The finale for year one begins! Let's see if I can finish year one before I leave next Wednesday!

Later that evening, the small group snuck out of their rooms and made their way through the common room, only to run into Neville Longbottom.

"Neville, this is important, please move!" Cried Brooklyn in the calmest way he can. Neville shook his head.

"No, you'll get Gryffindor into trouble again! I'll fight you!" Harry stared in disbelief.

"We meant stand up to Malfoy, not us!" He exclaimed. But Neville didn't listen.

Hermione had a sorry look on her face as she drew her wand. "I'm really sorry about this. Petrificus Totalus!" And with that, Neville's legs and arms snapped to their sides, and he fell over, his eyes staring up at them all in horror.

Brooklyn was thunderstruck. "What did you do to him?" He asked.

"Full body bind," Hermione answered. "Sorry, Neville!" They all crept around Neville and climbed through the portrait hole.

With some effort, they were all able to squeeze under the Invisibility cloak together again as they made their way to the third floor corridor. Brooklyn had to make sure his tail wasn't showing, though it was rather hard.

"Ow!" hissed Hermione. "Ron, you stood on my foot!" "Sorry," muttered Ron as they reached the door. Hermione used her Alohomora charm and opened the door, revealing the three headed dog, apparently asleep. Brooklyn saw why: a harp was playing music by itself.

"Somebody's put a spell on that harp," he observed as they moved closer, taking off the cloak.

Harry saw the dog's paw on the trap door. "We have to move it's paw." Ron's mouth fell open. "What?"

"It's on the trapdoor, it's the only way we can get it open," Brooklyn said as he and Harry moved into position.

With all they had, they moved the heavy paw, which caused Fluffy to snort in his sleep. They backed away, tensing as they waited for the dog to wake up. But he still slept.

Brooklyn then went over and pulled the trap door open. He couldn't see the bottom at all, just darkness.

"Looks like we need to jump," he told them. "It's too narrow for me to glide down, but I can just fit."

Harry nodded. He turned to the others. "Me and Brooklyn will go first. Don't follow until we signal you. If something bad happens, get yourselves out." That's when Brooklyn noticed that the music had ended, which turned his blood cold.

"Does it seem quiet to anybody else?" He asked nervously as they all looked up to see the dog's three heads growling down at them.

"Jump!" Harry yelled as he and Hermione did, but Ron was just staring open mouthed until Brooklyn pushed him in, and jumped in after with the dog's teeth barely missing Brooklyn's wings as he fell down, down into the darkness, his arms lightly hitting the sides.

Just when he thought the fall would never end, he landed on something soft. Brooklyn felt around him, which felt like strange ropes everywhere. He spotted his friends who landed like he did.

"You guys okay?" He asked, as they nodded, though inside he felt he should have saved that question for later as he suddenly felt the 'ropes' tie around his legs. He gave a startled shout as he tried to pull free, only for the ropes to continue to wrap around him.

Only Hermione seemed the least worried. "Stop moving! This is Devil's Snare, you have to relax. If you don't, it will only kill you faster!"

Ron was not amused. He seemed to be struggling even more than the rest of them. "Kill us faster? Now I can relax!"

Brooklyn felt something inside him to trust Hermione as he forced himself to stop struggling. He then felt himself sinking until he ended up underneath the plant, with Hermione landing next to him.

He heard Harry and Ron yelling out for them. "Just relax! You'll be fine!" Brooklyn yelled up at them. Harry joined them a few minutes later, but Ron was still struggling and yelling.

"Hermione, you have to know how to stop this thing from killing Ron!" Brooklyn exclaimed, worry for his friend growing as his screams grew. She looked scared but then something lit up in her eyes.

"Devil's Snare likes the dark and the damp, but will sulk in the sun! We need sunlight!" She drew her wand.

"Lumos Solem!" She yelled, a burst of bright light came from it causing Brooklyn and Harry to shield their eyes. Ron screamed as he fell and hit the floor.

Brooklyn helped Ron to his feet. "You okay?" He asked. Ron just looked dazed as he looked up. "Lucky we didn't panick!"

Harry and Brooklyn looked at him deadpanned. "Lucky Hermione pays attention in Herbology," Harry corrected as they eventually continued onward.

As they approached the next door a strange rustling sound was coming from it. "What is it?" Hermione asked.

"Sounds like wings to me," Brooklyn answered as they opened the door, to reveal a room full of flying creatures.

Brooklyn stared at them. "Are those birds?" He exclaimed in surprise. Harry shook his head. "Not birds, keys. And I bet one of them opens the next door."

Harry then saw two broomsticks in the room, and got a curious feeling. Brooklyn saw him go over and reach out to one of the brooms before he heard Ron.

Ron had tried using Alohomora on the door but it didn't work. Hermione looked about, trying to find the key that could open it, but Brooklyn couldn't see how they could find the right one.

But Harry saw it, a silver key that looked like it was already caught and used.

"I'm going to try for the key. Brooklyn, you and the others stay near the next door until I get it. I'm the only one who can see and be fast enough to catch it." The gargoyle nodded as he moved towards the others.

Harry jumped onto the broom and took off. The brass keys all flew away from him as he chased after the silver one, finally catching it in the end and throwing it to Brooklyn. He caught the key, putting it in the lock and heard it click as the door opened. The key then flew away, looking battered after being caught twice. Harry landed and they all went in, nervous about what lay awaiting them in the next room.

It appeared to reveal a whole line of statues right in front of them. Brooklyn felt something familiar about all these statues.

"Is it a graveyard?" Hermione asked in a nervous voice as they looked around. Ron shook his head.

"Not a graveyard, it's a chessboard!" He said in an excited voice as the torches in the room lit up revealing the white and black pieces, and the next door.

Brooklyn stared in amazement. He never thought he'd see a chessboard this big! He and his friends began to walk to the door, but were stopped by the white soldiers. They backed away.

"What do we do now?" Hermione asked in a small voice. Ron looked thoughtful.

"Well, I guess we have to play our way across the room," he said. They all stared at him in disbelief, but eventually agreed.

Ron gave the others certain positions on the board which left him to be a knight. Brooklyn felt nervous as he stood in his place. "What happens now?" He asked.

He looked determined. "White always moves first. And then, we play!"

As he said those words, a white piece moved two squares.

"Ron, you don't think this will be like real wizard chess, do you?" Hermione asked nervously. He looked over their own pieces for a moment then gestures to a pawn.

"You there, D5!" The black pawn moved a few spaces. Brooklyn tensed as the white piece drew its sword and smashed their soldier to pieces. Ron looked at them, his face scared. "Yes, Hermione. I think this will be just like Wizard Chess!"

A lot of their soldiers ended the same way the first pawn did, smashed. Brooklyn was shaking as he watched, memories of his smashed family threatening to overtake him. Stay calm, he told himself. He guessed he should be lucky that he didn't have to move anywhere yet.

The Queen's sightless face turned to Ron.

He sighed. "Look Harry, once I make my move, the Queen will take me. Then you're free to check the King."

Brooklyn thought that this was an insane plan. "No, this shouldn't be the way!" He cried out. But Ron just glared at them. "Do you want to stop Snape from getting the Stone or not?"

Brooklyn didn't even try correcting Ron about Snape again, hoping that Ron wouldn't get killed from this.

"Harry, it's you that has to go on, I know it. Not me, not Hermione, not Brooklyn, you!" Harry looked sad, but eventually nodded.

Ron then moved a few paces to the left. The Queen's stone arm struck out, hitting Ron in the forehead. Brooklyn's eyes widened in horror and Hermione screamed as Ron collapsed to the floor, knocked out.

Hermione tried to go to him, but Harry shook his head. "Don't move. Don't forget, we're still playing!" He then went a few squares over to the King. His eyes narrowed.

"Check Mate!"

The King's sword fell to the ground, and Brooklyn breathed a small sigh of relief. They won. The friends went to check on Ron. Brooklyn felt a pulse. He was still alive.

Harry sighed. "Ron is right, I have to go on by myself." But Brooklyn shook his head.

"No, Harry. Who knows what you're going to face in there!" Harry tried to speak but Brooklyn held up his hand. "It doesn't matter if it is Snape or not, no matter what anybody says, I'm going with you. It is a gargoyle's job to protect those who need help. Don't try talking me out of it. You're not doing this alone!"

Harry just stared. Brooklyn was willing to put himself in danger to help him. His eyes filling with tears, he hugged his bond brother.

"I've never had anyone do this for me, Brooklyn. I'm grateful that I got to meet you. You've been the thing closest to family I've been waiting for!" Brooklyn's heart lifted at his words, as he hugged Harry back. They broke away and Brooklyn turned to Hermione.

"Hermione, take Ron up to the Hospital Wing. He needs treatment. Use the brooms from the flying key room to get out and also send a message to Dumbledore about what's happening. He needs to know!" She nodded, her eyes filled with tears for them. "Thank you for being there for Harry," she sobbed. She then also hugged Harry.

"You're a great wizard, you really are." Harry shook his head. "Not as good as you." She laughed softly. "Books and cleverness. But there are more important things, like friendship and bravery. Just please be safe. And watch out for him, Brooklyn."

The gargoyle nodded as he and Harry both stood up, and faced the door. They took each other's hand.

"Together?" Brooklyn asked. Harry smiled. "Together!" Then they both went to the door and made their way inside.

I thank you all for noticing and trying to help make it look good. I'm excited to see where this story goes and ends! :)

P.S. It also helps when I write it on Google Docs so I can make changes before I copy and paste it onto here! It seems only yesterday I had thought up this story and I've gone through a few writing phases, sometimes looking up ideas from the books, movies, and other fics. And I even had little moments where I'd get over excited about this story that I have butterflies in my stomach constantly while I was at the cabin almost making me feel sick (from joy).

Ever since I saw Brooklyn in Gargoyles, I just developed a big liking for him, especially in the episodes Temptation and Future Tense. I just really wanted to write him into another favorite series of mine, Harry Potter.

Let's just pray I can make it through this story, which might be my longest one yet!
