So next chapter is here, thank you for all your reviews and PM's I love them all, I am trying to pull things together so that we get completely back to the tone between Lorelai and Emily, but there are still going to be sweet moments. I hope you will enjoy this

oooooOOOOOooooo.

June was wonderfully warm as it started, Lorelai was already counting the days until summer break came and that also meant Europe for a whole month. A month away from everything, a month away from the town, a month away from the whispering, a month away from her parents friend who kept recommending fat camps, but it also meant a whole month with her parents.

"Mom I'm home!" she yelled out as she came through the door but got no reply. "Mom!" she called out again, then the maid appeared on the stairs.

"Your mother is in your room at the moment miss." the tight clipped British accented woman said and moved back upstairs. Lorelai was tired, her back was hurting and her stomach was itching like crazy, and now she would have to deal with having her mother in her room too. She walked upstairs slowly, with heavy steps. As she approached her room she saw multiple boxes scattered around the hallway, she could hear her mother, she took a deep breath and walked into the room.

"Mom! Mom what's going on here?" she questioned

"I finished the nursery, so now I decided to do your room. Who knows if I will have the energy or will to do it once we get home from Europe. I moved things around and took out all of the childish nonsense you had in here, got it boxed up and it's down in the basement, I set up the crib over there, do not make the bed for the baby yourself until after you've given birth or have someone else do it, superstitions. I got you a tv, both so it doesn't always have to be your annoying music all the time, but again once we get home from Europe I'm not sure I can get things in order before your sister makes an appearance, cleared out two draws over there for your baby's clothes, and first I wanted to redo the entire room, with new colors and so on, but decided against it again, because this is a good color scheme for a baby - oh that's right I didn't open it but you've got a letter from the doctor, I guess it's what your baby is - blue or pink." Emily rattle it all of in a matter of minuts, she was sitting on the big plush chair that was suddenly in the room, her pregnancy was very evident, not that she was troubled by it or big in that sense, but you were not in doubt anymore if Emily Gilmore had simply put on some weight or if she was carrying a child. She still move slowly when getting up and down stairs and chairs but otherwise nothing hindered her, and Lorelai's room was the clear testament to that fact.

"Mom why did you do this?" Lorelai was annoyed

"I just told you." Emily said as she stood beside her daughter, a hand resting on her stomach.

"But what about what I wanted in here, I wanted that bed I showed you last week for the baby, I even saved money for it."

"But that bed was impractical, and wouldn't look good in here, so I bought this instead." she gestured around the room.

"But seriously mom, the bed it could use much longer than that crib." Lorelai sneered.

"Don't be silly Lorelai. Now come look at the nursery or do you want to go open that letter?" Emily moved out the door and let the guys in the room assemble the last things unsupervised.

"What letter?" Lorelai asked

"From the doctor - you know the ultrasound didn't show anything about the gender of that one in there." Emily said, Lorelai looked confused at first but then it suddenly dawned on her, and she rushed down the stairs, ignoring the mothers call.

As she reached the round table in the foyer, she quickly located her letter and ripped it open, she quickly scanned the letter and started smiling, just as the front door opened to reveal her father, her mother also appeared, having moved down the stairs at a slower pace than Lorelai.

"Lorelai, Emily - how was your day?" Richard smiled at them and kissed Emily's cheek as she passed him.

"Wonderfully productive." Emily replied

"Long." Was Lorelai's only word, she kept reading the same line over and over again in the letter. Emily came to a stop right in front of her and looked at her expectantly

"Well, what does it say?" she asked

"What does what say?" Richard got interested

Lorelai looked up at them both, smiling "It's a girl! That is so cool." Lorelai beamed.

"A granddaughter." Richard said out loud, smiling

"So you emare/em going to be totally surrounded by girls, dad!" Lorelai giggled, before she looked at her mothers face "Mom, what's wrong?"

"Nothing Lorelai, it's good, I'm glad it's a girl. It also fits better with your room. Excuse me." Emily left as quick as her body would allow her to.

"What's going on, what happened?" Lorelai looked at her father completely lost

"I don't know Lorelai, I will go talk with her. I'm happy it's a girl, just to think about that I would have to share my girls attention with a boy around, not good." Richard hugged Lorelai to him, a little stiffly and awkward but still a hug.

"But dad, was mom sad or angry?" she looked towards the empty stairs.

"I don't know, but I will find out alright. Now go call Christopher and tell him the news."

"Why?"

"Because it's his child too, that's why." Richard said firmly.

"He doesn't care if it's a boy or girl, he said so, I can tell him in school tomorrow." Lorelai sighed

"Alright if that's the way you want to do it, I better go to your mother, why don't you go get some homework done." Richard began moving towards the stairs.

"I can't, my room is being turned around by moms crew." Lorelai threw her arms up in the air and dropped them, the annoyance was back.

"Use my study then, Lorelai." He looked at her as she rolled her eyes "Lorelai your mother just wants what's best for you, you have to understand that."

"Then she should have let me have the furniture I wanted for the baby, not the ones she thought most practical and more fitted to the room." Lorelai picked up her schoolbooks she had dropped by the door when she came home, and stomped towards the study, she turned in the door and looked at her father "Tell mom my stomach is itching like crazy!"

Richard looked confused, but shook his head and moved upstairs to find Emily, as he passes Lorelai's room, he peeks in and sees the beautiful solution his wife had chosen for Lorelai's baby. The men in the room looked up shortly from their work and then continued when Richard made a hand gesture to let them know they could just continue. He walked towards the bedroom, but changed his mind and went for the nursery. He pushed the door open slowly and was in complete astonishment with what he saw. The earlier dusty looking room that hadn't been used since Lorelai was three, and was more of a storage room than anything else, was now light, airy and bright. The walls was repainted with a lovely warm, but still light, subtle, purple color, the furniture was beautiful and complemented the crib Emily had pulled out of the basement, the same one they had used for Lorelai, if you hadn't seen the room twenty four hours ago, you would have thought that they had lived in this room for months like this, it was finished and amazing, Richard kept looking around spotting things he hadn't seen in a long time, or ever before. When his eyes fell on his wife who was sitting it a large comfortable chair by the crib, his mood changed, she was crying.

"Emily." he said quietly awaiting a reaction from her "Darling, why the tears?" he hurried over and kneeled besides her, he reached up and whipped the tears from her cheek. "Emily please, say something." his voice was gentle.

"She is having a girl." Emilys voice was broken from the sobs.

"Yes she is, it is wonderful, when looking at our teenagers pregnancy in the most positive light." Richard tried as he smiled to himself.

"I can't wait to hear what your mother has to say about that, but I guess it will be my fault that my daughter didn't have a son, someone to carry on the Gilmore name. I'm just glad that they are still so old fashion so they aren't asking about the gender of our child whenever they call." Emily continued sobbing.

"Is that why you left, you're worried about how John, Trix and Victoria will react to Lorelai having a girl, they are not even here?" He questioned, looking at her a little confused.

Emily grabbed a paper towel from the box next to her and dabbed her cheeks again "I will go and tell her I'm sorry, when I've collected myself." she avoided looking at him.

"Emily?" the tone he used, told her that she wouldn't be able to get out of this one without explaining. Richard looked around the space they were in, his knees were killing him due to the way he was sitting, but he couldn't find anything suitable to sit on, so he got to his feet and grabbed Emilys hands, he pulled her to a stand slowly, minding her issues - she looked at him puzzled but followed his lead, he stepped in and sat down in the chair she was just pulled out of, and then gestured for her to sit in his lap, she hesitated shortly, but after a little while she complied and sat down. He helped her sit, and rubbed her back as she sat, the other hand he placed on top of their baby. She sniffled and dabbed the paper at her nose. He used his hand to pull her even more into his embrace. "Emily please tell me what has you so upset?"

"It's just a silly thing Richard " she tried

"Nothing that has my wife in tears is silly, what happened?" he comforted

Emily looked up at the ceiling shortly and sighed "It's just…you sounded so happy." the sobs pressed forward again.

"Well I am happy that it's a girl, I'm not happy that she is having a baby but she is so…. the fact that it is a girl is simply a bonus. I'm really trying to find the positive in this situation." he said and noticed that Emily looked down, saddened, at her hands "Emily we have to find the small positive glimpse in this, don't you think?"

Emily was quiet and the tears started flowing down her cheeks again, Richard got worried, and obviously the baby was also feeling the distress, she was kicking a lot right under his hand, Richard looked down then back up to his wife's face but she didn't even seem to notice the kicks. He moved his hand from her stomach to her chin and lifted it up so their eyes meet. "You were more happy with Lorelai's announcement, than with our own." Emily whispered as sobs again began.

"I was not."

"Yes, you said granddaughter, loud and proud, when I told you we were having a girl you asked me if I'd rather had it been a boy." She sniffed

"Is that what has you so upset?"

"Of course it is. We didn't plan this at all, like we did with Lorelai, though she kept us waiting longer than we wanted, but I thought you were looking forward to this baby, but then today with your reaction towards Lorelai having a girl, I'm just not so certain anymore." she swallowed the sob that was sitting in her throat.

"Emily, I can't wait to meet this miracle!" he rubbed a hand over their baby again.

"But the smile you had on your face when you realized you were having a granddaughter, is the smile I had expected you to have when you found out if you were having a daughter or a son, I didn't realize until now that I was disappointed by your reaction to having another girl." she made a gesture to get up from his lap, but he held her in place. "Please let go of me!" she inquired looking away from him.

"No we need to get this out of the way."

"I need to stand up Richard, this is not comfortable any longer."

Richard realized that she was in pain and hurried in assisting her to get up and he got up with her, placed his hands on her shoulders, caressing her neck with his thumb "Emily, I was happy to find out we were having a girl, over the moon about it. But you seemed saddened by that fact so I didn't want to be to loud, I was sure that I conveyed my happiness in the kiss I remember giving you. But I may not have been to clear about it. I'm sorry that I disappointed you today with my reaction to Lorelai's news, it was not my intention."

"I'm sorry for overreacting, most of it are these damn hormons." a tear slipped down her cheek.

"Emily, I'm really happy that we are having a girl, very very happy." He pulled her to him and kissed her, he deepened it quickly. He ran his hands down her body, caressing her in the most tender way, Emily responded eagerly to him, until his hand found it's way up under her blouse and came into contact with her skin, she pulled back, breathing heavily.

"I….I can't do that. Here. Now!" She leaned her head against his chest.

"I didn't plan to take it this far, I just wanted to make sure that you know how I feel." He ran his hands up and down her arms.

Emily smiled up at him "I know now." She reached a hand up and cupped his cheek

"Good." He kissed the tip of her nose and looked over at the crib for a minute "This room is absolutely stunning, I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would see this room like this again. It was beautiful when we had Lorelai, but this is something else, I love what you did to it, and I am feeling very sentimental right now after seeing this crib again, what made you decide to use this again?"

"I saved it for Lorelai to use once she had children, but since we are having one ourselves I wanted to use it again, even though Lorelai's little girl will come shortly after, I think we should use it first, I bought a different one for her room." Emily informed as she ran a hand over the trim on the crib.

"I think it's perfect." He moved over behind her and wrapped his arms around her, running the tips of his fingers over her belly "Oh I almost forgot, Lorelai says her stomach itches like….what did she say…like….hell, no like crazy."

Emily turned her head and looked at him, she then kissed his cheek and moved out of his arms "Well then I better go talk to her, I need to make sure she is okay and that she understands why I acted like I did."

"She is in my study." He smiled as their eyes met.
