New Years had been amazing, Tracie and Jerry finally got engaged. Tracie was planning her wedding for the second weekend in August. She, like Andy wanted something small and elegant with all of her closest friends and family. Things returned to a normal routine with the holidays being over. Andy was still working the street with Shaw as a partner through January but was switching to desk duty starting February 1st. She was getting bigger and bigger and could barely get her vest on anymore.
Andy had her next ultrasound appointment scheduled the first week of February. Sam took the morning off as well to go with her. They arrived and waited for them to be called.
"Mr. and Mrs. Swarek" a nurse called. Andy and Sam got up and followed the nurse in the back. They checked all Andy's vitals, her weight. She had actually lost weight even though her stomach was growing. She got in the ultrasound room and sat on the table. Dr. Moore arrived at that time.
"Alright Swarek family. Let's see how your little ones are doing" Dr. Moore said. She had Andy pull up her shirt and put on a warm liquid. Dr. Moore got the machine going and quickly found both babies. She moved the wand around a little more and there was a faint 'thump' that came through the speakers. Sam looked down and saw tears coming down Andy's face. Sam squeezed her hand.
"Everything looks perfectly healthy" Dr. Moore stated. "Now let's get the other one's heartbeat on the monitor." It took some moving around but they heard it. Sam caught himself tearing up as well. Their little ones had grown so much and were starting to look like tiny humans instead of just blobs.
"I have taken some pictures, and will get them printed off. You can pick them up at the front desk on your way out. The front desk will also schedule you another appointment in a month. At that time, we should be able to see what you are having. I am going to give you a moment. Take your time" Dr. Moore said as she exited the room.
Andy sat up on the table and pulled down her shirt. Sam was still just staring at the screen with tears in his eyes. They sat for a moment in silence.
"Sam, we need to get you back to work". Andy said.
"Okay, yea let's go" Sam responded.
They left the doctor's office with their new pictures and headed to the station. Andy went in to show Tracie. All the women were gathered around Andy in the locker room looking at the pictures. Andy was finally able to track Sam down.
"Alright, I am heading out" Andy said. "I will be back to pick you up at the end of shift. Honestly, we should probably start looking at getting a second car. I don't think this will work once the babies get here having to bring you to work or you leaving me with no ride at home".
"Alright, Andy" Sam said. He had already had some plans for this.
Andy had made the switch to desk duty and hated it. Sam pulled her as often as he could to help the detectives with cases. She enjoyed it very much when she was able to work with Sam. Frank had allowed her to switch to just wearing the PD t-shirts since she could no longer fit in her button up shirts. She was running out of room in her pants very quickly. She had to adjust them to sit below her belly because it wouldn't work any other way. She was already starting to feel fat and wasn't but three and a half months pregnant.
Valentine's Day was this week. Sam and Andy had agreed that they would just have a nice dinner after shift. Sam had a different idea. Sam had scheduled her pregnancy spa package for Valentine's Day since she had yet to use it. He had convinced Frank to let her have the whole day off and for him to have half the day. Sam had surprised her that morning with the news. She was mad that he didn't talk with him about it first. Sam went into work early but took his lunch to pick her up and bring her to the spa. He said he would be back around 5pm to pick her up. He kissed her goodbye and told her he had to get back to work to wrap up a few things. Andy had no clue that he had the rest of the day off.
Andy enjoyed every minute of her spa package. It had helped relax her and had helped with her back which had been hurting the past few days.
At 5pm Sam showed up to take her home. He could tell that she was much more relaxed that when he dropped her off. He knew that he may have to buy another package later in the pregnancy if Andy liked it. They turned down their street and parked on the side of the street was a brand-new Subaru Wagon, Burgundy with black wheels and tinted windows. It had a big red bow on the top of it.
"Somebody is having a good Valentine's Day" Andy exclaimed. "I can't complain the spa day was heavenly. Thank you for making me do that Sam."
Sam parked the truck and went around to help Andy out. Sam steered Andy toward that Subaru and hit the unlock button and handed Andy the keys.
"Go check out your new ride" Sam said.
"Don't joke like that Sam. It's not funny" Andy replied.
"I am not joking. I have been trying to finalize everything. The raise I got for becoming a detective is going to cover the cost of the car payment. It's a used car but has been very well taken care of and has low miles. I wanted something that was safe for our babies and this seemed to be one of the number one recommendation I got." Sam said.
Without warning Andy jumped up to Sam and wrapped her arms around him, kissing him.
They took a few moments and looked at the car. The car was perfect for them. Sam and Andy walked to the door holding hands. Sam opened the door for Andy and came in behind her. No lights were on in the house except for candles that were lit on the entryway table. Andy turned the corner and the dining room table was set up with a candlelight dinner and a flower arrangement in the center. Sam had gotten all of her favorite foods.
"I know its not a fancy dinner but I figured you would rather have this than anything else." Sam said.
"You are so right" Andy replied "Let me at least change first. You look nice and I am in my yoga pants and tank top."
"You look perfect to me" Sam stated "plus we don't want the food to get cold".
Andy and Sam enjoyed their dinner, talking about work and cases so she would be caught up for work tomorrow.
"Sam, I know the doctor said that next month we can find out genders of our babies. Do you want to find out or do you want it so be a surprise?" Andy asked.
"It doesn't matter to me either way. I would like the surprise but I know you are not keen on surprises" Sam replied.
"You are right on that" Andy said "I think I want to know so we can pick names and prepare the nursery".
"Okay, then we will find out." Sam said.
"I do not want to do one of those Gender Reveal parties. It's so weird to me. I think having a baby shower is even too much. I've already told Tracie that I don't want a baby shower especially at work. People shouldn't feel obligated to buy us gifts because we are having babies. It is our responsibility for that" Andy said.
Sam just nodded his head and said "okay".
They finished eating their food and Sam had Andy sit on the couch while he cleaned up the food. Andy had wanted to go into the bedroom but Sam told her to just wait. She had a surprise for him in there but needed time to arrange it. Sam finally finished up in the kitchen and came up to Andy, grabbing her hand and helping her off the couch.
"These babies are starting to make it difficult to bend certain ways. Soon you will have to help me up all the time" Andy said as she giggled. Sam had noticed that she had started to waddle a little lately and he loved it. Sam brought her to the bedroom door and opened it. Their bedroom was spotless and there were candles everywhere. She noticed that he had done all the laundry and even put it up.
"Sam, that is probably the sexiest thing ever." Andy replied as she turned around and hugged up to him. She had been so tired lately that she hadn't been doing any housework and it was starting to get embarrassing. Sam tilted her chin up and very passionately began to kiss her. Andy hurried into the closet, digging onto the back of one of the shelves. She had gotten a black maternity teddy that she had saw advertised for Valentine's Day. Tracie came walking in a few minutes later while Andy was rinsing her face with cool water and fixing her hair.
"So, I guess you've hit the heightened libido stage of pregnancy." Tracie said as she giggled "You just can't keep your hands off of him can you"
"Nope." Andy said smiling "It's the most intense thing ever"
"I Remember" Tracie said laughing as they walked back into the Detective's office.
They had their next OBGYN appointment coming up and they were going to find out the genders of their twins. Andy and Sam were so excited. "Alright Mr. and Mrs. Swarek. Would you like to know the gender of your babies?" Dr. Moore asked.

"Okay. It looks like you are having two little girls. Congratulations". Dr. Moore said.
"We are going to have two daughters" Andy said as she started to cry. Sam put his arm around her and just squeezed.
"I am going to step out and give you a moment. New pictures will be at the front desk along with scheduling the next appointment" Dr. Moore responded.
Andy and Sam were ecstatic. They now knew what nursery set up and colors that they wanted. Now it was time to pick out the names and tell their friends that they were having little girls.
