Lexi awoke to the smell of food wafting into her nostrils. She hadn't even opened her eyes and had already realized the bed she was laying in was much softer than she was used to. Happy had a thing for a harder bed and she had become accustomed to the same. Slowly opening her eyes she realized she was in her bedroom at her parents house. Feeling beside her and not finding Happy, she began to worry. What the fuck? She thought to herself.
Standing from the bed she stretched out feeling the knots and kinks pop in her back. Upon further inspection she realized she was still dressed in her clothes from the night before. As she made her way to the kitchen she tried reasoning with herself to explain the current situation. Happy must not have been able to wake me up last night so we crashed here. It'd be safer than me trying to be on his bike with how tired I was. He is probably getting coffee.
"Good morning sweetheart!" Her mother greeted cheerfully as she entered the kitchen. Through the entry way she could see her father at the table reading the paper and drinking a cup of coffee but no sign of her boyfriend. "Hope you're hungry. Breakfast is about ready. I've got french toast, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit cut. Just have to finish these eggs."
"Thanks Ma, I'm starving. Where's Hap?" She asked, curious as to why she hadn't seen him yet.
"Umm, I don't know hun. The guys got called out a quick run last so he let you stay here to keep sleeping. I figured he would have come back but he didn't."
"Weird. I'll call him." Leaving the room she found her phone in her pocket and dialed his number. The phone only rang once before going straight to voicemail. "Hey. I'm up and just wondering where you are. Call me back."
"He answer?" Gemma asked as Lexi got back to the kitchen.
"No but maybe he's just asleep. It's pretty early still."
"Well I've got breakfast ready now so let's eat then go from there. Did you have plans today?"
"A doctor's appointment at 10 and going to see his ma up in Bakersfield," she told her mother while helping carry plates to the table. And leave this hell.
"Well if he doesn't show, I could take you," Gemma offered.
"Okay thanks Ma. Morning Daddy, do you know where Happy ended up last night?"
"No idea. I haven't heard from Tig either though," Clay told her. "They probably ended up back at the club house and got too drunk to ride."
"Maybe," Lexi told him taking a seat to start eating breakfast. She knew Happy wouldn't get crazy drunk and leave her at her parents. Definitely not after their heart to heart yesterday. Plus Happy hadn't been getting crazy with his drinking for months. He tried to stick to beer. Limiting himself to only a couple shots if any. He always said he had to be in control incase something happened with the baby. She made a mental note to call Kozik after breakfast to check on what he knew. Things were more than fishy.
"What's on the agenda today, princess?" Clay asked her. His plan had been easily set in motion last night with her being left at his house and Happy leaving with the guys. Now it would just take some last little distractions to push through for the rest of the plan.
"Not much. Have a baby appointment. I'm meeting with the pediatric heart specialist here because my doctor back home doesn't want me going too long between visits and we didn't know when I'd get to head back to Tacoma."
"Gem, you taking her?"
"I offered if she doesn't hear from Happy. She doesn't exactly have a car here."
"Okay. If he doesn't show, while you're there, I'll track down Hap. I'll get you a car too so you aren't depending on everyone for transportation. Sound good?"
"Thanks daddy but I have a car. It's just in Tacoma."
"Well then a rental so you have something for now okay?"
"Okay," Lexi agreed not wanting to argue with them. It wasn't like she'd be leaving for Tacoma today like promised if she couldn't find Happy.
They continued their breakfast while Lexi sat mostly in silence. Something didn't feel right. Sure her parents were being accommodating about Happy now. But what caused the energy shift from Clay choking him out to this. Lexi would definitely get to the bottom of it. Finishing her plate, she decided to start her investigation as to where Happy had disappeared to.
"Thanks for breakfast. Do you need help cleaning up? I was going to shower," She asked her mother. She needed to call Kozik and didn't want prying ears.
"Go ahead sweetie. Your clothes are all still in your room too. I'm sure something must fit," Gemma told her starting to clear the table.
"Sounds good." Lexi stood from the table kissing Gemma on the cheek then doing the same with her father. "Thanks for letting me crash last night."
"This is your home princess. No matter what happens, you always have here to come back to and feel safe," Clay said.
Making her way down the hall, she glanced over her shoulder to be sure she wasn't being followed. Lexi made her way back to her bedroom to use her bathroom. Once locked in the small room with the shower running to muffle sound, she dialed Kozik's burner.
"Yo?"
"Koz, it's Lex, you talked to or seen Hap this morning?"
"Naw. I headed back to SAMTAC pretty early though. Didn't see his bike this morning either so figured y'all crashed at the castle. You were pretty exhausted yesterday."
"So I keep hearing. What about Tig?"
"Come to think of it no. I didn't see him either. What's going on Lex?"
"He's not here. Ma said some of the guys got called out for something last night. Dad said him and Tig must've gotten drunk at the club house. His phone is going straight to voicemail. I'm scared Koz."
"Just breathe. We don't need you stressing out the little one. I'm about halfway home but I'll check with Lee and figure out if he knows what's going on. You need to stay calm. He always pops up."
"I'm trying but we both know he wouldn't leave me like this. Plus he NEVER let's his phone die or shuts it off since he found out about the baby. Not even if he's in church. He just drops it in the box."
"We will get to the bottom of this. Go to the appointment, I'll see what I can dig up. If I can't locate him, I'll come get you and bring you home."
"Okay...Thanks Koz..." Hanging up the phone, Lexi didn't feel much better. She knew with Happy out of the picture, Kozik was all she had in SAMTAC. She trusted him and knew Happy did too but something just wasn't sitting right. Plus she wasn't affiliated with club life there. That would be a bigger push for her parents to try keeping her here in Charming.
Lexi jumped in the shower, washing her hair and body quickly so as not to alert her parents. After digging through her closet and dresser she was able to find pants that somewhat fit but was out of luck on shirts. With the growth of her baby bump and boobs, nothing would fit without making her look like trailer trash. Deciding to raid Jax's closet for a shirt, she put on her robe and crossed the hall.
She quickly found one of his old reaper crew shirts that fit without being too baggy and made her way back to the hall. As she came out of her brother's room she happened to see Tig and her father whispering at the end of the hall. Tossing her robe onto her bed she made her way towards the men. Now even more suspicious of Happy's disappearance.
"Hey Tiggy," she greeted with a quick peck to his cheek. "Hap with ya?"
"Uhhh no princess," He told her, eyes flashing between her n Clay quickly. If Lexi didn't know any better she'd say she saw a subtle shake of her father's head before Tig continued, "Haven't seen him since last night."
"Hmm, okay. I'm gunna see if Ma is ready for my appointment then I guess. Know where she is?"
"Think she just got done changing laundry and is talking to your brother in the kitchen," Clay told her, giving her a kiss on the head as she walked by before he and Tig headed into his office.
Lexi slowed when she got near the kitchen trying to see how private their conversation was.
"I get you don't want her to leave Ma, but she has to make her choice."
"Jackson, it's for the best. How long until he dumps her like he does the Crow Eaters? There's a baby involved now. She's going to need us."
"Ma, I know that. But he seems different with Lex. We talked for awhile last night. I think he really does care for her," Jax tried explaining to his mother. "I trust him."
"Yeah? Well I don't. If he fucking cared, we would know where he's run off to. Your sister is calm now but it won't last long and the baby doesn't need this."
"We will find him. He's not one to just disappear."
Deciding she couldn't listen to them bicker anymore, she walked loudly into the kitchen. "Hey guys. Ma ya ready to head out? I'll need to fill out paperwork."
"Yes sweetie. Let me grab my purse and I'll meet you at the car," Gemma told her leaving the room.
"Okay," she replied. Waiting until her mother left the room she looked at her brother. "What's going on? What happened to Happy last night Jax?"
"I honestly don't know Lex. He rode with us to get Tig then took a random side road when the cops caught up. We thought he'd meet us back at the clubhouse or here but we haven't seen him. I've called all the PDs and hospitals already. But don't lose hope. I'm still looking. I swear to you, I'll find him."
"Okay," Lexi said with a nod of her head and made her way to the door. "Be safe Jax."
"We'll find him Lex."
Lexi didn't say anything just made her way out the door and around the passenger side of Gemma's Cadillac. When she realized Gemma still wasn't outside she tried calling Happy again getting voicemail same as before.
"Hey babe. I'm really starting to worry. Please call me back. I love you."
