Mike ran a hand over his tired eyes as he slowly sat back down in his office chair, only to see Rudy Olsen's silhouette walking through the homicide bullpen.
So much for a difficult day getting even more difficult.
Taking a precious quick sip of coffee, Mike put on his reading glasses to briefly scan his missed calls, before leaning back and waiting for the Captain to enter.
A few seconds later, he heard a slight knock on his doorframe.
"Tell me you've got something for me to throw at these vultures, Mike.", Olsen begged and walked into the office, before closing the door behind him, "Five homicides now. The press is going nuts."
"Yeah, I can believe that."
Briefly pointing at the map of San Francisco still residing in his office, the Lieutenant sighed.
"I am going to bring Lenny back in here. Our killer just changed his MO significantly. We have enough evidence to believe that it is the same guy who murdered our four previous victims, but something changed."
Rudy slid into his guest chair, running a hand across his half-bald head of hair before speaking up again.
"How'd it go with Keller? He's right there. And the last victim was working at Berkeley, wasn't she? Last I heard you were worried he might be the next target."
"He's going to do some digging for us but it doesn't look too promising.", Mike lied, feeling utterly sick to his stomach doing so under the circumstances, "Dan and I are doing some research right now and will hit up the streets in a bit. I want to ask around more, see if somebody saw our victim walk off with a stranger last night."
Rudy nodded in acknowledgement, before getting back up from the chair.
"Well, I read Lenny's profile. I will mention parts of that at the press conference to keep them happy. But honestly, that vague kind of information could fit any young man. It fits Dan to some extent. And Tanner. Heck, according to Lenny, it could be Keller."
For once, Mike didn't know what to say.
