Chapter 24: The Silent Scorpion
It was late at night, and a young woman was walking alone. She heard strange noises as a nearby scorpion transformed into Scorpion Geronimo. The woman freaked out and tried to run, only to get a tomahawk in her back. "I'll have those blueprints for sure!," Scorpion Geronimo called out. He and his Warfare Agents started looking through Nanbara's home for the names of the colleagues he had sent the eight remaining pieces to.
However, as he got to work, he heard the laughter of Kamen Rider X as he and his team of Riders appeared outside the window. "X!," Scorpion Geronimo called out, "Just what is so funny!?" "You wasting time looking for a list of those names!," X retorted, "We already looked, you see, but Doctor Nanbara was too cautious to leave something like that lying around." "As if I'd fall for that," Scorpion Geronimo said, "You likely already have the list! I've killed many white men after their lies turned into a vengeful ogre!"
"Good thing we're Japanese then," SSS pointed out, "Honesty is a core virtue of our society." "Also, quit acting like you're the real Geronimo," Life said, "Yes, he lead Apaches against American settlers, but only ever for the sake of his people. He was only a villain within a certain context." Scorpion Geronimo howled. "Get them!" The Riders leapt away, and Scorpion Geronimo followed only to realize that they had already taken out his men stationed outside.
They Riders roared in on their Rider Machines, scattering the remaining Agents. "You can forget about those blueprints, Scorpion Geronimo!," X called out. He caught Scorpion Geronimo's tomahawk and threw it right back, barely missing him as the blade landed at the Villain Monster's feet. That was enough to make Scorpion Geronimo realize he wasn't winning that night, and he chose to retreat.
The Riders, of course, had been telling the truth about not being able to find any sort of list. Japan's population during the 1990s was well over one-hundred and twenty-five million, meaning finding just eight with no clues to go on was looking for a needle in the world's biggest haystack. Of course, the same held true for GOD, so at least it was an even game so far. But that was soon to change.
A young boy named Shoichi was preparing to go on a mountain climb in the Tanzawas. As he got out his notebook to check his schedule, his sister noticed a piece of paper fall out of it. It turned out to be one of the blueprint pieces for the RS Device. It had actually been sent to his dad, who had died in a traffic accident earlier in the week. As it turned out, his sister was one of Malty's students.
Though Malty didn't know about the blueprint, she did know about her student visiting Nanbara's grave, so Hideki and Ayato went over to see if they could get some clues. They found the student in the company of the caretaker of the cemetery. Said caretaker had overheard her talking about the blueprints, and as he watched her walk off, he allowed a giant scorpion to crawl onto his shoulder. It turned out he was a GOD agent.
The Riders tried to approach her, but she wasn't given to trust them, even when they explained that they had been entrusted to protect the blueprints by Nanbara. Ayato narrowed his eyes. "I sense there might be danger nearby. Let's get to our bikes." Hideki nodded and they hurried off, overseen by the caretaker. "So they had their eyes on the grave as well…"
He quickly went to the girl's house, intent on getting the blueprints from her. It seemed he knew her father, Doctor Yazawa, the closest of Nanbara's eight colleagues. He revealed his true form as Scorpion Geronimo. "Where is your piece of the blueprints?" Warfare Agents held her down as he held up a scorpion. "Talk if you value your life! That piece of paper has nothing to do with you!" "But mankind does!," she retorted, "Nanbara entrusted that paper to us for everyone's sake!"
That's when X knocked the scorpion off of her using his Ridol Stick. He and SSS leapt into the room. "Our buddies mentioned you might be following Yazawa's daughter!," X said, "So we kept an eye on her!" The Warfare Agents battled the two Riders as Scorpion Geronimo tried to escape with the girl, only to get confront by Angel and Life. Scorpion Geronimo pointed his tomahawk at the girl. "Surrender the blueprint you have if you want this girl to live!" "Thousand Eyes!"
The Villain Monster found himself shot in the back by Kamen Rider Eyez, causing him to let go of the girl. Eyez then started attacking Scorpion Geronimo with his Eye-Beam. After smacking him around for a bit, he joined the other Riders at the top of the nearby waterfall, along with the girl. "The second piece of the blueprints will belong to the Kamen Riders!," X declared, "Make sure King Dark knows this!" They ran off. "We'll see about that!," Scorpion Geronimo called out.
"Looks like it was a good idea to watch the doctor's grave," Tobei noted. "Speaking of which," Hideki said, "What happened with Rie?" "She was adopted by Malty and Motoyasu," Tobei explained. "I heard that!," Yui said from behind the counter, "That means I get to be a sweet and fun-loving auntie! Oh, I'll get her so many presents for holidays!" "I'm just glad that Malty told us one of her students was visiting the grave," Yuzuru said.
The girl nodded. "Thank you. I think I can trust you all now. Actually, my father, Doctor Yazawa, died in a car accident recently. But my little brother Shoichi found the letter from Nanbara. He has the blueprint with him." "So where is he?," Yurippe asked. "He went hiking in the Tanzawas just-" Yuzuru sushed her before tossing a heavy saucer right at a scorpion on the ceiling. Yui then came over and stomped it, revealing it to be an electric listening device. "You guys better head for the Tanzawas. I think Scorpion Geronimo just heard everything."
The Riders raced for the mountains, activating their devices as they did. "Henshin!" "Set Up!" they transformed into Kamen Riders X, Angel, Life, SSS, and Eyez. Meanwhile Shoichi and his friends were taking a break during their hike. One of the boys saw smoke in the distance and pointed it out, and the sound of war drums could suddenly be heard. "Those look like Native American smoke signals," the adult in the group realized.
Scorpio Geronimo appeared with a group of Warfare Agents dressed as Native Americans. "Which of you is Shoichi Yazawa!?," Scorpion Geronimo demanded. One of the Agents readied a bow and arrow set to fire. He hit the teacher in the arm, and Shoichi stepped forward. "I'm Shoichi Yazawa! What do you want with me!?" "I want the blueprints you have!," Scorpion Geronimo said, "Don't try hiding them! I heard from your sister Keiko that you have them!"
The Agents fired a volley. Just as Shoichi was about to hand the blueprints over, the Kamen Riders suddenly appeared. "Hold it right there, Scorpion Geronimo!," X called out. He and the others leapt in front of the group. "Fire at will!," Scorpion Geronimo called out. X caught the first arrow fired and threw it back, striking the shooter in a vital area. "The rest of you will cease firing or you'll all get the same!," X warned.
Scorpion Geronimo growled and made to attack as the teacher got his students to safety. Battlefront forces moved in to help escort the students, dealing with the incoming Warfare Agents. However, one boy Sawai split off, thinking he would die if he stuck around with Shoichi. His teacher found him, but so did Scorpion Geronimo. Using them as hostages, he called out the Riders. "I've got the kid and his teacher! Give me the two blueprint pieces you have, or they both die! You have to count of five!"
Shoichi handed X the blueprint. "Alright Scorpion Geronimo! Release Sawai and the teacher first!" "Very well," Scorpion Geronimo said, bringing the two hostages down. Once they were back in the shack, Scorpion Geronimo took the blueprint piece. "Now for yours!" He started to attack, but was quickly repelled. "Sorry, didn't carry it with us!," Eyez pointed out. "The you'll have to get it," Scorpion Geronimo said, "After all, you're completely surrounded!"
SSS chuckled. "This isn't Custer's Last Stand. Our firearms are far more powerful than repeater rifles. Open fire!" Scorpion Geronimo ducked as his Warfare Agents were taken out. "Here's a little tidbit," X said, "Spouting justice doesn't make someone weak! Not when they can fight to prove their justice! Ridol Stick!" He and the other Riders started going to town taking out the few Warfare Agents still standing. "This is why you're not like the real Geronimo!," Angle called out, "He never would have pulled such a dirty trick!"
"And now we'll take great pleasure in retrieving that blueprint piece!," Eyez said, smacking Scorpion Geronimo with his Eye-Beam. "Over my dead body!," Scorpion Geronimo called out. He got slashed by Angel's Hand Sonic. "Actually, we were planning that from the start!" "Ridol Rope!" X grabbed Scorpion Geronimo's tomahawk. The Villain Monster tried throwing it, only to have it be swung right back at him. SSS then flew in with a flying side kick. "SSS Kick!"
Scorpion Geronimo was sent flying before exploding. However, a beetle flew away from the remains with the blueprint in hand. 'This piece is mine now, Kamen Rider!,' called out Beetle Lupin using the beetle's communicator. The fourth member of King Dark's army took the piece inside King Dark's lair. "Well done, Beetle Lupin," King Dark said, "Now go for the third piece." Beetle Lupin nodded. "It won't be long before we have all of them." Now both sides had one piece each, but still no clues as to where the other seven were.
To be continued…
You didn't think it'd be that easy, did you? We gotta have conflict in this chase, or it would get boring. But we'll see if the Riders can make up for losing the second piece before long. Read and review.
