Alright here we go, chapter 23.
"You guys, did you watch the news last night? It was so good that we got a few seconds of screen time although I don't think anyone noticed me hanging out in the background." An invisible girl asked. Classes were back in session at U.A. and everyone was here.
"Probably not." Shoji answered.
"It's kind of difficult to stand out when all people see are just a pair of gloves." Another boy with a tail commented. The students had appeared on the news that covered the U.S.J. incident and this particular topic had actually garnered a lot of attention by the media.
"We're totally big deals; those new channels love us; we're basically celebrities." Denki told Jirou and Kirshima.
"Yeah it's totally crazy right." Kirshima said in agreement.
"Get over yourself." Jirou told them as she played with one of her earphone jacks. "The hero course that pumps out pros was attacked by villains, that what they really care about."
"Yeah who knows what would have happened to us if the teachers hadn't showed up." Sero told them.
"It wasn't just the teachers though..." Tokoyami mused. "There was another group that arrived before them." He explained. "When we me and Koda were in the wind area, I could have sworn I large crow appear and blasted away the largest villain." He explained.
"So it happened to you as well." Kirshima noted. "Me and Bakugo had to deal with a villain that looked like a fusion between a rhino and triceratops. He was big, strong and really tough but we held out." Krishima said as he recalled the fight. "However it wasn't a giant crow that saved us, but rather a giant flower looking girl." He told them. "She took care of that villain no problem."
"Oh please she wasn't that impressive." Bakugo told him.
"She did in 5 seconds what you couldn't do in five minutes." Kirshima countered. He recalled how he and Bakugo were trying to beat the villain. He held it in place while Bakugo kept blasting it, that didn't work like they hoped as the villain managed to knock Bakugo back. Kirshima had thought he was done for until the pink flowed girl appeared, she was able to charm the villain into lowering its guard before she incapacitated him with an energy blade. The villain had turned into some kind of egg surprisingly. He was going to thank her for saving them but Bakugo had recovered and tried to attack her thinking she was another villain she merely sidestepped him before she blasted him in the face with her own attack before disappearing.
"Did any of you guys see All Might fighting the big bird guy? That dude was super strong and he still destroyed him." Sato told Tokoyami.
"Yes his strength is truly a thing of wonder." The bird boy said.
"Although the giant dinosaurs were something I didn't expect." Sato added. Izuku stiffened at the mention of that. Geogreymon, Growlmon and Dark Tyrannomon had all appeared in front his classmates though thankfully the situation had made it seem like they were either villains or vigilantes. It had gotten complicated for them to go and wipe each student's memoires especially after they gave their testimonies to the cops, so Hudie instead decided to wait it out and monitor in case anything showed up.
"ATTENTION! HOME ROOM CLASS IS ABOUT TO BEGIN. EVERYONE STOP TALKING AND TAKE YOUR SEAT." Ilda announced as he stood in front of the class.
"Um we're all sitting. You're the only one standing Ilda." One of the students told him.
"Dang it." Ilda muttered as he took his seat.
"Don't sweat it." Ochaco told him.
A few minutes passed and Mr. Aizawa entered the classroom. He looked normal at first glance however when he reached the front of the class and turned to face them, they all noticed how his right arm was now in a cast. "Good Morning students." He greeted them.
"Mr. Aizawa. I'm glad you're okay." Ilda commented.
"My wellbeing is irrelevant, what's important is that you are aware that you're fight isn't over." He told them. This earned all the students attention, causing them to wonder just what he was referring to. "The U.A. sports festival is about to start." He explained.
"Isn't that kind of soon?" Shinso asked Present Mic. The blonde radio hosting hero had explained to them how the Sports Festival was about to start in the next 2 weeks. While it was nice that the festival was starting sooner, it also meant he wouldn't get more time to train for it.
"Well given how those villains crashed U.S.J., the school thinks it's a good idea to move the festival up." He explained.
"So really the only reason this happening is because the hero course got into trouble." Abigail deadpanned. "Figures it's always about them."
"Actually it's more to reassure the public that U.A. isn't affected." Another student answered. "I bet the higher ups think that hosting the festival will help keep boost morale and keep the school looking good in the public eye."
"That….is mostly true." Mic answered before he noticed the glances his students were giving him. "Okay it's totally true."
"Isn't that kind of counter intuitive?" Shinso asked. "If you move the Sports Festival up then it clearly shows that you were affected when you are actually trying to convince the public you're not." He explained.
"If any of you decide to do social sciences, you'll learn that humans a very complicated. Even if we acted like nothing happened, people will still spread rumours or make wild speculation. Its better we act now instead of letting the media make up stories. They'll especially try and make us look bad if they get the chance as it will distract the public from the fact that the villains actually managed to sneak in because the Press was distracting us." The Voice user told them. The students seemed to please with that answer and settled themselves down.
"Alright so now that we have that out of the way," The Pro said, "Sayo I believe you have something you want to share with class." The hero said as he motioned to Sayo to enter into the class. He had stopped her early on and explained that Principal Nezu had agreed to let her do community service. She was to start immediately but first thing first.
"I've would just like to say that I want to apologize for the way I acted." Sayo said quietly to her classmates. "I know I shouldn't have acted the way I did but I am truly sorry I freaked out and hurt so many of you." She said with a bow.
"Sir is this really fair." Abigail said. "She went and injured half the class and she just gets to say sorry and we're supposed to forgive her." The girl demanded.
"Actually." Mic spoke.
"I mean seriously. Half the class was sent to the nurse, surely as a hero you can't just let her go unpunished." She continued.
"Abigail."
"And then she's always slacking and sleeping in class. How did she even get in here?" Abigail asked.
"ABIGAIL." Present Mic shouted. The girl in question finally noticed he was speaking and immediately quieted herself as did everyone else. Sayo did her best not to smile even the slightest but her digimon could tell she was very joyful that the girl was told off. "If you would have let either of finish, you would have heard the punishment."
"Oh." Abigail said. "My bad."
"Yes, it was your bad." Mic whispered under his breath. "As I was saying, Sayo here is technically suspended from most of the class activities." The homeroom teacher informed them.
"Um doesn't suspension usually mean the student has to stay home?" A student asked.
"Ordinarily it does." Mic answered. "But after some careful deliberation, we decided that instead of Sayo staying home; instead she's going to do a sort of community service for the school." He explained. "Essentially she's going to be assisting the other courses and staff members in various activities, so if you see her on the compound that's why." He told them.
"What kind of activities?" Shinso asked with a little concern.
"She's going to be the damsel in distress for some of the heroics classes, help test support items for the support course, possibly aid Lunch Rush in the café and maybe even help Recovery Girl in the Nurse's office or even the student council" He explained.
"So essentially….she's like a training dummy for the hero students, a guinea pig for the support students and virtually a lunch lady." Abigail said.
"Um is this even legal?" One student who Sayo didn't beat up asked.
"Believe it or not it is." Present Mic answered. Suddenly the school bell rang signalling the end of this class session. "Well that's all for now." He told them. "Now get ready for your next class." He said as he walked out with Sayo in tow.
"You know for someone who has a month of chores. You don't seem all that sad. Dare I say you actually seem for more excited out here than you were back in class for the pass few days." Present Mic told Sayo once they walked outside. After they had left the class Mic had kept an eye on the girl as they walked to Nezu's office. She wore a big grin on her face the whole time.
"If I'm being honest, I prefer to be up and about doing stuff than being stuck in classroom with people who clearly don't like me." Sayo told him.
"You do realize you're still missing out on class right?" Mic asked.
"And?" Sayo retorted.
"Doesn't that bother you in the slightest?" He asked her. Most students he knew would probably panic if there education was put in a spot like that but Sayo didn't seem bothered at all.
"Nope." Sayo answered. "I can still get the notes from other students or by following the curriculum and I am quite could in few classes like Maths and Sciences so I won't fall that far behind." She explained. "Plus I doing this is more fun and I am not a stranger to working the odd jobs."
"That's right." Mic noted. "Hudie's cyber sleuth service. Yagi had mentioned you had given him your business card." He noted.
"Yeah…I am still waiting for him to call so I can see about getting him some clothes that actually fit." She told Present Mic earning a chuckled from the older man.
"Besides shopping what else does Hudie's cyber sleuths cover?" He asked.
"Well when we're not busy working any jobs, we help out in the café, but most of the time our jobs can range from detective work where we need to track down lost items, pets and even people, although the latter is more like old friends or people you just saw once and need to contact again. We also do more technical support stuff like updating and repairing electronics, we even help de bug software for some small developers and I once assisted some interent stars with their filming and video editing….." Sayo explained. "and then you have the really odd stuff."
"Odd how?"
"Comic book contests, food reviews, tea blend runs, video game testing, flower deliveries." Sayo listed off. "We were even called a few times to proof read amateur manga and light novels." She told him.
"Sounds really fun to be honest." Present Mic noted. It also made him curious. A lot of what was said required special training in certain feels, mostly technology; he wondered if she was really capable or if this was just big talk.
"It is, but that was just the tip of the iceberg." Sayo said as they nearly reached Nezu's office.
"If you are as good as you say you are then perhaps you can help me with something for my radio show tomorrow." Present Mic said. "I considered asking Power Loader but he's been a bit busy with the new students. I heard one of his year one is a real piece of work and now we are improving security as well so I don't want to disturb him." The Voice hero said.
"Is this my first job for the school?" Sayo asked.
"No, this is more of a personal project. I'll call Hudie and send a request so you can take it as a job, and I'll even pay you little listener, so don't worry." He told her.
"Sounds awesome, here is the address." Sayo said as she showed him link to Hudie's site.
"Want in the world?" Marcus asked as he watched the BBS in Hudie. He saw it had updated with a case from Present Mic but Sayo had immediately responded within seconds and accepted it. He'd ask her about that later but for now he would check out some of the other jobs. He found one he was interested in and was just about to leave when he heard a commotion coming from outside. Scowling he walked out demanding to know what was going on only to be met by a few supposedly imposing figures. The café hadn't been busy that morning so it was empty, meaning there wasn't going to be any witnesses. Looking around he saw Wiz and Kitty were being kept in a yellow dome of sorts.
"Are you the owner here?" A large man asked.
"Who's asking?" Marcus shot back.
"The Shie Hassaikai, we've come to collect our dues." Another answered. This one was wearing a white rain coat with the hood up. Glancing around Marcus noted how all the intruders were wearing plague doctor masks to hide their faces. Another more prominent one was the little black doll looking thing that was accompanying the men. This wasn't the Yakuza's style.
"You must be mistaken; your Boss and I have a long standing agreement that the Yakuza was never to set foot within my café. As for whatever dues you're speaking off, if you don't leave their will be consequences." Marcus warned them.
"Mr. Damon, this property was purchased using funds that our records clearly showed came from the Shie Hassaikai, as such it our property and you are to return it immediately." The man in the white coat said.
"No." Marcus told them. "Now get your filthy yakuza tails out of-" He was interrupted when an arm extended from the black doll and punched him the face. Reacting almost instinctively Marcus grabbed the arm and slammed the doll into the floor. "One last chance…get out now or you'll regret it." He told them, but it was clear his words had fallen on deaf ears. "All right then. I guess it's fighting time then." He told them as he pulled back a fist.
The largest man tried to punch him but Marcus met fist with his own. The impact of the two caused a mini shockwave that affected everyone except the two brawlers. The big guy then started to rotate his shoulders in an unnatural way as he attempted to strike Marcus again but the old man was ready. He got the man's two fists and held them in place before he hit the big guy with a head butt breaking the mask and causing him to stagger a bit. Marcus then used that opening to punch him in the chest, sending a wave of his orange digisoul through the man before the force of the punch sent him flying backwards. A gun shot rang and Marcus instinctively dodged avoiding the bullet before he kicked up the table at the source, the white coated man. The table then broke as it hit another yellow barrier before said barrier dropped and a white blade of hair shot out from the white coat. In one sweeping motion Marcus avoided the hair and grabbed it with hand before he yanked it pulling the man forward and clocking him in the face. He looked around seeing one last man standing; who he assumed was holding was making barriers.
Ready to fight Marcus tried to approach him only to find himself trapped in a yellow dome now. "You should not that it is futile." The man taunted Marcus as he saw he comrades recover. Marcus wasn't having any of it. Concentrating on his digi-soul, Marcus winded up and punched the barrier, shattering it in a single shot, shocking the man. Marcus then lunged for him shattering any other barrier the man might have made to protect himself before he reach up and smashed the man's head with his fist, disabling the barrier holding Wiz and Kitty.
"I am seriously taking these damages out of both your pay checks." Marcus told them.
"That's fair." Wiz sighed as he readied himself. Kitty followed as well stretching her body as she brandished her claws. The big guy, the white coat and the black doll had already recovered and were facing them. White coat sought to take out his gun but Wiz launched a ball of electricity from his hand, zapping the gun away. "I'll take white coat." Wiz said.
"I want the black doll." Kitty added.
"Fine." Marcus told them as he eyed the big guy.
The fight was as one sided as anyone could have expected. While the big was powerful, he was nothing compared to monsters Marcus faced, surprisingly thought the large man was actually the least annoying one here. He seemed to revel in the idea off facing a strong opponent and was very excited when he got the challenge from Marcus although the old man wished the feeling could be mutual. The man, Rappa had managed to land a few solid hits but they were like baby slaps to Marcus, all it took was another well aimed strike and Rappa was knocked out.
Kitty actually seemed to have had more fun with her opponent. "Here mousy mousy." She teased as she chased the doll. The black doll had tried throwing several attacks for her but her cat like reflexes were fast enough for her to avoid him and scratch his arms every time he sent them out. Eventually she got tired and ripped the doll to shreds. Much to her surprise there was actually a large man who had apparently possessed the doll. The man had attempted to try and possess other objects in the building but Kitty was easily able to subdue him and take him out with a lightning jab.
Wiz had the toughest fight…and even that was stretching it. His opponent had managed to strike him with his hair which hurt like hell. However the pain wasn't the only thing he felt from the hair, his entire body seemed to slow down tremendously after the attack connected. "Is this his quirk?" Wiz thought as he noticed how the man took out a knife and attempted to attack him while he was slowed down. His allies were busy seeing about themselves so Wiz was on his own. Wiz focused and transformed himself into his 'more powerful' form. Sporting a purple cape and purple wizard hat, Wiz used his enhanced magic to dispel the effects of the quirk. "What you thought I only had one ability?" He told his surprised opponent. The man attempted to shoot him with his gun but Wiz made a barrier of his own deflecting the bullets before he sent another blast of electricity knocking down the man.
"Wiz." Marcus said as he picked up Rappa and the barrier guy. "Take out the trash." He told him as he tossed the two Yakuza members on top of the white coat man. Kitty had also tossed her victim, on to the pile of bodies before Wiz started reciting a spell. A magic circle formed beneath the Yakuza members before the disappeared in flash of light. In the city dump a portal appeared out of thin air before the four Yakuza members fell through, landing on top a pile of garbage.
So the Yakuza is here and Wiz and Kitty get to play around. The anime never specified where or when Overhaul started putting his plan into motion so I figured I would take it here. I did some research on the Yakuza and noted how some of them were actually in control of various businesses, being organized crime as such. Some of the Yakuza are also noble criminals if that makes sense. I figured seeing as Hudie is a special kind of business they would try to take it after the boss 'retires', especially since they want to try and re-establish control. They fail off course but it's the effort that counts. Overhaul himself doesn't come by because he's now starting to work on his plan but after what happened...hehe...
And Sayo officially starts working for U.A. if you can call it that so yeah...fun.
Question time:
Okay this one is kind of a special one because I will need feedback to know where I am standing in this. If Izuku and Sayo were to fight any of the hero course students which fights do you think they would win easily and which fights do you think they'll struggle or lose?
I have many idea for the Sports festival but I want to know where people think the characters stand and why so I can avoid any...unjustify wins or losses. I need to know it now so I'll know just how much I need to setup and develop the characters beforehand so it feels natural to the story.
On my discord server I asked how many people they thought Sayo could win against in Solo fights, the answers they gave was that in the Sports Festival she can easily beat most of the students except for a select few due to their quirks being too powerful, other than that her melee skills, experience and strength would have trumped most of them.
