroki. This is no time for classmates to turn on each other." Kirishima said. "It's alright, Kirishima, that speech where I openly challenged the other sections was also for you guys, so yeah. I accept your challenge Todoroki." he turns to the rest of the class, "And i accept any and all challenges you guys put up for me."
"DEKU!" Katsuki shouted. "Make sure you don't lose, I'll be waiting for you in the finals."
"Well, ill be waiting for you as well Kaachan. Hope the best man wins." izuku says with a smile.
"Of course, I'll be the one to win.'' Katsuki says, returning the smile with a grin of his own.
The 2 fist bump and walk away.
Later on, all of the students participating were in a starting position. Izuku was channeling power stack energy to his legs. "On your mark, get set," Midnight said, "STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART!"
Izuku started dashing forward. He was neck to neck with Todoroki. He had frozen some of the competition in their tracks. Literally. Most of Class 1-A made it out of the ice and started to catch up. Mineta caught up to Todoroki. "How bout you get a taste of my ultra…."
He was knocked out by a robot. They were the same robots from the entrance exams. "This just got a whole lot interesting!" Present Mic said, "The first obstacle, a robo inferno!" Izuku looked at them. "So many of them," he said, "But I can't let that scare me."
He channeled OFA and Power Stack at the same time. "Power Stack Plus, Full Cowling!" electric sparks were dancing around Izuku. Some veins appeared around him, but nothing too noticeable. Todoroko froze a few of the robots sending them falling down. Most of the students moved so they wouldn't get crushed.
Kirishima hardened himself to keep from getting damaged. "No drawback for me aside from how long I can hold this form," he said. Tetsutetsu pops out of another hole in the fallen robot. "Oh come on! I'll stand out even less. The dude has literally the same quirk as me!" Kirishima and Tetsutetsu shouted at the same time looking at each other.
Bakugo started blowing up the robots to clear a path. Deku started fighting off the robots. His strength has doubled since he started fusing OFA and Power Stack. "Double the quirks, double the power!" he thought as he punched a robot hard, "True strength when you use Power Stack+!"
Kenshi pulled out a couple of daggers. He then jumped on a robot placing the daggers in multiple areas. As soon as they were placed, Kenshi jumped down and pressed a trigger. The daggers exploded one by one sending the robot falling. Needless to say the students were amazed.
"WOOOOOO!" Kenshi said, "Yippee Ki Yay Motherfu…. I'll just stick with mother." "Gamer boy just pulled an explosive finisher!" Present Mic said. Kenshi did the floss celebrating his victory. He then did a pose and said, "Fatality."
Other students were using their quirks to evade the robots. Momo had fired a cannon at a few of them. "Nothing to it!" she said. The robots were only the beginning. There were platforms and ropes all around. Tsu started climbing on them.
"A glorified tightrope walk." A student from the support course was putting on some gear. "With this baby, I think I can handle this," she said.
Izuku was making his way around the ropes, hopping from pillar to pillar making his way forward. Kenshi made a mod of a jetpack from Kirby SuperStar. He charged up fuel and then started flying around. "Wooooo!"
Present Mic said, "Looks like Jotaro has found a way to avoid the pits!" The next part was a minefield.
Izuku was neck to neck with Kenshi. He noticed he had some different shoes on him. "Your quirk is pretty spectacular," Izuku commented.
"Thanks, same with yours," Kenshi said, "But you might wanna come up with something other than Power Stack+, cause its just your quirk with a + in front of it."
Ochako decided to use her technique and make herself weightless. She jumped over the mines with no sweat. Kurumi and Maruki were watching. "That's my girl!" Maruki said. "That's my baby!" Kurumi screamed.
Izuku saw some mines exploding and students being launched everywhere. His legs were getting tired from all the running. He had an idea.
"It's a risky move," he said to himself, "But it's worth a shot!" He channeled energy into his right arm and punched the ground. He made a few mines explode. To his surprise they sent him flying in the direction he wanted. "Why stop there," he said, "Let's keep the combo going!" He punched the ground again and he continued to fly. Other students were amazed.
Katsuki smirked. "He never fails to deliver." Izuku made it to the finish line. "Midoriya finishes in first place!" Present Mic said. "Izuku!" Inko said watching from home. Izuku's arm started healing from damage taken.
Ochako and Kenshi came after him. "Deku you were spectacular!" Ochako said, "Punching the ground to make explosions was like… whoa!" Todoroki looked at Izuku.
"Not bad," he said. Momo made it. "Goodness, looks like I got some competition," she said.
Mineta was holding on to her from behind. "Two birds with one stone!" he said. "You are the worst!" Momo said.
"I may be the worst, but I call myself a genius," he said, "Cause I'm sticking to a girl's body." he gets shot with what looked like a bullet on top of his head and he fell. It was Kenshi.
"Get over yourself. Oh and don't worry Yaomomo, it was a paintball," he said. Momo smiled. "Thanks Jojo."
"42 students have earned the right to advance to the next round!" Midnight said, "For those who failed take heart. The showstopper is being prepared. But to get your feet wet, this next event will have students go all out!"
The next round was a Cavalry Battle. "In groups of 2-4, form a horseback configuration, and swipe the headband of your enemies," Midnight explained, "Everyone will receive points based on their performance in the last trial. The person at 42nd gets 5 and then the points increase with each successive contestant getting 5 points more than the one after him. And 1st place is granted with, 10,000,000."
Everyone glared at him. Ochako sided with Izuku. "We'll need two more people for this," he said. "Can we join?" Kenshi asked teamed up with Momo.
"Sure. and since its the 2 of you, i have the perfect plan for us." Izuku says as he explains the plan. Momo nodded her head. "That's genius"
10 minutes later, there are 6 teams with 3 members and 6 teams with 4 members. "The teams for the cavalry battle are as follows -
Team Uraraka - Uraraka, Jotaro, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu
Team Bakugou - Bakugou, Camie, Sero, Kirishima
Team Tetsutetsu - Tetsutetsu, Kendo, Shiozaki,
Team Monoma - Monoma, Hayate
Team Todoroki - Todoroki, Iida, Kaminari, Ashido
Team Shinso - Shinso, Ojiro, Aoyama, Shoda
Team Shoji - Shoji, Mineta, Asui
Team Tokage - Tokage, Yanagi, Komiri, Awase
Team Kodai - Kodai, Bondo, Fukidashi, Tsuburaba
Team Rin - Rin, Shishida, Kamakiri, Juzo
Team Tsunori - Tsunori, Kuroiro, Kaibara
Team Hagakure - Hagakure, Sato, Tokoyami
"Contestant, you all have 20 minutes to gain points to get to the final round. The top 16 contestants will be taken into the final battle, which like all the previous years is going to be the one v one battle. This year however, there is a small surprise in store for whoever wins the battle. What that surprise is, well, you'll have to wait and watch folks."midnight announced on the mic. " Participants in your position. 3…...2…..1… GOOOOOO!"
As the round began, team Uraraka is rushed on by most teams. Kenshi quickly summons 2 long shields and hands one to Momo to protect their points from the barrage of on coming attacks. "Excellent strategy Jojo!" Momo said as she shielded herself from oncoming attacks.
After a few hits, the shields begun to flash red. Just as the shields broke from the attacks, Izuku slams his leg down on the stage causing the stage around his team to crack and the teams to lose their balance. Some other teams like Team Monoma, Team Bakugou and Team Todoroki took this time to take some of the points from the teams that had lost balance.
Team Monoma then ran towards Team Bakugou aiming to steal some points from them. This causes Bakugou to rage and his team runs after Monoma's team. "I'm gonna kick your ass Rat face!"
With team Uraraka, Todoroki's team finally escaped the teams that were after them and they were now after Izuku's million points. They approach Izuku's team, but Iida and Kaminari are pushed aside by a long pole that Momo had created. Izuku's team ran away from Todoroki's team, only to be followed by Todorok'is team.
Soon they were cornered by Todoroki's team. Todoroki sends a barrage of massive ice structures to try and force team Uraraka out of the stage. The ice was broken by Izuku's punches and the ice debris was floated by Ochako and smashed back towards Todoroki and his team.
As the ice was about to hit, Iida uses recipro burst to kick the pieces into smaller parts. This came that the cost of his movement. With some more pieces of ice coming at them, this caused Todoroki to involuntarily activate his fire to melt the pieces of ice. This moment of hesitation from Todoroki's side allows team Ochako to escape them.
Team Ochako's troubles were not over yet as they were soon found out by Bakugou and his team. Bakugou immediately used his explosions to fly towards Ochako to steal her points, only to stop mid way because of the bell ringing.
"Alright, with that bell, the Cavalry battle has now ended. We request all the contestants to stay where they are, as we calculate the points of all the teams."
A few minutes later, midnight came back with a piece of paper.
"The results are in the following teams are going to the next round.
In fourth place, we have Team Shinso. In Third place we have Team Todoroki. In second place we have a tie with Team Bakugou and in first place and still in possession of their one million points we have team Uraraka."
Suddenly Ojiro raises his hand, "miss midnight, i would like to withdraw from the one v one round. I don't remember much from the cavalry battle so I'd like to withdraw."
Aoyama and Shoda also raise their hands, "Mom I'd like to wthidraw as well."
"Uhh, alright, since we have 2 contestants withdrawing, we allow the next team to enter which is team Monoma and since we still have one spot left, team Tetsutetsu is allowed to send one member as well. Team Tetsutestu, you have 5 minutes to give us one name from you team to be a part of the one v one battle."
"We'd like Tetsutetsu to be a part of the one v one. He has done the best out of our whole team."
"Alright, the contestants for the one v one are as follows - Bakugou, Camie, Sero, Kirishima, Todoroki, Iida, Kaminari, Ashido, Monoma, Hayate, Tetsutetsu, Shinso, Uraraka, Jotaro, Midoriya and Yaoyorozu. The contestants will now have a 2 hour break to prepare and have their lunch. I also request the spectators here and at home to stay where they are, there is a small surprise in store for all of you."
The students return to the stands, with some students of 1-A going to a 'greenroom' to get ready for their performance after a short lunch.
Jirou, Kenshi, Momo, Izuku, Katsuki and Ochako were getting ready for their performance when Izuku was called away for a minute by Todoroki.
"Hey, guys, mind if we talk for a minute?" Todoroki asked Izuku.
"Sure Todoroki, guys, I'll be back in a while. Jojo, mind checking my guitars tuning?" "Alright, I'll do that, but don't take too long, we're on in like 15 minutes.'' Kenshi told Izuku.
All Might was watching everything unfold. "Your son eh?" asked someone behind him.
It was the second best pro hero, Endeavor. "Well, its been too long since we chatted, like ten years ago I think," All Might said. Endeavor scoffed. "So you think your son will become the next pro hero.
"Why so cold?" All Might asked, "Your son did outstanding by only using half his power. You must've taught him well."
"Wrong," Endeavor said, "That carefree attitude is why most villains have escaped your grasp from time to time. You think that will get Midoriya or whatever his name is, to be a great hero?"
All Might was listening to him ramble on. "Just remember that I will make my son a true hero and have him surpass you," Endeavor said, "That is the main reason why he was born." He walked away. "You never changed," All Might said, "Not one bit."
