Chapter 16

Four weeks later Sean, Elise and the kids were moving in to their new house. Everything had gone to plan, all the furniture was in it's right room, the only thing left was to unpack the boxes. Specs and Tucker were on board to help out, taking plates out of the boxes to put in the kitchen cupboards. Elsie heard a smash, Sean looking at her, his face making a funny expression.

"BOYS, WHAT'S GOING ON?" Elise yelled through.

"WE'RE FINE." Tucker yelled back.

"I might go and make sure they aren't breaking any more of my dinner plates."

"I'll finish up in here."

"Thanks honey? Elise smiled.

She gave Sean a quick kiss before making her way though to the kitchen to see a broken cup being swept up by Specs.

"Oh boys…"

"Don't worry Elise, we got this."

"Maybe you should go and help Sean instead, less breakables in the living room."

Tucker shrugged his shoulders and went through to join Sean, Specs coming over to Elise as she rubbed her back.

"Hey, you doing okay?"

Elise could see the concern in the young man's face, smiling at him.

"I'm fine honey, just a little tired."

"Well look, go and lie down. We can finish up."

"I'd like to have a kitchen to come back too." She joked.

"Tucker's the one who did it, not me. Seriously though, look you only have a few weeks left…the doctor said you could go at any time and…"

"Go at any time…you make it sound like I'm going to drop dead."

"Elise I'm serious, this is the last thing you should be doing right now."

"Let me just finish my kitchen and then I will relax…I promise."

"You mean it?"

"My word."

"Fine, but I'm watching you."

Specs gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before going through to join Tucker and Sean.

Quinn took hours to put the finishing touches to her bedroom, the fairy lights going above her dressing table, smiling as she looked around to see her successful day. She sat down at the dressing table, taking the photo of her mother in her hands and smiling at it.

"I miss you mom."

"She misses you too honey."

Quinn looked behind her to see Elise in the doorway.

"Hey."

"I thought I'd come and check on you, see how you were getting on?"

"I'm all done, didn't take as long as I thought it would."

"You've done a wonderful job Quinn."

"You think so?"

"Definitely."

Elise took a seat on the edge of Quinn's bed, as the young woman turned around in her seat to face her.

"Do you still have a kitchen?"

"Oh I chucked the boys out of there hours ago."

Quinn began laughing along with Elise, noticing the way Elise stopped suddenly, an odd look on her face as her hand went to the baby. Quinn got up and came over to the older woman.

"Hey, you okay?"

"I'm fine honey, just overdid things today."

"You sure?"

"Mm-mm."

Quinn wasn't convinced by Elise's answer, seeing the way the woman flinched, her eyes closing tightly.

"You're in pain?"

"No really I…ahhhh."

Elise's head lowered as she took in a deep breath.

"Oh shit…DAD." She yelled out.

Sean heard Quinn yell out, Specs and Tucker looking towards the stairs.

"Don't tell me she's gone and broken something too." Tucker joked.

"I better go and check on her, won't be long guys."

Sean made his way up the stairs, coming in to Quinn's room.

"Okay kiddo what have to bro…"

Sean stopped mid sentence when he saw Quinn hovering over Elise, hearing the pained noises coming from the older woman. He rushed over to her, coming to kneel down in front of her, seeing the way she held on tightly to Quinn's hand.

"Elise…sweetheart what's going on."

"I'm sorry Sean, I was sure we'd get settled in before she decided to arrive, guess I was wrong."

"The baby?"

"Mm-mm."

Another contraction overtook her as she gripped Quinn's hand a little tighter, leaning in to the younger woman.

"Dad, we need to get her to hospital…like now."

"Okay, come on sweetheart."

Sean and Quinn helped her to her feet, Elise just making it to Quinn's door before her water broke."

"Oh no." She cried.

"Hey, it's okay…it'll clean, don't worry about it." Quinn smiled.

"Lets get you to the car." Sean smiled, giving her a quick kiss for reassurance.

Specs heard them coming down the stairs, looking up.

"So what did she bre…shit, Elise."

Specs was by her side in seconds, Tucker lingering.

"What happened?" He asked.

"The baby didn't want to wait." She tried to joke.

"We better get her to the car, come on."

"Specs wait a minute…look boys, don't take this the wrong way but, right now, I just need Sean okay. Someone needs to stay here and finish up, and Alex is up stairs. I need you boys and Quinn here, getting the house ready for her to come home too, can you do that for me?"

Elise tried to remain calm but her contractions were getting worse by the minute.

"Of course we can do that, right guys." Quinn smiled.

"Yeah, sure we can." Specs replied.

Elise could see Specs was worried about her, he's always been very protective of her. She placed her hand on the side of his face, smiling back at him.

"Steven, I'm going to be just fine…trust me."

He kissed her cheek one last time before Sean and Quinn got her out to the car, ready to begin the next chapter.
