Chapter 10 B: Running interference...

Emma had been seated around the table with her father for what had seemed like hours. In truth it had only been about an hour. The fact that her mother had cooked breakfast, made Neal a plate and allowed him to eat in his bedroom so they could get privacy , and also cleaned the kitchen afterwards had made this whole talk seem a lot longer than it was. Emma still had alot of questions and who, what, why's but so far her father had not only given her his horrible back story with his father and brother, but also the story of her great grandfathers lineage.

He had also explained to her how she had changed and even though she had no recollection of it at all he told her that was normal until she could control her wolf and accept it. Emma didn't even know how that would be possible if everytime she changed she wouldn't remember it. David could only tell her that memories came with acceptance.

The blonde wasn't in the mood for her father to become Yoda on her all of a sudden and she rolled her eyes as she asked her next question. "So how can Mayor Mills help me?" This time it was her mother who turned from washing the last dish to answer her question. "Well I was hoping she would help us create a spell that could cover your scent because for now we need to keep your change and any other powers you might develop under wraps. Your scent will alert the pack of a newcomer and that could be dangerous for you Em."

The young teen wanted to ask why but she knew her father wasn't all the way ready to tell her everything so for now she would take what she could get and just nodded her head in acceptance. "Well if you say I changed at school who is going to help you clean that up?" David smirked and chimed in "Oh I know some strong and stealthy dwarves that owe me a favor or two. Plus we have a few weeks before all the kids come back from winter break so hopefully we can get everything situated by then."

"So uhhh uncle James lives in New Hampshire...how will we get there?" Emma asked tapping her fingers on the old brownish wood of the dinner table. "Well hopefully Reginas mother can help us with that too but you go get ready for the day kiddo we will have plenty to discuss on our drive over to the Mills mansion." Emma was glad for the out as she got up from the table and headed upstairs to get appropriately dressed for whatever events were to come next.

Mary Margaret and David were already waiting for their daughter as she headed down the stairs fully dressed and ready for the day. Emma had decided to keep it simple with a pair of ripped jeans, white tee shirt, an unzipped red jacket, and a pair of red vans. Her mother looked all dainty and sweet in her white mid thigh length dress, with her hot pink shall wrapped around her shoulders, and matching hot pink shoes and accessories.

David was wearing a pair of blue jeans with his dark brown boots and an old washed brown tee with letters barely visible. David had already taken Neal to play with April at August's house earlier that morning. The family exited the house and all gathered in David's old pick up and headed toward 101 Mifflin street. The truck came to a sputtering stop as they parked on the curb in front of the mansion. "Ok please exit the vehicle" David said in his best mimic of a flight attendant voice and Emma rolled her eyes at her fathers cheesy joke.

They all got out and slowly dragged their feet up the manor steps uncertain if they should have just showed up or called the Mayor in advance. Suddenly the door was being swung open moments before Mary Margaret even had a chance to knock on the exquisite white painted wooden door. Her husband stood behind her a little surprised but prepared to speak to the woman of the house.

As he looked down a little gauging where her eyes might be from her height he was even more surprised to find that it wasn't Mayor Mills at all, but the youngest of all the Mill's who had thrown open the door. Regina quickly pushed passed the two adults and gently charged Emma in a tight and fearless hug. "Oh Emma I'm so glad you're ok! I was so worried." The brunette all but yelled as she threw her arms around the taller girls neck and shoulders holding her tightly.

It took Emma a few moments to respond and reciprocate the hug. Regina had never really been one to lose her composure or show too much affection. If Emma could guess it was because Regina thought it improper to just wear her emotions on her sleeve but this day she hugged the blonde as if no one else in the world mattered. For those few moments Emma just relished in her sweet vanilla and spice scent.

She took in everything about the girl how her heart seemed to quicken and slow down all at once the moment she reached Emma's arms, how her breath hitched when Emma had tucked her face into her neck and sniffed her a little as she held her, how her hands seemed to lock in to one another around her neck.

The two stood like that for they didn't know how long until Mary Margaret brought them from their reverie with a cough and a question. *cough cough* "Uh Regina is your mother home?" At that moment Reginas body went rigid and she all but leapt back from the blonde blushing profusely as she answered the older woman. "Oh yes! I'm so sorry Mrs. Blanchard Uhh Mr. Nolan how rude of me to just brush by you without any introduction."

Regina proceed to tuck one leg behind the other and bow as she mentally berated herself. "Please come in." She turned and walked into her home allowing them entrance from her porch steps. As Emma walked by she snickered and leaned in with a breathy whisper "Nice curtesy Princess" Regina rolled her eyes with a witty response "Oh please I'm a queen". They both stared at each other once more before the shorter girl excused herself in search of her mother.
