Chapter Eighteen: Flying Lessons and the Big Game
"If your uncle was alive right now, he would have been proud of you." Lupin chuckled.
It was Tuesday and after classes were done he decided to have them explore the enchanted woods. He needed to find some ingredients for their next potion class and Vanessa thought it would be nice to teach them flying lessons.
"You sure inherited his love for pranks from him." Lupin smiled
The three girls just laughed as they scrolled through their phones as they looked at the photos that they took that night.
""Laugh it up you three. Just expect payback soon." Jay glared
"Bring it on, Jamie." Evie teased
When they reached a meadow area they stopped and Vanessa went through her charm purse to take out the brooms. The VK's couldn't believe it as she was able to pull six brooms out of the small bag. Vanessa had them stand in a line with the brooms before standing in front of them with her Firebolt. Everyone was a bit nervous as they never rode a broom before.
"All right you guys, I want you to stick out your right hand over your broom…" She explained "And I want you to say "Up!"
"Up!" They shouted
Hunter's and Jay's broom jumped into their hands at once. Evie's was rolling over on the ground for a few minutes before it finally jumped in her hand. Mal's broom was still for a bit but after a few more tries she finally got it. For Carlos, it moved a little but the pole part ended up hitting him in the face. When he finally got it Vanessa showed them how to mount their brooms without sliding off the end. She then walked up and down the row to correct their grips before mounting hers.
She had them stay low for them to get the hang of the feelings of floating above ground a bit before taking them higher and higher. Each passing minute they have gotten better and started getting more confident. When an hour had passed they had a break.
"Hey Vanessa, what's Quidditch?" Jay asked
"It's a wizard spot. Very popular in the magical world." Vanessa smiled
"How is it played?" Carlos asked
Vanessa smiled brightly as she had hoped they'll ask this question. She dug through her purse again and pulled out her Quidditch trunk kit. When she opened the trunk there were three balls inside along with two club bats. One is the Quaffle and two medium sides balls that were wriggling a little, Bludgers.
"It's easy to understand but not too easy to play. There are seven players on the team but have different positions. There are three players that are called Chasers." She explained. Then she drew three circles in the dirt before taking the Quaffle. "This is called the Quaffle. Now the Chasers throw the Quaffle to each other and try to get it through one of the hoops to score a goal." She pointed to the drawn hoops. "If I throw the Quaffle in one of these hoops I score ten points. Kind of like baseball." She paused for a second to let it sink in their mind before continuing on. "Then there is the Keeper. He is the one that defends the hoops from the other players from scoring."
"Okay, then what are those for?" Hunter asked
He pointed at the Bludgers and Vanessa took out the two short bats from the trunk before handing them to Hunter and Jay.
"You're gonna need this." She said
They took the bats with a raised brow.
"Okay everyone stand back. These are called Bludgers. Nasty buggers they are." She said
They all stepped back as she released one and it rose high in the air. It came back down heading straight at Hunters' face. Hunter quickly swung at the ball before it could hit him. It was a great hit and it zigzagged around before it came towards Jay. The son of Jafar did a side flip around and swung his bat at the Bludger. The ball zigzagged again would have hit Carlos next but Lupin took out his wand and froze it in place.
"Thank you uncle Remus." Vanessa said and placed it back in the trunk.
Lupin nodded and went back to work.
"You two have good arms." Vanessa smirked "Now there are two players that are called Beaters. The Beaters try to keep the Bludger away from their players or hit them towards the other team."
"So there are three Chasers, two Beater and one Keeper,...that's six. What's the seventh?" Carlos asked
"The Seeker." Vanessa smirked
She opened a hatch and took out the golden Snitch.
"This is the Golden Snitch and it's the most important ball than the others. It's hard to catch because it's so fast and difficult to see." She explained "This ball is worth an extra hundred and fifty points. It's the Seeker's job to catch it before the other team. When the Seeker catches the Snitch the game is over."
"You're really into this sport, aren't you?" Hunter asked
"I should be, I'm one of the three Chasers." She smirked

A few days have passed and so far things were good. The VK's have become very popular lately. With Mal, she used her magic to turn some of the girls at school hair beautiful. Evie was a big hit in designing clothes. Carlos was really smart and was getting along with Dude. Jay was getting popular with the ladies as he was the best player in Tourney. Hunter was the star student in both magic and normal classes and became popular with the ladies as well. The coach had tried recruiting him for Tourney but he wasn't interested in the sport.
Today was the big Tourney game and everyone was hyped up. This is also the day that the VK's decided to give Ben and Vanessa the love potion cookies. They had to go through a few batches just to get them right. When they got to their lockers Mal and Hunter saw that Ben and Vanessa were nearby talking to Aurdey. Well Ben was, Vanessa was reading a fourth year Charm book, trying to block out the spoiled princess voice. Jay walked by and leaned against the locker next to Mal's. He was starting to have doubts as everything was going well for them here. It wasn't as bad as they thought it would be and most of the Auradon people were actually good people.
"Are you guys feeling kind of weird about this?" Jay asked "I mean, it's not so bad here, you know."
Hunter couldn't help but agree with him and looked over at Vanessa. She was really cool, smart, kind and fun to be around. During these last few days he started having actual feelings for her.
"Are you insane?" Mal asked and snapped her fingers at Jay. "Long live evil. You're mean. You're awful. You're bad news. Snap out of it."
Jay looked over at Hunter and he gestured for jock boy to go along with it for Mal's sake.
"Thanks Mal. I needed that." Jay nodded
He walked over to the raile so that he could flirt with the girls that were on the benches.
"Do you think they actually paid for those?" Audrey whispered to Ben. "She did it to Jane's hair, too, and Fairy Godmother is not happy about it."
Vanessa couldn't help but roll her eyes at this. She's just jealous because she no longer has the "Prettiest Hair" as the spoiled princess likes to claim.
"What's the harm?" Ben shrugged
"It's getaway magic." Audrey glared "Sure, it starts with the hair. Next thing you know it's the lips and the legs and the clothes and then everybody looks good and then where will I be?"
Trying her best to not lash out of the brat Vanessa walked away. Mal quickly gave one bag of cookies to Hunter and pushed him towards her. He glared over at her for the push and sighed. He really didn't want to do this.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked, putting on a concern look.
"Yeah, it's Audrey. She is such a bitch, I swear." She said "When ever someone out beauties her she acts like they committed a crime. Believing that she has to be the fairest in the land."
"Is that why she does that to you? I heard that you won that last year." He smirked "And it's not hard to see why. Your beauty puts everyone to shame."
"Shut up." She laughed and playfully hit his arm. "You are just as bad as Jay."
"Hey unlike Jay, I don't tell this to a girl for a one night stand. I mean it." He smiled
"Uh-huh, right." She smirked
He smiled and pulled out the bag.
"Cookie, made them last night. Well Mal did, I'm not much into baking." He said
"Are they Chocolate chips?" She asked
"Yeah." He said
She took one and was about to take a bite but they were interrupted when Ben started singing Mal's name. Hunter looked over to see that the potion is working before looking back at Vanessa. It looked like she already took a bite.
"Wow that is good." She smiled "Mal has a talent in baking."
"How do you feel?" He asked
"Good." She said before laughing. "I'm so gonna get an O."
"What?" He asked
"For the anti-love potion I made." She smirked "You know for the love potion Mal placed in the cookies."
Hunter's eyes widened and tried to play it off.
"Easy, I knew all along. Pandores' shadow was in the kitchen last night and saw what you guys were doing." She said "I get it. Mal has a crush on Ben. And you...have a crush on me."
He mentally sighed in relief that she didn't think it was for evil.
"I'm flattered Hunter, but if you want to ask me out I would like to hear it the old fashion way." She said
After placing the cookie back in the bag she handed it back to him before pinching his cheeks and leaving. This stund him a bit as he watched her walk away as he noticed that she had a little swing to her hip. He couldn't help but stare till Mal saw this smacked his head.
"Hey, perv snapped out of it. Did the cookie work?" She asked
"Um...no. She knew it was a love potion. But she believes it's because you have a crush on Ben and I have a crush on her." He said
"Do you?" She asked
He said nothing but Mal could tell that something was up.

After school it was time for the big game. The Auradon Knights vs Sherwoods Falcons, their biggest rival. Everyone was in the spirit of the game, even Professor Lupin had joined in. Vanessa was able to convince him as this was the first muggle sport he has ever watched. It was interesting, yes, but it didn't compare to Quidditch in his opinion. Right now the two teams were tied, 2-2. When it was near the end the coach put in Jay and Carlos.
"The long pass goes to Jay. Jay dishes off to Prince Ben. Nice little block by Carlos. He does a little dancing jig in the opponent's face. And now Jay gets the ball back. Here comes Jay. Jay, hurdling maneuver at mid-field. Jay makes a nice pass to Prince Ben through the Kill Zone. Big block by Chad! Prince Ben moves over wide, gives it back to Jay. He's in the clear! Shot! Oh! What a save by Philip the Falcons' goalkeeper!" The announcer said "23 seconds left. You could cut the tension with a sword. The long ball is played into Jay. Jay, great jump, great leap. And a great move by Jay. Big block from Aziz. Jay dishes off to Prince Ben. And then Carlos with a big block, goes down. Jay goes through the Kill Zone, picks up Carlos. He's being hammered by dragon fire. Still going on. Jay, hurdling maneuvering at mid-field. He's in the clear. The ball goes back to Jay. He passes to Prince Ben. He scores!"
Everyone cheered.
"Prince Ben has won it! What an unselfish play by Jay! What a team! Incredible. And it's the new guys, Jay and Carlos, who set up the prince for the winner! What a victory! And an absolutely wonderful end to one of the best games ever!" The announcer cheered
He would have said more until Ben took the microphone from him. Vanessa smirked as she knew this was the work of the love potion and took out her phone to film this.
"Excuse me. Excuse me. Can I have your attention, please?" Ben said "There's something I would like to say. Give me an M."
"M!" The crowd shouted
"Give me an A."
"A!"
"Give me an L."
"L!"
"What does that spell?!" He asked
"Mal!" The crowd shouted
"Come on, I can't hear you!" He said
"Mal!" They yelled
"I love you Mal! Did I mention that?" Ben smiled and signaled Doug to start up the band. "Give me a beat!"

During the whole song and dance Ben had managed his way up to the bleachers and climbed his way towards Mal.
"I love you Mal." Ben smiled and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Did I mention that."
Audrey made her way up with Chad and grabbed the microphone from Ben.
"Chad's my boyfriend now! And I'm going to the coronation with him." She taunted "So, I don't need your pity date."
Hunter rolled his eyes at her childish act while Vanessa and her friends either glared or gaged when Audrey kissed Chad. This didn't infect Ben at all and just took the microphone back.
"Mal! Will you go to the coronation with me?" He asked
This surprised Mal and Audrey but Mal said yes, as that was the plan. Audrey scoffed before walking away, dragging Chad with her. Jay and the other players dragged Ben away for the victory afterparty. Mal and Vanessa looked at Evie who was a bit heartbroken at what Chad did.
"I feel really sorry for Audrey. I feel like if she were talented like you, and if she knew how to sew and knew beauty tips, that she wouldn't need a prince to make her feel better about herself." Mal smiled
This made Evie smile.
"I guess I am kind of talented." Evie nodded
"Are you kidding me, you're ten times better than her." Vanessa smiled
"Thanks guys." Evie smiled and hugged
"Hey, what are friends for." Vanessa said "And if you want a little payback I know just the thing."
