Epilogue
It was the middle of August, when Mamoru, and Usagi ran into Seiya again. The last time they had seen Seiya was at Usagi's high school graduation, a few months prior. The months following Usagi's blow up at Seiya, the guy had come around once in awhile, but mostly avoided Mamoru as much as possible then he disappeared after graduation. Mamoru and Usagi had heard his pop group had been chosen as an opener for some big name pop artist, and they went on tour right after graduation. No one seemed to really care though. Especially Mamoru.
He and Usagi were walking back to their apartment after having dinner at her parent's house. Yes their apartment as she had officially moved in the day of his birthday. Her mother had cried about losing her baby. Her father had choked up as well, but accepted that Usagi was adult enough to move out. Plus Mamoru's apartment was closer to the college she would be attending soon.
They had been enjoying a quiet, leisurely walk home when they heard someone behind them call out.
"Oi. Bun Head! Long time no see!" Said the male voice.
Mamoru and Usagi turned to find Seiya strolling casually toward them. Mamoru put his arm around Usagi, and placed his hand on her shoulder. She threaded her fingers through his hand, showing off the heart shaped, pink diamond engagement ring he had given her on her 18th birthday. He had proposed at sunset during the beach party he threw for her. It had been perfect and she had cried tears of joy as she tackled him to the sand, yelling "yes" over and over. One of his favorite memories.
"Good evening Seiya." Usagi responded politely.
"How have you been?" Seiya asked, glancing to Mamoru than looking back at Usagi.
"I've been wonderful thank you." Usagi responded.
"I'm back in town for awhile. Want to grab a drink, and catch up?" Seiya asked.
"No thank you. We were just heading home." Usagi responded.
"Home? But don't your parents live the other direction?" Seiya questioned, looking confused.
"They do. I don't. I live with Mamo now."
"You do?"
"Yes I do."
"Oh. Well maybe tomorrow?"
"Sorry, but no. I start my first college classes tomorrow."
"College? More school? Why?"
"Because I want to do something meaningful with my life. I want to be somebody, make a difference. I need to go to college for that."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"Nice ring. Graduation present?"
Usagi slid her fingers from Mamoru's, and brought her hand around so the ring faced her. She admired it for a moment, than put her hand out toward Seiya so he could look closer at it. He leaned forward to inspect it.
"Nope. Engagement ring. Mamoru proposed to me on my birthday, and I said yes. Isn't it wonderful?" Usagi responded happily. Seiya shot back up straight, wide eyed.
"You're….you're engaged?" Seiya asked hesitantly.
"Yes I am. I couldn't be happier." Usagi responded as she nestled closer into Mamoru's side, and smiled up at him.
Mamoru smiled right back then kissed her forehead. He whispered into her skin "I love you Usako."
"I love you too." She whispered back than turned back to Seiya.
"I, uh. Wow. I hadn't expected that." Seiya finally said.
"You would be the only one. Well we better be going. We have an early morning." Usagi said as she turned both her and Mamoru around to continue walking home.
"Uh. Can I call you some time so we could catch up?" Seiya called out from behind them.
Usagi and Mamoru stopped walking. She looked up at Mamoru. He could see mischief in her eyes. He simply smiled, and nodded. She turned her head back to Seiya.
"I'd rather that you didn't. I'm quite happy, and don't want trouble. By the way. I'm sorry your tour didn't work out. What happened?" Usagi asked, even though she already knew.
"Uh. Personality differences." Seiya responded.
"That ego got you in trouble again. Maybe now you'll learn to get rid of it. Good luck Seiya." Usagi stated then she and Mamoru walked away.
When they reached their apartment, Usagi started giggling. Mamoru just looked her up and down for a solid minute before he rushed her. He kissed her hard, as he lifted her up in his arms. He was half way to the bedroom, when he pulled back from the kiss to look her in the eyes. He was once again blown away by the love shining in her eyes, and that she was all his.
"I love you so much Usako." Mamoru said smiling at her.
"I love you too Mamo." Usagi said then kissed him again.
Mamoru's last thought before his mind was swept clean of everything, but Usagi was "eat that Seiya". He also vowed to never let himself get jealous of another guy's interest in Usagi again.
Sadly, he learned quickly, that vow was impossible to uphold. Now that he know what that feeling was, he had a hard time keeping a lid on being jealous of other guys being drawn to Usagi. He now understood why Usagi had gotten how she did about women trying to make moves on him. Usagi taught him how to control it, and when it was not warranted or necessary.
One time he got upset about a guy he THOUGHT was flirting with Usagi. Only to find out that the guy had been questioning her about Mamoru, and how to get a date with him. She hadn't gotten jealous though. Just laughed, and told the guy he would have to fight her for Mamoru's love, and affection.
The experience with Seiya taught him a lot about trust that he hadn't even realized he didn't know. He had been reminded to always trust in Usagi, as well as to trust in her instincts. He also learned to trust in his ability to not only keep her, but in his ability to keep her so happy she never even looked at another guy. Lessons that would stay with him for a long time to come.
