CH. 16
A/N: Did I or did I not promise you all that you would get another chapter today. We are back to Wednesday's folks. As always, I do not/have not/probably, nor will I ever own the rights to The Breakfast Club or any of its characters and themes. They all belong to John Hughes. Now, onto Ch. 16. Fair warning, long chapter and there is a trigger warning of talks of suicide now in effect.
"This all sounds like me with my grades. When I step outside myself and look at myself you know? I see me and I don't like who I see." Brian sighs. "Why?" Claire asks. "I'm stupid cause I'm failing shop, we had an assignment to make a ceramic elephant. It was supposed to be a lamp that lit up when you pulled the trunk. The light did not go, and I got an F. I've never gotten an F in my life. I thought it'd be an easy way to maintain my grade point average." Brian explained. "Why'd you think it would be easy?" John asks. "You ever seen those dopes who take shop?" Brian jokes.
"I take shop. You must be a fucking idiot." John replies gruffly. "I'm an idiot because I don't know how to make a lamp?" Brian wonders. "No, you're a genius cause you don't know how to make a lamp." John snarled. "Can you do trigonometry?" Brian grills. "I do not care about trigonometry." John adds. "Without trig there's no engineering." Brian points out. "Without lamps there would be no light." John shoots back. "I can write, eat, brush my teeth, and play Heart and Soul on the piano with my feet." Alli chimes in. "I can make spaghetti." Brian adds.
"I can tape your buns together." Andrew jokes. They turn to look at Tatiana. "What? I have an Emmy award and I can do a front walk over. You guys want to see it?" Tatiana explains as everybody is nodding. Tatiana stands up and removes her shoes, jewelry, and cropped jacket. "Come on already!" John exclaims as Tatian comically and exaggeratedly starts stretching. She raises her arms up by her ears, lunges forward, quickly raises one of her legs and then the other, Tatiana begins to transition into a handstand, she holds her legs straight, the splits effortlessly as they travel over he head. Tatiana lands on her feet and poses as if she is Mary Lou Retton.
She is met with claps and surprised faces. "Where did you learn that?" Alli asks. "Gymnastics classes daddy forced me to take for me not to get chubby. His word not mine." Tatiana explains. "That's so cool." Claire compliments. "What can you do, Claire?" John asks. "It's embarrassing." Claire shakes her head. "Come on, Claire. Please?" Brian begs. Claire sighs and puts a tube of lipstick between her cleavage and applies it to her lips. "That's not embarrassing at all. Brian probably popped a woody watching you." Tatiana teases. "Hush, Tati." Brian taps her. John pulls Tatiana close to him. "Don't touch." He grumbles.
"Are we going to be like our parents?" Andrew asks to cut the tension. "Not me." Claire shook her head. "I won't be anything like my daddy." Tatiana swears. "It's unavoidable. It just happens" Alli sighs sadly. "What happens?" Claire asks. "When you get older your heart dies." Alli explains. "Who cares?" John asks. "I care." Alli admits on the verge of tears. Tatiana reaches over and grabs her hand. "I care too." She nods. "What's going to happen when were all together again? I consider you guys my friends. I'm not wrong, am I?" Brian asks. "No, Brian. You're not wrong." Tatiana promised. "Tatiana don't lie to him." Claire reprimands.
"I'm not lying. That is where were different Cuh-Laire. That is what separates me from all of you." Tatiana shrugs. "What do you mean, Easton?" Andrew asks. "I don't have anybody around here to tell me what I can and cannot do. I am president of the drama club. My word is gospel. If I tell them that you are all fine, then that is how it is. Unlike you guys. People expect you all to act how they want you to. Also, I am a celebrity. I know what real popularity, power, and money feel and look like. Claire and Andy, yours is fleeting. Your popularity is contained in this school.
Once you leave, get replaced, or your knee goes out. You lose that unless you climb the corporate ladder. You have no real power, clout, or say. Not to mention, Claire, Shelly Newsome is the most popular girl in school. You are just her second in command. Nothing happens without her say so. That's how I'm different." Tatiana explains. "You're a bitch." Claire shouts. "And you like to play the powerless victim. You could easily leave your friends or tell them you'll do as you please. Let's face it though, you'll never do it because you don't know how to stand up on your own two feet. So, instead of being alone on a ledge and happy. You would rather be controlled and unhappy." Tatiana snaps.
"You act like its so easy and its not. You do not know what it is like because you have never had to deal with social hierarchy. You have been the status quo. Do not tell me about sticking up for myself when you've been the exact same way." Claire yells. "As a child. Guess what Claire? I grew up. You should too. You're going to let something really good pass you by if you don't." Tatiana suggests. "And what does that supposed to mean?" Claire asks. "You should know. He's sitting right there." Tatiana clarifies pointing at Brian. The room goes quiet as Claire begins to tear up.
A/N: Gosh that was intense. Anyway, thank you so much for reading and I will see you guys next Wednesday! Bye!
